here you can post quotes from LOTR. it's a bit easier cause i haven't read the hobbit or the other ones. whoever gets it right keeps going. i'll start.

"I don't keep water in my pockets"

who said it, to whom did they say it, and (for a bonus point)where were they?

hobbitlass
10-15-2002, 04:28 AM
Frodo said it to Merry Sam and Pippin. They were at *oh dear I forgot, runs to grab book* the beginning of the travel. I think they were still in the Shire...*still flipping pages* okay I found it. Merry was not there. they Had just started traveling and where still in the Shire.

I believe Merry says it to Pippin in Minas Tirith after Theoden died and he got stabbed by the Morgul King and was greviously injured, therefore talking nonsense to Pippin when he found him. Merry had taken a wrong turn and was wandering aimlessly.

yes, LePetit, but where and to whom?

Aramacil
11-20-2002, 07:57 AM
'How long is that going to take us?'asked Frodo.
'I cannot say,' answered Gandalf. 'It depends on many chances. But going straight, without mishap or losing our way, we shall take three or four marches, I expect. It cannot be less than forty miles from West-door to East-gate in a direct line, and the road may wind much.'

After only a brief rest they started on their way again. All were eager to get the journey over as quickly as possible, and were willing, tired as they were, to go on marching still for several hours. Gandalf walked in front as before. In his left hand he held up his glimmering staff, the light of which just showed the ground before his feet; in his right he held his sword Glamdring.

Who? -> Frodo
Where? -> The entrance of Moria
To whom? -> to Gandalf
