I probably am going to be a Hobbit or a Ringwraith would be cool! I was at a lotr freak party with my friends and we dressed up as our RPG characters and I wanted to have hairy hobbit feet! So I got some brown yarn out and glued it on my feet with a glue stick. IT WAS SO FUn and funny! Try it, it works!

I'm a Nazgul all the way! My dad has an old acedemic robe that I can use, I am making a hood... Think of all the little kids I can scare... smilies/evil.gif

MUWAHAHAHA! That would be fun going around and chaseing kids yelling "GIVE UP THE HALF-LING SHE ELF!"

I am going to be a Ringwraith for Halloween, of course. Somewhere in a box (it has been around 10 months since I moved here and we still haven't unpacked everything) lurks the old ragged, tattered black robes from my old Scream costume. I'm pretty sure it comes with a hood so I will use that.
Perhaps I can wear all black underneath; last time I checked, those robes were pretty thin-looking. Perhaps I can paint my face black, make the hood bigger, and jump in a mud puddle to give the costume the rugged and muddy effect all of the wraith-girls swoon for. Maybe I can go so far as to convince my mother to let me borrow a horse.
It WOULD be quite fun to gallop about, brandishing a plastic sword, and hissing, "Shire? Baggins?" in a creepy voice. smilies/biggrin.gif

hey Faye! I'm gonna be an elf, if I can find fake ears. I went to the Rennesiance (sp?) fair yesterday and got a mini-crown called a circlet. It's an elven-drop. (no, really! that's what its called!) and I'm wearing it for Halloween. Maybe I'll be an elven archer.... how do I look in green? *holds up a loose forest-green tunic shirt for Faye to see*

how much did it cost you to make your dresses? ($ US) I just asked my mom, but unfortunately, they "haven't discussed it" yet. smilies/rolleyes.gif
But anyhoo. . .
To those who want pointy ears, here's (http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/Article/Ears.htm) a link to a site that I have given many times; it gives step-by-step instructions on how to make your own pointy gelatin ears.
WARNING
These instructions include making a plaster cast of your ears before you make the actual gelatin ear and this could/probably will get messy!

Kewl!!! I'll need to use that! Yeah, I was one of the people who attended the Lord of the Rings freak party with Faye! I wore an elegant dress type elf thing. I'm using that pattern too, Nev. Except I hope to use the one on the left. But the instructions say to use the fabric Jacquard, which is expensive. The only cheap Jacquard I found was turquoise. Would turqoise be weird for an elven costume? (It's pretty bright.) Please let me know.

I am going to be Maia, the half dwarf half elf chick! yay! i have (and i've stated this many a time) a red velvet cloak with The Gates of Moria beaded on the back wich i sewed myself, but i spent so much time on it that i don't even have a dress!! smilies/frown.gif
turquoise for an elf has both good and bad qualities. turquoise is a very elf-like color but i don't know if you'll want to be running around in a turquoise dress alll halloween smilies/biggrin.gif.

I actually have an elf costume my mommy made me - she's a sewing genius! It was originally intended to be a Juliet costume, but it's white, with big sleeves and gold trim. It has a maroon velvet bodice and a cape of maroon "velvet" (the real thing's expensive!) with roses embossed on it.

I found ears! Okay, y'all: just go to a costume store and look for "little space ears". They look like Elf ears. And pick up stuff to glue them on with, of course, and maybe some sort of makeup to change them to match your skin color. But they look really real! I'll have to take a picture and somehow put it in here to show you guys after I'm done with Halloween!

I need some suggestions! I want to be Gollum for Halloween! smilies/biggrin.gif . I'm thinking i'll dress in all black, but i'll paint my face and hands silver (I found some cool silver cream for that!) to make it complete, i'll get a ring, and obsess over it! What do you think? I'm not sure about the silver face and hands... would they seem Gollum-like? Give me some suggestions if you have them! Thanks!
Wow! I hope I run into some ringwraiths! I could have some real fun taunting them with my ring.... smilies/rolleyes.gif heehee! Haloween is going to be great!

Question: is there somewhere that any of you know of (I live in New York) where I might find Nenya for a reasonable price? Because I don't have $190 to spend on a ring...well: yes I do, but I'm not willing to spend it because I would have no money after buying it...
I was thinking more...along the lines of $50 or cheaper? I've been looking in every costume store I pass (dragging my mom in too), but no one has any rings (strangely enough)...
Okay: I have to officially say: costume stores scare me to death. All the robots of monsters moving around every turn...I spend the whole time clinging to whatever is nearest in fear...

I was thinking of going as a Hobbit, maybe Sam, even though I'm a girl and I'm 5'5" tall. I've got this old hand-me-down vest that looks kinda like Sam's, only I lost it- like I do with a lot of stuff. smilies/frown.gif smilies/redface.gif
I sorta had second thoughts about going as a hobbit... You see, up here in Pennsylvania we're starting to have cold evenings, which means I might have very blue feet if I go barefoot! But after seeing how to make hobbit-feet in the site Nev provided (thank you soooo much!!), I might be going out as a halfling.

I'm so happy! On Saturday, I found the perfect fabric. It's light green and cream colored with a dark forest green tie around the waist. Then I'm going to make my own headress with wire and buy hair extensions. The only problem I have is the ears. I might not be able to find the supplies to make them, and then if I do, I will probably end up making them incorrectly. I might have to buy ears, which is unfortunate because the ears at the costume shop look like hobbit ears (they're big).
I do have a question. WHAT DO I DO WITH SHOES? No one seems to know what type of shoes the elves wear. And I don't think I should go barefoot. I'm going to a dance and I don't want to get stepped on!

I dressed up for work tonight. The Symphony was doing children's Halloween concert & I decided to dress as Arwen. A lot of people didn't know who I was, but they got that I was an elf. One little boy knew who I was though. He came up and was like, "Hey, I know who you are... you are the girl from Lord of the Rings!!!! I love that movie. I saw it ten times!!!!" I got most of my stuff at second-hand stores. Found some great boots and a blue velvet dress that was short enough to be worn as a tunic. So I went as myself, Raefindel, the red-headed elf.
Unfortunately, everyone kept asking if I was Robin Hood- go figure!

I didn't dress up as anything ME for Hallowe'en this year (I went to my friend's Hallowe'en party and then trick-or-treating dressed as Emily Strange), but this is dressing up as something from Middle-earth so it stills counts I guess...
At our village festival this year, eight of my friends and I entered the fancy dress competition as The Fellowship of the Ring and won! smilies/biggrin.gif I got to be Aragorn, which was pretty cool (even if I did have to have a semi-tache drawn on with eye pencil!). I also know somebody who went to a fancy dress party as an Ent once...probably one of the strangest costume ideas I've ever heard of, but still quite cool

Hey Nevfenial! (from pg 1) My friend wore the exact costume! Of course, she's in Canada, so I never got to see it.

Halloween was wicked fun for me last year! I went with my 11-year old bro, who was Legolas, and my best friend in Maine, and her li'l bros and cousins. I was Merry, my friend was Frodo, and her cousin our age was Pippin. My friend's brother (who is 8) was a ringwraith, and we had the best costumes! We all had green cloaks and my friend's cousin took the soles out of her shoes and put them on her feet, then put skin-colored tights over them, they looked really realistic! Of course, no one knew who we were, but the ringwraith kept running around saying, "Hobbits! Three hobbits!" and instead of trick-or-treat, he said, "Shhhhire. Bagginssss!" Yeah, Halloween rules smilies/smile.gif

I'm currently debating over my Halloween costume for this year because it's my half-term on October 31st this year so my friend is having a party again. At the moment I really like the Jack Sparrow costume I've started to put together, but if I get my hair cut short before Halloween I'm going to go as Tom Bombadil. Still, whatever I end up with at least I don't have to buy/make another costume for my 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' school leaving party in May...

Well, right now I am trying to get the white dress of Eowyn made. But I have yet to start on the principal sewing, though I do have a pattern. Yea! Halloween! smilies/biggrin.gif I second that! A scary elf lady? smilies/biggrin.gif
I will go as my standard "adult ghost" I have several white king size topsheets, a white robe, long gloves etc. I wear the sheets over the head with just little eye holes...no plastc masks please! On windy halloweens, the effect is great, with a big, white, billowing ghost moving amongst the almost scared kiddies, pumping up the "atmosphere"! I hope it's a cool, windy night...with a big full moon. I haven't seen a LoTR outfit yet, maybe this will be the year to bring a squeal of joy to my lips! smilies/smile.gif
I was a Nazgul last year
& if Village Photos would work, I could prolly show la picture.... but it is refusing to load : p I have no clue what I'll be this year. Maybe an evil squeegee. squeegee squeegee. (wow that was random. sorry, i'm not feeling very well today so I'm bound to make squeegee noises... or something...

It would be absolutely cool to be Galadriel for Halloween, but, seeing as how I'm relatively short and have dark red-brown hair and look like an orc when I try to wear a dress, well, I'm not sure anyone would figure it out! (Well, I'm prettier than an orc, but definitely not elvish!). I'd be a hobbit, but my feet have a nasty habit of sweating in cold weather and it would be messy with fake feet. (They already grow their own hair, if that helps...heh heh!) I like painting these awful pictures of myself, because now everyone thinks I am a short orc with hairy feet! I'd love to be Pippin, but I don't think anyone around here would know who he is! Well, ideally, I'd be Nerdanel, estranged wife of Fëanor, but then they REALLY wouldn't know who I was! smilies/wink.gif My husband can pass for Aragorn or Boromir, though, depending on the state of his facial hair and general well-being. Ideally I'd have him be Merry to my Pippin or Frodo to my Sam, but he is the least hobbitish thing walking around here! Perhaps I could be Pippin to his Boromir...we do have the Horn of Gondor (at least an approximation!) smilies/wink.gif
Cheers,
Lyta
P.S. NazI believe I have visited your Nazgul picture site before, and you make a great Nazgul! Do you have a black horse? It is so rural here, that I half expect to see any Nazgul actually riding the family horse for trick-or-treating. (I wouldn't be surprised at all if that happened (except for them knowing what a Nazgul is and all!))

I'm going as Éowyn this year. I don't really have the time or money to make a good dress, so I think I'll go in her soldier disguise. Probably I'll wear thick black stockings and make a tunic out of a really long white shirt or a sheet, then wear some sort of dark green shirt underneath. I know it doesn't really seem like much of a realistic fighting outfit, but maybe I'll find some inexpensive plastic armor pieces somewhere. A friend of mine has agreed to let me borrow a plastic sword of his (don't ask me why he'd bring it with him to college smilies/tongue.gif), and I already have longish blonde hair, so I'll crimp or wave it somehow. I'm trying to convince my friends to go LotR this year as well; so far I have an Arwen and a Gandalf, and I'm working on finding an elf and a ranger (and maybe a Faramir smilies/wink.gif) to accompany us. Great fun smilies/biggrin.gif

I am being an elf. Go back to pg. 1 and look at that picture for and idea of what my costume will look like, I got that pattern too! I am modifying it slightly, but it will be almost the same. Of course, 'Halloween costume' is my excuse to get my mom to buy the materials, I have very little money. You all know I'm going to wear it more! For pointed ears I got some rubber cement to glue my ears into points.

Its not LOTR related, but I probably wont be going out. Its not really my thing, but I might just float round the house being Samara and giving out copies of my tape to people...
(I really am going to hand out copies of the tape, you know. I can do that. I have seen the video. I got the phone call.)
EDIT: Spelling...

smilies/biggrin.gif Anything but Arwen, I would love to see that! I would soooo watch the tape, too... I love Samara smilies/smile.gif
I'm not going out this year, either... but I am going to a Halloween party, so I'm wearing my elf costume there. It's the same one in the picture from pg 1. With the big sleeves... *squee* It's almost done. I just have to sew the front and back together and do the sleeves. And I need ears... I think I'm going to buy some. I saw some "elf ears" at a Halloween store last year. Stupid me...I should have bought them.

*sigh* Halloween is nearly here...and I don't know what I could be! Leaning towards Nazgul...but leaning towards hobbit as well! Arrgh! *bangs head against wall* Ah, well...to Wal-Mart!
I was a Ringwraith last year. I looked really cool too, even though I made the costume myself. LOl I was all in black and stuff my mom was worried I would get killed! But anyway...
This year my mom is making me that white dress Eowyn wore in TTT. It's going to be so awesome! Lol I went from all black to all white! Now if I could just get my mom to start on it! smilies/rolleyes.gif

Try going to Wal-Mart and rummaging around in the Halloween costumes section. It's got a lot of great stuff. I bought a long velvet, Arwen-ish cape (except it's black) with the same type of hood and all, for about $25 dollars, and a pair of long, black velvety gloves for about $4, that were absolutely gorgeous. I even bought a pattern there for my armored shieldmaiden vest, and I'm going to go back for the material. It's this beautiful dark purple panne, absolutely gorgeous. Wal-Mart is the answer to all of your problems!

Last year I was Arwen. I wore a white dress with silver leaves and flowers that I got for about $10 (US) at Saint Vincent De Paul. It wasn't exactly like the movie, but very Arwen-esque. My little brother (who looks very much like Elijah Wood) was Frodo last year. Anyway, I'm going to be Éowyn this year, but I haven't started my costume yet, so I'd best get a move on!

Brinniel haven't you seen the Legolas costume. That thing is even scarier
Ohh, yeah. That wig is kinda creepy, too. smilies/rolleyes.gif
But what I find really scary are the fake Gimli and Gandalf beards for children. smilies/eek.gif

Amarantha_Daisy, I'm actually quite worried now. I watched THE tape two days ago, and today, I went to the stables and first a girl got bucked off by the slow ploddy horse...which I then tried to ride, and it screamed and threw me...then all the other horses in the school acted weird...then the horses started kicking the doors when I tried to go put one in the field...whoops...

Anything but Arwen, you should probley make a copy of the tape, just to make sure. smilies/wink.gif
I've always wanted to make a Nazgul costume. That would be cool... And I could run around downtown in it, shrieking and calling random people "she-elf"... Mua ha ha ha! ...Yes. I think I'll make one after I finish my dress...

My little brother has requested that I ask you guys for suggestions on what he should be for Halloween this year. I think he's open to anything but Frodo (he was that last year) and any female characters. Ideas, anyone?
Amarantha_Daisy

Hmmm... Well, Orominuialwen, as I was saying before, a Nazgul costume would be pretty cool... Or he could be Gollum smilies/biggrin.gif That would be cool... Acting like Gollum is fun smilies/wink.gif
There are plenty of great male characters to be. It's the female characters that's a rarity. We girls have to settle with Arwen, Eowyn, or a random elf...

Orominuialwen how old is your brother? Is he really little or kind of old?
He could be either Aragorn in the ranger outfit or the Gondorian outfit. Or he could be Faramir. Those would be really fun costumes.
Lyta: me Nazgul costume & no I have no black horse... so maybes it wasn't me... - -;; I dunno! It's past 11 pm!

Hmmm.... I have yet to figure out what I am going to be. I want to dress up as Eowyn, esp in that White dress she wears in TT, one problem... there's no pattern for it anywhere that I've seen and I'm having my aunt make my costume (seeing as how many of the store costumes look really fake and my mother and me have no talent for sewing)... It's depressing really... I would love to be Eowyn but like I said... no patterns (at least that I've seen) anywhere. It'd be fun to dress up as a hobbit but I think I'll have to settle on an elf seeing as how that's probably the easiest costume there would be to make...unless any of you have a good pattern for an Eowyn dress or ideas and would care to share....

I need a nazgul costume for my thing. I plan on taking the string off of my dad's weedeater and going around with it. I'm puttitng gas in it so can turn it on. If people don't have candy then I'm going to act like I'm using it on their Lawn. A ringwraith with a weedeater, So unique.

My son is going as Aragorn. We bought him a dark curly wig, a leaf broach pin which we spraypainted to look similar to the leaves of Lorien. We got a black leather vest at a second hand store and black gloves with the fingers cut out of. He will have black pants, a black belt to hold his sword and of course a cloak. I am still looking at the second hand stores for a costume ring, similar to Aragorn's, but otherwise we are done. I think he is gonna look awesome!!!!

I've got a Halloween dance coming up, and I really want to dress up as something elf-like. Does anyone know of any British shops that sell elf-like dresses at a reasonable price? Because I am absolutley lousy at sewing and I don't know anyone else who could help me make a dress.
Any ideas??

Thanks for the ideas everyone! Gorwingel, my brother is kind of little. Hmm, he might make a pretty good Faramir- I'll have to ask him; or maybe one of the Nazgul...
Naz, that costum was SO cool! smilies/cool.gif
Enorëiel, they have lots of patterns here (http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/). It's a great site for LotR costumes.

I already have a cool farmer hat and trousers and a shirt. My dog is gonna be Grip, and I'm gonna have a hoe and make a basket of overgrown veggies to make me look smaller. Hopefully people won't think I'm a normal farmer...

My costume is going to be similiar to my icon. I also have a cloak and there will be a few other differences. I need to find a fake bow and arrow though.

I am...presently debating. I am also an abysmal..sewer? seamstress?, and that's an understatement. I have a large black hooded cloak, which just about fit me when I was 4'8ft. I am now 5'7. smilies/rolleyes.gif
I have a sort of farmer outfit, but I don't think many of the people where I live would get it. Trick or treating is very much frowned upon round here...not that that dissuades me smilies/evil.gif smilies/biggrin.gif
Aragorst, that's so cool!
I'll probably be Gandalf - borrow my Dad's grey jacket; I have a staff at least, and a hat smilies/wink.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

Hey don't feel to bad Everdawn I live in
Australia too and like you we don't celebrate halloween some kids still go trickle treating in my area though( but to be honest my father doesn't even believe in halloween so no candy no costumes no nothing for my sisters and I oh well). Maybe you could dress up anyway and just freak your family members out (Hey why don't you ask your parents to invite your cousins over then
dress like a ring wraith and scare them all night) it'd be fun he....he smilies/evil.gif
