That's pretty embarassing, other people no more about what I write than I do. I can't believe I completely forgot that that was me who said it, haha.

It's yours mormegil

mormegil
11-15-2005, 08:03 AM
Sorry about that Boromir.

The Arkenstone cannot be seen as theft, of course, being stolen to avert a needless war.

Have at it.

Sleepy Ranger

Thats TGWBS, isn't it? I think it was in a thread about Hobbits or such.

mormegil
11-15-2005, 08:11 AM
Yes he and I had a grand banter session about Samwise the Great and Bilbo the petty thief.

Sleepy Ranger
11-15-2005, 02:44 PM
Yes Evisse it is correct and your turn it is.

No Evisse its not your turn unless you can figure out who said it to you. :)

Heh, I'll venture a wild guess and say it's you who said it to me. :p

:D Thanks

How about this one: (it's a signature):

I'm hearing images,/I'm seeing songs/ no poet has yet ever painted

mormegil

Dimturiel

Seen him/her (??? sorry) in Palantir a lot lately.

Evisse the Blue
11-17-2005, 01:26 PM

11-17-2005, 01:31 PM
Thanks for the clarification. I assumed but didn't want to state it.

Take especial note of the sentence I have underlined

Glirdan

Sounds like another Werewolf quote. Time to do some digging, again.

Mithalwen
11-22-2005, 03:30 PM
Sounds like Eomer to me ...

mormegil
11-22-2005, 03:35 PM
Mith I agree it does sound like him but it is not...sorry :)

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-22-2005, 03:48 PM
ok I had some time to kill and I found the quote. (hope I have not broken any rules)

It is Formendacil , right ?

mormegil
11-22-2005, 03:49 PM
Correct and no you didn't break any rules but I usually like the thread to be listed with it but not a big deal at all. :)

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-22-2005, 04:01 PM
of course, it was that warg thingy. . .eeh, I have forgoten allready!

Nilpaurion Felagund, perhaps? In the How do you imagine other BDers thread?

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-22-2005, 07:14 PM
perhaps ? Dont you know for sure. . .

You are of course correct Alcarillo. It was too easy was it not? I will make an effort of finding a great quote next time, then.

Alcarillo
11-22-2005, 07:19 PM
And your quote was perfectly fine, although "immobile" and "organic" are not often used on the Barrow-Downs and so are rather easily found via search engine. Now for mine:

So my name means "opposite of multiple cats"

A similarly short but sweet answer.

Congrats, Mith, the thread is yours. :)

Mithalwen
11-23-2005, 01:36 PM
Thank you. This shouldn't be hard but it amuseth me. Even though the answer is, of course, very :p

Try this:

Each village was raided, pillaged, and plundered, and any inhabitants they found were cruelly killed.

Just off the top of my head, that sounds a little like the phantom in WW XII, but I'm not sure of that at all.

'Fraid not. Seek not among the werewolves!

Anguirel
11-25-2005, 03:48 PM
Evidently you need another clue. The quotation is written from the point of view of those doing the pillaging...

I think Rune's forgotten about the thread so I might just seek for a new quotation. Hold tight, angels.

I believe Rune is off on his travels at the moment, so if you can't find it Eomer perhaps you should do a new quote?

Eomer of the Rohirrim

Let the others hunt for a day or so...

I'm pretty sure he made it up though. :p

And so my eyes were not clever enough. Ever get the feeling that you wasted a couple of hours looking for a quotation? :D

It beats work, I suppose...

Onwards Nilp, Rune hasn't been seen for a while. I hope he was not captured by Orcs on his adventures.

Nilpaurion Felagund

Ever get the feeling that you wasted a couple of hours looking for a quotation? :D (Aimè)Well, a few minutes, I think. Blame the search forums function. ;)

03-12-2006, 05:23 PM
Lhuna, how much are we allowed to use the search function? That seems a bit too much like cheating.

Eomer of the Rohirrim
03-13-2006, 09:30 AM
If no-one has the answer after a good few days then I think it's permissable to do a search to keep the thread alive. Although that doesn't always work :o (see above).

Best to start by asking a clue.

Lhuna! Give us a clue!

Lhunardawen
03-15-2006, 02:40 AM
Using the Search function is legal, people.

A clue? If you know this person's real life occupation you won't be amazed that he/she uttered these words at all. That's not much help, is it? :p

Eomer, is it legit to offer one's own siggie?

Of course, I could be wrong and that wasn't yours. I remember seeing it and it does so sound like something you would use but am not 100% sure, so regard this more as a technical question, just so I can save face if I'm wrong. :D

Eomer of the Rohirrim

Thank you kindly. I think you'll know where to search for this quotation. :D

"I seem to recall a reference in the Book of Extra-Lost Tales that there was an alliance between the Wargs and the Gondolindrim....the reason Gondolin fell was that the Wargs were delayed from coming to their assistance as they were guarding Elwing and Silmaril's journey to the sea. Earendil always held this against them, although it was entirely an accident, the fault of the forces of Morgoth, and it may explain Elrond's antipathy towards the Wargs...."

And please remember: don't neglect the old threads. ;)

Eomer of the Rohirrim

It was indeed Formendacil; and what a theory that post posited!

Ta morm. :)

Next up, a D-lightful quote:

Dour, desperate dwarves drink draughts, demand dinner, disturbing dutiful dugout dweller. Dishes disappear during ditty. Dwarves decide dark deeds demanded during dulcet dirge describing dragon's disturbance. Dour dwarves denounce dragon, declaring duty dictates dragon's disappearance. Dwarves discourse dragon's disengagement, delightfully defiant. Dugout dweller discovers daring dignity, dumbly decreeing danger desired. Dugout dweller's dreams disturbing, destiny descends.

Sauce,

Am I permitted to pass the gauntlet to you? I will be flying out on Sunday for about a week on family business. I will have some computer access, but have sworn to keep posting in a Rohan game that Durelin and I are running, and I'm not sure how much more than that I can do.

Rather than letting this thread sit dead in the water, could you "pinch hit" for me? (Unlike you football folk, I am an avid baseball fan. :) )

Am I permitted to pass the gauntlet to you?Well, if you insist ...

Here's another one from the vaults.

You know the funny thing about “enchantment”? The more you bandy the word about, the more you try to study it and categorize it and analyze it and break it down, the more it fades into mist and, like the Faërie folk themselves, disappears.

Goodness! I remember answering that, but I didn't see Ang's reply. I'll offer a new quotation soon.

EDIT: Try this:

Glacial

Work out where you'd find such a quotation. ;-)

Goodness, Eomer, way to go killing the thread. :p

This is as crazy a guess as any, but the single word quotation irresistibly brings burrahobbit to mind.

(Mind you, I'm doing this just to give the thread the good ol' CPR.)

Over a year, eh? :D

Wrong Lhuna, though good guess. It comes from one of those 'so-and-so in one word' threads.

Nah, just more than 7 months. :D

Ah. I should have known. All right, someone with time to spare, hop to it! :p

Thanks for the clue. :)

what is WRONG with you chicks? Can't you see beyond the gender of the participants into the abstraction of what is going on? Does it HAVE to be about skirts versus pants to make it interesting? How about right versus wrong, truth versus lies, life versus death???"

It seems a hint is needed? It's from a rather old thread in the Books. Think two X chromosomes - the thread is mainly for those who bear these. ;)

Was that William Cloud Hicklin? I seem to remember the debate was about Lewis.

I don't think you considered my hint. :p

Fine, I'll give another one: this thread was started by Indiana Jones. ;)

Just now noticed this post. Oops. Well, I can't commit to anything now, due to my limited Downs access. But I might be able to perhaps twist Laurinque's arm.

I could start it up again, if you like...

Hopefully this isn't too hard/easy:

This is probably the most round-about way of ever finding the answer, but:

This morning during French class I learned the french word for eggplant: aubergine. Instantly I thought of this. And then I thought, okay, someone foreign! thinking French foreign. But I automatically thought of Danish from the Bostonmoot-takenover thread. And then I remembered that Rune said it in the Downer Newspaper thread.
