Oh! I think I know this! But I'm not sure which instance it happened in. It was either Turin, with the people of Brethil, who found Nienor after Glaurung cast the spell on her. Or, before that, she was found and then lost by Mablung, so he could have said it.

if not gangrel, that may be Feanor to Fingon,

yet that can't be Frodo to Gollum, for this is Silmarillion thread. Are you sure it is? ;)

I go now to my long rest in the timeless halls beyond the seas and the Mountains of Aman. It will be long ere I am seen among the Noldor again; and it may be that we shall not meet a second time in death or life, for the fates of our kindred are apart. Farewell!

If Manwe and Varda themselves deny the fulfillment of an oath to which we named them in witness, is it not made void?

Maedhros? I'll have to look that one up though. That was just off the top of my head.

oh and for a second guess, even though it sounds stupid since in the quote the word "we" is used, Eonwe?

Is it Theoden, answering to the Rider from Gondor carrying the Red Arrow?
It is a good quote, but not one from the Sil. We better bear that in mind.

Heen-1
06-01-2002, 03:47 PM
ahhh no its not theoden, and i wasnt paying attention so....ill tell you that its from the Unfinished Tales.

Who made them our spokesmen to deal with him

Daniel Telcontar
06-08-2002, 02:33 PM
It was one of feanor's sons, speaking to Galdriel or Finrod, I think, when he heard about Thingol forbidding the Noldorne in his Kingdom.

I don't have the Sil on me smilies/mad.gif

Maédhros

Caranthir the dark.
But Caranthir, who loved not the sons of Finarfin, and was the harshest of the brothers and the most quick to anger, cried aloud: 'Yea more! Let not the sons of Finarfin run hither and thither with their tales to this Dark Elf in his caves! Who made them our spokesmen to deal with him? And though they be come indeed to Beleriand, let them not so swiftly forget that their father is a lord of the Noldor, though their mother be of other kin.'

Daniel Telcontar

Since no one else posts here, I take it that it is my turn. Who said:
Where are Haldad my father, and Haldar my brother? If the king of Doriath fears a friendship between Haleth and those who have devoured her kin, then the thoughts of the Eldar is strange to Men."

Should be easy with the name references.

Eärendil

I would guess Haleth..

Well, I think the deadline has passed. So I will post a quote:
Get thee gone and take thy due place!

Joy

Daniel, to answer your quote, it is Fëanor to Fingolfin, his half-brother.

Daniel Telcontar
06-24-2002, 01:05 PM
You are right, Joy, and I soubt you had much trouble guessing it. But feel free to post a quote.

Joy
06-24-2002, 03:11 PM
So you forsake your father and his kin, ill-gotten son! Here shall you fail of all your hopes, and here may you yet die the same death as I!

Salix, sounds like Melkor to Fëanor.

Salix
06-24-2002, 05:25 PM
Nope, nowhere near. Well, one of the people is related in some way to one of the people in the quote.

merlilot
06-24-2002, 07:48 PM
could it be Sauron as Annatar to the Numenoreans?

Salix
06-24-2002, 07:55 PM
Nope, you're not getting very near.

Daniel Telcontar
06-25-2002, 07:21 AM
Could it be Morgoth to Hurin?

Or Sauron to Gorlim, one of Barahir's
followers?

Salix
06-25-2002, 10:11 PM
Neither, and since i wont be on to tell the answer, i'll just have to post it now.

It was Turin to Glaurang i think, and someone else should post a quote.

Daniel Telcontar
06-26-2002, 03:51 AM
Now I remember. I even reread it yesterday, and it is where Glaurung says he respects valor so much, that he will give Turin his freedom. If only Turin knew how deceiving Glaurung was.

New quote: If you wish to move north, you shall have the protection and friendship of the Eldar, and free land to own.

Sauron to Ar-Pharazôn, when telling him that he should attack Valinor and receive everlasting life?

Somebody to Thingol? He always did have that 'take what you want' attitude.
