View Full Version : Is it a book quote or movie quote?

I don't think something quite like this has been done yet. If it has, please point me in the right direction.

Here's the game: You try to identify if the given quote is from the FotR and TTT books or movies. Here is a handy link in case you don't have the books or movies memorized:Seat of Kings (http://www.seatofkings.cjb.net/), but please don't use this to find a given quote. Also, give the name of the character who you are quoting, we're not trying to guess who said it, but where.
If you guess it right, your next!

Here's the starter:
Gollum: I found it, I did. Orc's don't use it, Orcs don't know it. Orcs don't cross the Marshes, they go round for miles and miles. Very lucky you came this way. Very lucky you found Sméagol, yes. Follow Sméagol.

Good luck!

Hmm..

I know that there's something similar to that in the book, but I'm pretty sure it's in the movie. Either way, it's in TTT.

I am not sure, as I have not seen the movie or read the book for three weeks now, (that must be corrected!) but wasn't this quote both in the TTT movie and book?
Oh, oops. I just noticed someone already said it. O well.

Arvedui III

It's the movie. The book quote is (and I'm sorry if I get this wrong but I'm too lazy to go and get my book) "your figers would remember their old strengh better, if they grasped a sword-hilt."

Rochelle
03-05-2003, 10:50 PM
This quote was in the movie. Arvedui III I think had the most precise answer smilies/smile.gif Your go!

Airehiriel
03-07-2003, 08:35 AM
Arvedui III, do you want to take the next turn? If not we can let someone else do the next.

If Arvedui doesn't want the next go, can it be my turn? I have a really good quote...

Airehiriel
03-10-2003, 11:13 AM
Well, it has been several days since Arvedui posted, so I would say, yes, Airerûthiel you can do the next. Thanks!

Airehiriel

Airerûthiel, go ahead and post yours.

Airehiriel

Okay, ANYONE can go next!!

Airehiriel
04-16-2003, 08:05 AM
Fine, I will start this one up again myself.

Book or movie quote? And to make it a bit more than just answering book or movie...who said it and to whom were they talking to?

Be careful, or hobbits will go down and light little candles of their own.

a book quote

Carlas
04-17-2003, 02:24 PM
I think that was in the book when Aragorn,Legolas, and Gimli were chasing the band of Uruks that had the two young hobbits.

EDIT: Dayvampyre! I used to have that avatar! Its great isn't it?

Carlas: You can have the turn, since you got more specific than I did.

And I am quite fond of the little piccy, didn't know you used to have it.

elven maiden Earwen
04-17-2003, 04:46 PM
you are both correct.

DayVampyre
04-17-2003, 05:21 PM
Yay! Carlas can have it though.

It pays to be specific smilies/biggrin.gif

Carlas

Thanks! OK, here it is!

I am not altogether on anybody's side, because nobody is altogether on my side,

Hope its not too easy! smilies/biggrin.gif

DayVampyre
04-17-2003, 06:56 PM
Didn't Mr. Ent-Man have a similar to that in the movie?

I'm going to have to go with my gut though and say "book quote"

Carlas
04-17-2003, 06:59 PM
OK, Ill give it to you! But just to clarify, it was Treebeard talking to Merry and Pippin in Fangorn Forest!

You're go DayVampyre! smilies/biggrin.gif

I knew that smilies/tongue.gif

ok......hmmmm....

How long has it been since Saruman bought you? What was the promised price, Grima? When all the men are dead you would take a share of the treasure?

Wormtongue speaking to Eowyn in the movie?

But who knows what she spoke to the darkness, alone, in the bitter watches of the night, when all her life seemed shrinking, and the walls of her bower closing in about her, a hutch to trammel some wild thing in.

There was a quote similar to that in the movie but I think its a book quote.

Airehiriel
04-22-2003, 06:46 AM
Carlas and kittie are correct as to where it is at, but it was not Grima who said it.

Do YOU know who said it?

Carlas
04-23-2003, 02:15 PM
Hmmm, I have no idea, but maybe Gandalf or Saruman? OK, so its an idea, give me a break... smilies/tongue.gif

I've been here for a while I just never have time to post, but I'm getting better!

Airehiriel
04-25-2003, 02:22 AM
Carlas guessed it. It was Gandalf speaking to Eomer in the Houses of Healing. I was hoping it might be a bit of a stumper. It is almost exactly like the line that Grima speaks in the movie.

Good job! You're turn Carlas.

Carlas
04-25-2003, 02:27 PM
Yay! It was agood one! But only so many people would say that!

ok heres an easy one:
Pity? It was pity that stayed his hand!

alaklondewen

This is Gandalf to Frodo in Bag End from the FotR (book).

BethoHOG
04-25-2003, 03:29 PM
Actually, wasn't that Gandalf speaking to Frodo in The Two Towers (book)?

Here's the full quote:
"Pity? It was Pity that stayed his hand. Pity, and Mercy: not to strike without need."

Oh well, I guess it doesn't really matter since we're only guessing if it was from the book or the movie, right? smilies/smile.gif

Nope, it is from FotR: The Shadow of the Past.

Carlas
04-25-2003, 08:52 PM
Alaklondewen is the closest, it was in FOTR! And being precise always helps! smilies/biggrin.gif Your go Alaklondewen! smilies/biggrin.gif

Thanks, Carlas.

I care not. This maybe a little obscure, so let me know if you need a hint.

BethoHOG
04-25-2003, 10:18 PM
Was this Boromir in The Fellowship of the Ring (movie), when Aragorn asked Boromir to give The Ring back to Frodo?

Airehiriel
04-28-2003, 08:16 AM
I think that's correct, BethoHOG.

What do you say alaklondewen?

alaklondewen
04-28-2003, 06:54 PM
Sorry, I'm currently writing two research papers, so my time on here has been scarce. Boromir in the movie is quite right. Well done. You may carry on. smilies/smile.gif

BethoHOG

Thank you, alaklondewen. smilies/smile.gif

Here's the next quote:

"I can see a way down."

If you need a hint, I'll give you one.

Firondoiel

That is in the FOTR movie. It is Aragorn to Pippin about breakfast.

Airehiriel
05-05-2003, 09:12 AM

Dondagnirion

Was it Aragorn to Eomer in TTT (book) about what Eomer said of Galadriel or was it Arwen to Aragorn in TTT (movie) in his dream sequence?

I'm 99.9% sure that this quote is from Gandalf in the book, but there is still that .1% because I haven't been able to find it yet...

*evenstar*
06-15-2003, 02:36 PM
who said, "and some mushrooms the week before"

Narduewen
06-15-2003, 08:25 PM
Pippen said that in the FotR movie when the hobbits were running away from Farmer Maggot.

Airehiriel
06-18-2003, 12:00 PM
That is good evenstar, but you have to answer a question correctly first before you can post your own question. But I think we can let it slid since Firondoiel hasn't posted an answer in a month. Okay...Narduewen its your turn to give us a line and ask if it is a movie or book quote.
