Lord, we are but mortal Men, and unlike the Eldar. They may endure for long years awaiting battle with their enemies in some far distant day; but for us the time is short, and our hope and strength soon wither

Re: -

Barahir?

The BBC dramatization was a &quot;radio play&quot;, if that's the right term. About 9 hours long for the whole trilogy. I got it off napster, and I think it is quite good, especially compared to the other dramatization of LotR which is sold in stores. The other one -- I don't know who did it -- is so bad it's almost funny; Frodo sounds like Zeppo Marx.

</p>

HerenIstarion
02-08-2001, 09:55 AM
Barahir is equally incorrect

P.S. Now I know what you mean - I too got it via Napster (btw, from Saulotus), only I have never known it was produced by BBC. It's quite allright (though I only listened to Beren and Luthien story. It has a very solemn beginning - Of Beren and Luthien says profound voice and then comes all the rest. I always wished to have a fireplace to get curled up beside it while listening. Alas for I have it not :(

Re: -

The BBC dramatization was of LotR, not the Silm. There is an audio books reading of Silm (read by Martin Shaw) which is also excellent, I actually got the casette tapes of that right at my public library (and duped the tapes). That is an unabridged reading of the full text. The BBC thing is a dramatization, heavily abridged, with a different person doing each voice. On napster it's in 9 parts, each a little less than an hour. Anyway it's very good. E.g. the opening scene is Gollum in Mordor being tortured by a servant of Sauron, a scene that is hinted at in LotR but not portrayed. P.s. there are also audio book versions of the whole trilogy, also read by Martin Shaw, they were at my public library also. Great to listen to in the car, although the fireplace idea sounds good too.

Little Elanor was nearly six months old, and 1421 had passed to its autumn, when Frodo called Sam into the study.
'It will be Bilbo's Birthday on Thursday, Sam,' he said. 'And he will pass the Old Took. He will be a hundred and thirty-one!'
'So he will!' said Sam. 'He's a marvel!'

I comitt I erred - that was said in the Shire. Sorry. :(

Anyway, another lLoTR quote follows:

I don't trust it. Hark at it singing about sleep now! This won't do at all!'

Correct! You didn't identify the &quot;treasure&quot;, but we all know of whom Celeborn spoke.

That would be Sam to Frodo, after he was stung by Shelob.

"Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends."</p>

Re: New Quote

I dont suppose this is an actual Quote, because it was only thought by this person, but it still appears in quotations in the book, so its fair game. Who said (thought) this:

<blockquote>Quote:<hr> &quot;The storm has burst at last.&quot;<hr></blockquote>

"Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends."</p>

This was thought by Frodo as he watched the army of the Witch-King issuing forth from Minas Morgul.

I dont know. But I will guess that it was Gandalf talking to Aragorn.
