Actually, the King of Gondolin doubted Tuor. This was because the message which he bore (mentally) was from Ulmo, and when he spoke it to Turgon the elven-king, the Lord of Waters gave him a voice which made him sound too noble and fair to be simply a mortal Man.

The Easterlings entered Beleriand during the time of Dagor Bragollach -- incidently from the East. Morgoth gave them the land of Hithlim as a dwelling place, where they oppressed the remnants of the People of Hador.

Hmmm.... Perhaps if I had thought of taking a glance at Silma rather than making a blind guess. Looking it up... Ah-ha. During the Long Peace, the forces of Morgoth were restrained, and all of Beleriand prospered and grew rich. In many parts of the land, the Sindar and the Noldor became welded into one people, but this occured soonest in Nevrast, the region west of Dor-lomin, beyond Ered Lomin. Turgon was their lord.

Oedipus killed his father Laius and then (unknowingly) married his mother Jocasta (or Iocaste if you prefer). When he found out the horrible truth, he blinded himself and Jocasta committed suicide by hanging herself. I don`t see any parallel with a Vala though.

If this is the answer to your question, Galpsi, then I have to admit it is one of the best here ever:
Oedipus means "swollen foot", because he was stabbed in his feet as a newborn child, and later again. The Vala who got stabbed in his foot was Melkor, rather Morgoth, in the fight against Fingolfin.

Actual: Tar-Atanamir's manipulation upon Tar-Ciryatan to surrender the sceptre before his time.

Probable: Conditions of Aldarion's rule signify many shadows falling upon Numenor, Ancalime's enjoyment of her parents animosity towards each other and other malicious objectives could show the first shadow descending.

It's also used as a symbol for Luthien (why this is I have no idea, as her flower was Nipheredil!).

So the question is asked again:

What is the name of Elanor's daughter?

A mathom is an item hobbits don't want to throw away but don't neccesarily want to keep so they pass it on to the next hobbit when they celebrate their birthday.

It's kind of a pass-around nick-knack.

Elanor Gardner-Fairbairn moved to Undertowers. However this is not an official Gamgee, especially since she was wedded to Fastred, and Sam had already altered the sur-name to Gardner.

Prior to this the next possibility is Marigold Gamgee who married Tom Cotton and moved to Bywater, but again the marriage seems to discount this as she would be Marigold Cotton.

Halfred is the most logical choice (who moved to the Northfarthing).

Assuming the War of Wrath was won by the Eldar (and not just by the Valar), I would make it 66.7%. That said, I'm still not decided as to whether the first battle was a victory or not.

As the armies of Morgoth were totally aniahlated in the first Battle, I'd count it as a victory. 66.7% is fair enough; although the actual answer is something like 66.6 recurring. Ask us!

I'd never want to see Lost Tales dismissed as unimportant. True, it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it formed the basis for much of Tolkien's later Middle Earth writings.

As I'm in the mood, I think I'll ask another Lost Tales question.

In the Fall of Gondolin, what were the words that Tuor shouted from the top of the Tower of Turgon?

I can remember only one person 'shouting' from the top of the above named Tower  , and that was Turgon himself shouting something like Great is the fall of Gondolin first and than Great is the victory of the Noldoli!. But I can't remember Tuor shouting anything :(

Tuor bore the shield, hauberk, sword, and helm left by Turgon at the instruction of Ulmo.
He also had a great cloak, from Ulmo himself, that mantled him in shadow from the eyes of his enemies.
And a sharp, pointy stick. poke-poke.

Back to Tuor. There is a statement that Tuor loved the swans. immediatly afterwords there are given at least two reasons for this love (not counting the probability that besides those two reasons swans are beautiful birds and maybe loved even for their own sake, without other reasons :) I'm after reasons
