Yes, this is another diary. Gandalf's. And I know there's Pippin's diary and Merry's diary, but I like diaries, so, please contribute to Gandalf's Diary!

"Today is Bilbo's birthday party. And of course, being the wonderful wizard that I am, I must come and set off fireworks for the little ones. Quite boring. I have a suspicion that this ring Bilbo loves might actually be the One Ring. Personally, I could care less about the whole matter, but, being the thoughtful and yet stupid Wizard I am, I must investigate and *sigh* save Middle Earth perhaps. Do I get a vacation? Most certainly not! No no! Wizards are expected to do everything! Make fireworks, be knowledgeable of the past, and save Middle-Earth! And what do these miserable little hobbits do? Sit on their fat rump and smoke pipe-weed! Ahh, to be 3 feet tall...

Gandalf the Investigator, not Gandalf the Grey, should my name be! Here I am, riding off, figuring out the riddles of the One Ring for those stupid hobbits again. Stupid little people and their jewelry! To Mount Doom with them all!

It has been many months since my last visit to the Shire. So, I am going back. Of course to see if this ring really is the One Ring. Sauron just had to go and make my life complicated, didn't he?

Found out indeed this Ring really is the One Ring. Has the fire letters and all. If I were in my right mind, I'd tell good ole Frodo to just throw it in the River. Isildur did, and it worked for a couple hundred years, no? But no, I have to have it destroyed. So, to Rivendell it goes. Maybe Elrond will take it there. He's lived long enough. It gets quite sickening when you see a couple thousand year old man look like he's bloody thirty years old. Why couldn't I be an elf?

I found this entry off a site so this is not mine:

Went to Saruman for advice about Ring but he had become evil. Nobody tells me anything. Apparently there was a memo. Radagast the Brown probably stealing paper out of my inbox again.

I thought that was hilarious.

Well, obviously this didn't catch on. Oh well!

I think it's good, but I also think that more people will be interested in it if it's going by the books and not the movie.. ^_^ At least the long-time Tolkien fans will probably be.. uuuhh... something like that anyway..
the "apperantly Saruman has turned evil"-thing is from "Dude, where's my ring, right? It is on the fan fiction section on this page.. smilies/smile.gif

EDIT: I think I sounded mean up there.. Sorry if I did - it wasn't my intention to.

Actually, the quote you mention is from Cassandra Claire's Very Secret Diaries - the person who started the entire diary thing in the first place. Just in case you wanted to know it's not from Dude, where's my ring, even if they used the idea.

22nd September, TA 3018. This has been the week from hell: my boss is being completely counter-productive, and I suspect that he's been head-hunted by the competition. Fortunately Saruman is an idiot, and decided that the best place to imprison me was up on the roof where any of Radagast's feathered friends could find me. Even so, it's a good thing that Gwaihir has his head in the game or we'd all be sunk. Rohan may be a backward place, but at least it's relatively friendly and furnished with decent beer.

The Rohirrim are getting very uppity lately, particularly young Grima. His father was an oily little tick as well, but somehow the son has managed to get Theoden's ear. Goodness only knows how: Theoden was always such a bright lad. Anyway, it took me two attempts just to get a horse out of the man, and I had to catch it myself. Clearly I'll have to do something about the situation in Edoras ASAP; yet another item on my already overstuffed 'to do' list (as if 'unite the free peoples and defeat Sauron' wasn't enough of a brief already).

I've managed to put one over on Theoden, which will teach him to offer back-chat to his elders. I know he's slipping, since he offered me any horse just to get rid of me. Naturally I picked the fastest stallion in his entire kingdom, which should help me win a few bets along the way. Saruman pinched all of my pipeweed, so I'll need some spare cash for some home comforts along the way. Even so, I suspect that I shan't be able to get my brand until I get back to the shire; I'm starting to get that craving already, so I'd best be quick.

Hopefully Frodo took the advice in my letter. He was always fairly intelligent for a Hobbit, although he will insist on gallivanting around with his most foolish relatives. My real fear is that he's spent all his time dithering and saying 'goodbye' to every stock and stone in the Shire. Whilst some people might think that I gave him more than enough warning, those people have never tried to get a Baggins to do something in a hurry. I can still remember old Thorin Oakenshield's face as we waited for Master Bilbo outside that inn: I dare say he hadn't worn such a thunderous frown since Azanulbizar!
