When Gandalf fends off the balrog on the bridge of Khazad-Dûm, he says that he is the wielder of the Secret Flame and bearer of the fire of Anor. The tells the balrog that the Dark Fire would be of no use to him and calls him the Flame of Udûn. what exactly does he mean?

Udun is the source of the dark flame of the Balrogs, possibly Utumno, possibly the darkness of the spirit of Melkor.
Anor is the power wielded by Gandalf.

Udun was the fire that Melkor created in the belly of the earth in mockery of the Flame Imperishable of Illuvatar. The flame of Anor was fire taken from the new young sun driven by Arien who gathered it for Manwe.Whew. that was long. sorry if i bored you to death. smilies/smile.gif
