Gandalf said it in Moria, in Khazad-Dūm, just before having a long awaited pipe.

Re: new quotation
I recognize that one! It is Gandalf chastising Gimli, Aragorn, Legolas and Hama at the door of Meduseld. They were arguing with Hama about leaving their weapons at the door before they could enter to see Theoden.

Re: new quotation
Landroval was the brother of Gwaihir, but I don't know who was largest of the two. In the part where it describes how the two rescued Sam and Frodo at Mount Doom, it seems to say that Landroval is the Greatest of the Eagles of the North. But after reading it a few times, I think it is Gwaihir that JRRT was referring to.

Kingsfoil, thought Ioreth, smelt like the roses of Imloth Melui did when she was a girl (and not even the king could ask for better, or something like that).

Re: new quotation
Hmm.... by Imroth I guess you mean Ioreth, who was from Lossarnach. Forlong was killed on the Pelennor Fields (on the 15th and Ides of March). Since her lord was gone, and his lord (Denethor) was also gone, Imrahil (who was a kinsman of Denethor and was give rule of the city and state) became her prince until a new ruler of Lossarnach could be named.

Re: new quotation
Yes, yes, pardon the typo; of course it was witted as Ioreth.
The answer was superlative, inasmuch as the Lay of Pelennor Fields named no heir of Forlong the fat.

Re: Definitions
I missed this question in the earlier excitement. Sorry. I assume that "rarum" is sort for "burarum," a brief Entish expression for orcs. Inasmuch as "rarum" is even hastier than "burarum," it sounds like something Quickbeam might say.

rarum
It was Fangorn that used the words burįrum and rįrum, but Im sure other ents must have muttered these syllables. burįrum is used for orc, but the root rįrum was clarified by Treebeard to be hewing (of trees)..more specifically wanton hewing without purpose. Thus, his word for orcs translates something like senseless tree destroyers.
Ive looked in other internet and printed sources for a better description of this word, but havent been able to find a discussion of it. If anyone knows of one, please post it here.
Your turn galpsi. I think I need to quit for the evening. My questions are getting cryptic.
