Let's start with an easy one.

Quote
___________________________________________
Moria, Moria, Wonder of the Northern world!
Too deep we dwelzed there and woke the nameless fear.
___________________________________________

Who said this while reporting the problems of his race?

Arwen Melian
11-26-2002, 07:20 PM
Gimli?

-Imrahil-
11-26-2002, 07:29 PM
Got to be Gimli with that "we" there.

Agree Arwen smilies/biggrin.gif

Lindolirian
11-26-2002, 08:14 PM
Nope.... Gloin his father. I don't think Gimli had much to say at the Council.

RiderOfRohan
11-27-2002, 03:34 PM
Gloin is right. Take it away Lindolirian.

Lindolirian
11-27-2002, 03:38 PM
"But what then would happen, if the Ruling Ring were destroyed, as you counsel?"

Lostgaeriel
11-27-2002, 05:47 PM
Tricky...but it's Glóin again.

Lindolirian
11-27-2002, 08:59 PM
Yup, Gloin rules... y'know this is kinda an easy thread cause its all from one chapter...

-Imrahil-
11-27-2002, 10:55 PM
Yep. Will be hard to keeping coming up with quotes smilies/biggrin.gif

Guys want to include whole FotR too?

Lostgaeriel
11-27-2002, 11:45 PM
It is a rather limiting topic for quotes, but if you expand it beyond The Council of Elrond, the topic heading will make no sense. Besides there are already many general LOTR, FOTR, TT, ROTK quotes threads going.

Perhaps when we've exhausted this chapter, we can tackle another. It's a great way to get to know the book well.

I was sent to bear tidings, not burdens.

Beruthiel
11-28-2002, 12:13 AM
Was it Boromir?

Lostgaeriel
11-28-2002, 01:17 AM
No, it was not Boromir. smilies/biggrin.gif

LePetitChoux
11-28-2002, 03:13 PM
Legolas? smilies/confused.gif

Lostgaeriel

Nor Legolas. smilies/evil.gif

Gwahir when Gandalf asked for a ride of off Orthanc.

-Imrahil-
11-29-2002, 10:38 AM
Hbbit got it. Darn, knew that one smilies/biggrin.gif

Lostgaeriel
11-29-2002, 01:40 PM
No, hobbitlass doesn't have it quite right. Gwaihir didn't say that in the chapter The Council of Elrond. There's a reason I didn't include the quotation marks. smilies/biggrin.gif

It's a technicality, I know, but that's why I chose this quote. Now you all know who actually said it, but the next turn goes to the first person to actually POST the answer! READY, SET, GO!

Ooooh, evil one! smilies/wink.gif
It's Gandalf saying to the council what Gwahir said to him. Is that what you are looking for?

Lostgaeriel
11-29-2002, 05:56 PM
Yess! Wicked! Tricksy! But not false.

Your turn. smilies/smile.gif

hobbitlass
11-30-2002, 03:32 PM
I am going for a difficult one...
"...and yet we come no nearer."

hobbitlass
12-07-2002, 08:16 AM
It has been a week, time for the rest of the quote.

'Thus we return once more to the destroying of the Ring,' said_______,'and yet we come no nearer.'

Legolas
12-07-2002, 11:44 AM
'Thus we return once more to the destroying of the Ring,' said Erestor, `and yet we come no nearer. What strength have we for the finding of the Fire in which it was made? That is the path of despair. Of folly I would say, if the long wisdom of Elrond did not forbid me.'

Erestor!

hobbitlass
12-09-2002, 07:23 AM
Yes, you got it, your turn.

Legolas
12-10-2002, 11:33 PM
Less thanks have we than you.

Lostgaeriel
12-12-2002, 12:07 PM
That's Aragorn to Boromir.

And yet less thanks have we than you. Travellers scowl at us, and countrymen give us scornful names.

It's that old 'You think you have it tough? When I went to school, I had to walk ten miles with no shoes in a blizzard up hill - both ways!' Naw, these two guys aren't at all competitive.

Legolas
12-13-2002, 10:28 AM
Yup. Go on.

Lostgaeriel
12-15-2002, 01:06 AM
‘I do not understand all this.’

LePetitChoux
12-15-2002, 07:27 AM
Frodo? It really sounds like something he'd say. smilies/smile.gif

Lostgaeriel
12-16-2002, 06:08 PM
Well, it might sound like something Frodo would say in The Shadow of the Past but not during The Council of Elrond. I think by the time of the Council, Frodo understood what had to be done and why. (By the way that's a bit of a hint.)

Try again.

hobbitlass
12-16-2002, 09:54 PM
'I do not understand all this, he (Boromir) said. 'Saruman is traitor, but did he not have a glimpse of wisdom?'

Lostgaeriel
12-18-2002, 02:35 PM
Yes, hobbitlass, you got it. Poor Boromir just didn't 'get' it at the Council.

Your turn.

'And yet its vigilance can no longer keep back the Nine,'

smile
12-19-2002, 07:38 PM
mind if I jump in...it was Galdor
""Gondor wanes your say. but gondor stands, and even the end of its strenght is still very stong"
"And yet its vigilance can no longer keep back the Nine," said Galdor."And other roads...

hobbitlass

Garen LiLorian

That is the doom that we must deem.

Galdor of the Havens to Elrond.

Aratlithiel

Elrond to the company:
Here, my friends, is the hobbit, Frodo son of Drogo

Beren87
01-17-2003, 02:56 PM
Correct alaklondewen!

My this topic is easy when coming from only one chapter.

alaklondewen
01-17-2003, 03:31 PM
I think it is a great way to get to know a chapter with a little more depth.

Yes, I have come,

Beren87
01-17-2003, 03:39 PM
True, from a learning standpoint (which is in my opinion the main point of these games, for I have learned countless amounts of information participating). But from a game point of view, it makes it very easy.

Gandalf recounting his "episode" with Saruman, where he was speaking to him.

For the folk of Arnor

Russandol
01-20-2003, 10:14 AM
Elrond, as part of the history lecture to the rest of the council.

For the folk of Arnor dwindled, and their foes devoured them, and their lordship passed, leaving only green mounds in the grassy hills.

alaklondewen

Beren? I thought you may have forgotten this thread, and I'm only reminding you because I know you are logged on a lot.

Beren87

Beren87
01-22-2003, 11:37 PM
Lovely!

my quest was ended

Lostgaeriel
01-23-2003, 12:22 AM
That is Gandalf speaking after he has recounted the contents of Isildur's scroll. Gandalf had found the method of testing if Frodo's ring was the One Ring - the quest he had set out upon.

'When I read these words, my quest was ended. For the traced writing was indeed as Isildur guessed, in the tongue of Mordor and the servants of the Tower. And what was said therein was already known.

Beren87
01-23-2003, 12:26 AM
Good Job Lostgaeriel! And a cookie for all the extra information! *hands her a cookie*

Lostgaeriel
01-30-2003, 01:07 PM
Mmmm. *chomps away in a very un-elf-like way* Thanks for the cookie. Could use some milk or miruvor to wash it down, though!

I will do that

alaklondewen
01-31-2003, 10:07 AM
It is Gandalf quoting Radagast. Gandalf asked him to send out messages to all beasts and birds that were his friends to bring news to Isengard.

Lostgaeriel
01-31-2003, 10:13 PM
Yes. There's no fooling you, alaklondewen. Would you like a wafer of lembas? Or an apple? *wheeling snack cart thru the Council*

Beren87

Not it, but you're getting closer. It was said to Gandalf.

Orofaniel
07-05-2003, 09:52 AM

Nope, neither.

Orofaniel
07-07-2003, 04:35 AM

'It is now many years ago,' said Glóin, 'that the shadow of disquiet fell upon our people. ...
