Gandalf is to Volúspa (Song of the Sybill) as Guthlàf is to _______________ ???

Sharkû

Hehe, been a while since I visited the Quiz Room, but I couldn't resist such a summon.

I have to admit the name only rang a bell in regard to the song of the Mounds of Mundburg. But since it is Anglo-Saxon or Old English in origin, I figured it might be in Beowulf, so I searched my -- to my own shame, yet unread -- version of it and found it there. smilies/smile.gif

Yep, I thought that was interesting, JRRT "borrowing" from Beowulf.

UNREAD ???!! You gotta read it, oh Age Impaired One. There's also an "audio book version" of the recent translation (Seamus Heaney I think the translator's name is). You can listen to Beowulf in the car !

It has been more than 7 days, so I guess I'll post one.

Aragorn

Joy
02-19-2002, 01:15 AM
Finally! Watcher in the Water has it.

Beleg first wielded the sword that Turin had reforged and wielded and also Elendil wielded Narsil that was later forged into Anduril, Aragorn's sword.

The Flame Imperishable is to life as the __________ is to Death.

Zif, is the the Gift of Iluvatar?

Is it the Void?

zifnab
06-11-2002, 09:28 PM
Not quite, Thinhyandoiel.

When a body dies the spirit/fea goes somewhere. Making the death 'complete'. Just as the Flame made it 'complete'.

Turambar

The Halls of Mandos?

zifnab

Ar-Pharazon.

Turambar
06-21-2002, 01:51 PM
I guess both are correct but it was Ar Pharazon I was thinking of - Grima and Sauron were false counselors to Theoden and Ar Pharazon. Your go, Lindolirian.

Salix has it. It Elrond.

Turin (I meant Tuor) was fostered by Annael as was Aragorn fostered by Elrond.

Therefore Annael led his small people to the caves of Androth, and there they lived a hard and wary life, until Tuor was sixteen years of age...
