This...really doesn't make any sense. It sounds just like word association.

Ah, is it Aragorn - Ecthelion II, (During Ecthelion's rule Aragorn, disguised as Thorongil, served Gondor.)

Gandalf-Thorin Oakenshield (Gandalf accompanied Thorins company)

I agree.

It sounds just like word association.

...Or One Thing in Common (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=000239&p=)
Try it and see if that's the game you're thinking of.

well the first person who tried got it wrong and i'l ltry and explain it a little bit better

you put down any number of people/things/places in a listed form and you must put them together in a order in which they match. it doesn't have to be the same thing, it just has to be able to match

I may just be dense (I doubt it), but I still don't understand. Can you give us another example, or tell us the answer to the current problem and explain how you arrived at the answer?

Nerindel had got it right so i think he/she knows what to do

smilies/redface.gif does this help? find the matched pairs in the list and what connects them:
Example:
Frodo
Éowyn
Bilbo
Faramir

Answer
First pair: Frodo and Bilbo,
connection: both ring-bearers

Second pair: Éowyn and Faramir,
connection: they married after WR.

Try this one:
Cirdan
Thorin
Gandalf
Smaug

oh and its she Gil-galad smilies/biggrin.gif

The Saucepan Man

Gandalf and Cirdan: Both wore Narya, the Ring of Fire.

Thorin and Smaug: Both were resident in the Dwarven Halls under the Lonely Mountain (at different times, of course smilies/wink.gif ).

No problem Gil-Galad smilies/wink.gif

The Saucepan Man

OK, here's one:

Boromir
Denethor
Finarfin
Lenwe

Sophia the Thunder Mistress
04-24-2003, 11:28 PM
I've got the first connection, the second's a real stretch, but I'll take a shot at it.

Lenwe (of the Nandor) was the father of Denethor (the first lord of the Laiquendi in Ossiriand).

Boromir (of Ladros) was given his land by a Lord of the house of Finarfin (namely Finrod Felagund)

Hmm, Sophia, there's no sneaking a question past you.

A stretch it may be, but you are correct. smilies/smile.gif

Alrighty... *rubs hands together* I like this game Gil-Galad smilies/biggrin.gif

Hurin
Elendil
Oromendil
Denethor

Sophia

Gil-Galad
04-26-2003, 06:22 PM
i would say that

Hurin-Denethor- both stewards of Gondor

Elendil-Oromendil- Related?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress
04-27-2003, 12:56 AM
er... *grimacing*

Thinking of a different Hurin, and not the obvious Elendil either.

You're quite close though

Sophia

Nerindel
04-27-2003, 02:41 AM
Hurin - Denethor, they were both decieved by their enemy, Hurin by Morgoth and Denethor by Sauron?

Elendil - Oromendil, both of the faithful?/or kings of Numenor?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress
04-27-2003, 03:12 AM
Nope smilies/smile.gif keep trying...

Annunfuiniel
04-27-2003, 04:26 AM
I'll try...
Hurin of the Keys served Denethor II and
Oromendil, a Númenorean nobleman was King Tar-Elendil's cousin.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress
04-27-2003, 03:13 PM
Exactly smilies/smile.gif did you change your avatar Annun? I loved it smilies/frown.gif

Sophia

Annunfuiniel
04-27-2003, 03:40 PM
Really? I mean you liked the book? Why I like it too but I thought of trying other avatars for a change. I'll probably have different one for each day now that I found a whole bunch that I like! smilies/biggrin.gif But the book will most likely make a come-back... smilies/smile.gif

Oh, and a new question is coming up right after I have thought of one. I just had to comment upon this avatar issue... smilies/wink.gif

Annunfuiniel
04-28-2003, 04:27 AM
Ok, here we go:

Rían
Gildor
Barahir
Dior

smilies/evil.gif

The Saucepan Man
04-28-2003, 05:31 PM
The smilies/evil.gif doesn't bode well, but I'll give it a try.

Barahir - Gildor: Gildor was one of the 12 companions of Barahir in Dorthonion.

Rian - Dior: The children of both (Tuor and Elwing) sailed to Valinor.

Annunfuiniel
04-28-2003, 11:15 PM
Well, consider the first connection solved smilies/smile.gif but you need to work on the second one... smilies/tongue.gif smilies/wink.gif

Nerindel
04-29-2003, 03:29 AM
Dior - Rían, Dior's Daughter (Elwing) married Rían's grandson (Eärendil)?

Annunfuiniel
04-29-2003, 03:51 AM
Nerindel, your answer is as correct as was Saucepan's, but I'm looking for something else. You need to widen your perspective - considerably. smilies/wink.gif

Estanesse
04-29-2003, 05:51 AM
Dior was attacked and killed by the sons of Feanor
Rian Great grandmother of Elrond and Elros who were attacked and captive by the sons of Feanor

Sophia the Thunder Mistress
05-10-2003, 11:02 AM
Rian-> Dior: the only mortals whose children were immortal.

Elwing, daughter of Dior, went to Valinor with Earendil.

Tuor, son of Rian, went to Valinor with Idril.

Earendil, the only other logical candidate, was actually the son of two immortals, Idril and Tuor.

smilies/biggrin.gif still a stretch, but I like this game.

Sophia

Annunfuiniel
05-12-2003, 08:29 AM
Estanesse and Sophia: great answers and sorry I kept you waiting. But alas! No right answer yet. smilies/wink.gif

Ok, when I said you need to widen your perspective I meant you need to think of another Dior...

Edit: Sorry Estanesse...

kimli

Greetings! Kimli at your service! I thought I would give this a try.
Turgon is the great grandfather of Elros
Elrond is Aragorn's father in-law

Gil-Galad
05-23-2003, 06:33 AM
nope

Edit: just a side note, aragorn is like Elronds GRAND nephew becasue he is realted to Elros, Elronds brother

Eruanna
05-25-2003, 12:03 PM
Aragorn and Elros, distanly related, became Kings of Men.

Turgon and Elrond, both rulers of "Hidden" places and both had daughters who married mortals.

Gil-Galad
05-25-2003, 06:35 PM
you are correct with Turgon and Elrond and close enough with elros and aragorn so, good job! your up!!!

Eruanna
05-26-2003, 10:23 AM
Thank you smilies/smile.gif

Turgon
Aragorn
Dior
Thingol
Emeldir
Tuor

Sophia the Thunder Mistress
05-26-2003, 11:38 AM
Dior- Thingol, both were slain over the Silmaril.

Emeldir-Tuor, both led their people out of danger to safety

Turgon-Aragorn, I have no idea what their connection might be, but I liked the other two so I decided to post anyway smilies/wink.gif

Sophia

Eruanna
05-26-2003, 12:31 PM
Both of those are valid Sophia, but they're not what I had in mind. smilies/smile.gif

Finwe
05-26-2003, 06:25 PM
Turgon - Thingol: Both their daughters married mortal men and they were both slain in the ruin of their Kingdoms.

Tuor - Aragorn: They both married the daughters of Elf Lords/Kings and had to perform certain tasks to end up marrying those daughters.

Emeldir - Dior: They both had to lead their people to a new place to "start over again." Emeldir had to flee over the mountains. Dior had to travel to Doriath to take over the throne of his grandfather.

Eruanna
05-27-2003, 08:21 AM
They are the matching pairs I had in mind, though for slightly differing reasons:

Emeldir / Dior, for the reasons you stated and both their fathers were named Beren.

Tuor / Aragorn, both fostered by Elves and married the daughters' of Elven leaders.

Turgon / Thingol, both were slain and called "The Hidden King"

You matched the pairs and your reasons were just as good as mine....so your go. smilies/smile.gif

Folcwine
Eomer
Leod
Helm

And don't say they were all kings of Rohan/Eotheod. ;)

Arvedui III

Darn it.

Eomer and Leod: Both of them did not ride mearas into battle.
Helm and Frealaf: Were both burried in the mounds at Edoras
Folca and Folcwine: Are both related to Folcred.

NightKnight
04-20-2004, 01:28 PM
I'm gonna have to say no. How do you know Firefoot wasn't a mearas. I think he was. And all of them were buried in Edoras (except Leod), and all of them were related to Folcred. So have more specific guesses.

symestreem
04-20-2004, 06:03 PM

Folca and Leod- both were killed by an animal
