ok just wondering how do you annoy people who don't like LOTR. my big sis hates lotr so i annoy in everyway by 1. talking about lotr, 2. talking about barrowdowns and 3. everytime she does something stupid scream "Fool of a took".

also if someone threatens me i scream "Back you devils"

so what do you do?

OMG. There are so many. Of course, I don't reallt intend to annoy them at first. It just kinda ends up that way. Anyway,

1.I am always talking about the Hobbits and Elves.
2.I always wear my "one ring" to school {which for some reason does annoy people}
3.I am always talking about the movie with my LOTR loving friends
4.One time, I actually convinced this really gullible guy that my ring I got from the bookmark was the real one ring. I said that I had some family members that were friends with Elijah Wood, and he gave me the ring from the movie. AND he actually believed that my ring had powers. smilies/rolleyes.gif

Anyway, I got tons more. I just get tired of typing really fast. I may post again later.

Starting to act out the movie from the opening "I amar prestaraen" gets some annoyed glances...we do that sometimes. Or, we just pick a scene and act it all out when someone's who "hates" it is trying to talk.

Or, you can pretend to be a complete teeny-bopper and feign infatuation with Orlando Bloom/Viggo Mortensen/Billy Boyd/Elijah Wood/Dominic Mohaghan/Hugo Weaving/Ian McKellan (got some interesting looks for that one)/Ian Holm (that one too)/John Rhys-Davies (don't even go there with that one)/Sean Astin/Sean Bean/Christopher Lee (hehe). They always get annoyed when you do that...especially when you change your "infatuation" each day and start obssessing about someone knew.

Or, get into completely random Tolkien discussions in front of the person, getting into a fake argument with your friend in front of the person, and acting as if the one disagreement over the stupid Tolkien discussion will end your 8 year friendship forever.

I can think of more, I just don't feel like it...

I get everything they have of LotR and show my friends.
Make them watch the movie and listen to the CD.
Quote ramdom things.

I am constantly talking about Lord of the Rings and the Barrowdowns. That really anoys people. And quoting is a sure way to drive my little brother up the wall. It's strange because you don't expect the older siblings to anoy the younger ones. Oh well. smilies/biggrin.gif

I do a ton of stuff, but here's my weirdest:

My friends and I staked out a street corner and acted out LOTR. We did some movie stuff and some book stuff. And we made money from people who thought we were homeless bums who needed money for food. But then there were the haters - people who asked us why we didn't have lives, that sort of thing.

I do have a life - LOTR and Tolkien are big parts of it!

Eruwen
10-02-2002, 03:38 PM
OMG Elenna! They said you didn't have a life? How stupid!

Anyway, most people at my school like LOTR. But they just like the movie. Not the books or anything else about it. Some of the GIRLS even call Legolas "that blonde Elf guy". smilies/rolleyes.gif

But the people who really get annoyed but what I talk about is the people who havn't even seen the movie. They are always saying how LOTR is so stupid. Of course, my answer..."Have you read the books? Have you seen the movie? NO!!! So how would you know if it is stupid or not?"

That one really gets 'em stumped.

Elenna
10-02-2002, 03:43 PM
I also say things like "Yes, I read TRUE literature. What do you read? Or can you just not read?"

Sure, it's mean, but whenever somebody attacks my Tolkien habits, they need to be TAKEN DOWN!

Oh, I love to do all those things. Definetly like to quote from the movie and/or book. Hehe, here's a good one though:
Talk to them, on and on about a specific part in the book then be like, oh yeah did you get to that part yet? Ah, it was the best! Oh, and also sad, I was like..(and so on) and then they're like...Um..yeah ok. And then you say, Oh..that's right...you don't like LotR. Ok, well I'll just go talk to someone else then.

If they're snobby, mean, and you really don't like them, add at the end that you'll go talk to someone worthy enough to listen to you, lol. (Ok, I'm really not a mean person though!)

Ah, I had my own One Ring once, but it has been misplaced. I've been VERY concerned about it. Even as I type this, I feel my heart wrench. Though it's probably somewhere in my room, you never know. I suppose it may be for the better, because It was beginning to gat a hold on us... I mean me. And I like the idea with reenacting scenes. Hmm...
Anyhow, on to my suggestions:
Generally act like Smeagol/Gollum. Only that usually just scares people
Start smiling whenever anything even vaguely reminds you of Tolkien or any of his work.
(I know it's been mentioned before) Quote LotR whenever possible.
Constantly write your notes in Tengwar (Ok, haven't gotten there yet, but I'm working on it)
Doodle LotR-related things on your notes.
Talk about Arda and its events enough to make people think it actually exists (you mean it doesn't? Shut up, you! Um, okay).
Wear a cape to school(I plan on doing so once my mom makes it), and sport Elf Ears (again, not until I send the order, which could take long, as I don't have a credit card).
Get the teacher mad at you by discussing the Balrog Wing Debate (makes sign against evil) in class instead of doing your work.
That's all I can think of for now.

One of my favorite annoying-things-to-do is to tape things written in Elvish outside my dorm room. Most people on my floor have never even heard about Tolkien, much less know how to speak Elvish, and for some absurd reason, seeing my random snippets of writing makes them incredibly angry. smilies/rolleyes.gif I don't know.

The funny thing is, one of my roommates absolutely DETESTS anything having to do with LotR (or I think just literature in general). The other day she summed up Tolkien's entire legacy in her favorite three words: 'stupid little books.' So now, JUST for her, I quote from those 'stupid little books' left and right, and I'm in the process of proving to her just how wrong she is ... simultaneously educating AND perturbing her.

My cousin read LotR some time ago, and claims that he liked it, but not enough to go see the movie. Like that was so hard to do, and now it's on DVD, but noooo....

So anyway, we like to write goofey stories together, and in them we parody, emulate and plagerize our favorite things. Like we've got Indiana Jones and Star Wars and Lewis Carroll and Secret Agents (though I don't really like James Bond) all stewing together in our freaky little pot (or "plot" hehe).

So lately I've been writing LotR jokes right and left. One character is named Tuck (short for Kentucky, a spoof on Indiana) and I wrote, "Fool of Tuck!" Since it's been so long since he read the book, he's was like, "Okaaaaaay..."

I figure I'll make him curious enough to re-read or view the movie eventually. smilies/smile.gif

the best is when people ask where someone is and you just casual reply..
"mm.. i think he/she went to find the the sun"
or
"i saw them getting dragged off by orcs a couple of minutes ago but i was doing my hair/couldn't find my arrows etc
wierd stares follow until you have to explain.. good education for them!
i also love to write the date in elvish on the board in french class, no wonder the teacher thinks i'm crap at french

Try to start telling the entirety of "The Silmarillion" in history class.

(Note: see "Situation Comedy" in this same forum to see what that's all about!)

I would have told the whole thing too...

I haven't really done these b4, but I can picture them!

My mom asking me what I want for dinner, I say: tomahtoes, sausage and nice crispy bacon!

(This one is of you have seen the new TTT trailer) 3 people come to your door, you say: What business does an Elf, a Man and a Dwarf have at my doorstep? Speak quickly!

(This one is of you have seen the new TTT trailer) You are outside with 3 friends, and you go back inside leaving your friends outside, then you come back and say: I come back to you now, at the turn of the time.

Relatives come over to your house, and they are all in the livingroom, you come out from your room, look at that over-sized uncle (or whatever) and say: They have a cave troll

Good-bye for now!

There is nothing better to do than to glare at random people and start chanting in Elvish under your breath. All I am really saying is "I have given Hope to the Duinedain..." and "A! Elbereth, Glithoneil" but it really creeps them out!

Elenna

Artanis - I do the same thing! Also, I turn off the lights in the locker room and sing Elbereth Gilthoniel while I turn them back on.

All I have to do to annoy the girl who sits next to me in my Business Computer class is to come on this site during class, which I do all the time. I also talk about LOTR a lot, and quote and wear the one ring every day. Also, I plan to wear a cloak to school, after I actaully sew it. Also, I went trough The Hobbit and got the entire alphabet in runes, so I write in Runes a lot now.

I always find that a dark mutter works best... as to the Elbereth Glithonel thing, do you sing it? If so, may I have the melody? I would like to see if I could play it on my cello smilies/smile.gif

Here are a few things i do to annoy my friends:

1. ALL my wallpaper for my desktop is Tolkein related, so when my friends come to use the computer they see The Great Eye watching them. lol!

2. I quote from the movie and the books alot.

3. I do the funky chicken lookin dance that Frodo does in the movie, while talking or walking through the mall.

4. I talk about how great The Barrow Downs is (for some reason this really annoys them).

Artanis: I don't know what...oh dang I forgot who it was...but I don't know what tune the person who sings Elbereth Gilthoniel uses in her locker room...but I know I've heard a really nice melody for that song on the CD "The Starlit Jewel". It helps for singing...though not with the cello. But I thought it would interest you, anyway.

in marching band, i like to play track no. 11 (the ring goes south) and sum of track 17 (the breaking of the fellowship).

then there's this boy named ad***** his name is too foul to utter here. neway, in the marching band drill i am the farthest person back on the field, and he's in front of me. (hard to see the drum major; even though he's way younger than me, he's much taller) i was happy b/c the directors can't notice you're getting revenge on cursed creatures. smilies/evil.gif he kept on calling JRRT gay, kept saying that Bilbo and Frodo wanted each other, that Bilbo's name was suppose to be "D!ldo" (sry about the language!) and that my "top 10 reasons u noe ur a JRRT fan" shirt was missing the words "is gay" after JRRT. i was reallyyyy POed. so u remember that part of drill i was talking about when i was in the back of the field? well i would always whisper for him to leave his spot early. (he learned soon to do that or else a trumpet would make a dent in his arm.) then i would hit him and at the same time said "arn't u supposed to b up there?" in a nice voice. he thought this whole time i was joking though when i was really mad at him. today at our competition on the bus, he "retracted" all his statements he had ever said about lotr stuff b/c i was telling everyone how he's so ignorant for having the nerve to put runes on his pillow and then dis JRRT. that'll teach him to mess with an angry halfling! smilies/wink.gif
that does have to do w/ the topic b/c after awhile ppl were wondering why i was so mad and were telling me to let it go b/c they were tired of hearing about it. hehe i guess i am annoying.
also, nething i do in my life consists of lotr related things, and ppl just don't pay attention nemore. oh well. i'll make it back to my homeland one day.... smilies/smile.gif

Even in places in the conversation where the quote doesn't make sense.

Very funny. Not so much in the middle of conversation but whenever there's a silence and I know everyone in the room will hear me I often shout out quotes such as "What are you doing, THOSE WRAITHS ARE STILL OUT THERE!"

And I also use simile A LOT in conversation. Example. "As black as Weathertop" or " I guess I'll just have to play Gandalf to your Balrog"

HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHA! These are great! I got a cousin who does the whole "Act like Gollum" thing. (Poor girl. She doesn't have her own ring.)

What really annoys people where I live, is to talk on, and on, and on, about LOTR, really fast so they can't get a word in edgewise, and then say "You DO know about LOTR, right?"

then when they say no, shake your head, and walk away. Heh heh! It's great! smilies/biggrin.gif

Tonight, I was talking to my sisters, and was saying something about tomatoes. I almost said to-mah-toes!! I live in the South, and have a huge southern accent, and say it to-may-toes. But lately I've been goofing off and mimicking the LOTR characters accents, especially Pippen's. It must be wearing off on me more than I realized!

Haha, all this stuff is hilarious, I have to try it sometime! I don't really have any friends that like LotR like I do, they've all ofcourse seen the movie and think it's great, but if I try talking to them about something that happens in TTT or RotK they don't understand anything, and I'm like "Well, why don't you read the book?!" and the answer always is different variations off "Are you mad?! I can't be bothered, it's sooo long. And the next movie will be out soon anyways!!"

I'm driving my brother up the wall with the "YOU CANNOT PASS!!" quote tho, hehe, it's such a laugh. But it's not that easy for me using the quotes, as english isn't the mainlanguage where I live... And then it obviously sounds abit stupid if I start shouting random LotR quotes in english! Hehe.

Mintyztwin

hahaha, this stuff is cracking me up. smilies/biggrin.gif Someone on here once went into Star Wars and yelled "IT'S SHARKEY!" really loud in the crowded theatre when Count Dooku came on. I no its not my story, but I laughed about it for days, and it really deserves mentioning. I just annoy people by getting really exicted that LOTR and my rival favorite Matrix Reloaded are getting their second movie out soon. I'll just keep on going on about it for a really long time if people let me. I haven't gotten to the point where Im quoting it in class, but relax, it's coming.

Gayahithwen
10-28-2002, 12:11 PM
These are all hilarious!

What do I do.. Well, I've newly discovered that there actually is at least one boy in my class who has read more of JRRT's books then I have.. Plus the fact that he actually has read them in english, while I just learn my favorite quotes.. Don't worry, I will read them in english as soon as I can find some time.. Anyway, that boy is driving me nuts about complaining about that he don't think Unfinished Tales should have been published. I think I drive him nuts by pointing out things that he has missed while reading the books. Hah. Serves him right!

I have another classmate who is more normal (meaning she has seen the movie and read LotR + The Hobbit)(I'm not that normal. I read the Hobbit and LotR before I even heard about the movie. and Silmarillion before I saw FotR. plus I've gotten Unfinished Tales and Book of Lost Tales. add the fact that I'm a member of this site. Nope, I sure aint normal.. hhmm.. depends on how you define normal, of course. ah, what the.. I'll stop this right now). She is more fun discussing with. Of course, the majority of the class has seen FotR, so they understand me when I quote something from it. Some days ago, I had my notepad with me and a girl said she wanted to have a paper from it. I didn't respond, so she said 'oh well, then I'll take it from you'.. I went something like: 'no, you can't! it's my own, my preciousssss...'. unfortunate enough, she didn't hear what I was saying, so I repeated the quote in swedish (since I live in Sweden. duh.), but she didn't get it. So I had to EXPLAIN what I had meant, so she went 'aah'.. and it really wasn't fun anymore..

It's hard to do many of these things, since many of the ways to irritate people of includes quoting the movie and I'm not sure if everybody I know are good enough at english to understand me and I HATE to explain what I meant when doing jokes like that. HHhhmmm... I think my brain lost me about five minutes ago, so if the end of this post seems weird, that's why.

Oh, way too funny!!! smilies/biggrin.gif

Talking about LotR nonstop for hours on end really gets on people's nerves, even those who really like the books/movie. Quoting lines is always good, but only quote the Sindarin ones (you get the weirdest looks...). Play the Soundtrack 24-7, wallpaper your room with LotR pics and posters, and wear The One Ring everywhere. (If you don't have the Ring, find a reasonable facimile smilies/wink.gif ) Acting like Gollum is my fave, though; my Books, my Insanity Folder(residence of my LotR stuff), my Ring, and my Sword (Sting) all get called My Precious constantly.

Plus getting on Barrow Downs in my computer class when I'm s'posed to be working seems to irritate people too.....

Okay, stuff I do 2 annoiy peeps that don't like lotr... Hmm... this list could be endless...
I insult my sisters in elvish!!!! That si way fun!!! I sat through the whole church suvice today attacking them in elvish curses. And we were right in the front row... got some VERY evil looks... smilies/evil.gif
For christmas I got 100 LotR FotR stickers and I bugged my perants by for the rest of the day complaing that there were more pics of arwen then there was of Frodo alone (Which is acuttally true...) Now they are covering the walls of my broom closet sized room... Along with the pic I printed off the inet...
Err... What else do I do... (You shouldn't of started this topic... I will go on for years) Oh yeah, Me and my mates sped the whole of lunch break in the school IT rooms (On barrowdowns!!!) ANd one time the school B**** came in. I instantly turned the soundtrack to the two towers up to full volume. Very fun!
Okay I have one more thing to put down and then u'll be rid of me till tomorrow...
Me and my mate went to see Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets (Mainly for the TTT trailer smilies/biggrin.gif ) ANdthis party of kids came in in the midlle of the trailer so we missed most of it... **Sulks** So I had this ultra evil idea and ever time that the spiders came on scrren we ran our hands uyp the side of the chairs in front of us to bug them. My nickname is SAM and the girl in front of me yelled:

i constantly listen to the FotR and TTT soundtracks and i never let anybody else touch them or listen to them.
it bugs people very much when they say stuff that reminds me of LotR so i say what it reminds me of and go into this huge discussion. that just bugs people.
i am alway quoting stuff from the books and movies too.
oh and i am always on this site doing stuff which REALLY bugs people.

One of my very good friends and I made up a farewell, which we say ro each other every time we leave. (she is a LotR fan also.) Her brother, however, is not, and pretends to scream and he covers his ears every time we say it. (We are hard at work converting him, and have actually made some progress. He is reading the Hobbit now!

Well, this is not the reply, but here it goes... "Farewell dear comrad in arms, may I see you again! May your roads be easy and your heart light! Farewell!"

To which she replies.... "Be brave and coreageous, slay them nasty orcs, and may your arrow fly true!"

Then the rousing finally of "Farewell!"s. Hee hee.

Oh and also, I annoy my parents and sibs by spending a lot of time here, and talking about LotR a lot of the time. (They all like it though. Read the books and all! Or at least listened to them... My Mom read them to them all. It is just that LotR seems to slip into every conversation I have with someone.... Very strange...)

Hmm. Well, let's see. I will try not to be hasty. (hee hee)
Well, I spend "way too much time on here" according to my mom. very annoying for her becuase all she can hear is the keyboard. Whenever somebody says somthing bad about LotR i attack them. I say random quotes from the movie. I was taking stuff for supper the other night and i was like "oh i want some potatoes. and some carrots. and some cabbages. adn then those three bags of potatoes that we lifted last week. and then the mushrooms the week before!" heh heh Um...i call people bad names in Elvish, i say goodbye in Elvish, whenever somebody says something that reminds me of LotR i say the quote with the accent. Heh heh. Hoom him hom...i REALLY want the One Ring....and I want either Sting or a bow too so I can gloat over them and say My Precioussssssss...and also so i can stab people (Gently, my friends, gently!) when they tick me off.
Whatever sams your gamgee...catchy.

All right, I just thought of these,

When your teacher gives you one of those silly ahndouts about how to write a paper or something you have to read to write a paper on say "What is this new devilry?" (I actualy did that once but no one heard me.)

When your teachers are giving you an assignment, but not handing you anything, say in a tired, slightly moaning voice, "Why do you lay these troubles on an already troubled mind?" (I haven't tried that one....yet.)

Another thing to annoy people, whenever the bell rings at school yell "The horn of Gondor! Boromir's in trouble!" Quoting the book all the time is fun, too. smilies/evil.gif

The funniest thing by far is to hit the Orli-boppers and 'Lijers with random facts about Legolas and Frodo...Did you know that none of the 'Lijers at SHC know hat Frodo is 50 at the time of the Quest?!!

smilies/biggrin.gif ahahahahaha these cracked me up smilies/biggrin.gif

I have one friend who hates LotR with a passion simply cause i've annoyed her with it for so long smilies/biggrin.gif

Just little things...blocking the door when she tries to leave screaming 'YOU CANNOT PASS' ... insisting i'd make a good wizard and asking her to buy me a staff smilies/biggrin.gif Not to mention all the LotR wallpapers i downloaded from the site, just to send to her, and every time i visit i change her background to them smilies/biggrin.gif And then theres the countless times i called her an Orc and attacked her with my foam axe smilies/rolleyes.gif

Yes i am annoying, but hey, if you don't like lord of the rings u deserve to be annoyed like that :P

There's a tonne of more stuff I've done, but eh, its late that's all i can think of smilies/wink.gif.

I've taken to writing Tengwar messages all over everywhere at school (i.e. on assignments, on the blackboard...) which gets on people's nerves. And then there's my countdown; every day I tell everyone *exactly* how many days are left until RotK is in theaters. (as of the day of this post, there are 308 days left!)

Then, whenever my family has to go somewhere (i.e. family parties), I bring Sting along with me. Just because I can, as I only barely got the scabbard for it. YAY!! smilies/biggrin.gif

I have discovered that the best way to annoy people about the LOTR trilogy is to quote lines, talk about the books and movies incessently, and to do various other Tolkien realated things. Examples, you say? So be it...

In English one day, my teacher was trying to give an example of passive voice writing. The example she used was "Frodo was given gifts to aid him on his journey." She asked me who gave the gifts (expecting me to spout off an answer such as "You can't tell from the sentence.") and so I answered with. "Galadriel. And Bilbo, Bombadil, Butterbur, Elrond, and Faramir. Did I miss any?" thus causing a large debate about how Bombadil's gifts technically didn't aid them with the quest, since the quest didn't begin until after they left him. That ticked off my entire class, with the exception of 3 people, who like me, were debating the relevance of singing as a gift.

For another, whenever I don't want people to read something I'm writing, I write it in Runes. This truly annoys teachers that confiscate the notes and the people who try to read over my shoulder.

Instead of using the nicknames or common names, such as Strider, Sam, and Gandalf, I almost always use Estelyn Telcontar, Samwise, and Mithradir.

When the girls in my school start talking about "that hot elf guy" (Legolas), I always enter the conversation with "No way- I could list actors much hotter." And then I start to list them.

When people start an IM with a question, I answer with "yessss, my preciousssss?"

When people talk about how cool Arwen was in the movies, I ask if she asked permission to ride Glorfindel's horse.

I have shots from the movies in my locker, as well as my much-worn copy of FOTR.

My all-purpose notebook has slightly changed song lyrics from LOTR, including a rendition of In Dreams.

I sing "Where There's a Whip, There's a Way" from the cartoon version of Return of the King, and I quote Pippen saying: "Gandalf, come quick. Denathor's gone plum loony!"

I hope that's enough, since I'm off to make myself lunch.

I dont do this just to annoy the people who dont liike LOTR but also to the people who do.
I have this problem where if i think something is chessy i burst out laughing like the whole Arwen sleep scene. i also laugh when its really quite. i went again recently wit my best friend and at the part when Treebeard sees all the cut down trees it gets really quite and i burst out laughing. At these parts in the movie i usally get more atenntion than the movie because everyone is staring at me because im laughing. smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/wink.gif smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

I think I might have posted this in another topic...but I have this master plan to SERIOSULY freak out people who hate hobbits.Print up all thses pics of hobbits and tape them all over the place. if the plan goes correctly, this is what will happen:
When the victim wakes up in the morning she will find a picture taped to her alarm clock. and then one to her closet. now mildly annoyed she will get dressed etc. and in the bathroom she will find another pic on the mirror. She continues her morning routine, finding pics around the kitchen etC, setting out to school rather annoyed. when at school she will discover pictures first all over her lockers, in her backpack and purse. Slightly creeped out now, she will find pictures in her textbooks, on her desks, on her little pocket-mirror thing, on her back and virtually everywhere. And then, finally, she discovers a sign in her locker saying 'hobbits know where you live'. She will then freak out and break down crying, loosing whatever sanity she had left...ok the last part's not guarunteed but at least she'll get SERIOUSLY freaked out smilies/biggrin.gif

I love to annoy people, especially people that see the movies 80 billion times but never read the books and think they're all "Tolkien Literate"
Geees! I have read the books, all mind you, and I recite lines that fit in with situations,
"Go back to the fiery chasm from wence you came!" to the annoying girl who tries to steal my boyfriends.
"Fool of a took!" To the snobby girls on my volleyball team, when they make a dumb mistake,
"Fog on the Barrow downs" To the skeptical people asking what site I'm on.
People think I'm weird but they're weird too, just too cowardly to express their internal weirdness!
