I haven't seen anyone say anything bad about dragons in ages, and I do look out for things about dragons. As you can see from my name, I'm hardly going to hate dragons am I? I love them!
Is this at all Tolkien related though?

Um, well, it is now! Smaug wasn't all that evil. Stupid whatshisname the archer went and.... actually, I better not say cuase dragoneyes hasn't read the hobbit yet.
You do get really ugly pics of dragons, but that's just offencive to them! I think you do get really ugly evil ones though and I don't like them. That's the only acception to when people can say nasty things bout dragons!

poor Dragoneyes - that sucks smilies/frown.gif
Go read it! It is very quick reading, and that little bit of knowledge won't ruin the book - It's not a big surprise really.
***random dragon rant ahead***
Dragon's have nasty breath, are very self-centered, eat people, hoard treasure they can never even spend, and, as my dear Grandma would say, they are "too big for their britches". So there. smilies/biggrin.gif

I agree-just because they kill or maim everything they see, doesn't mean they should be shunned.
No, wait a minute...

The trouble is you only hear about the ones who kill and maim. Yet again, it's misrepresentation on the behalf of the media.

Its not like they go out thinking "today I am going to kill someone, just for the heck of it". lions and Tigers kill people if they see them, but still there are loads of "save the tigers" campaigns.

So ,the Elanor,do you fancy going to the streets of Dale to campaign for Dragons? I'm sure that the Dwarves would wholeheartedly supoort our campaign.

Misrepresentation by the media?? smilies/biggrin.gif
I like that, that's funny! Maybe these dragons just need better agents. Or maybe they should stop killing, and hoarding, and burning - destroyers and usurpers!

You girls, I'm seriously blowing milk out my nose this thread is so funny! Save the Dragons! smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif Are you really comparing a tiger to a dragon? Perhaps you'd like to compare a small black widow to Shelob? Perhaps a pirahna to the Watcher in the Water?

But does he mean Middel Earth dragons, or real dragons?
In Middle Earth dragons are generally not bad, just out for themselves.
In ancient Europe dragons were a great honor to kill
And in Asia dragons a venerated.

You can compare a dragon to a tiger because the terror of a dragon in middle-earth is equal to that of a tiger in real life.

SAVE THE DRAGONS!!!!! smilies/biggrin.gif Even when they are being all flame-like and eating people I think they're cool. The people probably deserved to get eaten anyway smilies/wink.gif j/k
And all you dragon bashers out there, get your little selves off this thread, it's for dragon lovers only. smilies/evil.gif
Anyone want to know a site with some nice dragon pics on it, go to Tarnished Images (http://www.tarnishedimages.com). I got my pic for this site there (even though you can't see it here for some reason....curse the red x's!) and there're some other nice ones there. Mine's Inferno. But I also like Maelstrom a lot.

Dragon basher? I'm insulted! smilies/biggrin.gif
It's just that Tolkien very clearly made his dragons bad guys. What's next, Save the Balrogs, they're cuddly, cute, and are our friends? smilies/wink.gif
Now, the Earthsea dragons are good guys, more or less. I practically burst into spontaneous cheering when Kalessin flame-broiled Aspen and his evil cronies. Go you good thing! (If you haven't read the Earthsea books, DO!!!)

I will have to read those books, my dad has thoroughly recommended them as well.
And, it may be just me, but I like dragons when they're the bad guys just as much as when they are the good guys. It's just the principle of the thing, ya know? As long as they're flaming something then I'm happy! smilies/biggrin.gif

Diamond18, for shame. How can you equate dragons with balrogs? Would Durin's Bane have started a chain of charity toy shops? Would it have offered hypnotherapy to amnesiac Eldar? As we can see from HoME XXXVIII (Myths Rewritten) Glaurung did both of these things. And what of Smaug the Golden? Murdered unjustly by a footpad while simply trying to reclaim his property from thieves. Only Dwarves could take an innocent hostile takeover as an excuse for brigandage; and only a morally reprehensible people like the Men of Dale would so opportunistically exploit that situation to stage a mugging. Smaug was one of the main donors to the South Mordor Distressed Gentleorcs Fund, which collapsed at the end of the Third Age without his contributions to support it. Dragons get too bad a press, and it was high time somebody started to stand up to the naysayers.
