This is a continuation thread. It is Odysseus's turn! <img src=smile.gif ALT=":)">

<font size="-2">'They have come!' he said. 'Take courage and look! There are fell things below.'</p>

Telchar

Ody???

Turambar
10-16-2001, 10:54 AM
This is the ghost of Odysseus.

Try this:

Maeglin is to Idril and WHO is to Niniel?

Elrian
10-16-2001, 07:02 PM
Maeglin is a cousin to Idril as Tour is a cousin to Niniel? smilies/smile.gif

Turambar
10-16-2001, 08:24 PM
No, not Tuor.

Telchar
10-17-2001, 01:20 AM
New line of thinking: Brandir - he loved Niniel and couldn't have her like Maeglin loved Idril and couldn't have her ??? smilies/cool.gif

Turambar
10-17-2001, 08:29 AM
Correct, Telchar -- unrequited love was the theme.

Elrian
10-17-2001, 07:22 PM
Oops, yeah I guess I did forget the Theme part. smilies/eek.gif

Bingo is to Frodo as Bladorion is to________???

Turambar
10-18-2001, 06:01 AM
Ard Galen ! (Bingo and Bladorion were the original names of Ard galen and Frodo)

Telchar
10-19-2001, 07:50 AM
Very good Turambar - proceed smilies/smile.gif

Turambar

Dior is to Celegorm as ________________ is to Fingon?

Telchar
10-24-2001, 06:42 AM
Gothmog

Turambar
10-24-2001, 07:47 AM
Yep, the Danish Dwarf gets it.

Telchar
10-30-2001, 02:56 AM
Easy one ...

Hurin is to Turgon as _______ is to Felagund

Turambar
10-30-2001, 11:47 AM
Barahir -- his rescuer from among Men.

Telchar
10-31-2001, 02:24 AM
Yes Go on Turambar smilies/smile.gif

Telchar
11-26-2001, 02:51 AM
Turambar?????

Turambar
11-26-2001, 07:39 AM
Sorry I lost the thread and I have trouble with these analogy questions. try this:

Luthien is to Beren as _____________ is to Maedhros.

Elenhin
11-27-2001, 01:31 PM
Fingon - he rescued Maedhros from Morgoth, like Luthien rescued Beren from Sauron.

Turambar
11-27-2001, 01:39 PM
Exactly.

Elenhin
11-28-2001, 01:01 PM
Fingolfin is to Finwe as ________ is to Thingol.

Turambar
11-28-2001, 04:12 PM
Dior ?

Telchar
11-29-2001, 04:07 AM
Luthien

Elenhin
11-29-2001, 12:39 PM
Turambar got it - Dior was Thingol's heir to throne.

Telchar
11-30-2001, 04:33 AM
Fingolfin was not the Heir of Finwe! Fëanor was! Fingolfin was named HighKing of the Noldor after Fëanors death.
So the question should be Fingolfin is to Feanor as _______ is to Thingol - and if that had been the case I would have said Olve - and been wrong anyhow smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

I think we need Tar Elenion and/or Michael Martinez to smack down the dwarf at this point. smilies/evil.gif

Turambar
11-30-2001, 12:00 PM
Gil-galad is to spear as Tuor is to ________?

Elenhin
11-30-2001, 02:21 PM
Telchar: You're right in that... I chose my words poorly. I actually meant that Fingolfin was the next High King after Finwe - even though Feanor led the Noldor in the rebelllion, he was never called the High King.

If I recall correctly Gil-galad used Aeglos, a spear, and Tuor used Dramborleg, an axe.

Turambar
11-30-2001, 02:41 PM
THAT IS OF COURSE RIGHT, ELENHIN.

Elenhin
12-01-2001, 10:22 AM
Ok - I'll try to express myself clearer this time.

Ilmare is to Varda as ______ is to Manwe.

Telchar
12-03-2001, 02:40 AM
Eönwë, the Herald of Manwe .... In earlier myth both he and Ilmarë was considered the son and daughter of Varda and Manwë

Elenhin
12-03-2001, 09:55 AM
Yep - Ilmare was the greatest of Varda's Maiar and Eonwe was the greatest of Manwe's Maiar.

Telchar
04-14-2002, 05:18 AM
Voronwe was to Tuor what _______ was to Frodo?

twinkle
04-14-2002, 06:02 AM
Voronwe met with Tuor at Vinyamar and guided him to Gondolin....perhaps Strider is the one you are looking for then?
He met Frodo at The Prancing Pony and guided him at least to Amon Sul....
however, this may not be the idea you were after smilies/wink.gif in which case, i'll keep digging smilies/smile.gif

twinkle

Telchar
04-14-2002, 06:30 AM
Well there can be several answers - I was actually thinking of Smeagol as a guide - but Strider fits just as well smilies/smile.gif so please continue smilies/smile.gif

thx telch smilies/wink.gif

here goes a question courtesy of Art_R....
i couldn't come up with an analogy fast enough and seeing as i'm already receiving hatemail to continue smilies/wink.gif thx Art_R for your magnanimous help smilies/smile.gif

Gwaihir is to Gandalf what ____ is to Frodo

twinkle

Bruce MacCulloch
04-16-2002, 04:31 PM
Either Landroval or Menelvor. The book isn't very clear as to which of them carried Frodo and which carried Sam.

Telchar
04-16-2002, 04:55 PM
Sam!

I - lol - have to add a lil something to that answer, so here goes: Gwaihir carried Gandalf! Either one of the beforenamed three eagles carried Frodo. But also Sam carried Frodo on mount Doom, Asfaloth to the Ford, Bill The Pony (some where I think) and Aragorn In Moria + The snow.
Gwaihir Rescues Gandalf from Orthanc! Sam rescues Frodo from The Tower of Cirith Ungol, Tom Bombadil from The Barrow!

Sam fits both, so thats my answer - good ol' Sam!!!

easy one:

Asfaloth is to Golrfindel, as ___________ is to Aragorn

Birdland
04-20-2002, 12:07 PM
Asfaloth is to Glorfindel, as Roheryn is to Aragorn.

I could have said "Hasufel", but he was just a loaner. smilies/biggrin.gif

Telchar
04-20-2002, 02:11 PM
That is correct Birdland smilies/smile.gif

Birdland

Hither Shores is to _____________ as Further Shores is to the Undying Lands.

Birdland
04-22-2002, 05:53 PM
C'mon guys! This is a question from Bird "I'll-read-the-Silm-when-H***-freezes-over" Land. It can't be that hard!

Joy
11-28-2002, 11:35 PM
Birdie, if I'd have known that this thread had died, I would have got to it sooner.

Hither Shores is to _____________ as Further Shores is to the Undying Lands.

Middle Earth, but more specificaly Nevrast.

Birdland
11-29-2002, 09:56 AM
That's right, Joy. Carry on!

Galadriel is to Arwen as Ruby Bolger is to _____ _______.

Joy
11-29-2002, 12:45 PM
Estella Bolger??

Lindolirian
11-29-2002, 12:48 PM
No, I don't think so. If it helps, the Ruby Bolger I'm thinking of (if there is another) is married to Fosco Baggins, I believe.

Joy
11-29-2002, 12:59 PM
Oh okay - she was Frodo' grandmother.

Lindolirian

Some time? Almost two years! :D Actually, this game seems to be the same as Verbal Reasoning.

Uhm, is your answer Ancalagon?

Joy
09-01-2004, 05:39 PM
You're right.

If it is similar, then we'll end it. I lost this thread when I left a while back and looked for it once - couldn't find it. Then last night I got desparate. I am running this game on another board and I was too tired to come up with a question, so I started digging again.

Where is thread 1 now?? Sometimes I really need help in creating these. People on the board like to answer them, but no one will create their own.

NightKnight
09-02-2004, 12:51 AM
Yeah, answering is a lot more fun. :D

Sauron is to Beren as Thingol is to ________

The Saucepan Man
09-03-2004, 11:15 AM
Actually, this game seems to be the same as Verbal Reasoning.Indeed it is. Please continue there. I'm closing this one as it had, until very recently, been dormant for some time. Here's the link to the Verbal Reasoning game (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?p=348408#post348408).

PS Sorry Nightknight, but you were the one who pointed out the similarity! :p ;)
