In this thread you´re supposed to post a quote from LOTR in Swedish, Icelandic, Norweigan or Danish. Ok? Everyone is free to answer and post, and the rules goes as usual.
I´ll start:

"Jag har inte känt mig så ung sedan jag var ute och vandrade med er barn" (FOTR)

Let the fun begin! smilies/evil.gif

EDIT: I have decided to let people post quotes in
any Scandinavian language, and renamed the thread.

I dont know if its apropriate to have an scandinavian qoute thread in an english speaking forum - but untill someone tells me otherwise I'll give it a shot:
Treebeard to Merry and Pippin ?

Telchar
10-03-2002, 06:24 AM
or maybe rather Legolas to the Fellowship ?

Eärendil
10-03-2002, 10:42 AM
Ooops, I meant it was in The Two Towers...
Well, I am not sure if it´s ok or not, but no wrong in posting one before knowing, right? I am sure we will notice..

Yes, it´s Legolas, talking to Aragorn and Gimli. smilies/smile.gif

Try this one:

It´s Hirgon, (or the man that was with him, a bit difficult to know from the Swedish version... smilies/wink.gif). Phew, that took some time to find! (And now I just hope I am right..)

Shh, let's not think about that... smilies/wink.gif
Right, a new one (I haven't any of the swedish books here with me (am in England at the moment), and just searched the net for a quote. Found an extremely easy one):

11-05-2002, 02:33 AM
Hm...maybe I should have said the rules (the rules for this thread) more clearly.
Melephelwen - You´re supposed to post quotes from LoTR, nothing else. So I am afraid your quote will not be counted. Please post a new one.
Also, for those who are not sure about the rules; if you guess on a quote and know you´re right, and it hasn´t been confirmed in three days, you may continue. If a guess has been confirmed (that it´s right), and no new quote comes from the person who has the turn in seven days, anyone may go.
Thank you for your co-operation. smilies/wink.gif

Eärendil

Melephelwen
11-06-2002, 02:34 PM
Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize it had to be from LotR... Silly me smilies/rolleyes.gif Then I'll dive into the books to find a new one...
"Jeg kan ikke synge mere," sagde han. "Dette her er kun en del af det, for jeg har glemt meget. Den er lang og sørgelig, for den fortæller, hvordan sorgen kom til Lothlórien, blomsternes Lórien, dengang dværgene vakte det onde i bjergene."
It's in FotR. smilies/wink.gif
Btw, the other, not-counting quote, was by Turgon, in case anybody wanna know. smilies/tongue.gif

Eärendil
11-07-2002, 03:00 AM
Legolas?

Eärendil
11-07-2002, 06:27 AM
I know I am right, (I looked it up after guessing), so I´ll just continue now, so you won´t have to confirm... smilies/wink.gif

If you guess on this one and now you´re right, then you may continue, as I might not be able to come here for a little while.

Mlo
11-07-2002, 10:13 AM
Ehh... hmm... Merry, maybe...?

Eärendil
11-07-2002, 10:40 AM
Nope Mlo, it´s not Merry.

Laivine
11-09-2002, 10:50 AM
Oh I know that one, it's one of my favourites! It's Gandalf to the hobbits, when the Ringbearers are going to the Grey Havens.

eleniwilwarin

en vild gissning: Smeagol (Gollum) smilies/rolleyes.gif

Laivine
11-11-2002, 07:44 AM
Nope, it isn't Gollum...

Mlo
11-11-2002, 09:11 AM

Laivine
11-11-2002, 10:54 AM
Nah, it isn't Elrond either smilies/smile.gif

Laivine
11-13-2002, 08:03 AM
I can give a little hint then... It was said in Minas Tirith.

Eärendil
11-13-2002, 11:12 AM
Gandalf?

Melephelwen
11-14-2002, 12:41 PM
I think it's Théoden, allthough I'm not sure?

Laivine
11-16-2002, 11:08 AM
Whoever wants to say a quote may do so now, as clever little me has managed to forget who said the quote I posted. Can you get any more stupid?! Grrrr...

Eärendil
11-16-2002, 11:59 AM
Lol! Well, that happens to everyone. smilies/biggrin.gif
Try to look it up perhaps? Or else we can just wait for someone to post a new quote. (I won´t though, don´t have the books here.)

Melephelwen
11-17-2002, 02:00 PM
I can go then...
Btw, I just found out that I managed to screw up in my guess, and wrote Théoden, when I ment Denethor! Anyways, here's a quote:
Måtte Herredet bestå for evigt uden at visne!
I better say it is in RotK and not said by a hobbit...

Laivine
11-19-2002, 01:07 PM
Uhmmmm... Eomer?! smilies/rolleyes.gif

Melephelwen
11-20-2002, 01:31 PM

Melephelwen
11-26-2002, 09:03 AM
Noooo... not really. Maybe I should say a hint: it's said in Minas Tirith!

Eärendil
11-26-2002, 11:11 AM
Faramir? (To be honest, I don´t have a clue! smilies/tongue.gif)

Eärendil
12-01-2002, 02:18 PM
Tjoho Melephelwen, where are you?

Melephelwen
12-02-2002, 10:03 AM
No it's not Faramir.
And sorry for not replying, to be honest I forgot that my quote was up...
Should I tell who it is?

-Imrahil-
12-02-2002, 11:34 AM

12-04-2002, 03:16 AM

Éowyn? smilies/wink.gif
Anyway, this is getting slightly ridiculous.... Melephelwen?

Melephelwen
12-10-2002, 01:56 PM
Aragorn. Sorry for being so long! Honestly!
And I won't be on the next week, so somebody else must go. And next time I do this stupid stuff, if I'm not "saying" anything in say, 3 days, just jump on to the next quote! Really, I didn't mean to be away! smilies/rolleyes.gif

Eärendil
12-11-2002, 02:17 AM
Aragorn...doh. (Why didn´t I think of that?..)
Alright then, I am posting a new quote...:
Och ändå måste vi försöka, sade _____. Det är inte värre än jag hela tiden räknat med. Jag har aldrig trott det möjligt att komma över, och ser lika lite hopp nu som förut.
It´s in ROTK.

eleniwilwarin
12-14-2002, 04:40 PM
wild guess Merry?

Laivine
12-15-2002, 09:48 AM
Sounds like something Frodo says to Sam, in Mordor (obviously)...?! I might not be on in a while, so if I'm right and don't post a quote in 2 days, anyone can post..

Eärendil
12-16-2002, 03:23 AM
You are correct Laivine. Please proceed. smilies/smile.gif

Laivine
12-16-2002, 12:45 PM

Laivine?

Laivine
12-26-2002, 09:32 AM

Nenya
12-28-2002, 01:46 PM
Hey, what about quotes in finnish..? I know, I know, it isn't a germanic language, but Finland is afterall one of the Nordic countries, eh?
Damn. It just occured to me that noone except me could probably quote in finnish...

Anyways: This is just on tip of my tongue. *thinks hard*
Oh well, let us guess: Gandalf? In -*thinks even harder*- Bag End, to Frodo? Probably not, but it was worth the shot.

Eärendil
12-29-2002, 05:54 AM
No, sorry, no quotes in Finnish. I have absolutely nothing against Finnish, but the language, as you said yourself, isn´t a Germanic language. The quotes should be in Swedish, Norweigan, Danish or Icelandic, as I stated when I started this thread.
Check out the Quotes in other languages-thread, there you can post quotes in Finnish. smilies/smile.gif

The above is quoted from memory since I haven't got the books here - but it should be pretty accurate. I'll give hints if people find it hard. It's of course part of a remark made by one of the main characters in the books - but it's not in the movies.

Its frodo to gollum..?

Lalaith

Yes, Gayahithwen, it was Icelandic. It's the oldest of the Nordic languages (ie most similar to Old Norse). And it is pretty complicated, I agree.
The Frodo quote btw was said to Gildor.
We now await Earendil's challenge....

Eärendil
08-23-2003, 01:04 PM
Ok, I have finally got hold of one of the books, and will now post a quote, a long one. (Because I feel like it..)It´s from The Fellowship of the Ring:
Så det var alltså på det sättet det gick med ringen! utropade han. Om någonsin denna historia berättats nere hos oss, har den sedan länge glömts bort. Jag har hört om den Stora Ringen av honom, vars namn ingen vågar nämna, men vi trodde att den försvann ur världen när hans första rike lades i ruiner. Isildur tog den! Detta är i sanning en nyhet!

08-24-2003, 07:42 AM
Hi all! I'm quite sure that this last quote could be Boromir in the council of Elrond. I don't have English edition of the books but loose translate about the quote could be:

So that was what happened to the ring! interrupted Boromir. If this tale have ever been told in south it have been forgotten long ago. I have heard about a great ring which is his whose name we don't utter but we believed that the ring had got lost when his first realm came crashing down. Isildur took it! What a news!

Well...very loose translation indeed but maybe you understood my point.
Am I right?

Eärendil
08-26-2003, 01:34 AM
Well, the idea with the thread is to post a quote in any of these languages: Swedish, Danish, Norweigan or Icelandic, as they come from the same "language family". It´s not called "Western Scandinavian..." for nothing.
I personally do not mind a quote in Finnish, although I won´t be able to understand a thing...*smiles*
Oh well, I will let Finnish in and rename the thread.
