Romance in middle-earth. What do you think romance is in middle earth? Does it actually exist (ok it does as we saw on the LOTR movie). But what do you think they do on dates. A romantic moonlight dinner? Or maybe some strange hobbit thing! Do you think they call it romance in middle earth? And imagine kissing a beard-headed dwarf, ewww. I wouldn’t want to be doing that soon smilies/smile.gif!

They stand in the moonlight and pledge their immortality to each other. I think thats about it.
God knows what those elves get up to in their forests, though.
Oh, and holding hands. Galadriel and Celeborn held hands. But that may just have been for show. Probably making Aragorn gloomy cos Arwen's holed up in the Weed Resort while Cel and Gal can prance around all lovey-dovey.

Maybe as an extreme sign of love and affection, the hobbits wash each others feet.

blow each other smoke hearts. Gandalf and Bilbo were too shy to do it in front of the cameras, but it should have been a heart, then Gandalf blows a smoke arrow through it.

Romance in Middle-Earth would go something like this:
"I pledge my everlasting love to you!"
"I pledge my sword to you!"
"... your sword?"
"Well... yeah. What's wrong with that?"
"I pledge love and you pledge... a sword? Doesn't that seem a bit lopsided?"
"Yeah, but I can't expect you to pledge anything more than love because you don't really have anything better."
"... I take back my pledge."
"You can't do that!"
"Watch me!"
*He kisses her*
"... I pledge my love to you again!"
"Do we have to go through this again?"

Boromir: *nabs the ring*
Later...
Boromir: say, Aragorn... you know Arwen doesn't really love you, right?
After much teariness...
Boromir: you know, someone can heal the emptiness in your heart... someone very close... also someone who wants to get their filthy mits on the throne of Gondor...
*produces the Ring* what do you say, Aragorn?
Aragorn and Boromir marry and rule Gondor together forever more.

Legolas's idea of love:
Elf Maiden: "Legolas, your eyes enchant me, your face is so fair..."
Legolas: [looks over shoulder into mirror]"shutup baby, I know it"
One Thing that Legolas would say to himself: "I'm ugly."
YOU KNOW YOU LOVE LEGOLAS!!!

*giggles* I liked that last one, Meela.
Some Random Girl on the Shore of Anduin Near the Mouths: "Ooh, look! A MAN! And he's a HANDSOME man!"
Her Sister: "Where?"
SRGotSoANtM: "There! In that boat!"
(They catch Boromir's boat)
HS: "Um... he's a DEAD man."
SRGotSoANtM: "Wouldn't you know it? All the good ones DIE!"

Rohan Man: "I love you with all my heart and will never leave your side, my love."
Gondor Woman: "Really?"
RM: "Truly! Wild horses couldn't drag me away!"
Gondor Woman: "Wanna test that theory?"

I think your wrong, ill probably get kicked off the board for saying this but i dont think hobbits have feet feddishes or anything, i think they are like midger humanoid versions of rabbits, i mean look how many kids they have, jeeze, they have more then most white trailer trash (no offense to you if there are any on the board, unless its Faye Took, lol)
Niluial

Well... I supose you are right, in a way. They do have lots of children! But the hobbits do. I said middle-earth romance, not hobbit-romance smilies/smile.gif! The elves dont have that many children and we have seen romance in LOTR-TT

Elf to another elf- "I want to spend the next few thousand years with you."
If an elf makes the wrong choice on a mate, boy are they screwed!

Yeah, all that stuff. But there's too much of the "obvious" romance in the Two Towers... Too much for LOTR anyway.
Or, at least, when Tolkien wrote it I think he meant the romance to be blended in with the story so that it didn't stand out as much. That's the only bad thing about the Two Towers.

Yeah, I know they are. That's why it takes them thousands of years to choose. So that if they make the wrong choice they won't have to live with it as long(or well I dunno I guess this only goes for half-elves, they do die of old age...)

From what I understand is that all romance and relationships in middle earth rely on looks, mostly.
I mean, faramir and Eowen don't even date and he says something like,
"You're beautiful and I love you, marry me."
After knowing her for what, a couple weeks. What happened to courting and dating and those heat of the moment things that you don't want people to know about. If you ask me that's pretty unreal. Tolkien must have really left out the romantic parts of the book.
And what about men? Don't they have urges and needs and all that? But I guess they're too noble to show it. Everything is very black and white, either he's evil, perfect or very confused(gollum/smeagol)
Come to think of it, the story itself is pretty unreal, despite all the details, the lauguages and maps and culture and stuff, you forgot something Tolkien!
Oh well, it's still the best movie and book and I love them all!

Just a question: there is no divorce in ME, right? Because that could cause some interesting scenes...
Arwen: Aragorn, I don't like all this mortality business of yours. I'm leaving you for Glorfindel... smilies/rolleyes.gif

Hmm I never really thought of that, divorce in middle-earth? Hmm that’s kind of weird! Two elves getting divorced. Do you think that sounds weird or is it just me being weird?... smilies/wink.gif
