Trippo was not quite sure what to do at the moment as the music started up. So he thought what better thing to do then dance. Seeing that Menelien was taken at the moment, and knowing that he would get his dance later. He decided to share the wealth with someone else. He saw a lovly warg off in the distance and ran to her. Picked her up and began to waltz.

Elentari having suddenly left, Lëowen found herself alone again. Maybe someone else she knew would show up. Leaning against the wall, Lëowen watched for any of her friends.

Sam got up and greatfully followed Frodo to th' breakfast table. "Didn't mean t' embarrass you, sir--it's just th't we're Baptists. smilies/wink.gif Don't do th' drinkin' or that kinda dancin'. You didn't know.

Primrose followed her father and "Uncle", and Stacey started to, as well, but then she noticed Tennyson looking a bit sad.

Mmm....

Stacey ran over to Sam and whispered in his ear. "I'm going to go make a call. Be right back. "

Sam nodded, and Stacey headed outside. Once there, she pushed up her sleeve and pushed the buttons on her wrist communicator (which also did a few other things, but for that see the last party).

"Worthington? Yes, it's...no, not ready to go home, yet....there's someone I need you to go get and bring here..."

Blushing and trying to overcome his shyness, Firramer led Alasse out to the dance floor. Fortunately the music had changed to a slower dance more in the style of his people; a few minutes before it had been hard rock and he didn't think he could stand that.

Alasse was quite a beautiful Elf. Of course all Elves were much like that. Firramer spoke hesitantly, wondering exactly what he should say, "Where do you come from, m'lady?" he asked. "And what brings you here? The party, I suppose," he said after a quick reflection. Blushing again, he added, "You're quite a good dancer."

Fin grudgingly followed Sophia, after taking one last look in the mirror.
"Are you sure?"
"Oh shut up," she replied and dragged him out into the hall. "Youy need some drink inside you. That will get your self-confidence back."
"Agreed."

They walked toward the bar, and suddenly Fin was caught around the waste by a lovely pair of arms.
"Hello," Thoriel cried, "I'm awake!"
"And none the worse I hope," Fin asked.
"I'm fine," she replied.
"Good. An orange juice perhaps?" He walked up to the bar and ordered the drinks. He handed them out, Thoriel with a Orange Juice and Fin and Sophia had yet another white wine each."
"Perhaps you should be on the juice," Sophia commented as Fin gulped down the glass.
"Perhaps....but it isn't going to happen!"

"What is wrong with me" thought Firondoiel as she danced with The Phantom. "I hardly know the guy. He's just toying with me, playing the stud role."

But as she looked up into his eyes, she knew this was not true. He seemed to radiate honesty and genuine tenderness. "Then why does he act like he doesn't have feelings sometimes? Why doesn't he consider that others have them too?"

"Because I'm both a man of business and a man of war" said The Phantom aloud. Firondoiel opened her mouth in shock.

"How did you know-"

"Firondoiel, how could anyone possibly forget my mental abilities? I can hear many people's thoughts, particularly when they involve me" he answered. "In most of the work I do, it is to my advantage to appear cold and composed. Emotions make me feel... well... vulnerable."

Firondoiel's heart bled for The Phantom, who despite seeming to be above the rest of the world and its residents, and despite appearing to have the best of everything, was not entirely happy.

They were swiftly interrupted by the sound of The Phantom's cell phone. The Phantom realized with alarm that it was his upper left pocket phone, the one only used in emergencies.

He gave Firondoiel a quick smile and sprinted towards one of the back doors at a speed Firondoiel had never seen from any person, or perhaps even from a steed of Rohan. A single tear fell from her face and fell towards the floor, catching every light in the room as it dropped.

Firondoiel made her way slowly from the dance floor.

Menelien tapped Gimli on the shoulder as they danced, pointing to the other side of the dance floor. A gigle erupted from each of them, as that was the side the balrogs were dancing on... and Trippo and a warg. Of course, Trippo was quite a nice fellow, but watching him flirting with a hyena was amusing smilies/wink.gif

As Fin drank his fill, he remembered the night. Suddenly he thought of Chicken, had he returned? He looked over at Mattius but no yellow feathered thing was to be found there.
"Chicken is still missing," he said, worriedly.
"Well lets find him then," Sophia answered.
"Yeh, lets go," Thoriel exclaimed. She was now full of energy after her sleep and was bouncing on the spot ready to go.

They divided up to search, Thoriel moving toward the stage, Fin searching the main hall and Sophia looking in the side rooms.

Fin searched for many minutes but the closest thing he foun to Chicken was an elven furry scarf that had been discarded by someone.
"Oh dear," he thought, " I hope one of the others has had better luck."

After standing and staring at the walls for some time (my favorite pastime!), someone hisses at me.
"Get off the stage! Who do you think you are? The Disco King?" I comply with a sheepish grin. What was I doing here? I was up on STAGE? SINGING? ME? When was the Barrow-danceoff? And when was the Disco-wight going to arrive? I wandered around asking any and all elves, for everyone knows they are the most knowledgable, but they just stared and/or edged off. Something was wrong. I had not had any alcohol, and had kept both eyes on my apple juice. So drunkenness and spiking were out.
Then I looked at the buffet table. To my horror, two of the orc security guards were there. It looked like they had snuck in, for they were trying to hide.
"Here it is! Marmaduke's been looking for this!" He held up the pot of the chocolate mousse! How and why could that be?
"Yeh! You know how mad he gets when they mistake his styling gel for a dessert!" the two shared a good chuckle and crept back out through some unknown hole.
But I reeled. That would explain the hallucinations, the worse than usual dyslexia, the strange behavior!
"Orken Hair Mousse!" a scream escaped my lips. Not chocolate mousse at all, but the vile concoction made from toads, poisonous toadstools and (gulp) limburger cheese!! I rushed to the bar.
"Quick," I wheezed. "Antidote! I need an antidote to Orken Hair Mousse!" My fingernails scratched deep grooves in the counter as I sought to keep standing...

Sophia the Thunder Mistress

Sophia moved away from the group, fairly skeptical about the chances of fiding a foot tall yellow dancing chicken hiding in the same corners she'd so recently checked in, but being in a good mood she poked the fallen jackets and scarves and the occasional inebriated Barrowdowner.

"Chicken?" she asked the air softly, standing bewilderedly a little way from where HerenIstarion was looking more and more stiff. From under the sofa a pair of eyes glinted. "Chicken?" she asked again, dropping to her hands and knees and peering under the sofa. Sophia pushed her hair back out of her eyes and fought a feeling that she was making a fool of herself.

The pair of eyes withdrew under the sofa. "Don't you want to come out and..." Sophia racked her brain for whatever chickens might like to do. "...sign autographs?" she blurted, he was after all a famous chicken. A yellow beak poked out cautiously, followed by a head crowned with a large red... thing. Sophia looked around carefully to make sure nobody could see her talking to the underneath of a couch before adding, "We'll buy you a drink..." in a coaxing tone.

When he heard that Chicken popped out from under the couch entirely and began dancing his world-famous jig. Sophia giggled as he followed her back to the main room.

Firondoiel finally made it back to her table. As she sat she thought back over her brief dance with The Phantom. At last she understood him. Her heart ached when she remembered how sad his eyes looked when he explained why he disliked to show emotions. Another tear escaped her eye when she thought about how it must be for him to keep everything inside. It's not right for him to have to feel that way. she thought.

Her musings were interrupted by a chuckling Gimli and Menelien returning to the table. They were so wrapped up in their conversation that they didn't even notice Firondoiel's distress.

Firondoiel's thoughts turned to her feelings for The Phantom. What am I putting over on myself? There's just no way. she thought sadly. And what about Arafangwen? Why does life everything have to be so complicated? she asked herself with a sigh. I suppose I'll just have to let everything work itself out. But meanwhile, I believe The Phantom needs a friend.

Fin was just about to give up when he saw Sophia returning with the famous yellow chicken.
" Chicken!" he cried, and walked over. Thoriel, who had heard him also returned.
"Allow me to buy you a drink" Fin said, hoping the yellow bird would stay in a good mood for more than ten minutes. He noticed that Thoriel and Sophia in their dresses were also making Chicken perk up slightly.

Arafangwen
05-02-2003, 05:51 PM
Arafangwen forced herself to turn and look at her friends as they were approaching the table. At the exact moment she turned, The Phantom looked alarmed, searched his pocket, smiled at Firondoiel and dashed off with a speed that she had only seen from one other person, one who was very dear to her heart. Her eyes glazed over and she slumped in her chair as the sceen from so long ago rushed by her with such enormacy that a single tear made it's way down her face only to land on the cold hard floor. "Whats wrong?" she heard a voice nearby ask. Arafangwen shook herself mentaly to answer the stranger but could not seem to make it stop, "Oh no! Not here, not now!" she thought in desperation as her slim figure slid completly off her chair and onto the floor where she lay until it had passed.

"Legolas!" she cried out immedietly as she regained use of her voice. Several heads turned to stare at the elven lady on the floor who seemed in quite a state of shock.

Arafangwen shook her head, "At least I can see now." she thought to herself as her sences slowly returned to her.

Arafangwen slowly sat up and quickly looked around to see if anyone had seen her outburst. Her spirits fell as she relized that almost everyone around her was staring right at her.

Her fingers fingered the box she slowly opened it, she was blinded by the brightness. “Oh it is beautiful” Niluial exclaimed. Holding the beautiful diamond necklace in her hands.
“May I put it on for you my lady?”
“Oh please do!” Don put it around her neck and she looks exquisite! “My you look amazing!”
“Oh do I” Niluial said. She hugged him tight and gave Don a kiss. “I love it!”

"Can I get a RootBeer?"She asked a passing waiter.
"Just a mintute" he said as he hurried off. Seconds later he reapeared with a RootBeer.
"Thank you" Eärwen said. She looked around, and saw a table where a one person sat. It was Eruwen.

"LEGOLAS!" Came a scream from behind Trippo. It startled him so much that he tossed the warg he was dancing with right through a wall. As he turned to see what all the commotion was about. Little did Trippo know he had actually caused a larger commotion, by throwing his partner through a wall. Trippo turned around to see the gaping hole in the wall. "Sorry aobut that Mith, I'll pay fot that." He called.

With a better reception to the gift than expected don was pleased and asked Niluial to show off to all by partaking in the waltz which was just beginning.

Although Don rarely waltzed he found Nil to be very adept and thus a good teacher. He had soon picked the finer points up and began to look at Nil's eyes instead of her Feet.

Firondoiel hurried over to Arafangwen who was laying on the floor. "Arafangwen? Are you all right? Arafangwen?!" Firondoiel said anxiously waiting for a response. Instead of answering her, Arafangwen screamed, "Legolas!" then slowly got back into her chair and glanced around the room. "Arafangwen?" Firondoiel gently layed a hand on her friends arm. Arafangwen turned to Firondoiel with tear filled eyes and spoke so softly that even with elven hearing Firondoiel caught her words. "I want Legolas."

Firondoiel took Arafangwen in a comforting embrace, trying to think of something to say that would soothe her friend's pain.

Eruwen
05-02-2003, 06:30 PM
Eruwen had returned to her table some time earlier. Another day had passed, and many new faces had arrived at the party. She saw Samwise finally, and Elentari, Dragoneyes, and many others. It seemed that Eruwen was just hidden within the shadows of the room. After all, she was at a back table near a window.

I believe I shall go get a drink she thought suddenly rising from her seat. Maybe after that I will feel like being a bit more...outgoing at this party.

As Eruwen left to get a drink, she passed through many familiar faces waving at each. Soon, she returned once more to her lonesome table and sat down to drink from the glass in front of her. This was going to be one more long night. Suddenly she saw Earwen come up to the table. Eruwen knew who this one was, but they rarely talked in the past.

"Sure you can join me," Eruwen replied. "It's been a very odd night, hasn't it? It almost seems weird having every member here together in one place...well, almost every member. I still havn't seen Burra. I figured he would show up sooner or later just to make an appearance."

Chicken sipped his drink, his gaze directed at Thoriel who sat across the table sending him a slightly suspicious glance. Fin and Sophia exchanged glances, "Methinks our fowl friend has questionable intentions..." Sophia whispered to him. Fin chuckled as Thoriel sent him a bit of an acid look.

Grinning he stood up, "Let's leave the young lovers alone for a bit then, shall we?" Chicken looked excited at this prospect. Sophia stood up thinking that being the object of Thoriel's look might indeed kill her.

"What shall we do, then?" she asked Fin as they wandered away from the table toward the bar. Fin took her hand and bowed.

"Well, this is a party, therefore, first we drink, then we dance!" He declared smoothly, picking up two more wines. Sophia took hers and drank it quickly.

"My, my..." Fin laughed as he finished up a bit after her and led her out to the floor. Sophia was a little tired, it was growing late, and as the dance was a slow one, she let Fin guide her, both in her steps and in the conversation.

Fin guided Sophia through the moves of the slow dance. Thinking back on all the parties he had held and been to, this had to be one of the best, except maybe that Winter party several years ago. But that was another story.
"We seem to be miraculously drinking more and sobering up," Fin commented. "I think there is something not quite right."
"Oh well," Sophia replied, "lets just enjoy the moment. I'm sure we will be left at a table all night so we will soon be unconscious again."
"Um...suspect so," Fin agreed.

The music stopped but Fin continued dancing and as the next music picked up he adjusted his steps accordingly.
"No point in stopping just yet," he said and held her closer.

Ransom

While the majority of the guest had arrived and made their way into the Great Hall of the White Tower of Gondor, a small number of tardy creatures continued to stream down the red carpet under the watchful eyes of the orcish guards. Their captain, a bulky but still intelligent orc, remained vigilant, carefully looking over each visitor for any hidden arms. In the past few days, the Urks had received constant reminders of the price of failure to obey orders. Most of the guards who had been found wanting had been assigned to stand watch over the protesters. The sight of one of their comrade-in-arms dangling from a flag poll by his underwear had spurred the remaining orcs into greater vigilance.

For probably the fiftieth time in the last three hours, the orcish captain shielded his eyes and addressed a visitor. “You’ll ‘ave ta leave your weapons ‘ere with da guards, zir elf. Da weapons will be returned upon departure.”

While the orc was nearly six feet five inches tall slouching, the elf that stood in front of the guard was still a head taller. Ransom casually pulled open his heavy black traveling cloak and began to rummage through the various pouches clipped to his belt. In short order, the orc found himself the chaperone of three small knives, four sealed bottles full of yellow liquid, and a long sword. His black hair, despite being pulled back into a ponytail, still seemed somewhat messy. Nodding his thanks to the orc, who was attempting to juggle his new load without dropping or breaking anything, the elf threaded his way through the crowd toward the bar.

"I should speak with you. But this is not the place. It is the time, but not the place, actualy I should've told you along time ago, I guess I just didn't have the courage." she paused as there were still people staring at her.

"I should keep quiet for now." she said aloud as she began to search Firondoiels mind for any traces of a gift in the area of Onsawe.

"Are you in?"

"How about a little later, Anuion? I mean, I'm eating, I want to dance some... You like to dance, why don't you for a bit. We should let everyone settle down a bit. Or, you could try inebriating Beth to make our job easier while I talk to Lyra. Okay? I'll talk to you in a bit."

Leaving Anuion with a confused look on his face (maybe that is just how he looks, I don't know), Rytien went back to talking to Lyra. Now that she had gotten him out of her hair...

"Care to dance, Treekiller?" the hobbit asked.

Rytien laughed, "Of course, though I wish the macarena were not the dance you're talking about! I am much better at another one, Far Dareis Mai, even if you will not believe me!" Standing next to Lyra they shook it to the macarena, Rytien a bit stiffly, but not bad.

"Sorry about the whole sword thing. I forgot in my excitement. You know, I wonder about these awards. I mean, what kind of awards can they give out?" Rytien searched the room, still dancing, getting a bit more loose. "I saw Aman and Anuion. They look nice, Anuion a bit strange, but doesn't he always? He's already plotting, and I saw his little 'number' with you. He's a bit scary."

Suddenly Rytien's eyes found Trippo, the hippopatomus. She shook her head. That thing scared her, even more than Anuion. She might not be Tolkien, but atleast she was human! She focused her thoughts on the music for a moment, then shivered. It was spanish, or at least it sounded like it. Spanish. Tormenting memories of the three years of trying to learn spanish from a person who couldn't speak her own language crossed her mind, but she shut them out.

Back to the happy party. She smiled, dancing almost as well as the hobbit, her stiffness leaving her. "This is a great party. Even if the music is sucky, I always hate the music. Well...I seem to have lost my 'cultured' way of speaking. Oh well. Too many words."

Cuthalion gestured to where Maika sat, sipping her champange. Ransom raised an eyebrow and grinned, but before he could respond, Chicken tore past, clucking wildly. It seemed that he had had a bit too much to drink and had been inappropriate to one of the Wargs. Said Warg loped past snarling viciously as Chicken ran through the Hall, zig-zagging for all he was worth.

Thoriel smiled awkwardly at the chicken, the last thing she wanted was to have him running off again. She knew she should have worn her normal plain dress, it had just enough stains to keep any unwanted attention away.

The chicked edged closer to Thoriel, who rolled her eyes and poured herself a drink. She could still try to enjoy herself. She glanced over to where Fin and Sophia were dancing and gave them her most withering look, but they were too engrossed in what they were doing to notice. Thoriel felt somthing on her leg, she looked down and saw a wing casually resting on it. She just stared at the chicken with one eyebrow raised. He promptly removed his wing.

"Thankyou." She said, taking another gulp of her drink.

She glanced back over at the chicken, he looked so downcast, he just melted her heart so she picked him up and gave him a hug, just to show him he was still loved.

"Now why don't you show me that famous dance of yours?" asked Thoriel and the chicken was only too happy to oblige.

Some of the formerly-comatose guests had woken up, and more guests had arrived. The hall was slightly crowded, but not overly so. Lëowen was enjoying her first Barrow-downs party so far. "I'm sorry." the elven-maiden appologized in the wake of her outburst.

"I'm not usualy like this, I'm a fighter, not a fainter. I truly don't know what's come over me recently. I need a drink." she commented as she stopped a nearby waiter and asked for a frothy rootbeer.

"How have you been fairing good sir?" she asked as she suddenly remembered her manners.

"Primrose!"

"What?"

"Go turn your quiver and bow in right NOW! "
Stacey hissed, pointing toward the Uruks at the door.

Primrose wrinkled her nose. "To THOSE guys? No way. "

Stacey stood up. "Primrose Gamgee---"

"I'm not turning my quiver and bow in to any ORC!"

Stacey glanced around the table. WHERE in Middle Earth was Sam??? Oh, great..

Lëowen, seemingly invisible to everyone, stared at her empty glass. She had finished her drink, and now she was bored. "There must be something to do..." she said to herself. She looked over to the dance floor, "Well, I can't really dance, so that rules that out," Sighing, Lëowen stood up. After thinking for a moment, she shut her eyes and spun in a circle. A few people gave her odd looks, but she just smiled and walked off in the direction she had ended up facing.

She had no idea where Sam or Frodo were, and she was decidedly bored. She looked around and saw lots of new people, so she decided to go for a walk.

"She says she's all right but I'm not quite sure. Will you excuse me while I go check on her?" Firondoiel asked.

Weaving through the crowd, she looked up to see a young lady stand up, spin in a circle and when she stopped walk in the direction she was facing.

She must be as bored as I am, Stacey thought, wondering if she shouldn't go over and say hello. Looking back at the table, she saw that Tennyson had fallen asleep.

Stacey looked at her watch, then the door.

He'll be in for a nice surprise when he wakes up,she thought. Then she thought about Primrose's quiver and bow and shrugged.

Ah, so she's got her weapons. She wouldn't use them on anyone intentionally.....we're being ignored by everyone else, so the Orcs at the door probably ignored us, too....

Breaking her cardinal rule regarding smoking only on special occasions, Lush lit a Davidoff and puffed impatiently, yet innocently.

Everyone was off on a tangent of their own, even X and Mer were too busy buzzing about whose dress was more revealing, and the blur that enveloped her after her 35th alcoholic beverage showed no signs of abating.

Lush decided to fix the situation by getting her (innocent) hands on a bottle of red wine, which she poured for herself in between irate puffs. If only she could blow smoke-rings as perfect as Bilbo! Or at least Squatter!

What a way to celebrate the end of her freshman year of college! The fact that her white suit showed no signs of succumbing to the dark (dirty) side was her only consolation.

Eladoriel felt herself start to move.

"What happened? Where am I?" She asked.

A voice replied,
"You were drunk, and you fainted."

Eladoriel shot up with a scream.
"DRUNK? I WAS DRUNK? HOW COULD I!!! WHAT WAS I THINKING!"

She then finally realized that she was talking to someone. Someone? But who? Her eyesight was still blurry, and she could barely make out any distinct features of the fast-asleep guests around her. But who was she speaking to? That was the biggest mystery.

Lëowen weaved through the maze of tables, trying to keep a straight path in the direction she had ended up going. More than likely, she would get lost somehow, but at least that would be doing something. Sort of. Lëowen looked around the wonderous hall, laughing as she noted a disco ball hanging above the dance floor, and not paying much attention to where she was going. THUD! "Ouch!" cried Lëowen, glaring at the offending wall that had blocked her path. "Stupid wall." she told it.

The Saucepan Man
05-02-2003, 08:56 PM
A familiar clattering sound rang out from one of the recesses of the Great Hall. Most present ignored it, having become accustomed to the sound of pots and pans colliding with each other and their surroundings. One or two of the more recent arrivals looked up momentarily before returning to their party pursuits.

The Saucepan Man picked himself up from the floor beside the sofa where he had been sleeping. Confused and dazed for a moment, he wondered where he was.

"Ah yes, the Great Hall of Minas Anor" he remembered. "And the Barrow Downs Third Birthday Party".

A contended smile played across his wizened features as he took in his surroundings. Diamond had gone, but Heren-Istarion remained prone on a nearby sofa. Concerned over his somewhat uncomfortable posture, Saucepan picked his legs up and laid them across the length of the sofa. Heren-Istarion murmured contentedly in his sleep.

"Hmm, I hope that I haven't missed any fun while I have been sleeping".

And, with that, the Man laden with Pans poured himself another cup of tea and headed back to the merriment.

"I for one have never belived in drinking." said Arafangwen proudly, "I don't think it to be wise or beneficial in anyway so why should I." she stated bluntly.

Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of Firondoiel approaching her and turned to greet her, suddenly noticing the dejected look on her friends face she wondered what could've happened in such a short time that could've dampened her spirits so. She quickly said goodbye to her new friend and rose from her seat to meet her friend halfway. She decided that it was time to tell her what she had been hiding from her.

"Firondoiel." Arafangwen called out as she met her friend half way across the floor.

"I must speak to you." she said in a voice so serious that Firondoiel immedietly lost interest in all else and followed her into a private room where they could talk openly.

"He was banging on the door when I passed the closet and I let him out." Maggie continued breathlessly.

Isildae set a glass of water in front of the distraught Hobbit "I am sure someone is just playing mean tricks." he said.

"Now Primrose, let's not make a big fuss about turning in that bow. I promise if it's not returned, I'll personally see the moderators about it." Cromthal was trying to convince Prim to hand over her bow.

Her coat she had discarded, leaving it on her chair, though she didn't quite know where that was anymore. Ah well, a minor problem. Looking out towards the dance floor, she watched the couples for a few minutes, lamenting her failure to get a date. Though she wasn't sure she could dance right now, what with the floor being so squishy. Maybe she would just sit down for a while. Perhaps all that alecake hadn't been a good idea after all.

Bitterly cursing at the idiocy of wearing stiletto heels, she sank into the first chair she could find. Urgm. No, the alecake had not been a good idea. Stupid of her really. Never had reacted well to alcohol. She could feel a headache coming on. Asprin, asprin... Where was it when you needed it?

Coriel sat and looked around at all the people. She had been here for quite a while and still had talked to no one exept her friend Ainaserkewen. She was a shy girl new to barrowdowns, therefor she knew no one. So once Ainaserkewen had left to look for that handsome stranger she had been talking about Coriel was left all alone.

After a while she decided to wander around, looking at the people and what they were doing. At one point she saw Ainaserkewen with her handsome stranger but they were so engrossed in their conversation that Coriel didn't want to disturb them.

During her leasurly stroll Coriel started to softly sing to herself, as she often did when she was alone. She had been told by many people that she had a lovely melodic voice and everytime someone said this she'd always blush.

She saw many couples dancing and she stared at them wistfully, if only she weren't so shy...

Coriel noticed a mirror hanging on the wall and headed over to it. She looked into it to make sure everything looked okay. Her long forest green dress clung to her in a way that accentuated her figure and her long auburn hair flowed over her shoulders.

She wanderd some more and then realized that her legs were getting tired. Still quietly singing to herself she walked over to a soft burgandy couch and sat down, wondering where Ainaserkewen was and what would happen next...

"Great. Next time I'll have to watch myself more carefully." she thought with a sigh.
She stumbled over to the bar.
"What will you have?" asked the bartender.
"Water, thanks." she replied with a toss of her long black tresses.
As she sat back down at the table, she pondered her next move.
"Hmm lets see... I could ask someone to dance, I'm feeling a bit more merry... or I could wait for everyone to come back... or I could go look for them myself. Right now I think I'll just sit her and wait for my head to clear."

"Hello, Eärwen" replied the Saucepan Man.

He recognised the name of the young Elven maiden standing before him clad in a turquoise gown. Then recognition dawned.

"Ah! Another Quiz Room addict" he exclaimed, happy to make her acquaintance. "How do you do!"

As he spoke to Eärwen, the familiar introductory bass line of I Want You Back by the Jackson 5 started playing.

"One of my favourites," he exclaimed. "Care to dance?"

"Don't mind if I do" replied Eärwen happily.

As they reached the dance floor, Saucepan unstrung four of his saucepans, handing two to Eärwen and keeping two for himself. He then proceeded to jig up and down, crashing his two saucepans together as he danced. At first, Eärwen stared in amazement. Then, resigning herself, she shrugged her shoulders and joined him in his strange little dance, crashing together the saucepans that he had handed to her in similar fashion.

"Not at all, I enjoyed it" Eärwen replied. Then, reflecting on the curious nature of their dance, she added "Well, it was a new experience anyway."

After chatting for a while about the goings-on in the Quiz Room and the events of the Party, they eventually drfited off their own separate ways. Diamond18

After taking a record amount of time to down her orange juice, Diamond noted that it was no longer the most opportune time to be supping on citric acid. Juice is a morning drink! the well remembered oft repeated admonishment of her mother echoed in her ears, making her wonder why her head was empty enough to allow echoing. “I know,” she ascertained the reason speedily, “I haven’t had a pleasant, or even unpleasant, conversation in hours!”

She went to the bar and exchanged her empty orange juice glass for a shot of something stronger, and asked the bartender what he recommended. “I’ve got a bottle of ‘Mudwater here if you’re in the mood,” the bartended replied.

Diamond wrinkled her nose. “’Mudwater,” she intoned solemnly, “besides being the most potent alcoholic beverage known to Elves, has been known to erase system files from one’s computer. No, one should only drink ‘Mudwater if one

A) Has been double-decker-dingo-dog dared to do it.
B) Just had a traumatic emotional experience he/she/it would like to forget forever.
C) Has drunk every other drink know to men/elves/hobbits/dwaves/ents/orcs/trolls/dragons/maiar/valar/kelvar etc. and cannot get drunk on any of them anymore.
D) Is just really rather quite all-around very undeniably undoubtedly stupid.”

“What do you want, then?” the bored bartender asked.

“Give me a margarita with sugar,” Diamond decided. Then she mused (as she was wont to do), “This party is grand, and all, but I do so wish there was more to do than drink, eat, and watch others dance.”

Her drink was served to her, and she saw a likely candidate for conversation in the pot-bedecked figure of the Saucepan Man, standing shinily by the buffet. “Mirrorballs and Lava Lamps,” she ejaculated. “I’ve here for hours and haven’t exchanged blinding secrets with the Saucy Man. I simply must remedy that.”

...Alatariel made her way back to her table, and slumped down...

The newcomer walked past the vile creature at the door, having finally convinced it that there were no weapons on her person.

She sighed. "Wish I could have brought Palmon with me...but then who KNOWS what that thing would have made of her....

She looked around. There were people everywhere! Not knowing when she would ever find them, she saw a girl sitting at a table by herself, looking a bit bored. She went over.

"Um, excuse me--my name is Mimi...I'm looking for someone, maybe you could help me? "

Airerûthiel

This land was strange to her. She had not walked in Gondor before this day, and half of her wished to be back in Edoras where she belonged. But there was little choice in the matter now; she must represent Rohan as best she could. Wearing such a long flowing gown was unusual for her, and she had been worrying about falling over it or getting it caught in her stirrups for most of the journey. She knew people would stare when she rode up to the red carpet on her stallion, but she did not care what others thought of her tonight.

She spoke to Gwigwyn in the language of her people, "Stille nu, fæste." He whinnied softly as she dismounted, the folds of her white gown falling around her ankles like a waterfall of liquid snow. She tried to remember all the tips from her lessons as a young girl, but they had gone clean out of her head. Internally she shrugged and turned to one of the many guards standing around. "Would you be so kind as to find a stable for my horse Gwigwyn? I shall come and collect him at the end of the party. You will be paid handsomely for his lodgings."

The guard nodded and took the bay stallion's bridle, clicking softly to the horse as he led him away. She tried to avoid looking at him, unable to face the sorrow that was in her heart. The two of them were the best of friends; she had never been parted from her horse for much longer than a night or two. But she had to put him out of her mind now. Rohan was counting on her to make a good impression at this party, and woe betide her if she did not.

The cameras clicked away wildly as she walked up the red carpet; she could hear the crowds of onlookers whispering about her in slightly too-loud voices. They all wanted to know who she was, but she would not tell them her name under any circumstances. The photographers and reporters shouted at her so loudly she could not hear herself think. Microphones and notebooks and pens were shoved in front of her at every possible opportunity. Endless questions mixed together in her mind.

"Remove your weapons, please." She rolled her eyes and took off the belt that she wore her ancient sword Dulthasil on around her waist. Having to abandon the blade made her feel even more vulnerable and weak, more ladylike than she really wanted to be. But she knew that no-one would pay much attention to her once she was inside; she was not famous, and so was not worth taking notice of.

The bar was packed with Middle-earth residents of every kind. She walked through the crowds of happy, chatting partygoers, completely ignored as usual, and pulled up a seat at the bar. "I'll have a glass of mead, please," she said, tossing back her waves of shoulder-length dark blonde hair. Her turquoise eyes were level with the barman's as she made her order and observed the action going on around her.

Silmarien

The young woman had watched many others enter before her. She thought it interesting what lengths people went to, to smuggle in their weapons. Then again, with orc guards she didn't blame them or herself for wanting at least minimal protection. You could look at it this way; the orcs had all the weapons and the citizens and guests none. She just hoped the orcs didn't start a rebellion.

Silmarien then moved to enter, (fashionably late) and easily managed to set off the metal detectors with the mithril circlet that graced her forehead. “Its jewellery” she said as the guard tried to confiscate it. “And it’s a family heirloom so there’s no way you’re taking it off my head. But here’s my sword if you must take weapons.” The guard looked her up and down then consulted his list of pictures and names. “Alright missy, through you go”.

Lyra laughed as Rytien's sense of mystique managed to start cracking up. That was the effect of dancing the macarena! And maybe a little alcohol.
"As for the awards" she said with a smile, ignoring the Far Dareis Mai comment, for what would a treekiller know of such?, "who knows? I've been here long enough to expect the unexpected. I mean look at the Hippo!"

At the same time, before or after Lyra finished dancing with Anuion.
"Thank you" she said to him. "I should have known that all I had to do was suggest that everyone was dancing, rather than wait for other people to do it."
With a giggle she kissed his cheek- well still the air but a bit closer. "And sorry for the confusion about your name. Helka just has such a strong personality..."
Leaving him trying to figure out whether that had been a compliment, or what, she wandered off.

Shaking her head with silent laughter Lyra bumped into Manardariel.
"Hi!" she said, excitedly. "How's the party going for you?"
Laughing the two settled down for a good girly gossip. Glancing around Lyra saw Niluial, for a wonder disattached from her date. She waved her over and called "Care to join in- we're discussing dresses, couples, scandal- anything to add?"

Elentari tried to get through the crowd politely, but no one would move. "WILL YOU PLEASE GET OUT OF MY WAY BEFORE I SLAY SOMEONE!" At the mention of slay the crowd eagerly parted, allowing Elentari to pass through.

The Uruk guard gave her an edgey look. "No fighting allowed."

"Look, you have my sword, I'm not going to use my Magic because it's basically a curse. What more do you want?" said Elentari in an eerily calm voice. She turned back to Airerûthiel. "So, what have you been doing since we last met?"

I wandered over to the buffet, having forgotten my original purpose (another of my favorite pastimes...). A plate of broccoli later and I was on my way to find a seat. A corner seat looked lovely, but as I sat down I heard a voice.

"That depends. Who are you enquiring of?" she replied pleasantly.

Menelien was beginning to feel quite forlorn, as her calling for anybody she knew was futile. They were all offli... *ahem*, asleep. So she sat quietly in a corner and hoped that somebody would take notcie of her (really, the best way to get noticed) and/or ask her to dance before she had to leave for a cla... I mean, before she got too drunk to participate again. smilies/wink.gif

"Not exactly from here, but close enough. I'm from Minas Tirith, the only elf there! Or, I was the last time I checked." Lëowen told Stacey, who laughed. Excusing herself, Stacey then hurried toward the door, apparently to meet someone. Lëowen watched her go for a moment, the walked toward the table Stacey had said was hers. "I may as well stay here," Lëowen said to herself, "At least I won't get trampled here!" More guests had arrived, and there was quite a large crowd inside the hall.

Aman saw the lonely figure sitting in the corner. She searched the room with her eyes to see where Anuion was, before seeing him holding an unconcious woman and looking a little panicky. She grinned, and walked over to the woman in the corner. She had a vaguely familiar look about her, although Aman was fairly sure she had never seen her before. Odd, the amount of times that had happened in the party- it was almost as if people had got different identities, hidden behind the one they wore at the party...

"Greetings." Aman nodded to the woman, leaning against the wall beside her, and handing her a glass of punch which a wickedly grinning hobbit had assured her was not spiked. Needless to say, she was drinking it very slowly. "Having a nice time?"

"Now now, take it easy. You just passed out on the dance floor. It is a good thing that I took that fifth wine from you. You could have been puking on the floor and that would be a lot worse." Anuion smiled.

"I've been such an idiot. I'm never going to drink again."

"Now now, let us not be hasty. Just take it easy for a while. Bartender, a Pepsi and a Bacardi Breezer orange please."

Anuion gave Eladoriel her drink and sat with her for a while. The girl came a little to her senses and Anuion took his leave after gently saying goodbye. He scouted the room and found Aman leaning against a wall. He could not see the girl in front of her and walked over.

"G'day Aman, having a blast? Oh, I did not see you where talking to someone. Sorry. I don't believe we have met. My name is Anuion. Am I interrupting?"

The woman was looking at Aman closely as Aman answered.

"And I'm Amanaduial the Archer-" She was cut off sharply as the woman jumped up, clicking her fingers as if desperately trying to remember something. She seemed to be getting quite excited and was waving her punch wildly. Anuion was also looking at the woman bemusèdly, and he glanced at Aman, a little confused. Aman tried to calm the woman down. "Are you quite alright?"

"'Kidnapped!'" The woman burst out, a triumphant look on her face and she pointed her finger at Aman. The elf carefully redirected her finger to be pointing down, as the woman seemed to bearing it like a weapon of war.

"Kidnapped?" She asked, confused. But the woman hadnt said it like that, she had said it like a title.

"No, 'Kidnapped!'" The woman said again. "Dont you remember?" She frowned, then shook her head. "Neither do I actually."

Aman laughed, but not unkindly. "Must be the punch. Someone assured me that it was absolutely not spiked and how could I say such a thing. Work it out."

The other laughed, before offereing her hand, which Aman took. "Im Menelien."

Leaving Maika arguing with a half-orc over the various methods employed in "persuading" people to do their bidding, Cuthalion walked over to where Archer and Anuion stood speaking to a rather confused young woman.

He touched Archer's shoulder. "Pardon the interruption, but I've only seen you in passing. may I have this dance?" He smiled as he held out his hand to her while the strains of a Strauss waltz filled the air.

Luckily, Cahira was walking past said closet at that time. She found a spare key hanging behind a tapestry and let me out. Then we came running back in here."

Anuion saw Cuthalion walking over and ask Aman for a dance. He loved Straus and walked in the opposite direction of Cuthalion. He passed him with a quick wink and walked over to Maika. She was still arguing as he arrived.

"I tell you Orc, if you cut their legs open they will surely give in."

"Maik, give it a rest. The best way is to pull their lungs out and show them to him."

"They will die stupid."

"Only if you pull them too far." The Orc sniggered as Anuion looked with a horrified expression on his face.

"Ehm Maik, care for a dance. C. and Aman are already there. Would you like to join me?"

Maika gave in and Anuion escorted her to the table. Straus was already halfway when they started walsing. Anuion and Maika almost bumped into Cuthalion and Amanaduial. The greeted swiftly and went on their way.

"Anyone who says this party is almost over should get their brains checked. So anyway, how is your flight so far?" Anuion said during that dance.

The wals ended and Anuion bowed towards Maika.

"If C. was not here, you and Aman would both be on my arm hahahaha."

“You dog.” Maika exclaimed happily.

"Please don't hit me again. My father is still punishing me for that mirror."

"Well than maybe I should pull out your longs eh?"

"Lol Maika. You know you can do much worse things than that."

"Yeah, what an amateur is that Orc. Man, I tell you, they only know brute violence."

The two pairs where swiftly dancing across the half deserted dance floor when the DJ put up “The eye of the tiger” Almost everyone joined in and Anuion and Maika where swinging wildly. Anuion had to be careful as he almost accidentally punched one of the surrounding party people. Everybody was having a blast again. Not yet did it happen since Lyra’s second conga line.

"Alatariel my dear. You're awake! Would you care for a drink, or maybe a dance."

He held out his hand and escorted her to the dance floor.

Aman smiled at the charming young man as he held out his hand to her. He flicked his dark hair back from his face, and his handsome face was revealed. Aman wondered whether Maika knew about this. She glanced at Anuion, who sighed, then nodded

She took his hand. "It would be my pleasure, Cuthalion, my pleasure."

The man grinned at her, then led her onto the dance floor. The party was cooling down now, and several couples joined them on the dance floor. Aman looked back and saw Anuion making his way over to Maika, and smiled. She took Cuthalions right hand and they took up the dancing position for a waltz, swaying gently in time as one to the soothing music as it floated throughout the hall. After a few minutes, her hands slipped up to drape themselves behind his neck and his slid down to her waist. She smiled at him gently, then leant her head against his chest as they continued to dance, as around them the other party goers danced slowly as well, either on their own, with a date, or with a random other person who they had pulled onto the dance floor. Aman saw Anuion speaking the Maika, and saw the woman smile, then the elf did the same, and sighed happily, entirely content with where she was, her head leaning gently against Cuthalions chest.

Tin took a sip of her drink but suddenly her head swam and she began to hear voices ('GO TO BED YOUNG LADY!' and 'How many times do I have to tell you!') so she excused herself from the two ladies, 'hope to talk to you again sometime!' she said.

"You think," he said, laughing. "Well its the turn of the ladies to try and get me drunk next," he said.

Her mind flitted over the possibilities, how should they get dear Fin drunk. She was a little apalled, that she let herself get that drunk (wait till her friend at Lorien heard about this!)

Her thoughts turned back to the present, and she found herself looking back to Fin's face.
"I'm glad Fin took me. He's so incredibly charming. And handsome. Well he's an elf Lord, I suppose he'd have to be." she thought.

The music still continued soft and lulling, but the hall was coming back to life. The sun had set and the sun had risen again, the third day. “Actually, the 3 year and 3rd day”, thought Hilde as she slowly unfolded herself from the corner she had slept in (a rather slow and careful process).

Mr. Bracegirdle was already up and about, sipping tea and chatting with a few orcs near the doors to the kitchen. Hilde nodded a smiling good morning to them as she went in search for a mug of hot coffee or tea. She tried to set her goals for the day as her mind cleared, “Simply must go for a walk this afternoon and what is a party with hobbits and no springle-ring? Now, where to walk? There must be some pleasant gardens in such a grand city!” She began to think of her garden at home, hoping that Puff would remember to watch over it for her in this long absence.

Alasse had left before Rie could really get a good tale up about Don, but she was still grinning at Nuru's other comment. She pointed to Talômi, who was attempting to catch the attention of a young woman at the bar...Rie thought that she had heard her called Isilmë. A pretty girl, but Talômi wasn't talking loudly enough to be heard over all the noise, so he was, in essence, talking to himself. Rie grinned at Nuru.

"What?" said Lëowen in reply. Almost as soon as she said this, several hungry looking wolves and some orcs appeared from the shadows.

"Don't worry," said Elentari calmly. "I'm sure I can hold them off long enough for us to get back inside. Get behind me, and when I run at the, you run inside, as I'm sure you didn't think of picking up a weapon. Right, NOW!" Lëowen stood for a moment, but then followed Elentari's instructions and ran inside.

Elentari swung at a wolf, only to be bitten on her foot. "Ow, you silly wolf. You're lucky I like wolves!" Elentari ran inside. "Here you go," she said as she gave the Uruk her sword. She brushed herself down and walked over to Lëowen. "Shall we go to the bar?"

Firondoiel and Arafangwen re-emerged from their little "confrence room" and rejoined the party with Arafangwen looking greatly relived and Firondoiel slightly confused.

"I hope she dosn't think of us as strange now." Arafangwen thought in worry.

"Firondoiel, would you like to join me in a glass of orange juice seeing that 'tis quite morning now?" she asked her friend who now, more than ever deserved that specific title.

Arien
05-03-2003, 09:51 AM
After she had say hello to some people, which had taken longer than she had predicted, Arien sat herself down on a chair near the bar. Her bag swung from her hand and down to the foot of the chair and she spun round to face the bar. What to have? What to have?she thought as she looked over the drinks menu.

"I think I'll go with an ale, please," she said to the bartender.

"Ok then missy, one ale coming up..." he said then started to hum to himself. Arien looked out and surveyed the Great Hall. It was full but a few people she was expecting to come had not arrived yet, or did not intened on coming. Obviously have something better to do with their timeshe thought as she nodded to the tender and lifted the ale glass to her lips. Arien placed it down again and looked round for some more familiar faces, or new ones.

The Saucepan Man
05-03-2003, 09:57 AM
The Saucepan Man had been busying himself at the buffet table, as only one could who had been at a party for three days without having eaten. Being a fictional character (and a children's one at that) he had no need to concern himself over the more mundane aspects of life, such as personal hygiene and visits to the toilet. The necessity for such things did not exist in his world. But food was a different matter. Fortunately, the rattle of his pans had so far successfully masked the gurgling of his stomach.

Sampling the Balrog Wings, he found them somewhat insubstantial, and he balked at trying the Dragon Steak, since a very much alive Dragon continued to hover in the vicinity of the bar. So, he filled his plate instead with mushrooms (which had been freshly delivered that morning from Maggot Farm), Ithilien Po-ta-to salad, and a helping of something called Ulmo's surprise, which looked to be some variety of seafood stew.

As he tucked into his overflowing plate, a frown suddenly formed on his brow as the scoreline "West Ham-1 Chelsea-0" inexplicably popped into his head. Although it meant nothing to him, this thought depressed him greatly for some reason.

No matter, his mood was lifted back to its normal cheerful state as he saw Diamond making her way across the Hall towards him. He watched as she approached for what seemed like an age. It was almost as though they were in completely different time-zones.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress
05-03-2003, 10:09 AM
Sophia woke up and raised her head from the couch. She was a little misty as to how she got there, but she assumed that Fin must have left her there after their dance. Sophia dropped her head back down and lay contentedly staring at the ceiling. Her content, however, was short lived, as she soon began to feel very very hungry.

Standing up, Sophia trudged back into the main room. It seemed there were an abundance of crannies with couches in this hall, and Fin had placed her on a particularly out-of-the-way one. Entering the room she saw him dancing cozily with Alatariel and laughed. So she's finally awake? she thought. Good, we haven't seen too much of her. But again, distracted from the two by the buffet table, Sophia's attention was soon caught by the rattle of the SaucepanMan's outfit. Talk about flashy, she thought, he's shinier than his mirror ball! She grinned at this thought.

Reaching the buffet she went for the seafood business, and loaded her plate high, sighing with contentment. Being from Mithlond (MAINE) she was quite capable of enjoying a good lobster on occasion.

She wandered over to the Saucepan Man's table, in the hopes that he was looking for eating conversation too. Apparently Diamond was making her way over as well, but in the meantime he might care for a chat, and Diamond was fun too. Sophia pulled out a chair. "May I?"

The X Phial
05-03-2003, 10:41 AM
From her perch on the wall TheXPhly watched the party begin to wind down. The youngsters seemed to have drunk themselves into a stupor and even the most dazling outfits were beginning to fade under the weight of three days of dancing, eating, and drinking. The only exception to this seemed to be Lush who glowed like an anime glitter girl. X had no idea what anime was, but the comparison seemed somehow to fit.

Not for the first time, X was happy to have been mostly overlooked in the revelry. For one thing, with all of the huge people around she felt none too safe in the limelight. In fact, the froggish essence of a Rimbaud hovered nearby, threatening at any moment to arrive and strike. The final reason was that she was sure she wasn't cannon. Actually, she was one of the forbidden half breeds. Her father was a halfabee known as Eric and despite her best efforts she couldn't shake the hotizontal stripes of her heritage. Thankfully the lovely green outfit covered her stingish tendencies.

Looking over at Mer she commented, "I think they might actually get to the Downies soon."

The Saucepan Man
05-03-2003, 10:58 AM
Saucepan enthusiastically welcomed Diamond and Sophia as they sat down at the table.

"How did you find the seafood?" Sophia enquired of him.

"Oh, I just turned right at the Lembas" he replied cheerfully.

Sophia and Diamond groaned in unison. Diamond pointed out that that "joke" had been used once already at the party.

"Yes, I'm on a seafood diet, you know. When I see food, I eat it" Saucepan continued, oblivious to their groans.

Sophia made to poke him in the ribs, while Diamond aimed a light blow at his head with her well-thumbed book. The combined effect was a particularly melodious combination of clanks and crashes as Saucepan first ducked and then jumped. He grinned sheepishly and, glancing at his plate, quipped "Hmm, I think I must have had too much of the corn", eliciting further groans and affectionate swipes.

Nuru grinned at Rie. "Well, Alasse is dancing with Firramer, and when those two are done, I'm sure he wouldn't object."

Rie nodded. Nuru studied her friend carefully. Her hair had been done up with great care. After all, why not? Today was a special event. Nurumaiel suddenly felt a little ashamed of her own hair, just falling loose. I would have liked to do it up like Rie, she thought. Why did she think that? She silently scolded herself. What was wrong with her. Ever since she had met Rie she had become more and more interested in the mortal ways.

Firramer looked at Alasse as they danced. The music had changed now. They had hardly spoken any words but with their whirling around the Hall he felt like he had known her for a long time.

Don't think you've known her for a long time, not yet, he thought. Wait until you know her better... she might not like it if you call her Princess or Lady. She might not....

On they whirled, Firramer to shy too say anything, but wishing that something could break the silence between them.

Bragolhirwen scolded herself for not talking to Elentari before now. They were old friends, and had seen such things that most would only know in their nightmares. She had to extend even the courtesy of a brief chat with her. But there was the problem of how to clear this with Laitalathion.

"Cousin," she said, "an old friend of mine has just arrived at the party. Her name is Elentari Greenleaf, and she is an elf-witch of Rivendell. We fought alongside each other against the great spider Shelob in the tower of Cirith Ungol. Will you come and be introduced to her? I am sure she will like you, and we do not have to talk about...what happened."

Laitalathion nodded. "Bragolhirwen, my cousin, if she is friend to you, then she is friend to me also," he said. The two of them walked over to the bar, eliciting whispers and envious glances from the other party guests. Bragolhirwen knew her cousin's red-gold hair made him stand out, and she could not help feeling proud of him and pleased to be with him. Although the deed he had done was terrible, what mattered was that he was the only family she had left in the world. Blood runs thicker than water, after all, she thought.

Elentari was sitting at the bar beside a female Elf who was snoring gently. She turned as the two half-Elves approached, and smiled kindly at them. "Forgive me for not speaking to you earlier, friend Elentari," said Bragolhirwen. "May I introduce my cousin Laitalathion, son of Théomer of Ithilien and Orowethwen of Mirkwood?"

"It is a pleasure to meet you, O Star-queen," said Laitalathion, his voice dripping with honey. He knew he had to make a good impression upon this Elf, or else the chance of unlocking his past might disappear for good. She smiled at him as he kissed her hand chivalrously, and he returned the expression.

"So what have you been doing since we parted?" asked Elentari as Laitalathion went to order another round of drinks. "I am curious to hear about your life since our battle against Shelob."

Bragolhirwen thought for a minute, and then she spoke. "Truth be told, I have spent most of my time wandering the wilds of Middle-earth, searching for yet another adventure. I have not come across such a quest yet, but there is hope yet that one day a good tale will knock on my door. I grew tired of the Shire and decided to head for Rohan. A messenger on the road to Edoras told me about the party."

"And what of this cousin of yours?" asked Elentari, her eyes twinkling. "What has he spent his years doing?"

"I have not seen him since he left my father's house in the borderlands," replied Bragolhirwen. "I was only a tiny child then, and so barely recognised him when we were reunited only hours ago. But apparently he journeyed to see the Elves in the western country, and then came back east to Gondor. The guards did not let him in because his father had been accused of treason against the Steward Denethor II. He rode back west, and I know nothing of his life since then.

"But enough about me! I would like to hear what you have been doing with your life since our journey to Cirith Ungol." Laitalathion returned with a tray of drinks, and Bragolhirwen lifted down two glasses, sliding Elentari's lemon drink along the bar. "So what have you been up to?" she asked, sipping her white wine spritzer and waiting for her friend's reply.

Lyra jumped up and down. "West Ham 1, Chelsea 0!" she yelled, receiving some funny looks- and a glare from the Saucepan man. It looked very out of place on him. What am I talking about? she wondered to herself, but nevertheless it felt right.
"I'm forever blowing bubbles, pretty bubbles in the air-" she began to sing, as glasses around the room smashed in their owners' hands.

Suddenly she saw a familiar face from across the room.
"Earwen!" she called, waving madly.

"As you know," replied Elentari. "I became the Spider Slayer of Mirkwood. A grand title for me, for I have never accounted myself high in the world. How are you, darling? Love your dress. Mwah mwah" said Lyra, going for the 'Hollywood actress' style.

"Are you enjoying yourself? Had any interesting dance partners?" she asked, with a smile, grabbing a glass of punch from a server who just happened to be walking past. She sniffed it. Hmmm...smells like alcohol. Oh well! she thought, taking a gulp.

Sophia giggled at Saucepan's antics as she and Diamond tried to escape his deadly humor. She felt a little funny, so she drank two tall glasses of water as they talked and ate wondering, is it possible to be dehydrated in a Roleplay?

Saucepan cracked another evil joke and Diamond groaned. Sophia began looking around, feeling very restless. Why did she feel like she was talking with two people who weren't even there? Just then Alatariel spied her from across the room. She hurried over to the table where they all sat together and whispered something excitedly into Sophia's ear.

Her eyes widened considerably as she heard what Alatariel had to say. She cast a curious look back toward the table where Fin was sitting, chatting up Thoriel and receiving jealous looks from Chicken. Donlammenion and Niluial had joined them at the table, and were seemingly wrapped up in each other (to Sophia's very great surprise...?). Sophia gestured toward the little group, a wicked grin spreading across her features. Alatariel nodded again.

Giving an apologetic look to Saucepan and Diamond she said, "Please excuse me, it seems I have very important things to do..." They nodded agreeably, as people who are absent in spirit are wont to do, and wished her good luck in her mischief. "I will be around later, you know," she told them for good measure, "if you are."

She and Alatariel left the table, and headed for the bar, where they picked up that bottle of Mudwater that Diamond had earlier declined and headed resolutely toward the table where Fin sat, leaned back in his chair, with a confident grin on his face.

"Have a drink?" Sophia asked innocently.

Fin gave Sophia a suspicious look as she carefully kept the label of the bottle turned away from him. His eyes followed her hands as she poured out a large glass and slid it across the table to him. Fin's eyes narrowed as he looked from the glass to her angelically smiling face. He carefully slid the glass back.

Sophia laughed, exchanging a knowing look with Alatariel and Thoriel. "Don't you trust me?" she asked him playfully, procuring more glasses from somewhere. She poured one for herself and two more for the other girls.

Fin grinned, "Not after that incident with Annunfuiniel and the brown powder," he countered. Niluial and Donlammenion looked up and laughed at them. Sliding the glasses to each respective person, Sophia lifted hers and took a small sip. The Mudwater burned the inside of her mouth. She nearly gagged, but somehow managed to swallow straightfaced. This stuff must be half paint thinner! she thought. Alatariel snuggled up close to Fin's side and raised her glass.

Looking from one to the other, Fin picked up his glass and gave it a cautionary sniff. Apparently throwing caution to the wind he raised the glass and drained it. The girls winced. Fin's face contorted but he swallowed it. Wide-eyed he looked at Sophia and silently pushed his glass back over the table to her. She refilled it.

Chicken experimentally stuck his beak out toward Thoriel's glass. Thoriel swatted it away. "Don't you know that stuff'll kill you?"

Easing anonymously into a shadowy corner where he could watch the proceedings, LinGalad surveyed the party and resisted the impulse to scratch his head (having just washed and braided his hair.) There were happily chatting couples scattered about; some were dancing; some were saying more with their eyes than with their -- ah-- conversation. Some were haphazardly in custody of varying beverages.

Several rather young maidens were unceremoniously draped hither and thither in various stages of consciousness. He wondered who was looking after them and if they knew about their state of inebriation, and frowned. He decided to remain quite in control of himself in case it happened that somebody else-- er-- wasn't.

He sat back and sighed. The fellow who had been responsible for orchestrating the fine comb-and-paper solo was sitting near two ladies who groaned repeatedly. LinGalad frowned, unable to discern the cause of their pain and hoping that there was nothing distressing about the food or the drink. Worried anyway, he decided to err on the side of catioun. Besides, you never knew when someone would need an escort home from one of these gatherings. Sobriety would be his the order of the day.

He returned his attention to The Saucepan Man and decided that despite the groaning companions, he must introduce himself to the comb-and-paper songwriter/ composer. He took another look askance at the fellow's odd accoutrments, thinking that perhaps the fellow had been afraid of an eruption of drunken violence amidst the revelry, and had invented some makeshift body armor from kitchen hardware.

LinGalad nodded approvingly; in a pinch, safety mattered more than fashion. He was starting to like this fellow.

Hesitantly, LinGalad emerged from the shadows, went to the bar and bought a fruit juice with a few drops of wine for sparkle, and then headed over to where The Saucepan Man and Diamond were chatting happily.

"Greetings, and well-met," he said politely, with a slight bow to each of them, and a gentle smile. "I failed to introduce myself before. I am LinGalad of Greenwood, or Mirkwood as it was once known."

Lalaith sat in a dark corner, watching everyone dance and having fun. She held an nearly empty glass in her hand. She was slightly nervous as she knew no-one, but holding her elven stance she didn't show it and appeared to be calm and confident.

She tucked a piece of braided hair behind a slightly pointed ear and finished off her drink, enjoying the little amount of the party she had seen already.

"Well," Hiri muttered to herself, "alcoholic beverages are out. Though I'm not sure what else there is to drink." She had finally found some asprin, and her headache was rapidly diminishing.

"Hmm... The floor seems a bit more stable. Perhaps a dance is in order. Now, I only have to find a partner. Sitting attractively in this chair doesn't seem to be working though, and these heels..." Again, she regretted her descision to wear the things. Slipping one off of her foot, she eyed the shoe. "I mean, really, this thing could be a weapon. At least to the wearer..."

Anuion thought that the party was booming, but the dance floor was slowly emptying. What could he do to make it a little more worthwhile? But the answer already rang trough the dance floor.

THE MACARENA!

"Everybody in line!!!" Anuion shouted as his hands waved his hands to the beat.

And moments later everybody was standing in a square from, doing the Macarena. Anuion spotted Aman and Cuthalion a few rows back. Happily joining in. Everybody got the dancing fever for the 3 minutes Macarena. Soon after, the disco hits came pouring in and Anuion screamed along with the lines of the Beach boys.

I seem to have avoid the Red Carpet crowd." he comented as he checked his weapons; a sword, dirk, and some knives all made in the same, tarnished silver style.

After picking out a few choice deserts, he settled into a lonely, well as lonely as could be found at such a party, corner on a stool and leaned back against the wall for a snooze, waiting for the awards to start.

The stranger turned out to be her previous dance partner, and he told her that she passed out while drinking.

She swore never to get drunk again. She never had before now, and she wouldn't any more. Her smooth portion of coke glided down her throat, soothing it. When she was done, Anuion left.

She suddenly felt lonely again, and walked off to the dance floor to seek company. In a corner, she noticed someone sleeping.

"No, it can't be!" She said quietly in surprise.

She had to take four looks to finally realise that it was Menelien!
She walked over and shook her.

"Wake up, sleepyhead!"

Menelien stirred, and looked up sleepily.

"What? Who are you? What's going on? What did I miss?"

Eladoriel laughed at her friend's eager but sleepy manner.

"Come now, Menel, get up! Let's go find ourselves some conversation and some dance partners. I'm so happy I found you! I was SO bored... after passing out from getting drunk, that is..."

"Oh, I did too a while back. Not very pleasant."

"Er...Yeah."

Menelien let out a chuckle, and with that the two of them made their way through the dance floor and to the bar.

Eladoriel having woken her up and then walked away, Menelien pretending to follow her... It feels like I have turned temporarily invisible! thought Menelien. Then she realized why, upon looking down at her finger and seeing a beautiful gold ring on it. Not this trinket again! she went and deposited it onto the lap of the nearest sleeping Downer. She sat down, ordered a drink, stubbed her toe (a few times), and waited for somebody to talk to her as the strains of "Surfin in the USA!" floated over to her table. Funny to think, but, what exactly is the USA? The name sounds strangely familiar... she pondered. She still waited for somebody, hopefully a handsome man, to walk over to her table.

"Hey, Menel, let's sit here...Menel?"
She turned around, and realized that she was alone.

"Menel! Where'd you get off to now..."
Walking off, stomping angrily, she stomped on a golden knife just lying on the floor, and cried out in pain. The knife sliced right through her golden sandal.

People turned and stared, and some ran over to help her.

She could now see Menelien, barely disturbed, drinking more and more alcoholic beverages. She was now the only one undisturbed.

Ack! She's drunk. No wonder. Gotta get her away from that alcohol.

Eladoriel then remembered about the cut on her foot, and realized that the pain was still edging through her nurves.

She suppressed another scream, and the result was the start of crying. She just sunk down on the floor, forgetting that there were people crowded around her, watching...staring.

After making her way ever so slowly across the room in a mode that was reminiscent of a Baywatch spinoff series titled “DenimBandedDiamondPlatedWristwatch”, Diamond picked up a giant soft-pretzel covered in sugar and cinnamon, and sat down at The Saucepan Man’s table. They had a rousing good one-way conversation for a time, and then Sophia joined them. The Saucepan Man dazzled them with his catalogue of bad puns (not to mention his oft mentioned shiny accoutrements). Diamond groaned at the terrific awfulness of the word play, and rewarded him with a booking or two all the while.

Sophia eventually could not stand the magnificence of Saucepan Man’s poor paronomasia, and got up to work mischief in other quarters. Along came a Mirkwood Elf by the name of LinGalad, who politely introduced himself and begged for the pleasure of listening to the witty dialogue.

Diamond was momentarily distracted as she noticed Sophia filching a bottle of ‘Mudwater to feed to her unsuspecting (well, maybe he was a little suspicious) friend Fin. Diamond watched in anticipation for the fainting spell which usually occurred, but was flummoxed to see the Elf Lord down three glasses of the nocuous liquid with a few debonair devil-may-care gulps. “Amazing,” she murmured under her breath. “I’ve seen grown Elves and Men and Half-Elves and Half-Men become temporary amnesiacs at the mere sniff of the stuff!”

These manly (or I should say, elfy) drinking heroics became dull after a moment or two, however, and she turned her attention back to her tablemates.

“I’m quite glad you joined us, LinGalad,” The Saucepan Man said with a snicker, obviously enjoying his day in the sun before the most anticipated arrival of Stephanos "The Punwraith Fugitive" Rimbaud. Then it occurred to Diamond that perhaps Rimbaud’s absence did indeed have something to do with justice finally catching up with him. (For anyone who changes names at the drop of a frogleg does indeed deserve to be detained by grey-clad men and beaten soundly with flaming trout).

“Thank you, I’ve been lurking for a while,” LinGalad explained, bringing Diamond's wandering mind back to the sort-of present, “but it’s nice to mingle for a change.”

“Eh?” Saucepan cupped a hand to his ear. “You say you need change for a single?”

Diamond groaned, then turned in her chair, so that the radiance from her diamond-studded mithril necklace would bounce off the mirrorball into his pans and up into his eyes, just so. He winced, wondering why sitting with Diamond always had to be so painful.

At that moment the magically changing music changed once again, and over the speakers blared Third Eye Blind singing, Blinded, quickly followed by Manfred Man belting out Blinded By the Light and so and so and so forth, till every song that had ever been written that dealt with loss of sight had played. This didn’t take as long as you’d think.

As Fin got progressively drunker, Sophia continued to sip at her glass of Mudwater. Apparently the stuff was not an aquired taste, for three quarters of the way to the bottom of the glass she was still as disgusted as after the first sip. Her tongue burning, Sophia noticed the room beginning to slide out of focus. Wah! The bartender was right! This is some potent stuff!

She watched Fin and Chicken spar over Thoriel for a minute or two before slurring gently. "Hey, sir... hello." Fin looked up surprised. "I'm over here!" she said, feeling somewhat silly. Fin raised his eyebrows as though she'd just told him something he hadn't expected to hear.

"You are." he observed brilliantly. "Right over there!" and pointed at her. "Want to come over here?" he asked absently.

After a long moment of consideration Sophia nodded. The chair on Fin's left was empty, and she wandered over to it, taking rather longer than necessary. She sat down, and rested her head on his shoulder. She looked around the room again. "What's that Chicken trying to do to Thoriel?" she asked Fin, in a tone of great concern.

"Oh, you know... this and that." he replied. She was greatly relieved to hear this and snuggled closer to his shoulder.

Unbidden, a minstral wandered into the party. The music hushed as if by some unseen power. He quietly tuned his strings, as the crowd only slowly registered his existence. A wave of quiet preceeded him, though here and there drunken guests continued their revelry unaware of the mysterious visitor.

The world of men shall never know
the life of a prince of elves.
Ambition human princes show
Their battles lost, their victories won!
But the elven prince is little more
than just another father's son.

The world of men shall never see
the life of a prince of elves.
Yes, kings, our princes plan to be
Their fortunes great, their troubles small!
But immortal son, he never dreams
to rule his father's realm at all.

The world of men shall little heed
the death of a king of elves.
A price too high for noble seed
His immortal father, through chance is dead.
And in a cruel, double blow
unbidden kingship bows his head.

As the spell breaks, the guests who were near, and sober enough to hear, glance about -- and the Uruk-hai appeared to throw him out… but the minstrel was nowhere to be found.

Iarwain snapped out of his trance-like reverie instantly at the sound of the beautiful music that had just been sung. He looked about him for Goldberry, but no doubt she was wandering elsewhere, perhaps even back home. It seemed a thousand years, or perhaps only a few seconds, since he had last taken notice of the people around him. Almost drunkenly he stumbled around to the nearest group of people, which turned out to be Diamond18 and the Saucepan Man. He was just about eo enquire Saucepan about the finding of that magical pot when a blinding flash of light filled him with thoughts of starlight at the world's beginning. This flash was, of course, from Diamond's exquisite diamond studded mithril necklace. Suddenly Iarwain broke out in a merry laugh, saying:
"That's quite a pretty toy, m'lady! It brings me back to the days of youth when first mighty Isil brought his face up above. There was battle in the heavens in those days..." and with that he sank back into thought, perhaps to wander through that vast memory for an age more.

"That depends. Who are you enquiring of?" she replied pleasantly.

"Um...." Mimi tried to think of the description she had been given. "Well, a rather large group, actually..." she realized then how silly that sounded in this place.

"Um...a human woman, three hobbits...an Elf lord...what was his name...El--Elrond...and a boy in a--erm--well, a hovering chair of sorts...he's a paraplegic. "

Mimi blushed a little, realizing how absolutely ridiculous this sounded.

"I believe that the party needs some lighting up. How about it. I think the time is ripe for our little sceem."

Anuion rubbed his hands.

"Oh boy, Bethberry is going to skin me alive hehehehe." He thought to himself.

Trenton stroked his fine embroidered vest and sauntered towards the bar, giving one of the hobbit dancers a lascivious smile. But he already had what he came for: he fanned himself playfully with the sought after Shire phone number. He leaned over over the short shield-maiden in the horn-rimmed glasses; uncharacteristic for a shield-maiden, she was hurriedly scribbling notes. (Most of that type couldn't read.)

"Well, now. Having fun are we?"

"I have seventeen scrolls of notes -- already." The shieldmaiden shoved her glasses back up her nose, looking harried.

Rytien, once again eating, sat at a table and watched the people waltzing. She always checked out the couples so she could sneer in disgust. Then Maika dancing with Anuion danced by. She looked...happy!? How the heck could she be...well, Rytien was only seeing Helka's view on the situation... Rytien shook her head. As the waltz ended, she finished her grilled salmon and rose to find Anuion. But, as he moved into view doing the macarena, she sat down again. She stared at the floor for the song. She didn't want to risk a glance in case Anuion was in her line of sight. She could just imagine him doing the macarena, and that made her stomach turn.

Once again, when the song ended, she rose, only to find the stupid elf yelling along to a Beach Boys song. She hoped he only knew the first verse, but then he started on the second. Rytien couldn't take it anymore and she stalked over to him. But, before she could get to him he found her and dragged her off to a corner or something.

"I believe that the party needs some lighting up. How about it. I think the time is ripe for our little sceem."

"Sure, elfy boy, but try to spell 'scheme' right from now on. Now, stop rubbing your hands together, it's disturbing. Anuion's hands fell to his side. "Okay. What exactly do you have in mind. When we talked before, you really didn't come across very well. Tell me again what you had in mind, and I will improve upon it."

Isilmë was just having a most enjoyable chat with Talômi as she suddenly heard a double peep coming somewhere near. It took her couple moments to realize that the peeping was actually coming from her. This realization caused Isil firstly to blush once more and secondly to start a rash rummage through her hems. Finally she reached her phone and saw an icon implying she had received one message. Apologizing she turned away from her companion and read:

Dear Isil, how's the party doing? Here:total chaos!Anna killed off my mouse and Andy did the same to the internet connection.Kids...

The peeping sound was repeated right after Isil had finished reading the first text.

Still it's shame they're leaving tomorrow!I'll miss them deeply.Though I hope to make it back to the party then...See U!~A

Isil grinned recalling The Saucepan Man's pan-dance but shivered as her mind shifted to the horror picture of people Doing the Macarena. 'If you only knew, Annunfuiniel...' Then she composed a concise note:

Dear Annun!Quite a lot is going on but be certain I'll give you a full report as you return.Hope to see you soon.-Isil

After this minor incident Isil turned back to Talômi, gave him one of her most charming smiles, and their conversation went on.

Suddenly, the “shieldmaiden” felt a tug at her leather skirt. She looked down and saw a Hobbit hiding underneath the bar, with eyes as wide as saucepans, but not nearly as shiny (for she had most certainly not been drinking!) The Hobbit looked weary, and she spoke in a frightened whisper, “I came to this party because I was told a woman in a breastplate wanted to give a donation to the Garden Club, or something of that sort. Are you the one who wanted to talk to me?”

“Well, I…” Maril began nervously.

The Hobbit interrupted her hastily, “Please! I have been hiding here for three days, watching the most flagitious display of drunken wantonness imaginable. I have thus far eluded capture, but I fear in the depths of my heart that if I am discovered, I will be forced to drink ‘Mudwater and dance on the bar in shoes!”

“What is you name?” Maril asked suspiciously.

“Lousewort Chastitybelt, Secretary of the Garden Club. And I must be getting home soon, for I’ve left my husband Oleo alone for three days, and who knows what harm has come of my absence!”

Staring around Lyra spotted the disappearing Stryker.
"Aha" she said, going over to him. "No running off this time, sonny jim. You're dancing with me whether you like it or not"
Then she grabbed his hand, and despite her diminutive stature physically dragged him onto the dance floor. As they danced she saw Rytien and Anuion plotting in the corner. She knew what Rytien looked like being evil and she definitely was.

Ignoring them, Lyra asked Stryker "So, how do you like the BDs? Where are you from?"

Anuion punched the girl back and took her aside once more.

"Listen, Beth seemed to be dozing of. Ill just go over to the shed and act as bait. Afterwards, you nick some arrows and hide them underneath the table with the Balrog wings. We will just set it off from under there. I wonder if those Balrog wings will fly hehehehehehe. Well then, off we go."

Before Rytien could say anything, Anuion walked carefully over to the shed. He waited for Bethberry to turn her back to him and he ran over to the shed. With a pin from his pocket he started to pick the lock. He managed to get it open, but still no sign from Bethberry. Anuion decided to push his luck and set one foot across the doorstep.

"Anuion son of Helkahothion! What on Middle Earth do you think you are doing? If I capture you stealing any fireworks, I will hang you from your ears you little rascal!"

"That is some tongue you got there Bethberry. I did not know you where such a fierce vixen." Anuion said while hinting Rytien.

"You don't trick me Anuion. You are the same bandit as that father of yours. Yes I do know Helkahothion. He has trashed up many threads with of-topic posts. Although he has apologized for that. Now get out of the shed."

"Listen Beth, it is not what you think. It is just that I wanted to test it for its safety and check if the guard was capable of its duties. I had not much of a doubt of course of you capability, but I thought I might just do it just in case."

"You talk swiftly Anuion. But how come I don't believe you?"

"You don't believe me? I'm just trying to be nice. How about I buy you a drink eh? Come on. One drink won't hurt. Come on. Let's go to the bar eh?"

As Anuion was trying to divert the attention from Bethberry, Rytien was already at her post and took action.

Thoriel pushed Chicken off her once again, she wasn't quite sure what his intentions were and she doubted that Chicken himself knew either. Her brain was a little fuzzy from the Mudwater, she couldn't for the life of her remember what possessed her to drink so much of it, her throat was still sore from it. She could only think that she really needed a glass of water right now, so she looked over towards Fin and asked him to dance. That wasn't what she'd wanted but she supposed it would have to do, they could dance their way over to the water.

Fin accepted Thoriels request to dance and so had Sophia, much to Thoriel's surprise. All three of them got up and went for their partner to dance, there was a small jumble around until away from the table danced Thoriel and Sophia with Fin swinging Chicken around close behind.

What in the hell am I doing, Rytien thought as she walked carelessly toward the shed so as to arouse no suspicion. She stopped against the wall near it, waiting for Anuion to move away from the shed, leading Beth. She then leaned against the shed and casually pulled open the already unlocked door. Wouldn't you know Anuion would have a hair pin... She slipped in, looking for the 'arrows' Anuion had talked about. She settled for a few long tubular things in reach. They had points on the end, so Anuion was dim enough to automatically call them that.

Smoothly coming out of the shed as carelessly as she had gone in, she closed the door quietly and went back to leaning against it, the 'arrows' held against her back. Rytien switched the three of them into one hand and used the other to lock the door again. With the fireworks still behind her back she slid across the front of the shed, around the side, then, once she reached the wall, she darted to a nearby table, ducking underneath the long table cloth. Examining Anuion's so-called arrows and wondering how the heck the plan had worked, she waited for him to stop yelling back and forth with Bethberry.

Isilmë felt a bit dizzy. Just a moment ago she had had the weirdest feeling - it was as though she was only a puppet on a string and somebody else was pulling the cords! It all had started, when she had got a couple of messages from her friend Annunfuiniel.

Oh well, she was probably just too tired. But still, something else seemed to be wrong, too... Talômi had been sitting silently beside her for what seemed like several hours! What is this new devilry? Isilmë thought to herself. I'd better rest a little. And with that she closed her eyes and - to Talômi's utter surprise - fell fast asleep...

Wherever he was, it was dark, and he could make out the farmiliar shapes of shovels and rakes around him.

"Looking at you is more than enought reason to lavish you with gifts" he said

The carriage pulled off and the two elves held each other, looking up at the stars through the carriage window.

Anuion bought Bethberry a glass of wine and talked to her for a few minutes so he would not act suspicious. After 5 minutes, he ditched Bethberry and went over to the table with the Balrog wings. He saw Lyra standing alone and winked at her.

"Just give me a minute Lyra, I have to take care of some business." Anuion said to her and he ducked under the table.

"I got them. These the ones you wanted?"

"Oh yeah. Good job. Here, I got a box of matches. I thing that if we tie them to the insides of the table paws, it will send the table skywards. Yeah like that. Good job. Okay here is your match. Got it? Okay three...two.... one blast of!

Underneath the table, a large fire started. Sparks shot from under the table and everybody backed away. In the rumours Anuion and Rytien crawled from underneath the table and joined the group that had formed around the table. Anuion stood next to Lyra.

"What on earth did you do this time?" Lyra exclaimed.

"Absolutely nothing Lyra. Oh look the table is moving."

With a loud shrieking noise, the table started to jet upwards. It flew high into the hall and the Balrog Wings where scattered across the room. Just when it was about to crush into the ceiling,

BANG BOOM KALBANG!!!!

the arrows exploded into a gigantic beautiful fireworks display. Everybody had their mouths open as the beautiful stars coloured the ceiling yellow, red, blue and purple. Two minutes later, it was over. Anuion looked at Rytien and they both laughed. Anuion escorted Lyra to the bar and ordered them both a cool relaxing drink.

Before they had a chance to determine the cause of their downfall, Fin tripped over Thoriel and landed on top of them, with a loudly squawking yellow chicken fluttering down atop the lot. "Mmm..." said Thoriel, in obvious discomfort.

"Er..." said Sophia in total confusion. Just then the fireworks exploded and the room was filled with green blue and orange stars. At this point in the recitation, Menelien could have sworn that she heard

Pehaps she was a bit tipsy herself, she thought, as Gimli slid to the ground. In fact, she was feeling so out of it that she merely glanced at him, said "Who the hell?", and ran off to join the conga chain. Mabe somebody not all that tipsy would ask her to dance... smilies/wink.gif

Wiping her mouth Sophia finished the second shot dead last. She set the glass down shakily, not being nearly this heavy a drinker usually. She silenced her liver's uneasy protest and followed the group back to their original table.

They all slumped down back into the chairs and noticed that Alatariel was still sitting there, her head down on the table. Sophia gazed at her for a while, trying to sort out what had put her to sleep. After a while her eyes lighted on the empty glass and the nearly empty bottle of Mudwater beside it. Sophia suddenly understood. Alatariel let out a weak snore.

She turned her attention back to the awakened group. Chicken was looking cozy in Thoriel's lap and she was lazily petting him, while gazing at her empty shot glass wondering where all the whisky had got to.

Fin, apparently jealous of Chicken and Thoriel's cozy arrangement, put his arm around Sophia's shoulders and pulled her closer. She flopped limply into his lap and lay there, looking up at him, and past him at the ceiling, vaguely wondering if anymore fireworks were going to go off.

Fin spoke from somewhere above her, and she felt his hands gently tugging on her hair. "I'm afraid your flowers have been smashed, my dear." Sophia giggled, reaching up to the top of her head and pulling down one of the crushed red blossoms. She stared at it giddily before handing it back up to him. He moved his hand to take the flower from her, but she frowned and caught it back. Pulling it down to her mouth she kissed it lightly. "That's mine." she slurred.

"This party has been great so far," she murmured.
"Yeh, it has," he agreed.

He looked around the table. Alatariel was still sleeping. Chicken was also asleep, his head on Thoriel's lap. She sat there dozing, making sure she didnt crush him.

"I'm glad you came," he said, "it wouldn't have been the same without you." She beamed with happiness.
"For one thing," he continued, "we wouldn't have found Chicken!"
She slapped him playfully, "is that all I'm worth?"

When she finally arrived, she had the cloak wrapped tightly around her with the hood up, she was now wet and very cold. Shivering she went to the bar, to get something warm to drink. "A Lorien slammer" she shouted across the bar, the bar man slid the small shot across the bar to her she caught it and downed it in one go, she felt the drink slowly warming her insides She slid the glass back "another please", the bar man smiled and poured her another. Feeling warmer now she pushed back her hood and her long dark hair fell about her shoulders, some of the Elanor flowers around her head were now slightly crushed.

She took her glass and turned around to see who was about tonight.

An explosion rocks the hall, and multi-colored fireworks light up the walls in odd colors. A giant magenta mushroom cloud billows upward, and a few extremely drunken hobbits squeal with joy. Everyone is silent for a moment. Then an elf hiccups.
"DO THE WAVE!" I screech in my loudest voice, which is heard by two people.
"Pardon me, were you speaking?" one enquires.
"Never mind. I'm off to the bar to see about some Balrog Wings...I wonder if they have Buffalo style?"

They do! So I nibble at those listlessly and look around. The only person I recognized was the Saucepan Man...he was humming on his comb while a woman beat time on his shoulder-pot.

Several couples are dancing...it's quite mushy really.
"Yo, barkeep! Can I get a some graham crackers and apple juice?"

Sophia the Thunder Mistress
05-03-2003, 06:21 PM
Sophia lay back, and sighed, letting her arms drop from around Fin's neck. The wine had been sweet, and her date was sweeter, and Sophia was very drunk. Fin smiled drowsily, still playing with her hair, and Sophia wondered what had made her let go of him after all. She lifted her arms back up (a tremendous effort) and pulled his face down, kissing him again, longer this time.

When she let go, Fin straightened up. "How about a nap, then?" he asked, still slurring. Sophia nodded absently, but then a stray thought drifted into her head. I am now positioned just like the unfortunate HerenIstarion was yesterday... I am going to need a very talented chiropractor after this.

She looked up at Fin and hiccuped. "Fin, love... I can't sleep here. I'll be permanently pretzel shaped." He laughed softly.

"I'll see what else I can find then." He replied, scooping her up and carrying her into the multiple coat rooms. A quick glance about revealed very few abandoned couches. One in a drafty corner near the door seemed conveniently vacant and Fin set her down on it gently. As he went to sit down beside her he stubbed his toe hard on the bottom of the couch.

Sophia's eyes shot open. Apparently she was drunker than she thought, for she was suddenly tossed high in the air, amid the sounds of Fin cursing in a loud voice. But, no, upon landing she realized that it was merely that Fin's kick had caused the sofa to unfold into a camp bed with a lumpy mattress. Sophia bounced once or twice, and then curled up snugly on the bed, falling nearly immediately asleep.

Fin looked at her for a minute, and laughed, before crawling up beside her and going to sleep himself. Someone, he thought, has to keep her warm with all these drafts. He put his arms around her, and I think that someone is me.

After a long conversation, Arafangwen and Firondoiel returned to their table. Where Menelien and Gimli were sitting. Both were somewhat tipsy. "Hello guys." Firondoiel greeted her two friends. "Hello *hic* Firon-*hic*-doiel." Menelien greeted back. Firondoiel raised her eyebrows and decided not to comment on Menelien's state. Firondoiel and Arafangwen then took their seats and proceeded to eat their evening meal.

Tinuialwen had been fast asleep on the couch when and enourmous explosion jolted her out of it. The fireworks had rocketed up to the ceiling and burst into different colours followed by a few laughs from the crowd below.

Tin rubbed her eyes and got up. The party was getting even more lively but Tin still hadn't had a dance yet. She walked over to the bar where lots of elves and hobbits alike were knocking back drinks. The bar keeper walked over to her and asked what she wanted and looking up and down the bar she replied, 'A vodka thanks'

The bar keeper poured her a glass and Tin first took a small sip and then, before she had even set the glass back down, she took a big gulp and began to laugh for absolutely no reason. (Tin really isn't used to alcohol smilies/wink.gif)

Her ears still ringing from the noise of the impromptu firework display, Eruanna made her way over to the recently replenished buffet table.

Platters of food agreeable to every species in Middle earth were in evidence upon the groaning tables. To one side she noticed a Gondorian Soldier's helmet, it was filled with ice and three bottles of champagne, unopened nestled inside. The dark-haired elf turned her attention to the victuals. Hmmm.....perhaps she would try some spicy balrog wings, they looked delicious. Putting some onto her plate, she added a spoonful of po-ta-to salad.

Carefully holding the plate in her right hand and cradling a bottle of Dom Perignon in the crook of her left arm, she made her way to a vacant chair on the edge of the dancefloor. Perhaps she would find someone to share the champagne?

She downed her second Lorien slammer and turned back to the barman to ask for another, but he was already there pouring her drink. she smiled and told him just to leave the bottle, "are you sure, it's a mighty powerful drink you know" the barman grinned. "not for an elf, not for an elf my friend" she laughed. laughing he went to serve someone else.

Nerindel turned back to the party, but people were starting to drift off. the music on the dance floor was getting softer. "hmm" she snorted "I've missed the fun again"

Balrog wings are getting kind of old, I think I'll get some lembas instead, he thought. He scooped some onto his plate, then he walked over to a table. Checking under it, to make shure that he wouldn't step on anyone, he sat down.

After finishing his lembas, he got up to look for someone to talk to.

Tin saw another elf at the bar getting a whole bottle to herself. Tin nodded to her and raised her (third) glass to her before she drank it all down and slammed it back onto the table. 'Another thanks mister...' She said to the barman who poured out another glass.

An elf had just gotten up from a table and seemed to be alone so Tin got up, with her drink in hand, and walked over to him.
'Hi there, I'm Tinuialwen...' She said smiling but the drinks had definitely taken an effect on her and she wobbled as she tried to stand up straight.

Trippo returned from his whereabouts, that will remain unknown. He sat down next to Menelien's lifeless body. He hoped that she, and him would both have life in there bodies at the same time. For he still owed her a dance, and was gonna get it one way or the other.

Eruanna struggled slightly to work the cork from the bottle of champagne. Finally, there was a loud *POP* and it flew up into the air with such force that it missed the sparkling mirror ball by a mere whisker!

Glancing over to the bar she noticed another elf maiden, who smiled and raised her glass in greeting before draining it then slamming it back down onto the bar and demanding a re-fill. Eruanna raised the bottle in salute and watched as the elf maid went over to a table; walking in the careful, deliberate fashion adopted by people who are trying to disguise their slightly inebriated state.

Pulling up the collar of her coat she shivered slightly as a cool breeze blew across the room, she could have sworn she felt dampness in the air....darn it, her hair would frizz!

Child of the 7th Age

Cami was having a difficult time following the party. She'd mislaid several of her posts, along with the friends she'd been speaking to, and had no idea what had happened to any of them.

The party thread itself seemed to be expanding at a truly prodigious rate. Cami had never seen anything quite like this on the Downs. She vaguely remembered something that Mithadan had once told her. When threads on the Downs reach twenty pages, they are apt to lay down and die. Cami wondered if there was an admin to close off this thread and open another. At the rate things were going, they would hit the magic "twenty" sometime tomorrow.

But the hobbit's quiet reverie came to an end with the onset of the impromptu fireworks' display. Helka, what have you done? Cami moaned. For there was now a large hole in the middle of the ceiling. And since it was starting to thunder and storm outside, the rain had begun seeping into the Hall, at first sprinkles but then picking up until there were buckets pouring in. Beads of water ran down her neck and head, as she stood in the Hall drenched and miserable.

Cami managed to send a passenger pigeon over to the absent Mithadan (no cell phone for her!), apprising him of their desperate situation. She then set out to find the party responsible: Anuion, son of Helkhahothion, a fellow she liked from the Green Dragon who'd always shown a considerable amount of spunk.

Standing in the middle of the hall with an umbrella perched daintily over her dripping head, Cami fixed a stern eye on the culprit.
"Helkha,.....er, Anuion, you're in trouble. Not only did you steal fireworks, but also words from Bethberry's mouth.... Plus, there's all this mess you made in the Hall." She pointed upward at the prominent hole through which rain was coming in pelting sheets.

"If I had my way, I'd call over the Orc guards and have you dragged off to the Lockholes in the Shire to spend time thinking about your miserable misdeeds. But to tell the truth, I don't trust those security guards. Ending up as lunch in an Orc's stomach does seem like a harsh punishment."

"So this is what I've decided. I expect you to present yourself at the Green Dragon or the White Horse next week after the party, and spend some time washing dishes. Someone is going to have to fix this mess, and you'll need to earn the money to pay for that!"

With that she turned, and scurried for the edge of the room, which was a bit more sheltered from the raucous winds and rain. She was desperately hoping that some more adventurous partygoer would get up to the ceiling and cover it with a tarp.

The Saucepan Man
05-03-2003, 08:00 PM
The Saucepan Man, Diamond and LinGalad had been surprised enough when the table at which they were sitting had started crackling and spluttering. But surprise turned to utter amazement as the table let off a worrying *bang*, shot into the air and exploded in a shower of yellow red and purple, not to mention green blue and orange, stars. The sound of the fireworks drowned out the kitchen-related cacophony as Saucepan, together with Diamond and LinGalad were propelled backwards by the force of the rocket-powered table.

As they lay on the floor, covered in soot and watching the rainbow coloured display slowly fading above them, Saucepan turned to his companions and quipped "I knew that I shouldn't have had the rocket salad".

Neither Diamond nor LinGalad were in any particular mood to groan. That was a mistake since, taking their silence as a sign of encouragement, Saucepan ventured "Well, I suppose that's what you might call a power lunch."

Warming to his theme, he continued "I hadn't realised that we were sitting at the High Table ... Perhaps, it was ..."

"One more of those bad jokes buster, and I'll ram that kettle where the mirrorball don't shine" hissed Diamond, her composure finally returning.

There was no trouble with Saucepan's hearing this time as his mouth quickly snapped shut. Standing up and dusting themselves down, they surveyed the smoking area where their table, plates and drinks had been.

"I'm beginning to wonder whether lurking in the shadows might have been the safer option" the Greenwood Elf murmured.

As they moved away from the carnage, Trippo the Hippo, who had reappeared, offered them a seat.

“No, I don’t want your feet” replied Saucepan, winking at him mischievously.

Finding an empty table, they sat down again, having carefully checked underneath to make sure that there were no explosive surprises or pranksome party guests hidden there. To calm their nerves, Saucepan took out the paper and comb that he had borrowed from Eruanna earlier and began to hum the theme from Monty Python. LinGalad looked on in amusement as Diamond (for reasons of plot continuity) picked up a wooden spoon and began to beat time on Saucepan's shoulder-pot.

The song finished, and the musicians acknowledged the thunderous applause with gracious nods. The Saucepan Man was still vibrating with a sound like a thousand tuning forks dancing in the rain, but he managed to rise and bow to the rapturous audience (who were so rapturous they didn't even realize it).

There was a most interesting time warp in here. Just as Silmarien entered a great many things happened. Now, suddenly, it was a day later with rain pouring though a hole in the roof, made by fireworks going off and an impromptu band jamming in the corner and she hadn’t even had a drink yet.

‘Ah, well’ she thought ‘nothing to do but join in the fun’. She skipped across the room in her blue and silver dress and joined another girl to dance under the rain pouring in through the roof.

She then launched into song. “I’m singing in the rain, just singing in the rain. What a glorious feeling I’m happy again. I’m dancing in the rain... (ect)

Happily, they saw that Iarwain too had escaped the conflagration and was sitting nearby lost in thoughts of the River-Woman's daughter and the Forests of the Beginning of Time.

Remarking that he truly was an enigma, the comb-humming, pan-beating trio, having drawn much confidence from their rapturous reception, launched into an energetic version of the Monkee's Pleasant Valley Sunday, with LinGalad joining Diamond Dolenz in the staccato percussion, followed by everyone's favourite double-drumming classic, Adam and the Ants' Kings of the Wild Frontier. Never before (and quite possibly never again) had a paper, comb and saucepan combo sounded quite so compelling.

Looking up, they noticed that several of the party-goers had drifted away from the dance floor and were now dancing nearby instead. They also noted the DJ glaring angrily at them. Hastily, therefore, they drew matters to a close and smiled apologetically back.

"You've missed quite a bit of merriment my dear, and indoor fireworks!"

Lëowen blinked. A moment ago, the table in front of her had been occupied by a few elves and a chicken. Everything had been quiet and normal. Now, there was no table, and there was a gaping hole in the ceiling, which was wreathed in smoke.

"I must have been caught in an inter-dimensional worm hole," Lëowen told no one in particular. The she noticed that rain was pouring through the hole in the ceiling. Moving to avoid the unpleasent wetness, she walked back to the bar.

"Soda please," she told the bartender. "If I can't get drunk, I'll just be really, really hyper instead!" she said cheerfully, dumping half a bowl of sugar into her drink. Still smiling, she emptied her glass and headed back towards the dance floor.

But now I must excuse myself, as I am feeling rather sooty, and my necklace needs a good polish. Don't worry, I'll be back!"

Suddenly a spine tingling scream of "Derry Doll you've left me!" left everyone fearing that old Iarwain had become possessed by a Barrow-Wight. This, however, was merely an unfortunate side effect of the old enigma being unwillingly awoken from his state of comatose thoughtfulness. Soon the turrets would kick in. For the sake of the reader, this narrator will skip over the violent spasm of Bombadillic profanity to the point when Iarwain was sitting cross legged on the floor surrounded by the remains of several tables and a few dozen ruined chairs, and a fifteen foot radius of terrified Elves, Men, Hobbits, Dwarves, Chickens, and Hippos. They feared that the rain pouring onto his head would cause another outburst, but their trepidation was slightly assuaged when Iarwain began to repeat wildly in an almost psychotic manner "Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow", until he became red in the face and passed out onto the floor. The crowd relaxed once more, and closed back in, careful not to disturb him again.

A sudden shout of "Derry Doll you've left me!" attracted Lëowen's attention. A psycotic, quite crazy-looking guest sat cross-legged on the floor, in the rain. "Hmm, another crazy person. That makes, uh, more than one today! Right... I need to find someone to talk to." "Looks like things have changed a bit since I left" thought The Phantom, staring up at the empty space where part of the ceiling had been before. He walked directly underneath the opening on the way to the table, and despite the heavy rain pouring in from the outside there was not a drop of water to be found on his clothing or skin upon his emergence from the downpour.

He took a seat next to Gimli and called for a few drinks. He sat there for some time, quite lost in his own thoughts. He was brought out of his daze upon hearing Elektra Made Me Blind, one of his favorite tunes. He couldn't help but give a small chuckle. He was drinking everclear to the sounds of Everclear. How appropriate.

His dinner companions were all passed out with their heads resting on the table. All of them were smiling. "Looks like they're enjoying themselves" he thought. "It's really too bad that I'm immune to drunkenness" he mumbled, downing an entire bottle of straight liquor and placing it beside thirty or so empty bottles of various alcoholic beverages. "I wouldn't mind a nice drugged sleep right now."

The Phantom, greatly desiring deep sleep, but unable to slow his thoughts down enough to obtain it, could see no other alternative. He drew out an extraordinarily heavy club and hit his forehead as hard as he could. "Ahhhhh" he sighed as he lost consciousness.

The Saucepan Man
05-03-2003, 10:08 PM
The Saucepan Man and LinGalad watched Diamond disappear towards the powder room.

“An appropriate destination for one covered in powder” commented Saucepan, eliciting a half-hearted smile from LinGalad.

Saucepan had enjoyed himself immensely, despite the battering that his best party pans had taken. Fortunately, they were still in fairly good shape although he noted ruefully how dirty they were, what with his earlier scrabbling around under the stage in search of the Feastpot and the gunpowder stains resulting from their recent table-raising experience. He removed from one of his pots some polish and a linen cloth and sat there polishing his outfit as he talked with LinGalad. Shortly after a quite vigorous outburst from Iarwain, which fortunately resolved itself as suddenly as it had started, a young Elven lady walked over and introduced herself as Lëowen.

They conversed happily for a while until Saucepan, his pans restored to their pristine state, decided that he needed to take a breath of fresh air. He took his leave of his companions and made for one of the side exits. Opening the door, he stepped out and into the gardens beyond. It was not long before a strange growling sound reached his ears. Absent-mindedly, he rubbed his stomach, but then recalled that he satisfied his hunger quite recently. With mounting concern, he strained to locate the source of the disconcerting noises.

Suddenly, and quite unexpectedly, an enormous beast sprang out from behind a nearby bush, landing only feet to the side of the metal-clad man. Another appeared at the top of the slope to which he had been heading and prowled menacingly towards him. Despite the fact that they resembled neither Hyenas nor Lemmings, Saucepan recognised them as Wargs. Their eyes glinted evilly in the dim lights scattered about the garden as they hungrily looked him up and down.

“Looks like we’ve found ourselves some tinned food here, son” remarked one to the other, his enormous canine jaws opening to reveal lines of unfeasibly large and jagged teeth.

Saucepan quickly decided that he did not really need to take the air after all and turned back to the door, only to see two burly Uruk guards barring the way and grinning in anticipation of the sport that was to follow. Summoning up all the resolve that he could, which was not much given the circumstances, Saucepan untied from his garb a hefty iron frying-pan and a solid steel saucepan and stood there with one implement in each hand awaiting the Wargs’ attack.

“At least I’ll go down panning, if not punning” he thought to himself.

05-03-2003, 10:23 PM
In a few minutes, Iarwain was up again, and laughing as if nothing had ever happened. But then, he heard deep in the back of his head a cry for help, acompanied by the words that Saucepan was shouting:

Ho! Tom Bombadil, Tom Bombadillo!
By water, wood and hill, by the reed and willow,
By fire, sun and moon, hearken now and hear me!
Come, Tom Bombadil, for my need is near me!

And with a shout of "HO! TOM BOMBADIL!" he was off to the side door, commanding the cruel Uruks and hungry Wargs to keep away. "Get out cruel slime, vanish in the night time!" The wimpering wolves shrunk back, and the Uruks dissapeared. Saucepan, shaken but alright was brought back inside by good old Iarwain.
