View Full Version : Middle-earth Mayhem guidelines

Middle-earth Mayhem was created as a place for humorous discussions of Middle-earth. An area of funny stories and thoughtful but light-hearted musings on Tolkien's creations. Unfortunately, it has devolved into an endless series of lists. What would so-and-so do?...101 most irritating 101 lists.... Things gollum would never eat!.

We can do better than this. I know the lists are fun and easy to make and participate in, but they are frivolous and tiringly repetetive. Please don't make more of such topics. Instead, if you must open a new topic, try to make it one that can be talked about and not just added to, bit-by-bit.

Thanks,

Would you like us 'topic starters' to delete 'list' topics we've started?

EDIT: I have deleted Top Ten or Top Five Lists - it was not very long yet - and not very good either.

May I help bump this up?
Oh, wait a minute, I just did... http://www.smilies.nl/dieren/grommit.gif

Can you not reset the date of the first post to something like 3rd January 2005? That helps keep the FAQ and Policy threads at the top...but why am I telling you what to do? You are the owner/curator of this site! http://www.smilies.nl/dieren/grommit.gif

Sorry! smilies/frown.gif

I'm going to start deleting NEW offending posts. Those ridiculous diary threads are in my sights at the moment.

well you may have not expected replies but here goes, all of these guidelines make a lot of sense and all but i personally don't know what you want us to post, could you make some sort of post that is MM appropriate. I know I know i have not a creative bone in my body. i would be in your eternal debt. thank you.

...Or perhaps post a couple links to some threads that are the paragons of Mayhem perfection; the very quintessential jewels of light-hearted discussions—just to show what we should all be aspiring to. I have to admit I also draw a blank when I think of what kind of things to post under the guidelines. Does it always have to be something we "discuss" or are threads for writing different kinds of parodies acceptable? (For instance, Middle-earth Answering Machine Messages (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=17&t=000214) was a personal favorite, but when I think about it, it wasn't really a discussion.)

I'm sorry...I know...you have to spell out everything for us, don't you? smilies/rolleyes.gif

A great example of clever Middle Earth mayhem is burrahobbit's Haiku thread (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=17&t=000244&p=1).

*I'm new in the forum and somewhat clueless but...*

Are karaoke songs okay? They would somewhat be a list of songs, but then again not. *is confused*

Barrow Wight, are there any other "perfected" threads we should look to as examples?

Can't you just lock/close this thread so it is always on top, like the Rules in the other forums?
