I don't think there are any other threads like this, but let me know if you find any. Here are the rules:
The person asking the question must ask a question about his/herself.
If you are asking the question, you must have posted the answer before on at least one other thread.
For example, a question that Mattius might ask would be:
On April 21, I posted a picture of myself. What did the shirt I was wearing say?
The answer would be:
BRITS DO IT BEST
Here's the first question:
What is my middle name?
Tell me if you need a hint!

Holy Cow! This seems like it could be very tough! But a very good idea, I think.
Yes, how about a clue.

Yep, you got the first name.
Here's a clue:
There is one other BDer with the same first and middle name as mine, both with different spellings.
Sophia the Thunder Mistress
04-29-2003, 12:44 PM
That's really freaky... becuase my middle name is Lynn... I'm not kidding!!!
So you're Monyca Lynne
And I'm Monica Lynn
*triumphant* it's Lynn smilies/biggrin.gif

This one may be a little harder, but here it goes:
What name did the Barrow-Downs Name Generator give me, and what does it mean?
the phantom
05-05-2003, 12:43 PM
Well, I know you said this...
At my school, we are reading The Hobbit right now. We are studying Quenya and Sindarin. Our teacher went to the Barrow-Downs to get our Elvish names!! However, I am totally opposed to the Name Generator, so this makes me mad!!! I'm trying to get it through to my teacher that the Name Generator only generates a name; she believes that it translates your name. BTW, in class, we have to call each other the names that the Name Generator gave us.
and this....
Lucky you... My friend who has the same name as me, Monica, is in 2 of my classes. On my first day of school, in 1st period, my teacher asked me if I had a nickname. At the time, I was busy writing my latest RPG post. So the first thing that came out of my mouth was 'Mae'. In another class I'm known as Luin, another RPG character of mine.
and this....
STUPID NAME GENERATOR!!!
yeah... I don't like the name generator...
Just in case there is some one here who doesn't know, the name generator doesn't translate your name into Elvish or any other language, it just generates a name, hence the name: The Name Generator.
My screen name is my first and middle name in Quenya. Eressië Ailin~ Lonely lake, more or less.
I don't think that's what you're looking for, though. I plugged in Monyca Lynne and the generator spit out Nufeniel, but I have no clue if that's what you're looking for either. Oh well.

05-05-2003, 04:57 PM
Nope, that's not what I'm looking for... Do you know how to get to the Languages Forum? If you do, or even if you don't, that's where you'll find the answer.
And Monyca Lynne would be Rynoah's name, and I'm looking for what you get if you put in my first, middle, and last name in, and my translation of it.

What did I say the most "naughty" of Mr Clause's evil works was?
Sophia the Thunder Mistress
05-05-2003, 11:18 PM
quote from The Silmarilion
"But it is held true by the elves that Santa, who is named Nick, the great enemy of the world, took the Noldor that he had captured and through slow arts of torture, turned them into short, twisted creatures, living only to manufacture and produce toys. And this was deemed the most naughty act of all Santa's evil works."
Sounds more like the Silly-marillion to me smilies/wink.gif

Very off topic, but Saucepan- King Friday...? King Friday was the puppet King on a kids TV show (Mr Rogers' Neighborhood) when I was little. The people on the show always said "Correct as usual King Friday!" smilies/wink.gif The queen was Queen Sara Saturday and I always liked it cause my real first name is Sara.

Who introduced me to Tolkien?

Ok, question about me... What is the Sindarin translation of my real name?

vanwalossien
06-12-2003, 02:21 PM

Well I don't know your real name nor am I anything remotely resembling anyone remotely knowledgeable about Sindarin.
But judging from Beren's Quenyan guess, does the Sindarin version go along the lines of Eriahithlain? At least, those are two roots that I put together. It does have a nice ring to it...
vanwalossien

Was it maikafanawen? This was one of her old sigs:
"We never said, our love was evergreen, or as unchanging as the sea -- but please promise me that sometimes, you will think ... of ... me!!"
"Anywhere you go let me go too ... Love me -- that's all I ask of you ...": Christine Daae, The Phantom of the Opera

I'm always at a loss when it comes to thinking up a good question, so here goes nothing.
What was the topic of my very first thread?
It is something very near and dear to me. Hence it moved me to actually begin a thread. lol, I don't have many, so it shouldn't bee too difficult a question.

What is the weird story of how I came up with the name Elennar?
Amanaduial the archer
08-12-2003, 08:19 AM
Here you go, a direct quote of said story:
Before I learned any elvish I was thinking about how elvish names mean something (Legolas=greenleaf, for example) and I decided I wanted my name to mean starfire. I write fantasy sometimes and have trouble coming up with names for my characters, so whwnever I come up with a good name I write it down so I don't forget. one of the names I had come up with (and my favorite at the time) was Elinar. Then I found out that elen means star and nar means fire, so I put them together to get Elennar=starfire.
And, by the way, its a lovely name- very like an RPG character in one of the games I played in - Elenna Starfire. At first, I thought you were that person, but incognito or something!
Am I right?

Your answer to my question is correct, but I have never been in a RPG.
Amanaduial the archer

I know, when I said Am I right, I meant, is my answer right. I know you aren't Elenna, don't worry.
Now, a question....*rubs hands together*
In my very first RPG, what were the colours of my two characters' hair?
smilies/evil.gif
aragornreborn
08-13-2003, 02:00 PM
OK, well, I found three characters of yours. I think anyway. I know nothing of RPGs so I could be quite confused. But here goes nothing.
You had an elf with golden hair who wanted it cut.
And you had (I think) another elf with ash-blonde hair.
Or you could be meaning Aman (I suppose that would be yourself, perhaps), I don't know. If you are, I couldn't find a hair color, but if your character's birthplace and your avatar are to be any clues, I'd guess brown.
Anyway, I'm not entirely sure if that's what you meant or if I even got the characters right. I am far from the RPGer you appear to be.
Amanaduial the archer
08-13-2003, 02:47 PM
Nope.
You flatter me, aragorn. smilies/smile.gif
The elf with ash-blonde hair was in Roll Out The Barrels, and the character was Aenara Oakhelm. That was my...sixth or seventh game, I think. Not all of the games I was in were finished.
A blonde elf who wanted to cut her hair? Uh...oh, shame on you, Aman, shame on you. Possibly that's Nuhrive Fleetheart, from Kidnapped!. That was my eightth. Ish.
Remember, you are looking for two characters I played in one RPG.
Would you like a clue?

You can have a clue anyway, but not what the RPG is - it is in the Elvenhome (surprise, surprise!), and the two characters are male and female- the second character doesn't come in until the last few pages.
There.

I didn't delete my post, it may have been lost when Estelyn cleaned out old threads in preparation for TTT. My hint meant that I referred to that old post in a semi-recent post. In the Barrow Downs forum. And that's all the hints I'm going to give. smilies/tongue.gif
