I'm sure that there are other than me enjoying this great new videogame. So here is a game of quotes said in the levels of this game. To get it right one must guess who said it. I'll start:
They require burning.
Edited to clarify that this game covers all games based on Tolkien's works. Both the videogame in question and the speaker must be identified.
Added rule: One has to identify the level of the game as well.
The games I know is:
The Fellowship of the Ring
The Two Towers
The Return of the King
The Hobbit
If anyone know about other games, let me know.

Road to Isengard, said by Saruman.
Thorongil

Correct. Please continue.

Next question-
I have a token I was bidden to show thee
Too easy, then again finish the game about a million times and you'll know every single thing about it.
Phervasaion
01-13-2004, 03:01 PM
That was the mouth of Sauron to Aragorn and the others at the black gate.
Sleepy Ranger
01-14-2004, 05:57 AM
Yes that was it.
Phervasaion
01-14-2004, 01:30 PM
okay another easy one.
Easterlings, Orcs. Get them all.
Thorongil
01-14-2004, 01:51 PM
I think that was Aragorn in the fields of Pelennor.
The Saucepan Man
01-14-2004, 06:26 PM
I must admit that I was in two minds whether to let this continue, but, on reflection, I don't see why it shouldn't.
However, it does seem to me that it is likely to be rather easy (for those who have played the game) and somewhat limited if it is restricted to just one game. How about expanding it to cover all games based on Tolkien's works and requiring that both the game and the speaker be identified? Any objections?
Thorongil
01-15-2004, 01:48 AM
That's a good idea. All Tolkien related videogames included then. Is it possible to change the title of this thread?

01-20-2004, 11:16 AM
This is a foul, foul place.
gimli in the paths of the dead in RotK
Thorongil
01-21-2004, 01:50 AM
Nope.
Phervasaion
01-21-2004, 01:17 PM
can you give us a clue?... Like what game its in. (Its probably a game i dont have).
Sleepy Ranger
01-22-2004, 03:02 AM
Gimli about Fangorn in Tehe Two Towers
Thorongil
01-23-2004, 01:52 AM
Well, by saying the game, I've given you half of the answer, but it is in RotK.
Sleepy Ranger
01-23-2004, 05:14 AM
Gimli, the Southern Gate
Thorongil
01-23-2004, 05:47 AM
It's not that either.
Arvedui III
01-24-2004, 03:30 PM
Herm... Sam in Shelob's lair, maybe?
The Perky Ent
01-24-2004, 03:34 PM
One of the Ents in the Isengard level?
Thorongil
01-26-2004, 02:46 AM
No, I'ts not. Keep trying.
Sleepy Ranger
01-26-2004, 05:59 AM
This is getting too much. Sam or Frodo in Escape from Osgiliath
Thorongil
01-26-2004, 06:28 AM
Still not right. Do you want another hint?
Sleepy Ranger
01-26-2004, 06:31 AM
Yes a hint would do nicely.
Thorongil
01-26-2004, 08:02 AM
It was said by a secret character. (Doesn't leave you much to choose from)
Phervasaion
01-26-2004, 02:52 PM
I got it now. Thats Faramir at the start of the Palantir if Saruman level.
Thorongil
01-27-2004, 01:50 AM
Correct.
Phervasaion
01-27-2004, 02:48 PM
Okay heres one.
Kill them all!
Thorongil
01-31-2004, 04:27 AM
It needed some level searhing, but could it be Isildur in TTT's prologue?
Phervasaion
02-01-2004, 01:15 PM
Yep thats right. Your turn Thorongil.
Thorongil
02-02-2004, 01:53 AM
Try this one:
What have we here?
Thorongil
02-10-2004, 04:26 AM
Come on, it can't be that difficult. Do you need a hint?
Sleepy Ranger
02-10-2004, 10:48 AM
Bilbo in The Hobbit upon finding the Ring. If not tehn I need a hint
Thorongil
02-10-2004, 11:59 PM
It's no hobbit.
It's from TTT.
Thorongil
02-18-2004, 04:36 AM
Are there going to be another guess? Not much happening here.
BTW, Happy Birthday Sleepy!
Arvedui III
02-19-2004, 09:16 PM
I'm guessing an orc would say that. Hint, perhaps?
The Perky Ent
02-19-2004, 10:24 PM
Would it be provoking orcs in Fangorn Forest?
Thorongil
02-20-2004, 12:22 AM
It's a fellowship member saying this in a Rohan level.
Arvedui III
02-20-2004, 05:23 PM
Herm...Gimli, maybe in the Westfold level.
The Perky Ent
02-20-2004, 06:44 PM
Gimli in the Edoras level?
Thorongil
02-21-2004, 02:34 AM
Wrong person. Almost there!
The Perky Ent
02-21-2004, 08:06 AM
Legolas in the Edoras level?
Thorongil
02-22-2004, 02:24 AM
Well, this game doesn't ask for level, so Perky Ent is right. It was Legolas in the Westfold level. Should we add level as a rule or keep it as it is?
Sleepy Ranger
02-22-2004, 02:28 AM
Add the level rule or there'll be too many guesses and it gets too easy.
The Perky Ent
02-22-2004, 10:06 AM
Yeah, let's add the level rule because there a limited amount of characters, but the levels multiply them! here goes a really easy one: I'd say that concludes negotiations
Sleepy Ranger
02-22-2004, 11:51 AM
Gimli. The Black Gate.
The Perky Ent
02-22-2004, 01:31 PM
Yes. It is. Gimli. At the black. gate. Go. Now.
The Perky Ent
02-27-2004, 10:46 AM
Sleepy?
Sleepy Ranger
02-29-2004, 09:51 AM
Sorry forgot.
Defend yourself sire.
The Perky Ent
02-29-2004, 10:04 AM
Ooo, toughy! um...how about Gimli in the Paths of the Dead level?
Thorongil
02-29-2004, 10:07 AM
I think it's a soldier talking do Isildur in TTT's prologue.
Sleepy Ranger
02-29-2004, 10:09 AM
Correct Level, correct person to whom its being spoken. But that soldier has a name. ;)
Thorongil
02-29-2004, 10:14 AM
Was that mentioned in the game? The only two I've seen with names in that level is Isildur & Elrond. So is it Elrond?
Sleepy Ranger
02-29-2004, 10:22 AM
Yea. Thorongil its your turn.
PS-Can I call you Thor?
Thorongil
02-29-2004, 10:27 AM
If you're too lazy for the remaining five letters, why not.
Ok, next quote:
Your end is near
Shouldn't give you much trouble.
rutslegolas
03-02-2004, 10:50 PM
i think its from gandalf to the witch king
Thorongil
03-03-2004, 03:24 PM
Nope.
Thorongil
03-10-2004, 01:33 AM
Hey, wake up people. It's not that hard.
Sleepy Ranger
03-10-2004, 03:55 AM
Saruman in the TT Secret Level?
Thorongil
03-10-2004, 06:50 AM
You couldn't be more right if you tried.
Thorongil
03-16-2004, 12:12 AM
Hey Sleepy...*poke* Wake up!
Sleepy Ranger
03-20-2004, 06:20 AM
Since I'm feeling evil I'll give a tough one.
A helmet.
Sleepy Ranger
03-23-2004, 06:33 AM
Anyone? If you'd like a hint please ask :)
Thorongil
03-23-2004, 06:36 AM
Well, that would be nice. And as far as my knowledge go, this is not from TT or ROTK. Am I right?
Sleepy Ranger
03-23-2004, 10:51 AM
Yes you're right. Not TT, not RoTK. LEaves us with the FoTR. ;)
And I know what you're thinking. Don't think it. You're on the wrong track.
Its a tough one.
Thorongil
03-23-2004, 03:18 PM
How can you know what I'm thinking? I have played it for 15 minutes, and i quit. That was really boring.
Sleepy Ranger
03-24-2004, 10:07 AM
Of course I know what you're thinking. It is not from the PS2 or PC version.
Thorongil
03-25-2004, 12:15 AM
Then what? XBox?
Sleepy Ranger
03-25-2004, 12:50 PM
no, Gamebboy Advance
Orcrist
03-25-2004, 08:10 PM
Gimli in Moria?(I've never played that game) :D
Thorongil
03-25-2004, 11:57 PM
Is the game that different from console to console?
Sleepy Ranger
03-26-2004, 03:24 AM
The GBA versions are different from the others. But the PC, PS2, Xbox and Gamecube are the same.
Sleepy Ranger
04-01-2004, 01:12 PM
Doesn't anyone on the 'Downs own a GBA with the LoTR:FoTR? IF no one does I have another question. 'Cause this'll be impossible to get even with a million guesses. And thats not exaggerating it ;)
New question- I guess it was just the wind.
Thorongil
04-01-2004, 02:04 PM
I'll see if I can get it for ps2. It can't be that different.
Sleepy Ranger
04-01-2004, 02:14 PM
No worries on that. I posted a new question. The answer of the old one was a Man in Bree answering a riddle posed by another man in Bree.
Sleepy Ranger
04-03-2004, 01:43 PM

Orcrist
04-06-2004, 09:00 PM
Merry in Fangorn?
Thorongil
04-07-2004, 02:37 AM
I have a feeling this is FotR too. At least I don't recognize it.
Sleepy Ranger
04-07-2004, 09:12 AM
Nope this isn't from FoTR.
Arvedui III
04-07-2004, 08:29 PM
Herm... sounds like Sam, in Osgiliath maybe?
Orcrist
04-07-2004, 08:46 PM
Sam in Shelob's Lair
If thats not right, can we have a clue?THe game maybe?
Sleepy Ranger
04-08-2004, 12:55 PM
Its from the Hobbit.
Orcrist
04-10-2004, 06:43 PM
Bilbo in "Overhill and Underhill"
Sleepy Ranger
04-11-2004, 01:29 AM
Wrong. Not said by Bilbo and not in this level.
Orcrist
04-11-2004, 08:03 PM
That one farmer in the berry maze in Hobbiton?(Sorry, I don't know his name)
Sleepy Ranger
04-12-2004, 05:40 AM
Nope.If you've played this level you'd have heard it a million times.
The Saucepan Man
04-12-2004, 10:34 AM
It's one of the Elven guards in the Elven-King's palace. I'm working from memory here, but is it one of the guards in the first room that Bilbo comes to when he enters the caves? The female one nearest the exit, I think.
Sleepy Ranger
04-12-2004, 11:32 AM
Yes thats it Saucepan Man. Actually almost every ELf in that level says it. :)
The Saucepan Man
04-13-2004, 06:53 PM
Actually almost every ELf in that level says it. Well that just goes to show how quickly I finished the level (*ahem* if only ...) ;)
Next question, and I am hoping that this will be quite tricksy:
May the stars shine upon your face!
The Perky Ent
04-13-2004, 07:09 PM
I'm guessing something from the Hobbit or FOTR? In other words, is it from HOBBIT or FOTR
The Saucepan Man
04-13-2004, 07:15 PM
No hints ... yet. :p
Thorongil
04-13-2004, 11:12 PM
That one is not from TTT or RotK. No one says anything like that there. I need more games!!
The Saucepan Man
04-14-2004, 11:43 AM
You are correct, Thorongil. It's not from TTT or RotK. I told you that it was tricksy. Keep guessing ...
What?!! You still want a hint? Oh, OK then. It is from what is probably one of the less well-known games.
What do you mean that doesn't help? ;)
Sleepy Ranger
04-14-2004, 11:53 AM
Less known games? Could you tell us what platform its on? I have this strange feeling its one of those really old games. That have now gone out of existance.
The Saucepan Man
04-14-2004, 11:57 AM
Are you implying something about my age there, Sleepy? :D
I have it on X-Box (I don't know whether it is also available on other systems).
Sleepy Ranger
04-14-2004, 12:16 PM
I just went through a list of all the Xbox games ever made(and still to be made) and all the games I ended up with were
Hobbit
LoTR:FoTR
LoTR:TTT
LoTR:RoTK
LoTR:The treason of Isengard
So is it any of these?
The Saucepan Man
04-14-2004, 12:22 PM
It carries the name of one of those, although it is perhaps not the one that you are thinking of. [insert evil smilie]
Enough clues. I want answers. :D
Orcrist
04-14-2004, 08:57 PM
Elrond to Thorin&Co in the Hobbit?
The Saucepan Man
04-15-2004, 05:46 PM
No. Wrong game, although it is a good guess.
Try working out who might have said this and to whom. Once you get that, it won't be too difficult to work out where it was said. If you can give me those three things, the thread is yours.
The Saucepan Man
04-17-2004, 06:18 PM
Come on folks. Think who might have said this sort of thing.
And here's another hint. This character is not one who you would necessarily expect to feature in a videogame (or at least not in the parts where the player controls the action).
Thorongil
04-17-2004, 11:06 PM
Well, Without having played the game in question it is difficult, but it sounds like something Gildor could have said when he met Frodo.
The Saucepan Man
04-18-2004, 01:50 PM
No, the character is one more likely to feature in a videogame than Gildor.
Orcrist's guess was close, except that the game wasn't the Hobbit and the character saying the quote wasn't Elrond. Now, that should be a BIG hint. :p
Orcrist
04-18-2004, 08:47 PM
Celeborn to the Fellowship in Lothlorien? (FOTR)
The Saucepan Man
04-19-2004, 03:21 AM
No. Your earlier guess was closer.
Orcrist
04-19-2004, 08:09 PM
Arwen to Aragorn in Rivendell?(FOTR)
The Saucepan Man
04-20-2004, 05:43 AM
Now you're getting very warm indeed ...
Orcrist
04-20-2004, 08:14 PM
Elrond to Aragorn in Rivendell?(FOTR)
(Dang you  )
The Saucepan Man
04-20-2004, 08:48 PM
Colder. :D
Thorongil
04-21-2004, 01:35 AM
Arwen to Frodo in Rivendell?(FOTR)
The Saucepan Man
04-21-2004, 07:34 AM
Bingo! Well done, Thorongil. :)
The game is indeed FotR, although not the pure fighting-based one that seems to be the more popular. This one follows the book story more (it has Bombadil and the Barrow-Wight, for example) and you play (on different levels) Frodo, Aragron and Gandalf. Personally, I preferred it as there was more exploring and puzzle-solving involved, but that's probably just me.
Your up next, Thorongil.
Thorongil
04-28-2004, 11:47 PM
Sorry for the delay. Just a stroke of bad memory. Well, anyway, here is the next quote:
Wrong way!
Thorongil
05-05-2004, 12:52 AM
What? No guesses? I'm sure you gamers out there can handle this one.
Orcrist
05-13-2004, 08:39 PM
How about Aragorn to Gimli in paths of the dead?(ROTK)
(Hey, how about giving us the game since no one seems to be guessing)
Thorongil
05-13-2004, 11:09 PM
Close guess. Check a few levels later in the game.
Orcrist
05-14-2004, 08:24 PM
Gimli in the Pellenor Fields?
Thorongil
05-17-2004, 07:07 AM
Nope. This is not something they usually say. You have to check places a little out of the way.
Orcrist
05-18-2004, 08:45 PM
Sam in Shelob's Lair?(Could I have the character?Pleassssse my preciousssss.)
Thorongil
05-19-2004, 01:46 AM
Since I'm such a nice guy, I'll tell you: Both Aragorn and Legolas said it in the same level.
Orcrist
05-20-2004, 08:39 PM
How about Legolas in Southern Gate?
Thorongil
05-25-2004, 06:31 AM
Yes. Aragorn if you go the other way.
Orcrist

Orcrist
06-02-2004, 07:47 PM

Sleepy Ranger

Orcrist
06-07-2004, 11:39 AM
Nope. :D
Sleepy Ranger
06-07-2004, 11:42 AM
I know this.... I just can't remember. How about a hint?
Elwe Singollo
06-07-2004, 12:48 PM
Was it an orc in The Road to Isengard?
Orcrist
06-07-2004, 08:17 PM
Elwe Singollo got it.
Elwe Singollo

Thorongil
06-18-2004, 12:59 AM
I'm going away for a week or so, so I can't post a new question. The thread is open.
Lindir
06-18-2004, 10:43 AM
Who says:
"Go back to the pits that spawned you!"
and in what level?
Sauron_the_Abhorred
06-18-2004, 01:54 PM

Ok, I got a kinda tricksy one. Who said this to who, in what game, and where??
Oh! I've been spotted!
Orcrist
06-21-2004, 04:25 PM
Does Bilbo say it in the Elven King's Hall?
Lûthien Nénharma
06-21-2004, 05:54 PM
"The Dead do not suffer the living to pass," king of the dead
"What say you?" Aragorn
Lûthien Nénharma
06-21-2004, 05:56 PM
as sam:
"Ok samwise it's time to become a hero!"
"This is gonna take all my strength"

Welcome to the Downs, Lûthien Nénharma, and to the Quotable Quotes forum. :) The general idea of the games here is that you try to guess who said the quote posted by the question-setter. If you are right, then you get to ask the next question. Check out the Quotable Quotes rules (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=6004) for further guidance.
The current question was set by Sauron_the_Abhorred a few posts up. Orcrist has given an answer, but it has not yet been confirmed, so please feel free to post your own answer to the question.

06-22-2004, 02:17 PM
You were really close when you said Bilbo-yes it was in the Hobbit-but wrong line-sorry. :D
Orcrist
06-22-2004, 08:30 PM
Are you saying it is in the Hobbit but Bilbo didn't say it? Or it wasn't in the kings Hall?
Could it be Bilbo in the Trolls Clearing?
Sleepy Ranger
06-23-2004, 03:41 AM
Wasn't it one of those Hobbit kids whom Bilbo plays hide and seek with in the um first level?
Sauron_the_Abhorred
06-23-2004, 11:20 AM
What I meant, Orcrist, was that you were close when you said Bilbo said it, and it was in the Hobbit, but it wasn't in the Elvenking's halls, or in the Shire, Sleepy Ranger. Sorry.
Sleepy Ranger
06-23-2004, 01:06 PM
Was it outside the Elven-Kings halls when seen by a gaurd?
or maybe in the Warehouse in Laketown?
Orcrist
06-23-2004, 08:46 PM
Could it be that one Dwarf Bilbo rescues in Riddles in the Dark?
Sauron_the_Abhorred
06-24-2004, 05:41 AM
I'll give you some hints, then.
