Alright, I think that this Quotes section is fun and a really great idea, but for periods of DAYS nothing goes on and I can never seem to answer anybodys quotes. And it's all because everyone is waiting for the person who answered the last quote to ask another one while there computer is broken down! <img src=smile.gif ALT=":)"> And if I were to open a new Thread every time I felt like posting a quote, I think that you would quickly be irritated with it.

So this thread breaks the rules.. you can post a Quote ANY time you like and answer them if you feel like it too. Have fun!

Re: Post a Quote ANY time you feel like It!

To start things off, I found a Quote that I liked while I was reading today.

<blockquote>Quote:<hr> &quot;Get you gone, for your embassy is over and death is near to you. We did not come here to waste words in treating with Sauron, faithless and accursed; still less with one of his slaves. Begone!&quot;<hr></blockquote>

Sounds like Gandalf admonishing the Mouth of Sauron.

If I'm right, ask another. I just wanted to answer one and pass on this message: Our 'rules' actually are that if you just can't wait for other people to answer a quote, start your own new thread (which is exactly what you did, good job).

Very nice Falmar. Feel free to post a Quote any time you like, because I think that you could come up with some very nice ones. <img src=smile.gif ALT=":)">

Here is another Quote that I have wanted to ask:

Re: Post a Quote ANY time you feel like It!

You are so close, yet you are not. <img src=smile.gif ALT=":)"> This would be almost impossible to find, because of the way the quote is said. It is actually Bombadil talking about himself, he talks to himself in a third-person form sometimes, if you havent noticed. So I will give it to you. You can post a Quote any time you like, and I am glad to try to figure it out.

Nice Watcher. <img src=smile.gif ALT=":)"> That is correct. Post up a quote yourself now.

As for me, I feel like doing another. Who said this and where:

<blockquote>Quote:<hr> &quot; For if that tongue is not soon to be heard in every corner of the West, let all put doubt aside that this thing is what the Wise have declared: the treasure of the Enemy; fraught with all his malice; and in it lies a great part of his strength of old. Out of the Black Years come the words that the Smiths of Eregion heard, and knew they were betrayed: One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the Darkness bind them.&quot;<hr></blockquote>

"Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends."</p>

That would be Gandalf addressing the Council of Elrond after a rubuke from Elrond himself for speaking the tongue of Mordor...

If i may add a quote myself...

ah.. That was some nice &quot;camping&quot;. I actually went with a group to go stay 2 nights in a little camping place next to Manteca Waterslides. <img src=smile.gif ALT=":)"> I had no idea. It was fun, but we got stuck next to a camping spot of some old ladies who got drunk morning, day, and night. They were humping everything for fun, laughing so much that you couldnt sleep, and there liscense plate was &quot;BudWimn&quot;. And on our other side there were some guys who were singing rap songs all night long. They were really good at it, but still. <img src=smile.gif ALT=":)"> I can only take so much.

And, on a good note, there were some really hot girls that went with us.

I am back! smilies/smile.gif Nobody knows, but I am Gandalf The White. I came back to the forum a while ago, in this new name, but just now have discovered that my old threads in the Quotes Section were still here. Now it is time to get things in order. Here are two of my quotes that nobody has answered yet, although I think one of them is a random quote at the top of the page put there by Barrow-Whight because of me. smilies/smile.gif See if you can answer this one now. Nobody has figured it out yet.
"He knew the dark under the stars when it was fearless-before the Dark Lord came from the Outside."

As for this quote...
"Personally I have no hopes at all, and wish I was safe back at home."

I was the one who originally posted it, so I know it was said by Bilbo Baggins. If you look closely, Falmar has already given the answer in a previous reply.

Hi Estelyn Telcontar!

Your quote "I gave Hope to the Dúnedain,
I have kept no hope for myself." is the translation of what Gilraen said to her son, Aragorn, when they last parted. (She had left Rivendell and returned to Eriador; Aragorn visited her there before she died.) She actually said, "Onen i-Estel Edain, ú-chebin estel anim."

Curuquendil, your quote is by Eowyn, speaking to Faramir.
I'll repeat my yet to be solved quote from above:
"It is easier to shout stop! than to do it!"

Treebeard to Merry and Pippin. Though I probably have no business answering since I haven't had time to dig up "copy-cat" quotes in another thread!

Right, Maril! Are you going to give us a new one or should someone else keep going?

Hi Belin! Frodo said "I don't keep water in my pockets." to Pippin that first morning "camping out" after they set ouf from Bag End to Crickhollow. Maybe too easy, but very funny. Welcome to the Barrow Downs!

Hey, Arwen! Two quotes at a time could be confusing, so let's try to get the first one answered first before we tackle yours, OK?

Thank you for the welcome! I didn't see another reply to your quote, so here's my guess -

Sam, speaking about the Elves, to the patrons at the Green Dragon in Bywater?

Estelyn Telcontar>>

(Queen) Arwen said it...:

I shall not go with him now when he departs to the
Havens; for mine is the choice of Luthien, and as she so have I chosen, both
the sweet and the bitter.

The choice was to be Aragorns wife, and with that be immortal.

right?

You're right, Androndo, it was Arwen - though her choice was to become mortal, not immortal. Go ahead, give us a new quote to work on!

'Minas Tirith is burning.'

Aragorn, Captain of the greatest Corsairs' dromund, to Legolas & Gimli as they made their way up the Anduin to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.

OK, I gave it a few days, so a newbie could answer. It's Gandalf to Pippen in Moria, when Pippin dropped a stone into a well.

Correct? smilies/smile.gif

BTW: Welcome to the Downs, Took. I hope you have a great time here. smilies/biggrin.gif

Polly Sandybanks

That was definitely Gandalf. But wasn't it a skeleton that Pippin accidentally pushed into that well!? Not that it matters, but. Or maybe that's just in the movie. It was a while since I read the book.. I'll re-read it soon. smilies/smile.gif

Polly Sandybanks

Oh no.. sorry.. *remembers*. The skeleton is only in the movie.. in the book it was a stone. You're right. smilies/smile.gif

It is frpm RotK, just as I said. It is Ghân talking to Theoden. It is in the chapter "The Ride of the Rhorrim."

But that will not save you
who said it and under what circumsatnces?

That was Aragorn to Sam in the Prancing Pony after Sam rushes in and says "let him go or I'll have your longshanks". Aragorn is refering to the fact that Sam has a "stout heart" but that it won't save him.
