Here's my question: What is the elvish word for hobbit? The reason I ask a hobbit question is because I am one; therefore I cannot help it. No Books for help, now!

Re: An elvish-hobbitish question:

That would also be English. I am looking for the Westron word. Like the example holbytla which JRRT described as an English approximation for the Westron Kud-dukan. So what is Westron for Dwarrowdelf?

Re: An elvish-hobbitish question:

&quot; The night is passing!&quot; was the cry of all who heard the voice of Fingon who had himself cried out at the sound of Turgon's trumpet. I can't pretend to have remembered this. It's just that I was trying to clean up some of the older threads and tripped over the answer there. Not that I won't take the credit...<img src=smile.gif ALT=":)">

Re: An elvish-hobbitish question:

His hobbitish name was Kalimac, which really had no direct translation. But the hobbitish Kali meant happy, cheerful....so JRRT came up with Merry, short for Meriadoc. What a clever Professor.

I'm pretty sure I go this one right.

There are too many open quiz threads.
