Just like the title says, read the part of the quote below and choose which of the multiple-choices fit. Also include wether what you choose starts the quote or ends it. Or, if none of the multiple-choices fit with the quote, then state instead which ending would infact be correct. By the way, these should be from the LotR books.
Authority is not given to you,
a. But others may contest your will, when it is turned to madness and evil.
b. The City is all set about with flame, and the field is full of foes.
c. Steward of Gondor, to order the hour of your death,

No, no, and no. Since you have between you guessed all the logical answers except for the right one, I will give you the answer (hope nobody took me seriously about the chips).
It's from the Sil:
"But Aule said: 'Be not hasty! We ask a greater thing than thou knowest. Let him have peace yet awhile.'"
I know two of those sound like Treebeard should have said them, but I don't believe he ever uses those exact words. He usually addresses Merry as 'Merry', not 'Master Meriadoc'.
I'm not sure what correct thread procedure is in a case like this, so I'm posing another question. Whoever can identify and complete the quote from answer C can take the thread. It's not difficult.
rutslegolas, please only submit one guess at a time. It makes it more fun for the rest of us!

The Sil? Ahh, that would explain why the chips answer seemed like the only one left. Would have hilarious if it was.

Perhaps. Herm, let's have an easy one:
"He is dead...
A. It's as I feared.
B. As he foresaw
C. I shan't ever be able to smoke again without thinking of him.
D. But not forgotten.
E. Ohohoh, look who know's so much. Turns out your friend here is only mostly dead. With mostly dead, you're still a little bit alive.
Eowyn Skywalker
03-04-2004, 12:33 AM
The correct answer is C.
It is Merry, in regards to King Theoden's death, after he wakes up in the House of Healing, and asks Aragorn, Gandalf, and Pippin for a smoke.
And Pippin says: Smoke then, and think of him.
Or something like that.
Anyhow. the game is to name the quoter and the finished quote.
There. Is it right?

Ere ring was made, or wrought was woe,

Yes you are correct and now the 120th post. Now I shall reveal why I requested that I be the one posting it. If you'll go back and see pages 1 and 2 I posted the last post on both of them and now with this post I have posted the last post on all 3 pages. Kind of nutty but I like it. Its kinda funny. After noticing that I had posted the last posts on the first and second pages I used my brain and figured out at which post this page would end and 120 was the lucky number (40 posts a page if you've noticed). Now I hold the honor of having posted the final post on all 3 pages. (Evil smiley here)
Anyway Heren your turn. :)

Last post on each page -- an issue worthy to be added to Top Ten Signs You're Addicted to the Barrow-Downs (http://69.51.5.41/showthread.php?t=5145) list! ;)
Well, next quote:
Indeed! And what may be your business?
A. My business is with Isengard tonight, with rock and stone
B. Whatever it is, it's my own, my good elves
C. I am bound here till midnight. A sorry business altogether
D. I have, as I told you, some pressing business away south
E. A very ticklish business, it was. Touch and go!
F. It mustn't ask us. Not its business, no, gollum!
G. This is merrymaking not business. Come and go as you like, as long as you don't make a noise
H. Never you mind. I was finding things out, as usual; and a nasty dangerous business it was
I. It's my business to ask questions after nightfall

So then the next one-
I see a white stream
1- And a meadow
2- Burning in a dark land giving way to lost
3- flowing through a cave
4- Around a magnificent city
5- that comes down from the snows
6- thats flows through the valleys
7- with fish
8- there lies the answer
9- where we can swim
10- There we shall rest for a while
10 options must be a new record :)

Thank'ee.
It is a sign of the end and fall of many things, and...

3- a change in the tides of the world.
4- the great battle of our time is coming.

No you don't!
A. Not gold alone brought us hither
B. Put him down, and listen first to what he has to say
C. You are only quite a little fellow in a wide world after all
D. I don't, because I am not sending it
E. Let your legs take their share, we have carried you far enough
F. You don’t belong here; you’re no Baggins - you - you’re a Brandybuck!
G. Yes I do! And I mean what I say, what's more
H. But perhaps you don't mind bad smells
I. Because the bacon knows that it will get back in the pan sooner or later

Now, two of the answers are correct. I'll get along even if only one is guessed out, but I'd be pleased even more if both are.

07-11-2004, 12:23 PM
Is it I,
In the Hobbit I think. Uh a dwarf to Bilbo. er, name the dwarf. Lucky guess time.
um, Is it Dori to Bilbo. wait was it even a dwarf who said it? I'm confused. :(
Firefoot
07-11-2004, 12:34 PM
One of them is E - it was the Dwarves to Bombur, after he had woken up.
HerenIstarion
07-11-2004, 12:37 PM
You've got your dwarf. It was Dori to Bilbo as the latter compared their flight with eagles to feelings of bacon taken by the fork out of the pan and up on shelf
Another correct quess would have been E, dwarves again, to just waken up Bombur expressing the wish to go to sleep again (in Mirkwood)
edit:
Cross-posted wit Firefoot here. Correct you are. I suppose it was my mistake to have two correct answers, my apologies. I never thought about possiblity of two people giving different correct answers almost simultaneously :). Yes, I remember :)
Next one:
Must we go any further?
A. I mean about the gold and the dragon, and all that, and how it got there, and who it belongs to, and so on and further.
B. We must take our chance of that
C. My toes are all bruised and bent, and my legs ache, and my stomach is wagging like an empty sack
D. Yes, I am. I feel I need a holiday, a very long holiday, as I have told you before
E. We are making for the inn here. We are journeying east and cannot go further tonight
F. I am afraid this has been too much for Frodo
G. I suppose not. But so far my only thought has been to get here; and I hope I shan't have to go any further.
H. We must decide before we go further.
I. We cannot go further tonight. Let those call it the wind who will; there are fell voices on the air; and these stones are aimed at us.
J. Where d’you think you’re going? There’s no road for you any further

I would say C
It sounds like something Bilbo would have said on the mountain during the rainstorm in the hobbit.

I'm quite certain you've got the speaker down but I'm also rather certain it wasn't about Halbarad. Ah well, we'll wait for Evisse.

Yep, it is Aragorn to Theoden. Sleepy was right as well, though, it's not about Halbarad, it's about the host of orcs.
