It is fun to ask Quotes from any part of the book, which most of the time only a few can answer, but it seems a little hard for me. So as long as it will be hard, why not make it a really nice Quote that you will remember. That is what I want in this thread.. Things like:

&quot;Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them?&quot;

But I wont ask that because I want this to be hard. I have read LOTR 3 times through, and just on this third time I found this Quote and have remembered it ever since. So who said this:

&quot;One who can not cast a treasure away at need is in fetters.&quot;

Very nice. Your turn.

P.S.: Does Tolkien use exclamation points for all commands in the books? I have taken some German classes and they do the same thing.

Seeing as I just read that Chapter yesterday, It was Merry in the Houses of Healing. <img src=smile.gif ALT=":)">

Re: Memorable Quotes

I am definitely much better at this than I use to be..

Who said this and where:

<blockquote>Quote:<hr> &quot;The Third Age was my age. I was the enemy of Sauron; and my work is finished. I shall go soon. The burden must now lie on you and your kindred.&quot;<hr></blockquote>

Easy enough, but I like it.

"Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends."</p>

Is it perhaps Saruman "speaking" to Gandalf on the mountaintop before they decide to go towards Moria. Gandalf fears Moria, but Saruman guesses it first. Ummm... I am not sure if that is correct, but it sounds good to me! smilies/cool.gif

Oh! I got it! It was Dain to Thrain, after Thrain wanted to reclaim Khazad-Dum.(Or so I have heard from my online sources.)

Wow, I had totally forgotten about this question - that's right, Belegfanaion.

Okay, here is your next quote; who shall be first to figure it out, I wonder?
"... it shall be set in imperishable crystal to be an heirloom of my house and a pledge of good will between the Mountain and the Wood until the end of days."

Who says it, to whom, and (most importantly) why/under what circumstances?

Best of luck, my friends! smilies/biggrin.gif

I thought it might be kind of easy for all you very experienced people! Excellent work. It is your turn now, Turambar!

It matters little who is the enemy, if we cannot beat off his attack.

Someone like Prince Imrahil at the council summoned to protect Minas Tírith, maybe, before the Battle of the Pelennor Fields?

It was Gandalf to the Company of Nine Walkers on the slopes of Caradhras concerning the snowstorm

You said someone so...
"Hallo Bran"
Oops wrong book.
This I say to you, lord, with the eyes of death: though we part here for ever, and I shall not look on your white walls again, from you and from me a new star shall arise.
