Where did the wood for Earendil's ship come from?
Scapegoat

Nimbrethil, according to Bilbo's song.
Bruce MacCulloch

Nimbrethil, according to Bilbo's song. And since Bilbo's song is the only place you will find the tale of Earendil in Fellowship of the Ring, you are most correct! smilies/biggrin.gif
Your turn, Scapegoat.
From Raefindel
How about this... Who is the father of twins?
The answer to this is Elrond - His sons are Elrohir and Elladan, their sister was Arwen

Raefindel and Joy, if you read the note at the main page for this forum, you would see Ask a trivia question about Middle-Earth. The first person to get it right continues the thread with a new question. If you have a new question, either answer someone else's or feel free to start a new thread.

Describe one occasion in FotR that Gandalf definitely did not have his staff in his hand.
Bruce MacCulloch

When he drove a firework-laden cart through Bywater and Hobbiton up to Bag End before the Party, he would have needed both hands to drive the cart. smilies/wink.gif

Sorry Bruce. My grandfather drove a horsecart, and he lost his arm in a sawmill when he was nine. Although I agree it is highly probable that Gandalf had laid aside his staff while in that situation, I'm looking for a time when it states positively that he had put it down. smilies/smile.gif
I don't know if this counts or not, but when Gandald was fighting the Balrog, it states that he smote the bridge and it cracked at the balrogs feet and the staff was broken and fell from his hand. - FotR "The Bridge of Kazad-dum"

Did gandalf not set his staff down when he meets Aragorn Legolas and Gimli on 'Fangorns Hill'?
Scapegoat

Joy is correct. It does state at the bridge his staff fell from his hand. As far as the meeting with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, that occurs in the Two Towers, not in FotR.
Your turn Joy. smilies/smile.gif
PS: there is at least one other occasion that Gandalf puts down his staff in FotR, if anyone cares to look. smilies/wink.gif

Could you tell me if it is before Rivendell or after? I would like to find both instances before I ask a question.
Just gives me more time to find one. smilies/smile.gif
