"there's a general shortage of pipe-weed!"
Arvedui III

Um, maybe buttabur when the hobbits are traveling back to the Shire?
Gil-Galad
04-08-2003, 05:19 PM

Airehiriel
04-08-2003, 06:46 PM
Is it when the Hobbits just get back to the Shire and they want to smoke, but they can't? And they are told that all the pipe weed has been shipped out of the Shire.
Lostgaeriel
04-08-2003, 08:27 PM
That was Merry to Sam, Frodo, Pippin & Gandalf as they 'passed through the West-gate of Bree and on towards the Shire'. [Homeward Bound]
'I wonder what old Barliman was hinting at,' said Frodo.
'I can guess some of it,' said Sam gloomily. 'What I saw in the Mirror: trees cut down and all, and my old gaffer turned out of the Row. I ought to have hurried back quicker.'
'And something's wrong with the Soutfarthing evidently,' said Merry. 'There's a general shortage of pipe-weed.'

Thanks, Gil-Galad. Nice to meet you. 'A star shines ...' and all that jazz. Well, maybe I should offer my condolences. If we've met here in The Barrow-Downs, it means you're dead.
So you want a quote from The Return of the King, Book Six (part two) - hmmm.
Don’t be absurd!
alaklondewen
04-09-2003, 08:47 PM
This is Frodo after the Shirriffs threatened to take them to the Lockholes.
To the discomfiture of the Shirriffs Frodo and his companions all roared with laughter. 'Don't be absurd!' said Frodo. 'I am going where I please, and in my own time.
Lostgaeriel, is that Viggo's chin I see?

What off my answer in 2 minutes? You took 3....3 whole minutes breaking my old record but now take that, ha, 2 minutes.
Who's that?
Lostgaeriel
03-10-2004, 02:12 PM
'Who's that? Be off! you can't come in. Can't you read the notice: No admittance between sundown and sunrise?'
From The Scouring of the Shire - a voice shouted that in the dark at our returning hobbit heroes as they hammer on the new outer gates at the Buckland Gate - the speaker isn't definitively identified.
It is most likely Hob Hayward. But it could be another hobbit or even Bill Ferny.
Hob is one of the crowd of hobbits that pours out of the house on the left and opened the further gate and came over the bridge. Merry recognizes him and engages him in (further?) conversation.
Bill Ferny came out of the bigger house on the right after Merry and Pippin climbed the gate. Ferny then had a brief "discussion" with Merry.

Yea thats right........
Lostgaeriel
03-16-2004, 05:53 PM
That was a tricky question, Sleepy Ranger. You made me read (and write) a few more paragraphs than what's usually required!
Here's one:
Do you wonder at that, Ring-bearer?
Sleepy Ranger
03-17-2004, 05:46 AM
"Do you wonder at that, Ring-bearer?" Said Arwen.
Arwen said it to the Ring-Bearer, Frodo Baggins.
Sleepy Ranger

And everyone call me Sleepy
Lostgaeriel
03-23-2004, 08:32 PM
Yes, Sleepy Ranger, you are correct. That's from Many Partings. I believe that is the first Arwen quote in the book. Sorry I was delayed.

Sleepy Ranger
04-03-2004, 01:28 PM

This is RoTK Part 2 quotes and as per my calculations(I didn't do any but it sounds good) & memory tat quotes doesn't appear in any of the 3 books but then again some people do say I have a really bad memory. So perhaps a hint is in order.
Yet again, Sleepy Ranger comes up with a fancy way of saying I have no idea what the answer is... ;) :p :p
Netherlands will win today. just around 5 minutes can hardy wait.
Firefoot
06-26-2004, 03:23 PM
Well, it sounds like something either Gollum or Sam would say about each other in the movies... but I honestly can't think of anywhere in the book that it would be said.
The Saucepan Man
06-27-2004, 06:38 PM
Lûthien Nénharma. Like others, I suspect that you have posted a quote from the film. This game is for quotes from the books. Assuming that I am correct, please feel free to post a new quote from the second book of RotK. If I am not, then please accept my apologies, and the current quote will stand. :)

I don't know why you didn't solve Dimturiel's quote, Sleepy...??
Anyhow, I have now 2 quotes to find! :)
1) is said by Saruman to Gandalf about Galadriel, when Gandalf offered their help to him:
And as for this Lady here, I do not trust her: she always hated me, and schemed for your part.
2) is almost too easy! ;) Gandalf before the black gate, speaking to the armies of the West:
Stand, Men of the West! Stand and wait! This is the hour of doom.
Sleepy Ranger
