Dumb question, but im curious... What do you think a hobbit would think of a pop tart?

Arwen Imladris
07-23-2002, 01:54 PM
Correct: it is a dumb question.

Oh well!

It is food, I think any hobbit would love it! Especially if a pipe came with it. smilies/biggrin.gif

I have no idea why I thought of it, my brother just kept bugging me about pop tarts and hobbits, and it made me think... smilies/biggrin.gif

They'd probably think it was too sweat, being not used to refined sugar. Just my two cents.

Liriodendron

I think they would laugh at them cause they are so flat and funky looking, but they'd eat it! smilies/biggrin.gif

Losthuniel

They'd poke it, sniff it, then throw it in the garbage, not thinking that iy=ts actually food (and they would be quite right)

He'd think just like me:
Hmm, looks yummy. sniff sniff Smells yummy. gobble munch crumble Tastes yummy. Hey! Its gone!!!

They might try and taste every flavor out there. Would pop tarts be good at tea time?
btw What would they think of Twinkies? I think they would use them as stucco in making their holes.

Yeah, it'd be like: Smell good? Look good? Taste good? YUM MORE! They'd probably be a little wary at first because of the appearance though.

WAIT. What would they think of popsicles?

Lathriel
02-18-2003, 01:23 PM
Tolkein always referred to himself as being like a hobbit in some respects, and since he was pretty old-fashioned he wouldn't like poptarts therefore I don't think hobbits would like them.
By the way I would love to see a hobbit with a popsicle, they would study it for so long that by the time they are done the whole popsicle is melted.
Note: where would they keep popsicles since they don't have freezers. smilies/biggrin.gif

The real question is, what wouldn't a Hobbit think of a Pop Tart and a popsicle? Honestly, I think they'd think that both were too small...

Horse-Maiden of the Shire
02-18-2003, 08:33 PM
Hmm, a popsicle? They would circle it warily to make sure it wouldn't attack them (those double popsicles look like they have legs, eh) and then they'd poke it a couple times, and finally taste it gingerly. Then they'd be all BY THE VALAR GIVE ME MORE!!!
Oh, gosh...you know what I just realized?
Hobbit+Pixie stick=madness!!!

I think it would be fun to give a hobbit a soda can just to see if they could open it.

Airehiriel

Can you imagine what it would be like the first time they drank soda? (or pop as we American Northerners call it)
Experiencing the carbonation for the first time! I'm sure that it would immediately dissolve into a burping contest when they discovered that pop can cause that!

Okay, I'll admit it: I wrote an entire novel based on a Hobbit's reactions to modern America, called "Bolco Took in Massachusetts." It was really fun to write. Check out my sig if you're interested...

OK, so perhaps I'm english, but I was thinking. What about Twiglets?

Silmiel of Imladris

Please explain what a twiglet is to the ignorant Americans here, like me. smilies/biggrin.gif

This reminds me of the childrens book. "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie." If you give a mouse a cookie he will ask for milk to wash it down. If you give the mouse milk...ect.

I think it would be fun to give a hobbit a soda can just to see if they could open it.
hahahaha!!!! that is so mean... But they would probably just put it in the wine cellar along with the wine that was "almost as old as [Bilbo]" to see if it got any better.

and yes, what IS a twiglet thingy? Are they the chocolate coated cylindrical wafer thingies? (notice that by my eloquence, I am obviously american too... smilies/frown.gif )

On twiglets:
i'm gonna quote a review i found here
Taste: These are very unusual snacks. They're shaped, textured and colored kind of like small twigs. And they taste kind of like burnt wood, or burnt popcorn, or burnt cheese. Burnt something, anyway. I wouldn't say they're awful, because they're oddly addictive, but they definitely don't taste good. They're quite crunchy.

Aroma: Smells sort of like wood, or coffee
sums it up quite well i think...well in my view, sum people love them...

EDIT: they taste a bit like marmite (vegemite?) and are crunchy and twig like (duh)

I think that if you gave a Hobbit a can of soda then you would have to give him pop rocks.

Fist the Hobbit would drink the soda and then find out how to open the Pop Rocks. What would happen then, I wonder? I love Pop Rocks, so I think that any adventureous Took would eat at leat two packets of them and then scar the living bejesus out of any other Hobbets as he is now foaming at the mouth with popping sounds and such....

yes what are Twiglets, something like Pocky?(pocky is a Japonese candy that is a wafer cookie stick dipped in chocolate)

What would a Hobbit do with that(Pocky)?

lol...I would love to see a hobbit child and a popsicle...I think the children would take more to the food than adults....ie give Pippin and Merry the sugary delicious treats. smilies/biggrin.gif

Now here's a thought.......how about a bag of microwave popcorn?

dragoneyes
12-12-2003, 05:21 PM
They'd throw the popcorn away if they got it from me because I always burn it. (And then it ends up tasting like twiglets smilies/wink.gif )

a hobbit eating pop rocks? teehee, I'd love to see that.

Or rather, open a can of soda in front of a hobbit, and drink it, and then hand him one.. As he tries to open it, snatch it from him and shake it, then stand back as he opens it.

For some reason, this has put the image of a bunch of hobbits sitting at a ball game, with the whole nights supply of corndogs in my mind...*blink*

That's mean. Although I guess so are the Pop Rocks. Just hand a Hobbit an open can of Coca cola and an open bag of Pop Rocks....

Like I told my cousin the other day Our family is sadistic!

Pop Rocks?

Nimrothiel
12-13-2003, 03:10 PM
If you're wondering what Pop Rocks are, they're a candy that is contained in packets and they look like a bunch of small pebbles, or rocks. When you put them in your mouth, they react to your saliva by fizzing and popping on your tongue. If you mix them with soda, you get a lethal combination of fizz; I wouldn't suggest doing so. Merry and Pippin would love them. smilies/evil.gif

Hobbit+Pixie Stick=madness!

Haha, that reminds me of the Breakfast Club(one of the best movies in the world)(well, at least I think so)
When the girl in the breakfast Club makes a pixy stick and cereal sandwich, oh man, it's great!

Well, I think they would like popsicles, but when they discovered they give you brain freezes sometimes, then I think they would either run around in pain yelling "AHH, WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?! IT HURTS MY HEAD SO BADLY!"
or just walk away from the popsicle boxes.

What would they think of soda pop?

Lady Snickerdoodle
12-13-2003, 06:37 PM
I LOVE POP ROCKS!
and on the matter of Twiglets, do they taste good? I mean do people actually like burnt wood?

what would they think of bubble gum? oh, they'd probably just swallow it anywhatses.

EDIT:
If you mix them with soda, you get a lethal combination of fizz; I wouldn't suggest doing so. I wonder how much trouble I'd get in by dropping some in people's champagne/sparkling cider at this New Year's Eve party... (i love crashing holiday parties, like the time when I wanted to dye the turkey blue for Thanksgiving, but didn't because I didn't have enough time to borrow/buy some)

what would a hobbit think of helium?

I mean, just pop a hole in one of those birthday balloons, and hand one to a hobbit, and tell him to drink what was inside (or rather..inhale..) what d'you think the hobbit's reaction to their newly squeakified voice would be? smilies/rolleyes.gif

Feared Half-Elf

I wouldn't say that twiglets taste good, as such. Just that they taste interesting...almost like crunchy cardboard...!

Twiglets make me sick....
I don't think they would like them if they knew they would make you sick, but if they liked the taste, they would probably eat it anyway just because of that....

Annalaliath
12-21-2003, 10:32 AM
They(twiglets) sound rather bad, I am used to burnt things 'cause for half my life that is what I ate. Mom burns things regularly.

A great way to freak out the Hobbit would to have them inhale Helium. Until they got used to it. "Merry help my voice what is happenen to my voice...." as Pippen runs in circles and then attacks us for the horrid deed.

Hmm... A Hobbit with a popsicle, pop rocks, a twinky, a soda, and a pop tart. What you'd get is a very hyper Hobbit on a sugar rush! smilies/eek.gif I can immagine a Hobbit trying to open the soda can. First, they would bang it on a table and if that didn't work, they'd stab it with a knife and then the soda would come spewing out everywhere in a sticky mess! smilies/eek.gif However, what about the matter of keeping things cold? Did Hobbits have ice boxes, perhaps? The soda would go flat in a short while without the use of iceboxes or a way to keep it cold and fizzy.

something like Pocky?(pocky is a Japonese candy that is a wafer cookie stick dipped in chocolate)

*GASP* I love Pocky! Especially the chocolate coconut ones. smilies/biggrin.gif

sam smilies/redface.gifh mr frodo, what is this thing?

frodo:i dont know sam, we better get ahold of gandalf! gimme a minute! i have him on speed dial
(20minutes later)
gandalf:frodo, this is the one pop tart, you must through it into the mouth of an extremely large man i met down the street.

frodo:no gandalf! im tired of being your patsy. get yourself another stooge.

*GASP* I love Pocky! Especially the chocolate coconut ones.

Unfortunately I can only get the Chocolate and strawberry kind. I can only get Pocky at Hastings of all places. What my town needs is an Asian food store.

Hand a Hobbit Pocky. "What's this?"

"Pocky," I'd say.

"Pocky, I don't get it are you supposed to use it for kindling?"

" No your supposed to eat it."

"Really," the Hobbit would say," I don't believe you... What are you doing?!"

Looking at the Hobbit with a stick of Pocky sticking out of my mouth. Taking it out I say, "Pocky is for eating."

" I still don't believe you."

"You know in the my culture if food is offered and refused it considered offensive."

"I don't care I'm still not eating it."

"I'm eating it."

"Okay fine!" He then eats the whole box. I take out a bag of Pop Rocks....

That, and the Breakfast Club.
My obessesion with 80's movies(including The Breakfast Club)is leeking over into my obsession with LOTR.

Helium would be funny...

Hehe, I had too much coffee.

If a pop tart appeared on a table in the Shire, I doubt the hobbits would even think of eating it, I mean, it hardly looks like food does it?

If they had tea, what would stop them having coffee?

I wonder if they had black pudding...

I know someone who liked to eat cardboard in 6th grade.

What would a hobbit think of a snow shovel? I think they would probably find it very useful, as they go barefoot all the time, and it must be a little annoying having to step through all that deep snow. Or do they stay inside all winter?

*Thinks through all the various foods that would dismay a Hobbit - at least on first glance..*

Actually, can you imagine a Hobbit with a tin can? Able to see the picture of the food on the outside, but not get into it. Then, out comes the knife...

I wonder what a hobbit would think of a Lava Lamp?

*giggles* im in two minds about it, one one hand i think they would run away and on the other i can see droves of hobbits coming from all over the shire to sit infornt of it and bask in its lavery glory.

They would slurp noodles. They would think it amusing when the end would pop up and hit them on the nose.

What would they think of television? Or the LotR movies? I can imagine it..."That's not Gandalf!" "Who the heck is that supposed to be? FRODO?!? Someone smoked too much pipeweed..."

I wonder what they would think of marshmallows?
Or garden gnomes?
Or BARNEY UNDERWEAR!!!
Ummm...sorry, I got ahead of myself there!;)
I love pop rocks, but they DO take a while to get used to!
I like Pocky too, but seeing as I live in the USA, I can only get it when my Dad goes to Japan on business. (He works for a soy sauce company. Hmmm...I wonder what they would think of soy sauce?:p )

EDIT: What would they think of thousands of crazed fans congregating together to talk about what they might like or dislike?;) Hmmm.....
