Manardariel, Sophia the Thunder Mistress, and Nurumaiel invite you to play:
Corsairs and Corsets RPG
Historical Backround:
Ecthelion II was the son of Steward Turgon, and was a wise and foresightful Man. He put his efforts into strengthening his realm against the approaching danger of Sauron, who had openly revealed himself in the last years of Turgon's Stewardship. He was aided in this work by Gandalf, and by a mysterious stranger named 'Thorongil', who was later known to be none other than Aragorn. It was Throngil who constantly urged Ecthelion to take a stand against the rebels in Umbar. In 2980, just four years after this story takes place, Thorongil finally got permission from the Steward to go ahead and destroyed most of the Corsair ships with little loss of life. After this Aragorn disappeared, never having set foot in Minas Tirith.
Tolkien implies that Ecthelion's son Denethor viewed Thorongil as his rival and was pleased to see him leave. Moreover, Denethor had a much more negative attitude towards Gandalf. It is said that, even before becoming steward, Denethor learned of Gandalf's plans to restore the Heir of Isildur to the throne, and this accounts for his lifelong distrust of both the wizard and Aragorn.
In 2984, Ecthelion died and was succeeded as Steward by Denethor, who ruled Gondor at the time of the War of the Ring. Denethor's later history and eventual suicide is well known from the LotR.
Finduilas of Dol Amroth was born in 2950 TA, and married Denethor in 2976, the year this game takes place. She was a lady of great beauty and gentle heart who died when she will still young, just twelve years after her marriage. She was the mother of Boromir and Farimir, characters well known to us from LotR. Tolkien states the following: Denethor loved her, in his fashion, more dearly than any other, unless it was the elder of the sons that she bore him. But it seemed to men that she withered in the guarded city, as a flower of the seaward vales set upon a barren rock. The shadow in the east filled her with horror, and she turned her eyes ever south to the seas that she missed. With her passing in 2988, Denethor became increasingly depressed and withdrawn.
Basic Storyline:
Minas Tirith, May of TA 2976. Finduilas of Dol Amroth, bride to Steward Ecthelion´s son Denethor, has just arrived in the city with her Ladies and maids. Barely there, they are already wrapped up in the intrigue of the citadel court: for one thing, the local women are not at all pleased with Denethor´s choice, as they wanted him to marry a local girl. For another, a flashing, mysterious beauty is all around the court with her ladies - and she´s calling herself "A Friend of Dol Amroth". Finduilas´ ladies, suspicious because of this title start investigating, and the truth is a shock: the so-called “Lady” is really a spy of the Corsairs of Umbra, trying to stop the wedding. To uncover her, local and Dol Amroth Ladies have to work together...if they can!

Manardariel wil play 2 characters:
_____________________________________________
Name: Tessa (Tessiriel) of Dol Amroth
Age:17
Gender: Female
Race: Human of Gondor
Weapons: mind and whatever comes handy (a stick? a rock? who cares?!)
Looks: thick brown hair just barely curling over her chin. It used to be down to her waist, but she managed to let a honeyjar fall on it, and it had to be cut off. Deep brown eyes, usually slinted with laughter, or glittering full of “menace”. Medium-sized, with a femine figure. Freckled all over, with sweet dimples and full lips. Her face is open, and easy to read. When she´s cross, her eyes get very small, and she looks EXTREMLY scary.
Character: Some people, especially exasperated governesses, call Tessa “loud, obnoxious; however, VERY spirited”, and Tessa heartily agrees. Always bustling with energy, she couldn’t possibly sit still when life and the world are going out outside. Fierce in her loyalty to her sister, she´s quick to denounce anyone who doesnt agree. This she does far to quick, totally living off her first impression and feeling, hardly using rational thought. Shy or just quiet people bug her, mainly because she’s never quite sure if they’re really just quiet, or actually snobby, but also because she just doesn´t get them. Loud and never boring, she always has great ideas, however; she tends to get in trouble afterwards. Very open to other minds, on the other hand quick to form an opinion on something and someone. Then she´s horribly stubborn, and takes a big thing to make her admit she was wrong, which she hates. Tessa is quite intelligent, and loves to learn, but not in school: “My school is out there” she tends to say, pointing to the window. Hates to be alone, and loves to talk. When something´s got her talking she´ll go on and on and on and....also, she become demanding, wanting her –or Finduilas, of course- to be in the middle of attention.
History: Tessa is the baby of the family. She always got alot of attention and hardly any responsibity. Especially her mother spoiled her rotten, letting her oldest daughter Finduilas do most of the educational work. Nevertheless; Tessa and Finduilas are very close. They´ve been sharing a room since Tessa was two and Finduilas eight. Finduilas loves her sister dearly, however sometimes she´s tired of her enegetic spirit.
Tessa grew up in the blessed, sunkissed life of an aristocrat´s daughter, never knowing war, never fearing corsairs or armies.
_____________________________________________
Name: Finduilas of Dol Amroth
Age:25
Race: Human of Gondor
Gender: Female
Weapons: voice and eyes
Looks:No way past it: Finduilas is extremily beautiful. Dark, brown curls usually put up in an artfull bun or other pretty style. Blessed with a skin “like a seashell”, pale and without a fault. Huge, amber eyes, always half closed by her long eyelashes she´s especially proud of. Quite tall, with a beautiful figure and deep, melodic voice and soft hands.
Character: A silent power. Finduilas has never neen the person to run around and get in trouble, she´s always rather quiete and composed. However, she has a great influence on people and is well aware of that. With her extraordinary aura it´s hard to say “No” to anything she askes for. Finduilas has a great, great hard and is ready to give it to anyone. Sometime melaconic and very intelligent, very loyal and a bit ironic around herself and others. However, she has a thing about exquisite gowns and spends quite some money on that.
History: She is the oldest child of the Dol Amroth family, and that gave her alot of responsibility. However, this never made her demanding ot patronizing. She has a special connection to her father, who is very fond of her. A year before the wedding, she fell in love with a young Sea Captain, who married another girl. She sees her new life in Minas Tirith as a chance to prove to the world and herself she´s over this, and as a new start.

Manardariel’s post:
Tessa woke up. Pushing her thick, brown curls out of her face, she streched around cat-like, squinting around the unfamiliar room. It took her a moment to realize she was in Minas Tirith, not in her room at home in Dol Amroth. Tessa tiptoed out of bed, careful not to awake her peacefully sleeping sister. The girl peered out of the window, trying to get used to the unfamiliar view unfolding under her eyes. As far as Tessa´s eyes could reach, she saw houses, streets, carts and so many people! The sun had barely risen, and they were already crowding thre city, bustling and babbeling; giving her an idea what she had to expect from the next few years. Not that bad, no. In fact, Tessa liked it. It reminded her of the big spring-market back in Dol Amroth, a big attraction in that lazy, beautiful sea town. Tessa crept back into bed, but she couldn´t go to sleep. Instead, she studied Finduilas. Her sister looked stunningly beautiful, even now that she was asleep. Tessa snuggled in her arms. “Tessa.... lemme sleep...” the woman grumbled. The girl smiled and gently tickled her stomach. “Tessa! Stop it!” She pulled her hand away. Grinning, she gave her sister a hug and wispered “Rise and shine, Lady of Gondor. Today´s your big day!”
My big day, Finduilas thought. Half-smiling, half-frowning, she recalled all the “big days” she´d had in the last few months- the day father had announced her wedding to Denethor, the steward to-be. The day she´d left Dol Amroth. And today, when she´d first meet her husband and all the court of Minas Tirith would be her big day. Like her wedding, like the birth of her first son would be “big days”. Like every day she lived and breathed could be a big day. Finduilas pulled on the richly embroided, white gown she´s be wearing today. With Tessa´s help, she put up her hair into an elaborate bun, and slipped on two beautiful, fish-formed earrings. Adjusting her shawl –it was a bit cool- she looked at her sister. Little Tessa seemed lost in adoration. “I think I´m ready,” Finduilas said quitely. Her eyes filled with tears at the sight of that girl worshipping her like she was some kind of goddess. “Oh Finduilas, you´re so gorgeous!” Tessa cried, hugging her sister. “You´ll be the most beautiful Lady ever”
Nervously, Finduilas tapped her foot. She was to meet the important figueres of the court first, the the Steward and then, at last, Denethor, her future husband. Right now, she was greeting every lady, girl and mother of Gondor, or so it seemed. She smiled, looked elegant and tried hard to remember name after name after name after.... from time to time she caught Tessa´s look.
“How do I look?”
“Brilliant.” Tessa mouthed. With a mock look, she added “You Lady you!”

Sophia will play 2 characters:
_____________________________________________
NAME- Síriel
AGE – 47
RACE- Men (Minas Tirith Group)
GENDER – Female(unmarried)
WEAPONS - A smile or frown, quick ears and a sharp tongue.
LOOKS - Síriel is a mature woman, in her prime. She's considered quite lovely, with large grey eyes and long straight dark hair. She's taller than most women, and holds herself very straight. Her pride accentuates her features. She is fond of fancy clothes and bright colors. Feathers are a particular favorite.
CHARACTER - Síriel is extremely flirtatious, now in her forties she is extremely set in her ways and doesn't like the thought of placing herself under the authority of a husband. However, she sees no reason that this should limit her fun. She did poorly in her formal education, but has always done extremely well socially. She is the center of a large group of women (most eager to hear the latest news on her brother, Denethor). All the city's gossip goes through Síriel.
HISTORY - Born the younger of two daughters, Síriel has always felt a little overshadowed by her older sister. When Tíriel married early and well, Síriel claimed she felt the need to outdo her. She rejected suitor after suitor in an attempt to find someone of higher standing, better looking and with more power. It seemed a short time, but Síriel has now realized that she will not be considered a beauty and a prize forever. She is determined to make the most of her time before she must marry respectably.
_____________________________________________
NAME – Tíriel
AGE - 49
RACE - Man (Minas Tirith)
GENDER – Female(married)
WEAPONS - quick mind
LOOKS - Tíriel is shorter and smaller than her younger sister Síriel. They have the same posture and look of pride about them. Tíriel's chief source of vanity are her eyes. They are blue and very large, with long lashes. Her hair is dark, straight, and rather wilful, refusing to stay put.
CHARACTER - Tiriel is somewhat retiring, though very bright. She trusts the counsel of her father (Ecthelion), but also has some small ifluence over him. She's interested in politics and has paid attention, as the wife of a soldier, and is quite well informed. She is rarely seen out of the company of her sister, Síriel.
HISTORY - The older daughter, and eldest child of Steward Ecthelion II, Tíriel recieved an ambitious education. The girl soaked it up, hoping to study more, but soon she married a quick rising star in the Gondorian military. Her husband's career hit a ceiling several years ago, and he is currently head of one of the garrisons in Minas Tirith. Tíriel has taken up the occupation of finding a decent husband for her sister. It does not look promising.
_____________________________________________
Sophia’s post:
Síriel pushed through the crowd excitedly, weaving in, out, and around the finely dressed men and women who had come to welcome her brother’s future wife. A rather harried looking man in Gondorian military uniform followed in her wake, holding a turquoise feathered fan in one hand.
Reaching her goal, Síriel reached eagerly for her sister’s hand. Tíriel reached out and grasped her hand with a glad cry. “Ah, Sister, what a happy day!” she exclaimed. Síriel held her sister at arms length to look at her. Cream was a very flattering color on Tíriel, the floor length gown and elbow gloves accentuating her dark hair and large blue eyes. A white stone gleamed at her throat and her hair was loose down her back.
“Sister, you are beautiful!” Síriel exclaimed. Her husband seemed to agree, refusing to relinquish Tíriel’s other hand.
“Not as beautiful as you,” Tíriel responded wistfully. Síriel knew she looked especially good that day, she’s chosen her clothing carefully, intending to put every woman in the room to shame. Her long gown was a brilliant turquoise and her long dark hair was twisted up on her head, glimmering with silver pins. So far, she hadn’t seen any real competition. She was anxious to meet this Finduilas that Denethor was to marry, anxious to prove that though she was yet unmarried, she was no old maid.
A pair of hands came to rest on her shoulders, shaking her abruptly from her thoughts. Spinning, Síriel saw Feredir, her escort, standing behind her with a rather red face and her fan clutched tightly in one hand. She took the fan from him, holding it just under her eyes to mask a grin at his expense. Tíriel, who noticed her furtive sport smiled extra nicely at Feredir. “I see you’ve brought a handsome young man from our navy with you, Síriel,” she commented playfully.
“Oh yes, Feredir’s a gem.” Síriel assured her sister. “He’s done nothing all day but run about after anything I’ve wanted, have you Feredir?” She turned her grey eyes on him and he nodded politely. Tíriel’s eyes widened.
“All day?” she asked, in mock surprise. Feredir nodded. “Well you must be positively exhausted. My sister can be impossible to please.” Síriel’s cheerful face took on the look of one grievously wronged. Tíriel nudged her playfully. “Why don’t you go on with Gaerlin now and have some drinks?” she asked, pushing her reluctant husband forward with one hand. “Have some ‘man-talk’.” Síriel giggled at this, and a look of intense relief came over the face of the unlucky Feredir. The two men departed in the direction of the bar and Síriel slumped with relief.
“My land, Tír, that man is such a bore.” She gasped. “I’ve simply run him off his feet all day, to keep from having to talk to him!”
“Oh, but so very good looking!” her sister exclaimed, with a sly grin. “I know you, Sister, can’t stand to be shown up.” Síriel blushed to a shade of red that most tomatoes would envy and turned her attention to straightening the feathers on her fan.
“Well, I simply must look good in front of Denethor’s new bride.” She whined, touching her hairstyle lightly to be sure all was still in place. Tíriel rolled her eyes at her younger sister’s vanity and scanned the room.
“Well, Sister,” she said as her sharp eyes spotted a group of nervous young women entering the hall. “It seems your escape is short lived, I think the group from Dol Amroth has arrived. I should find Gaerlin.” Síriel squealed with delight.
“Do you see Finduilas?” she clamored in Tíriel’s ear, “is she pretty? Is she good enough for our Little Brother?” Tíriel swatted her sister in irritation that was only half pretended.
“How am I to know which one she is? Really, Síriel, do try to act like an adult.” Síriel drew herself up to her full height and attempted to look serene and mature. Tíriel shot her an approving glance, as Gaerlin and Feredir rejoined them. Linking arms with their respective escorts the Steward’s daughters made their way over to where their father, Ecthelion stood. The whole family should greet this new addition together.
From where they stood at the far end of the hall they watched Finduilas come up the line, greeting every man and every maiden alike, down to the lowest. Tíriel smiled with admiration for this woman. She remembered the time before her own wedding, the nerves and the tiredness. Finduilas, she judged, would make a fine wife for her brother.
Síriel too was watching Finduilas’ progress across the room. She was indeed as lovely as they said, and so young. Síriel felt a small twinge of jealousy at this thought. She shoved it out of her mind as the girl approached them.
Finduilas held one small hand out to each of them. “And you will be my new sisters,” she said softly. Tíriel smiled at her as they nodded.
“I am Síriel.” The younger of the two said brightly, “and this is Tíriel, my sister, and her husband, Gaerlin.” Feredir coughed from behind her. “And Feredir of Pelargir. He is in the Gondorian Navy.” She added, as an afterthought. Finduilas smiled at this introduction, but remained disconcertingly silent. Feredir’s hands moved back to Síriel’s shoulders, and she shrugged with irritation. His hands refused to be dislodged. Síriel almost didn’t mind, as his possessive touch gave her something else to think about during this awkward silence.

Nurumaiel will play 1 character:
_____________________________________________
NAME: Adrama
AGE: 25
RACE: Man
GENDER: Female
WEAPONS: No weapons
APPEARANCE: Adrama is a slender, beautiful young woman with dark hair that falls just above her waist. Her skin is fair and she has brown eyes.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Adrama has a jealous nature and can easily get onto bad terms with someone she feels has something she herself should have had. However, once she gets over her first feelings and given the chance and reason, she can be a wonderful friend.
HISTORY: A very important part in Adrama’s history concerning this story is the story of Denethor, herself, and her mother. Her mother, Pelien, had strong feelings about Adrama marrying Denethor. But she didn’t know that Adrama’s feelings were also strong, and she herself was deeply in love with Denethor. Now in her reigns jealousy for Finduilas, who is soon to wed the man she loves…
_____________________________________________
Nurumaiel’s post:
Adrama stood with her mother Pelien, watching critically as Finduilas was introduced to the court. Her heart burned with jealousy and rage at the thought of this stranger wedding Denethor. Glancing up at her mother, she saw that she was thinking much the same. But all she wanted was for her daughter to marry Denethor, a man of great position. She didn’t realize that the young woman standing beside her had been and still was deeply in the love with him.
“Perhaps we should go greet her,” Pelien said, taking a step forward. Adrama knew it was a command, but she stood where she was and shook her head. She would not go speak to that woman who had stolen her life from her. Her mother could go, but she, Adrama, would not. What did her mother care, anyway? She didn’t understand the suffering Adrama had endured, and was now enduring as she watched Finduilas, who would wed Denethor.
Pelien gave her a warning look as she walked towards Finduilas to greet her. Adrama watched stubbornly. Suddenly she was aware of someone standing at her shoulder and she turned furiously, already knowing who it was. Yes, it was as she thought. Addruran, possibly the most annoying young man in the court. She knew he was in love with her. He followed her everywhere and never gave her any peace.
This gave her twice as much reason to escape. First Finduilas, the one who had ruined her life, and now Addruran, who was trying to ruin it further. She turned and glared up at him, trying to think of something to say. He looked down at her innocently. “It is a pity Finduilas is to marry Denethor,” Adrama said cruelly, “for I still love him very much.”
“Yes, it is a pity,” said Addruran calmly, but Adrama thought she saw his back straighten a little. His eyes turned to Finduilas and those gathered around her. “Now I must go greet the lady who is Denethor’s betrothed.” He said those words coldly, trying to hurt her. As he departed he took one final shot. “She is beautiful, isn’t she? So perfect for Denethor.” Adrama burned with rage, and the tears sprung to her eyes. She turned and ran from the hall. She could no longer bear to look at Finduilas. She had ruined her entire life. Oh, Denethor.....

Estelyn's character: (Finduilas/Dol Amroth Group)
NAME: Diorwyn
AGE: 42
RACE: human
GENDER: female
WEAPONS: needles and scissors
APPEARANCE: Diorwyn is 5’3” tall, has dark hair with a few grey threads, dark grey eyes, nimble hands and a trim figure in which she secretly takes pride, always dressing well, though unobtrusively.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Diorwyn may seem garrulous at first glance, but those who look more closely notice her shrewd, observant eyes. She thinks more than she says (which is saying a lot!) and usually keeps to the background, not being noticed much. Her tendency to fuss over details makes her an excellent seamstress, whose dresses become their wearers well.
HISTORY: Diorwyn is a seamstress in Dol Amroth, highly sought after by the ladies of the court, especially Finduilas. Since her mother came from Minas Tirith before marrying her father, a military officer of Dol Amroth who had served in the White City for some time, Diorwyn has relatives there. Not only does she visit them often enough to keep up with the stylish trends of big city fashions, she learned her trade there as an apprentice. She is happy to accompany Finduilas to put the finishing touches on the almost complete wedding gown and other dresses, though it means being parted from her husband and three almost-grown children for that time.
_____________________________________________
Estelyn's post:
Diorwyn’s dark hair and the folds of her soft grey dress blended with the shadows of the drapery in the hall. Though not likely to be noticed in the colourful throng of noble guests, she had an excellent view of the Steward, his family and the newcomers from Dol Amroth. Her critical eyes observed Finduilas, the designated bride, noting every detail of her perfect appearance. With a tiny sigh of relief, she turned her head to look at the dresses of the other ladies present.
“She’s beautiful,” a low voice beside her said, “and she does her seamstress honour.”
“Gwinniel!” Diorwyn exclaimed softly. “I might have known that you would be here. Nothing escapes your attention, as always.”
The lips of the white-haired woman curved upwards ever so slightly in greeting. “It appears that the princess has chosen wisely; your skill has improved even since I last saw you. I am pleased that you have come to the White City after a long absence. But tell me, how does your family? They must miss you sorely!”
“As I do them,” the younger woman answered. “Ciryandil said that they would fare well without help, but his sister lives nearby and is looking after them when needed. Our eldest spends all day at the wharves with his father, learning the shipbuilding trade. The two younger ones are still in school, though they think that they would rather be grown up already.”
“Good, good.” Gwinniel’s reply was rather preoccupied, for her gaze rested on the gown of Finduilas again. “The colour and style become her well,” she said approvingly. “You have changed the prevailing fashion in some details; now, how did you…”
The two women drifted off into a low conversation on cuts, trimmings, fabrics and figures, and if some of the ladies had heard their caustic comments, they would have fled the hall immediately to change their garments…

*Varda*'s character: (Minas Tirith Group)
NAME – Elena
AGE – 18
APPEARANCE – – Elena has dark brown, almost black, hair, which is rather wavy, and normally braided or partially tied back to keep it out of her face. Her eyes are brown, tinted with a little green, and she has pale skin.
PERSONALITY – Elena is friendly, welcoming, and gets to know people easily. However, she is often off in a dream, especially after finishing a particularly absorbing book, and wishes she was there. It is mainly her avid love of reading and writing that gave Elena a very active imagination, and Elena wishes her past was more interesting, like characters out of the stories that she both reads and tries to write. Because of this, she will often invent stories to make her past seem more wild and fascinating, and is a convincing liar. Knowing how to lie well has made her more aware of it when people are not telling her the whole truth – yet if she tries to voice this to others, they will often dismiss it as just another fantasy of Elena’s, and something she found in a book. Despite these flaws, Elena is much liked as people know she will listen to their problems, and give advice.
HISTORY – She comes from a well-off background, but managed to avoid being spoilt, as she has younger twin sisters, and the attention was mostly lavished on them, as the babies of the family. Elena, left to her own devices, read a lot, lost in her own world, but she never had as many books as she would have liked. When not reading, she would go off with her friends, often staying out all night, and being a convincing liar, her parents believed her excuses. At 17, her parents eventually decided Elena was not satisfied with the life she was leading, and needed more, and subsequently sent her off to Minas Tirith, expecting her to receive a proper education there. Elena was in her element – she had freedom from her parents, all the books in Minas Tirith to read, and plenty of people to talk to. In the year she has been there, she managed to get to know a lot of the people around her, and made many friends, although her tendency to lie has not been lost from her – she likes to invent stories to make her past seem more interesting, and passes them off as truth.
_____________________________________________
Varda's post
Elena heard the sound of feet running past the door of the library. Snapping her heavy book shut, she went and looked out the large window, curiously to see what was drawing everyone’s attention, and saw the arrival of Finduilas and her maids.
It seemed the whole of Minas Tirith was excited about the arrival of this strange woman from Dol Amroth, here to be married to Denethor. Those that weren’t so excited were jealous, at least that was the impression Elena had picked up from the gossiping maids around the court, and the frowns worn on the faces of the nobility, hoping to have married off their daughters to the future Steward.
Elena, in truth, felt very little about Finduilas’ arrival. It was just another woman who had looked for Denethor’s attention, hoping for marriage, only this time the woman had actually succeeded. What reason had a girl like Elena to care too deeply about it? Hopefully, it would at least bring some excitement to the court of Minas Tirith, which, if anything, had only become increasingly dull of late. Even the maids had been running out of gossip to tell each other. Surely, there would be a few parties in Finduilas’ honour, and then, Elena felt sure, there was a chance to have some fun.

alaklondewen's character (Minas Tirith Group)
NAME: Pelien
AGE: 52
RACE: Man
GENDER: Female
WEAPONS: None
APPEARANCE: Pelien is a tall woman at almost 6 feet. Her long, dark hair is pinned up tightly so that her face appears to be stretched. She has high cheekbones, large brown eyes, a small feminine nose, and prominent eyebrows. Her mouth is full and usually held tightly together in a scowl. She carries herself regally and her presence alone demands attention.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Pelien is a strong woman who is set in her ways. Her overbearing personality aids in her controlling nature toward all those around her, especially her husband and daughter. She is goal oriented and when she sets her mind on a task, the task gets finished.
HISTORY: Pelien's husband, Sador, is a member of the Tower Guard and a highly respected man in the community. Pelien sees her social status as the foundation of everything she and her family do. This reasoning is why is believes her daughter, Adrama, should have been in line to marry Denethor instead of an outsider.
_____________________________________________
alaklondewen´s post
Pelien looped her right arm through her husband’s as they watched Denethor’s new bride enter the hall. As Finduilas crossed the floor, Pelien roughly squeezed Sador’s bicep. “What do you think?” He whispered. Her answer was a disparaging look accompanied by a raised eyebrow. “She’s nothing special,” she spat calmly.
Turning toward her daughter, Pelien touched the small of her back. “Stand up straight, Adrama,” she said shortly through her teeth. The girl immediately straightened her back and raised her chin. That should be Adrama, Pelien thought as she turned her attention back to Finduilas.
“Perhaps we should go greet her.” Pelien stepped forward and waited for her daughter to fall in line. Sador leaned forward and whispered, “Be nice, dear.” Pelien just grunted. She would not do or say anything that would cause an unpleasant scene. Snapping her head around, she shot a warning at Adrama to step forward, but the girl shook her head. That’s fine…I’ll go myself. Straightening her navy dress, she strode across the room still holding Sador’s arm toward Finduilas.
Several ladies surrounded the young woman, but Pelien paid them no attention and interrupted the talk by holding her hand out to Finduilas. “Welcome to Minas Tirith. I am Pelien and this is my husband, Sador.” Finduilas slowly reached out, took the woman’s hand, and said, “It is a pleasure to meet you, Madame and Sir.” Pelien put on a courtesy smile and looked the girl in the eyes. “I’m sure it is,” she said rather curtly then smiled warmly. “Please, if there is anything at all that you need…” she trailed off purposefully leaving the just ask off. Turning her back on Finduilas, Pelien walked away proudly.

Lyra Greenleaf's character: (Minas Tirith Group)
NAME: Emilia
AGE: 21
RACE: Human- Gondorian
GENDER: Female
WEAPONS: None
APPEARANCE: Curly brown hair falling below her waist which she takes loving care of. Dark brown eyes which have a wide eyed helpless look around men and a hard glint among women. Rather tight fitting, low cut dresses and lots of jewellery. Freckles- the bane of her life.
HISTORY: Has grown up in the court at Minas Tirith with only a very vague sense of anything outside the city- soldiers are merely to be admired and flirted with. Has a strict mother and a doting father- both of whom are in the countryside visiting her older brother and his new baby. Is now seriously looking for a husband as she does not want to end up an old maid- a type of woman she pities and ridicules. However, she does want to marry for love.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Emilia is clever although she usually only uses it for cunning and thinking of witty, biting remarks. She has few good female friends but admired by most men. Truly loves her father and brother, but has a strained relationship with her mother. Acts empty headed and helpless around men, a policy which other women don’t like but often seems to work in catching male attention. Very manipulative, sees it as a sort of hobby.

Lyra Greenleaf´s post
“Oh dear!”
Emilia shook her head just enough to make her hair sway prettily but without tangling it. From the corner of her eye she watched the off duty City Guard.
He is looking!
Deliberately, Emilia widened her eyes.
“Oh no. What shall I do?”
Once again she looked at the Guard. He was definitely watching her. Quite appraisingly, too. Irritation flared. That was very crude of him. With an internal sigh she decided he would never do to marry. Not if he went around looking at all pretty girls like that. Still, he was attractive.
Why is he not offering to help? Oaf!
Unhappily she turned to him, deciding to try the direct approach. “Will you please help me? I’m trying to find the Houses of Healing, and I can’t remember the way.” Discreetly Emilia batted her eyelashes. It was always best to be discrete, she had never yet been accused of flirting by a man.
Annoyingly the man raised an eyebrow, and gave a slight smile.
“The Houses of Healing? And why would you be going there? You don’t look ill to me”
Insolence! The gall of this man!
Emilia was unsure how to reply. She had never been questioned in this way before! Most of the Guards would just be happy to escort her, to talk to her.
“I-I have a message for one of the healers.”
“Very well” the man replied, again with that insolent half smile. Immediately he turned and began to walk briskly, cloak swirling around his legs. Emilia hurried to follow, blood boiling. He was indeed walking briskly, she could hardly keep up.
With a start Emilia realised she was passing her own front door. Her ‘escort’ had not yet looked back to check whether she was following. With a small smile Emilia turned aside and entered her house.
I believe I win, she said to herself.
Emilia looked around the gathering in disgust. There were so many women! “Where are all the men?” she asked the old lady sitting to her left.
“Some trouble with, well I own, I hardly know who! Not those Corsairs, I don’t think. The Rohirrim? No, they’re on our side…”
Emilia sighed and wandered away. An Old Maid.
No doubt she has no-one to talk to at home so decides to bore to tears anyone she meets!
From a vantage point in a corner of the long room Emilia gazed around. There really were very few men. With satisfaction she noticed Beren. Well, there’s little fear of him going to fight anyone, she thought with contempt. Little worm! Nevertheless he is extremely good looking. He makes the City Guard look-
Emilia broke off her thought, annoyance at the man’s attitude resurfacing.
Determinedly she began to walk towards Beren. He was talking with Lorna.
Simply because she has fair hair she thinks every man should fall at her feet! Empty headed little-
“Lorna!” Emilia said, false smile spreading over her features. “And Beren!” ”Emilia” Lorna returned, smile stretched even wider.
“I am so parched. Do either of you know where I can get a drink?” Emilia asked, features showing innocence.
“I will get you one of course Emilia” Beren answered immediately.
Emilia watched him walk away with a small smile.
Men! So easy to understand and control! It’s sweet really. Except that-
Emilia cut herself off again. Not that odious man.
At Beren’s departure both women dropped their smiles.
“Emilia I was talking to him first. When you get your drink - ”
“But Lorna, I simply had to come and tell you about your hair.”
”My hair?” Lorna looked at Emilia distrustfully. Emilia was aware that somehow she had gained a reputation among the women for being manipulating. It was unfortunate, really- it made everything so much harder.
“Well yes. The interesting effect you have at the back. It’s very bold. I only hope everyone else likes it as much as I”
Lorna put a hand up to feel her hair. Emilia bit back a smile.
Nearly as easy as dear Beren!
“I think it’s commendable,” she continued “Court fashions haven’t changed in so long. Whose idea was it? The tangled look I mean?”
“T-tangled?” Lorna began, distrust still flickering in her eyes. “It’s not - ”
Time for the kill!
“Yes, tangled. Letty was saying it looked like a bird’s nest. I stood up for you of course. I think it’s a triumph.”
Both women stared towards Letty. Emilia had noticed her looking, a few moments ago. Now, of course, she quickly ducked her head. Looking back to Lorna, Emilia saw horror was blooming on her face.
“E-Excuse me” she said, walking quickly away, hands fluttering up repeatedly to touch her hair. Emilia smiled gently as she watched her leave the room, then waved at Beren, who nodded, rasing his two filled hands.
Indeed people are so easy to control, Emilia thought with satisfaction. That was a most enjoyable interlude. Now, I think, a dance? Beren dances as badly as he would fight- were he ever to try. Reniedil on the other hand…
********************************
The next morning Emilia yawned behind her hand as she waited for the girl from Dol Amroth, who was to wed Denethor.
Such a pity that we must all stand around to greet her. It was be far more agreeable to have a party. Or a ball…
A dreamy smile spread across her face at the thought. A new dress of course, perhaps a dusky rose pink like the one she had worn for her brother’s wedding. Hopefully the soldiers would be recalled to the city, for Emilia could not stand another party with just the men like Beren, too rich or cowardly to do anything.
Yes, that would do nicely…
A flash of movement in front of her distracted her attention from a detailed plan of the embroidery she would have on the bodice of her dress. As she looked up, Emilia saw the guard from yesterday. He was waving his hand at her, talking to another soldier. As he saw her looking he winked. Unbidden, a blush crept onto Emilia’s face. She willed it away, for blushing made her freckles stand out. It would not go, and she feared he would notice. Notice that he had got to her, of course, not her freckles. She wouldn’t care about the freckles. Of course not. Vexed she turned away.
Obnoxious pig of a man! she thought furiously.Where in the world is Adrama?

Durelin's character: (Minas Tirith Group)
Name: Vernathitia (called 'Vern')
Age: 32
Race: Man of Minas Tirith
Gender: Female
Weapons: None, except for a knife she carries in a pocket sewn on the inside of her dress. For self defense, if need be. Can't be too careful.
Appearance: Vernathitia is fairly short, standing at only five feet, four inches, but the rest of her makes up for it. She is not fat, but she could be called 'plump'. She has shoulders and arms that might belong on a blacksmith, making one think she might just blacken your eye. She is amazingly speedy for her size, and Vern can run around her kitchens to catch someone adding too much salt at lightening speed.
Personality: Vern is a very stubborn woman, demanding and full of energy, always bustling about ready to give orders. She is a smart woman, though not the quickest thinker, and she can pull apart any bit of gossip if she has enough time to mull over it. She has learned that this strategy works the best, and that there is no sense in running head long into a ditch. You must take your steps nice and slow, but steady. Vernathitia is really a kind and caring woman, even with her intimidating disciplinarian self. She has a particular soft spot for young boys and their foolishness, because of her brother who died at a young age. She is always ready to laugh, though her humor is a bit dry. Her weaknesses are many, like all human beings. For one, she is not a forgiving person, in many cases. She holds a strong grudge, and one that people should avoid. She also sees men as stubborn mules, (though she is equally stubborn, if not more so than many men) but she knows she cannot live without them. Her strong will can also be a weakness, since it can blind her from many things. She hates to be wrong, and would never suspect that someone contradicting her could be right. Vern is also quite forgetful, so those grudges can be misplaced. But, so can other tidbits of information, so, even though she has an ear for gossip, she usually jots down anything she wishes to remember.
History: Vernathitia was born in the port city of Harlond, and is well versed in the ways of sailors, including the wide variety of curses. She was the eldest of six children, one of which, her younger brother, Tarik, died of a fever at only 14 years old. Her mother, Tyri, had always been best at cooking, though she taught her four daughters all the proper knowledge of ladies. Vern was the only one to excel in her mother's favorite, and actually came to cook far better than her mother ever had. Tyri was ecstastic, and sent her off to the kitchens of Minas Tirith at age 19. She has served in the kitchens for 13 years, making her way up the 'food chain' (heh, heh, corny, I know) to Head Cook in 4 years. Because of this, Vern has been accustomed to giving orders. Over the years she had also risen to become an 'eyes and ears' of some of the ladies at court. Rumor and gossip flourish in the kitchens, and servants are always likely to pick up bits of conversation, if they are deployed in the right place, at the right time, and quietly!
_____________________________________________
Durelin's post
"You're lucky my wooden spoon isn't my favorite pitch fork!" Vernathitia, Head Cook of the Kitchens of Minas Tirith, shouted at the men and women rushing back and forth around her. The kitchens of Minas Tirith were a busy place, especially with guests. Ladies of Dol Amroth, and the Lady Finduilas herself, the woman who was to wed the Steward's son! And the wedding itself was not far away.
"Those red-currant tarts better be in the ovens!" Vernathitia, called Vern by anyone she considered a friend or of higher status, strode over to peer over the shoulder of a young girl with blonde curls at a large pot.
"What are you doing girl!" she screeched in utter astonished anger. "The potatoes should have gone in five minutes ago!"
The girl stared up at the imposing woman with large eyes filled with horror, her knees wobbling. Cowering beneath the gaze she lowered her eyes only to stand there.
"Well what are you waiting for, girl? For the taters to grow legs and leap into the soup?"
As the honey-haired girl jumped to grab the potatoes Vern suddenly gasped. The girl jumped. "The salmon!" she cried. Seeing the girl, Vern turned to her with a reassuring look. "No, not you." The girl relaxed and Vern raced off to the back of the kitchens.
Right next to the strangely curved wall at the back, six large grey fish lay on a polished stone surface. Vern quickly grabbed the fileting knife and attacked one of the fish, pulling out herbs and spices. Then the door behind her opened and two young men came up the stairs from the cellar, carrying large wheels of various cheeses. The two were speaking intently to one another.
"…and you know what the Lady Dryea says," said the taller of the two. He had short dark hair and eyes. "What?" asked the other boy. He was a head shorter and had lighter and longer hair. "She says she's not sure about these ladies who came with the Lady Finduilas, from Dol Amroth," the dark haired one continued, "And she thinks they aren't really from there."
That was all Vern needed. She had never really known the Lady Dryea or any of her retinue, they seemed quite normal to Vern. The Lady Dryea seemed nice enough, and her family had been in Minas Tirith for quite a while. Now these ladies…she'd just have to keep an eye on them. And of course she'd notify the Lady Emilia about this, that was her job. It would do her quite a lot of good if --
"Ow!" she cried. She had cut herself neatly down her finger instead of the fish. "I have to pay attention to my work, then I can worry about giving my information to m'Lady," she mumbled to herself.
"What was that you said, Mistress Vernathitia?" asked the light haired boy carrying the cheese. She had completely forgotten about the two. "Oh do shut up!" she yelled. "And give that bloody cheese to Master Domon!"

Maikafanawen's character: (Evil Group)
Name: Dryea Morthaniawen
Age: Early 30's
Race: Corsair
Gender: Female
Appearance: Strikingly beautiful with amber-red hair, hypnotizing blue eyes, and a golden complexion. Dryea is fair and usually wins the favor of many who come to look upon her enchanting smile. She is slender and tall standing no less than 5’8”.
Weapons: Her eloquence and transfixing charm. Dryea Morthaniawen is also equipped with a dagger: standard for the women of her race. It is a beautiful antique carefully crafted and very expensive.
Personality/Weaknesses/Strengths: Dryea speaks well with force or sweetness as the occasion demands, winning others to her side with bold speech. She has a special gift of furtiveness and knows well how to hide herself from unwanted eyes. A cagey character she is both wary and clever. Despite her claims, she also has a fine ear for languages and can speak most of them with ease and fluency. At home among her roguish companions she was known for her honey-tongued ability. Sweet-tongued and deceivingly courteous, she speaks with kindness even when angered, winning favour with words. To others she is appears very open and innocent. Her pretty features and sweet words are very misleading and most often gain her the necessary allies. Among her own kind, and those lesser than she, Dryea is very intimidating. Her weaknesses are what will ultimately lead to her downfall. Dryea is very arrogant, and filled with the hatred for the men who have outcast her people—wrongly, so she believes. Her hatred often clouds her perception and leads her to make reckless mistakes. Usually she is able to cover them. She also has an uncanny knowledge for the concoctions of poisons and draughts.
History: Dryea Morthaniawen grew up with her mother and father and younger sister in scattered coastal cities and towns, learning the art of spying and etiquette to gain high positions in all societies. Her mum taught her to debate with great skill, the art of guise, observation, persuasion, and inquiry. The belief that all gondorians are their enemies was branded into her mind at a young age and supported by the fact that her people were driven further and further from their ‘rightful’ lands—which of course were never theirs to begin with. Dryea has devoted her life to claim much, if not all, of Gondor for the corsairs.
Her mother before her was a spy in the citadel of Ecthelion and is well liked by the court. Now she has given over the title to her daughter who is trying to gain the same trust her mother had. Everything goes as planned until Finduilas, the future Lady of Minas Tirith comes from Dol Amroth, the very city Dryea and her sister, friends, and mother claim to be from. The court grows tense and Dryea must find a way to send Finduilas and her posse back home before she is discovered.
_____________________________________________
Maikafanawen's post
Dryea Morthaniawen stood in front of the full-length mahogany mirror in her bedchamber, studying her elegant ensemble. Her amber hair was piled on top of her head in elaborate curls and held in place by decorative pins. Her dress was of crimson velour with a seven-inch wide strip of embroidered flowers on cream velour running down the front. Darts on the left and right fronts of the bodice gave it a shapely look and enhanced her exotic figure. The sleeves were snug and ran gracefully down the entire length of each arm, stopping at a point above each delicate hand.
“Exquisite,” said her mother, coming up behind her, dressed equally as ravishing in dark blue velour. She dismissed the maids with a polite nod and smooth out a slight wrinkle on the sleeve. “What about jewelry?” she asked. Dryea glided over to her vanity and chose a long gold chain from which hung a beautiful medallion. The medallion was inlaid with sapphires and was of a fine ship, with tall masts and billowing sails, representing Dol Amroth. The lady also chose a delicate array of bangles that she slid onto her wrist. Taking another look in the mirror, she was satisfied with the view.
“Splendid.” Then the daughter did something unexpected for a lady. She opened a secret drawer in her vanity and withdrew a dagger of unique make and tucked it into a fold in her dress. Her mother didn’t blink an eye for she too held such a weapon. But these noblewomen of Minas Tirith were not at all as they appeared.
Sent here years ago, the mother was a spy from the corsairs whose stronghold lay at Umbar: a city in Harad. For many years the sea-faring men had been looting merchant ships and living off their plunder. Dryea had been raised knowing only what her mother had taught her. So she had believed that her deeds were noble and for the good of her people. However, now as she grew older, and with age came wisdom, she realized that her actions were nothing short of vengeful. But she didn’t change her ways. She thought only of power. And the day when she would rule Gondor and the corsairs would rule the seas yet again. That thought always brought a wicked smile to her magnificent face.
Soon they were joined by Dryea’s younger sister, Alethea. Together, the three of them walked down their corridor length and down the stairwell to the hall where they were being introduced to Lady Finduilas of Dol Amroth, and future Lady of Minas Tirith. This may or may not impose a threat to Dryea and her mother’s plans. If she turns out to be easily susceptible to her charm, she could prove to be an important ally. If not. . .
“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,” her mother had said unsteadily as she nodded greeting to guards as they were permitted to enter the hall. It was beautifully decorated with tapestries that hung from the ceiling and were carefully woven with portraits of past kings and stewards of Gondor. Dryea walked down the length of carpet, following the other ladies of the court, until she stopped in front of Finduilas. She was just as, if not more, stunning in appearance than Dryea. The lady looked very confident, although, thought Dryea thinking back to the first time she had come to the citadel, she must be very nervous. She bowed her head slightly in due respect and gave her a reassuring motherly smile and a wink. Finduilas seemed to relax a bit at Dryea’s friendliness and continued greeting the court.
Dryea Morthaniawen then took her place beside her friends of Minas Tirith and watched the procession closely, taking in all the new faces and their unique characteristics whether it be fan-waving, eye-batting, or a slight hop to their walk. Dryea knew almost everything to be known about each member of the court. Soon, she would also know about this Finduilas of Dol Amroth!

Arien's character: (Evil Group)
Name: Alethea Morthaniawen
Age: 28
Race: Corsair
Gender: Female
Appearance: Alethea has bronze skin and brown eyes speckled with green. Her hair is amber, like her sisters, but is darker. It flows down to her waist and has a slight wave to it. Her height is 5ft 7 and she is of medium build. And although she is beautiful, she is not as so when compared to her sister, Dryea.
Weapons: She has no real weapons apart from a small knife, with a mahogany handle to protect herself. Her best weapon is her head and she can see through peoples lies quite well.
Personality/Weaknesses/Strengths: Alethea has a quiet personality and rarely shows any of it. She mostly follows the order of her mother and sister and seldom gets to speak her mind in front of them. Still despite the way that they seem to control her she loves them dearly and believes what they are fighting for must be worth it as they crave it with a passion. Around others she is confident and enjoys to talk to those she does not know, she makes friends effortlessly, therefore she can get valuble information. She has a similar trait as her sister, being innocent. Or rather acting it. Her mind is dangerous and she can see through peoples lies with ease. Her weakness according to her mother and sister is her conscience, she always thinks about how her actions will hurt other even if they are the enemy. But her main weakness is her sharp tongue and rudeness to others that has got her into trouble.
History: She has lived in many coastal towns and villages, and following her sister gained high places in many societies. Her mother taught her numerous skills that she would use later in life to help herself and others. As a young child she was taught to hate the Gondarians, who had taken their land from them. And so with her sister she fights to claim Gondor as the Corsairs- as it rightfully should be. Her mother was a spy in Ecthelion’s court before her sister, and now that Dryea has ‘taken over’, Alethea mainly aids her. She is well liked amoung the court by the nobles and servants alike and has several friends there.
_____________________________________________
Arien´s post
Alethea lay on her four poster bed. It was covered in a beige spread with several soft cushions sprawled over it. Muslin hung down from the post and were eloquently tied back with golden ribbons. Her dress, which was now no doubt getting creased, was a rich gold. The sleeves covered her bronzed arms and stopped , tied with a weaving lace on the inner wrists. Her corset was tied tightly, with a golden ribbon weaved in at the back. Her front was decorated with a simple starburst of Citrine jewels, backed with the same golden colour, in silk. The bottom part was simple and purely flowed to the floor. Her hair hung loosely in attractive and refined ringlets. Upon her feet she wore simple golden slippers.
Her mother was with her sister. There was no change there. She always would help her get ready as she was the ‘eldest’. Alethea doubted this, it was probably favouritism. Everyone seemed to like Dryea more, but this didn’t really bother her that much. She liked the friends she had.
Alethea got up slowly and peered into the mirror. Resting on her tanned face her eyelashes were thick and dark and her eyes had a faint golden shimmer swept over them. And on her lip elusively hung a brush of intense red. She smiled, her small perfect pearl teeth shone. So today she would be meeting Findulas. The one person, she thought, that could ruin all their planning. Her sister and mother didn’t seem to be bothered about the new oncoming presence but she certainly was. What if she told that they were not from Dol Amroth? But then again her and her maids could be used to their advantage. Maybe it was time to put some of their skills into practice once more. Her trail of thought was suddenly lost by knock on the door. A maid entered.
“Miss, your mother and sister are waiting,” she said timidly.
“Thank you,” Alethea smiled. She quickly sprayed her self with a fragrance of lavender, checked that she had her knife- which was kept beneath the skirt and briskly walked out of her room, locking the door behind her and slipping the key into a purse that hung from her side. She met her mother and sister on the landing, who both looked equally stunning.
“Shall we go then?” she smiled and they proceeded to walk down to the hall. Down there was array of beautiful women and handsome men. Alethea sat beside her Minas Tirith friends and watched as Findulas and her maids entered the court. For better or for worse she whispered to herself.

I just read the new Rohan rules and it says "No flirting". Should I change Emilia? Having checked again it actually says no sexual flirtation
Is there a difference?

This game will naturally have flirting in it. It is based around male/female and female/female relations. I can see women flirting to attain power and position with men.
Just don't make it of a sexual nature; that is, don't do any lusty, sexual innuendos. Keep it a game of manipulation and vying for power and prestige.

Hi!
I really wanted to apply for one of the secondary characters, but then I read Sophia's and Alaklondewen’s post.
The names of the husbands are there and what they do.. (I mean, one of them is head of one of the garrisons in Minas Tirith and the other one, Sador, is a member of the Tower Guard.)
Half of these characters are already created. *I think so anyhow...*
So I am not sure, what I am really supposed to do here. Figuring out a name for a chatacter is what I think is the most important thing...And here, they are already figured out! *sigh*
"The character is the name, and the name is the character.."

I'm posting this here, as well as sending it in PM to Novnarwen:
Games on the Barrow Downs can be different from those on other sites. And what the Owners require, is what the writers need to work with.
This is a Game which challenges your power to create within a set framework. You have been given the bare-bones of a character, seen through the eyes of another character.
Taking those few facts, can you flesh out one of these men, and make him really interesting, and a worthy foil to his wife?

Have you ever played in an RPG at the Barrow Downs? – YES, Holiday in The Sun, and Truth in a Dark Place.
NAME: Vieana (Finduilas’ Ladies.)
AGE: 19
RACE: Man
GENDER: Female
WEAPONS: If you call a penetrating stare at her husband when he acts up a weapon…
APPEARANCE: Five feet seven inches tall, with a slender figure. Vieana is what you would call an extremely pretty young lady, but not overly beautiful and has a soft face behind long, straight ash-blonde hair and stone grey eyes, Vieana wears dresses in tones of grey, silver and light blue, occasionally green with various patterns of stitching. Never red, as she thinks it makes her look pale and sick. She is softly spoken, and her skin is neither pale nor dark either.
PERSONALITY: Vieana is the kindest person that you could ever meet, and always sees the good in everyone and everything, which often leaves her a target when it comes to evil schemes. She will never doubt her superiors and is very humble, as well as being very generous. Despite her placid nature, Vieana is seen as the light in the dark in times of trouble. Vieana is always happy and smiling, it takes a lot to faze her. Vieana is very good at solving problems as she is very intelligent.
HISTORY: Vieana grew up in Dol Amroth, daughter of a wealthy merchant. She is the youngest of six sisters, Viendiel, Viearen, Vanawen, Vanroch and Viendala. This however did not spoil her, as she is perhaps the most mature of her sisters. She was very well educated by a tutor her father insisted be brought to their mansion. Her life was very much like that, whatever her father wanted is what her father got, and he always insisted on the best. This however is not exactly what Vieana wanted out of life, as it was much to lavish for her and she couldn’t help think of the peasants who hardly had food enough to eat, which drove her to want to become a doctor, or nurse, something which allowed her to heal the sick and underprivileged. It was through her wealthy father that she had met the royalty of Dol Amroth and considered them good friends of hers. By the time she turned 17, her father had also introduced her to a 25 year old, High Guard of Dol Amroth, Dardanir, whom she fell in love with and married some months later. She now lives with him in his large house overlooking the barracks.

Everdawn's post
It was nearing dusk and the wind was high in Dol Amroth, Vieana hurried down the road from the palace, clutching her basket close to her. She had previously been there talking with her friends, she had bid Tessa and Finduilas and a few other of her friends goodnight and returned home. Leaving the palace, several guards had bowed to her and she swiftly nodded back. Vieana stood at the front of the gates of her home, which she shared with Dol Amroth high guard and son of a Dol Amroth general, Dardanir. It was a huge mass of sandstone, fenced by the same material with huge cast iron gates facing the exterior. Vieana was concealed under her emerald cloak, which prompted the guard at the front of her house to call out “Halt who goes there”
“Its me!” she called laughing. The guard bowed and let her pass. “So sorry madam” he stammered. “Not at all soldier, it’s nice to know that we are protected by such fine men!” This was typical of her; Vieana was one for giving compliments. Her father always marvelled at where Vieana lived, although her house was not as nearly grotesque in magnificence as her father’s mansion. Her father had been very glad that she married Dardanir, he said “Provides you with security me dear, and a handsome income.”
Vieana opened the door to the house and placed her basket down on a near by table. “Vieana my love, are you home?” a voice called from a side room, it was the voice of her husband Dardanir. He was tall and well built, with black shoulder length black hair and dark brown eyes, the perfect picture of a man, except for a scar down his left cheek. But Vieana never minded, she said it “added character”. He walked up to her and took her cloak. And led her to the lounge where she sat in front of the fire. Husband and wife talked for some time before Dardanir asked “You haven’t changed you mind have you? You are still going to start for Minas Tirith tomorrow?”
“I am, the universities there offer the best in medical education.” She said taking her hand in his.
The colour had drained from Dardanir’s face, as it did every time she mentioned the universities. “But, Vieana, what about our plans? I thought we were going to settle here, start a family!” he frowned. “We can still have a family, and besides, its not like I am going away forever, and you yourself spend more time there than you ever do here. And you know that whenever you need to see me you can get leave, your father can see to that.” He embraced her “You always seem to get the better of me, that’s why I love you so much.” They were quiet. Dardanir spoke again “Do you think Finduilas will be happy after you know…”
“…After the sea captain incident?... You know what? I think she will be very happy.” Vieana laughed and left to pack for the next day.
Vieana had arrived in Minas Tirith along with the others the night before Finduilas was to meet her new husband. She had not time to see anything as it was dark. Vieana slept well though she was woken early the next day. “Finduilas’ big day” she sighed to herself as she opened a door to a balcony and looked upon the huge city of Minas Tirith. “I do hope she will be happy.” She spoke aloud to no one. Vieana had a dress made for the occasion. It was grey, silver and white, her favourite colours, though one would argue she wore them too often. Vieana decided to wear her hair down, and placed upon her breast, the blue lily jewel her husband had given her. Taking one final look in the mirror, she headed down the corridor after one of the servants who took her to the other ladies.
Vieana smiled in admiration at Finduilas. She looked the picture of perfection. “I am sorry I am so late” she said waving to the others. “My dear, you do look wonderful, Dethenor will not be able to take his eyes off you.”

All participants in Corsairs and Corsets:
I’m very excited for Corsairs and Corsets to begin!!
I hope I’m putting this in a way so that I do not seem elevated, but as beautiful and stunning as the other young characters are, it is important that they see Dryea as competition for her own attractiveness. This is necessary, in my opinion, because it is how she got her reputation and popularity in the citadel in the first place, along with her soothing personality. Do you see? If your opinions differ on this, please PM me so I understand.
Also, it’s going to be vastly difficult to ‘protect’ my character and keep her un-suspected for long. I have a feeling that the characters will all want to be the first to discover who she really is making Dryea a very tedious person to play. I think it is necessary to stress the fact that in order for the story to ‘work’, the characters must see Dryea as just a regular noblewoman of the citadel and an exceptionally friendly one at that. The reason Dryea and her mother were not found out all those past years is because they acted very benevolent. Even though they are playing evil characters, they are very generous and kind and no one should expect them. Suspicion only arises when Finduilas and her group don’t recognize them. Even then it’s little suspicion because their supposition is not much to go on. Only through spy work and other difficult tasks is the truth finally rendered. I’d like to stress the fact that Dryea (and her mother of course) are very caring, sympathetic, compassionate and gentle towards everyone!! Of course this will change as Dryea becomes more frantic and she will slip up bossing around maids (who will be very important as they will see Dryea’s bad side) and pass it along to their mistresses. Not at any point do I foresee Dryea ‘losing it’ in front of any noblewoman.
Durelin: Which brings me to your character-Vern. If you could, I don't understand how your character thinks Dryea and 'her whole group' from Dol Amroth are "nasty". The Corsairs have done nothing so far to cause any suspicions. That is what this whole RPG is about and it begins when FInduilas comes and then suspicions are raised, not before...I'm pretty sure that is what we decided. Manardariel, Sophia, Nurumaiel? Am I right on this?
Ooh I’m so excited I can barely stand it! Thank you loads!
Motivated,
Maikafanawen

Have you ever played in an RPG at the Barrow Downs?
Well, I am in my first now, it's called "Hunt for The Dragon". That's why I am applying for a secondary character
(Pelien's husband)
Have you posted in The Green Dragon Inn or in The White Horse in Rohan?
Haven't posted in any...
Name: Sador (Does he need a last name??)
Age: 53
Gender: Male
Race: Men, originally from Long Lake
Weapons: As a Tower Guard, he is used to carry any weapon. But he perfer and is more skilled with his hand. Sador himself means that respect is the best weapon.
Personality: Sador is a member of the Tower Guard, therfore he has become a highly respected man, but he doesn't really show it. Sador tend to show his humble side instead of pride. He is not easily frightened and would gladly participate on a perilious journey. He loves fishing, riding and write poems. He is also very fond of The Elves. And he has been studying them for a while. He wants dearly to learn more about them and learn wholly the Elven tounge. People can consider him to be a bit naive, but no one really thinks of him that way, because of his care and love for others.
Strenght/weakness: He is good with a sword in his hand. But stronger without a deadly weapon, both in mind and flesh.
Appearance: He is a tall, strong man. Very handsome indeed. His golden hair lies thick on his head. His eyes are very bright, you can see that he's a very happy person, who enjoys life with his family.
History: Sador is originally from Long Lake. In early age he moved to Gondor, then to study in Minas Tirith. His mother, father and two brothers moved after him, not many years later. As the oldest child in the family, there has always been much responsability, but he likes it tough. After many years of study he finished his education and met Pelien, who became his wife. They are happily married and have a beautiful daughter together.

Novnarwen's post
He followed his wife Pelien to greet the coming wife of Denethor, Finduilas. She was surrounded by a number of ladies all dressed in beautiful dresses with golden thread and other decorations. Pelian reached out her hand, and greeted her. “Welcome to Minas Tirith. I am Pelien and this is my husband, Sador.” Sador gave a nod and smiled. Finduilas took Pelien's hand and seemed to be quite nervous. "I't a plesure to meet you," she answered and two red roses in her cheek appeared. His wife gave a short reply and walked away proudly.
Sador wasn't able to follow her quick move and was lost in the crowd of ladies, and felt quite embrassed. He tried to sneak out, but then, when he finally did, he had lost sight of his wife. "Pelien," he sighed.
All around there were ladies and men talking merrily. Sador had got the impression that his wife wasn't that pleased. Why? he didn't know. Or well, he knew what she tought of Denethor marrying an outlander. Sador didn't really mind. But then it was his daughter, she wanted to marry the coming Steward. While half running in the big room to find his wife, his eyes fell upon Addruran. Why not Adrama? He was a nice fellow, always in a very good mood, Sador tought. He continued back towards the hall and left the pretty decorated room.
The golden hall, Sador called it. It was so bright beacause of all the windows. And the ray of light flooded in. It was not so crowded here, and the people who were gathered here didn't talk that much. Almost complete silence. Wonderful, Sador tought. all those people in there, I am not sure I am going to last.
He stirred out of one of the huge windows. The sun was still up and its' red-golden colours were beautiful. He stood there for a while just admiring and thinking of what a nice day it would be for fishing. "There you are darling!" It was the voice of his wife, Pelien.

Vern has no suspicions, I just figured the woman wouldn't be very polite and kind to an old cook. I'm sure she could only manage her mask of politeness and such to escape suspicion toward important people. Plus, Vern knows there are just some Nobles who are quite nasty toward people of lower rank than them, especially servants. Vern isn't much above a servant, or is basically one... Do you get what I mean? I sometimes have trouble putting my thoughts into words... smilies/biggrin.gif

Durelin: I wasn't going to have Dryea be mean to anyone including servants because it would be too risky for her plan. Even though she is playing evil, I'm not going to give her the stereotypical attitude that comes with an evil person...YET. It will come out in due time. She will stop taking advice from her mother and start doing things her 'own' way, consequently leading to her downfall. Vern will get her chance to be nasty to her, just not yet please.
EVERYONE PLEASE READ MY FIRST POST ON THE DISCUSSION THREAD (not my first post for the game) AS IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE GAME'S MODUS OPERANDI. THAG YOU VERY BUCH!!

AGE: 18
RACE: human
GENDER: female

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: She has strength of character, but is sometimes quick to anger. She often reacts without fully thinking things through. She is quiet for the most part, keeping to herself, but if the need arises she will defend herself.
HISTORY: Lessawen is fairly new to her duites as a ladies maid but she is grateful for the opportunity to be making her own way in the would. She is the oldest of 10 childeren. She has one older sister, 5 younger sisters, one older brother, and three little brothers. They are a close knit family with her oldest sister all ready married and with two children. Her brother is also married with three children. Her family was happy at her new prospects that go along with her new position but they were sad when it came time to bid her farewell. Minis Tirith was so far from their small community just on the ourskirts of Gondor. Lessawen has tried to do her job well and cheerfully but at night she becomes overwelmed by homesickness for her closeknit family and the small communtity where everyone knew everyone else. This city is quite overwhelming and she still has discovered her way around yet. She can find her way to the the market, and a few other places but she hasn't ventered out all that many times.
As an upstairs maid, it is her duty to make beds, brush hair and help the women of the household with their clothing. She can run a few errands for them, and will be doing more as she learns her way around a bit better. Her favorite thing is put the ladies hair up into fancy hair styles. She has learned so much all ready. She also spends some of her time helping the cook, when she is not needed upstairs. She loves the smells of the busy kitchen, especially in the morning when the loaves of fresh bread are being pulled from the ovens. She has taken her turn in the nursery as well. Taking care of the little ones reminds her of home, and eases the pangs of homesickness slightly. The children are so happy and innocent is a pleasure to see to their needs. And they often look for her when she is off duty for a game or a story.

Wren's post
Lessawen hopped out of bed eager to begin her day, for tomarrow would be her day off and these days always seemed to fly by. She dressed hurriedly in a simple grey dress with a white pinafore over the top. It had large pockets for holding her tools of the trade like cleaning cloths, combs, brushes, even toys for when she was helping in the nursery.
Today she skipped down to the kitchen to grap a quick bite to eat and help the cook prepare breakfast. She chatted chearfully with the kindly woman about her plans for the morrow. "I have learned of a park with a pond where swans and ducks can enjoy the water. I'm going to take my lunch for a picnic." She watched as the cook carefully took her bread from the oven, and set it on the wide countertop. Then Lessawen found a knife and began to slice the bread for the cook. Grinning at the older women and enjoying the smells of the fresh bread, she slathered the newly cut pieces with sweet butter. She helped the cook load up serving trays with many different kinds of fruit, not dishes, cold dishes, milk, cream, juice and wine.
Then she ran back upstairs to see if she was needed. The lady of the household was awake and needing some help with her buttons. She smiled when she saw Lessawen, because the new girl had proven herself to be gentle and careful in her attentions. Once she had the lady all buttoned up she began to brush her hair, being very careful not to pull too hard on the tangles, then she divided the woman's hair into two sections, braided each section and styled them in coils around her head.
When all of the ladies had dressed and there hair was fixed and combed to their satisfaction, Lessawen could begin her cleaning of the rooms. She carefully made the big beds. Plumping the pillows, and putting away the nightclothes. She carefully dusted the beautiful furniture with a clean white cloth, when it shining and gleaming. Then she cleaned the fireplace's ashes of the previous night. Scooping them into her bucket was a messy buisiness, and she often needed to clean herself when she was done.
Now it was time to turn her attentions to the floors. She swept up the dust which inevitably gets tracked in, and then it was time to mop. Getting down to her hands and she knees she wiped the entire floor's surface with a moistend cloth. She worked her way towards the door. With this room finished she made her way to the next. Thinking to herself, "Only nine more to go!"

Hello Wren! I don't believe I've met you before.
A few questions about your character. What group does she belong to? I believe both the "Evil" group and the Dol Amroth group have openings for maids like Lassewen. In the same vein, which character does she serve?

Have you ever played in an RPG at the Barrow Downs? – YES - Which one? In the footseps of the grey company
Have you posted in The Green Dragon Inn or in The White Horse in Rohan? – YES Which one? Green dragon
1. For your character please include:
NAME: Gwen
AGE:19
RACE: man
GENDER: female
WEAPONS: What would you consider a sense of humor and smiles are her weapons of choice from the world at large. If it were to come to it she could just throw the currant book or sewing project at an attacker but that is unlikely as few even dare to approach her. Although she does keep a small dagger tucked in her belt at al times anyway, but it is used mainly for stabbing her food.
APPEARANCE: Normal, grey eyes, dark blond to almost brown hair. She tends to have the stance of someone pondering the world, which is closer to the truth. In all reality she is wondering when someone will come up and talk to her. She wears her hair out long as if it were a nuns habit(for terms used today) and she likes it that way.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: She is generally alone. People tend to ignore her; even in groups, when she has something to be said she says it along with many other things, but no one really pays any attention. Those who are her friends and charges find that the best of friend that can be found in an odd ball. She has a dark and sometimes sadistic sense of humor that she keeps at bay when in court or in most company. She only says what she truly thinks when she is around true friends or when someone is bothering her. She would rather be in a book than in real life and real life tends to agree with her on that. She does tend, however to like her work and she does it well. Her sad feelings are hidden behind smiles. She has had a detailed study of the ground, considering that is what she sees when she walks. And when she gets angry, really angry , she can hold it in till she is out of range of the perpetrators and then she will let the tears, words, and fists fly (many have remarked on this, some are even quite impressed).
HISTORY: Most of the time she has been alone and so when her parents could get her to go serve in the court as a lady in waiting( she can go either way just PM me and I will edit this) they were happy to be rid of her(after all how embarrassing is it for a well-to-do family to have a freak in the home). She has run off most sutures her parents found, they usually say that they would take no amount of money in the whole of Middle- Earth. And her brothers are quite mean to her. She does not miss her family all that much, but she loves to work where she does.
_____________________________________________
Annalaliath's post
Gwen stood behind the other ladies in waiting as they crowded about the court as their fine mistress enter the hall she stood watching as Denther's new bride-to -be walzed in to meet her future husband. This was all strange to her, the stone, the greyness, and weightiness. She wanted to be anywhere but here. She had brought a book with her that she kept hidden in a pocket of her white apron, it bummed against her leg lazily as she watched in the huddle that consisted of the ladies in waiting. As was usual she was being ignored, and she was thinking on what the world would be like if it were all under water. What would it be like if it all were taken by the ocean, she wondered. Then she thought, “ Then we would not be here and I would not be wearing this dress.
She looked down at herself and wondered at how she stuck out. A dark blue skirt, her own white blouse and her apron. The apron had the packets, she loved her pockets. She could keep her things in them, her books, her scraps of paper, and a bit of food saved from a meal. She likes to keep her dagger with her, a happy gift from her parents, tucked in her belt. She had no other use for it other than to eat with and that is what she did. All of this is what she thought as she watched the lady enter the court. She thought it amazing that she was thinking all this because of water.
One of the other ladies there bumped into her, she looked at the woman, who was looking at her. She must have looked peevish because at that moment she just laughed and turned away, “Ahhh, don’t worry, it was only Gwen.”
“Only Gwen,” Gwen mumbled, “Only Gwen! I do have feelings you know.” Then out of the pure shock of it she turned to the woman who had been so rude and simply said, “ I like to dissect things, especially rude people.” The woman looked quite perplexed as Gwen went back to watching her mistress and pondering her thoughts.

Fellow Shire Gamers:
Please read before posting further on the Discussion Thread
Our gaming comes with a cost; it is time to reflect on this fact and make some changes to how we run our games.
We RPG’ers use the most Barrow Downs resources. We use a game thread, a discussion thread, PMs to plan games, and are constant visitors to the site, often returning more than two or three times a day to keep up with developments in the game in order to prepare our own posts.
Why is this a drain on BD resources? Please take some time to read carefully and reflect seriously upon the Barrow Wight's recent posts in the "Announcements >> The Barrow Downs" forum concerning storage space and bandwidth, chat and discussion, and the costs of running the site, and then change your posting habits.
What this means is that our Games, because we need to be so active in them, and because the Shire has so many going at once, cost the site much more money than other topics and forums on the Barrow Downs. In order for us to continue to have a good number of quality games for Shirelings to play in we need to make some changes:
What you, as participants in this game can do, personally:
What are the most beneficial changes in our posting habits? For one, we need to stop using the discussion threads for off-game-topic chatting, for personal comment. We need to restrict our posts to discussion of the games only, that is, to issues of plotting, character interaction, clarification, and notification of absences.
For most occasions, we don't need to make multiple posts about why we are absent or how we are doing and we don't need to make a string of 'see ya' posts in reply.
For personal comments, we can use the chat room or PM’s. (It’s ok to say a short ‘Nice post!’ or ‘Great post!’ if it is included with a post that has some other on-topic game information/requests on it.)
Please take the time to do several things:
Keep on topic for the Game.
Delete posts or run of the mill comments in the discussion thread that have no bearing on the game.
Refrain from such posts and comments in future discussions of the games.
Limit your daily visits to the thread.
*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ *+*
READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. ALL GAMERS WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR UNDERSTANDING THESE CHANGES.
What we, as Shire Moderators, will be doing to insure these changes are being made:
We will be following the discussion threads more closely now. When we see an off topic post – we will give the poster a warning by PM and place a post on the Discussion Thread with the poster’s name on it and a request to remove that post.
Once the warning is given, all future off-topic posts by that poster will be deleted, and that poster runs the risk of being asked to leave the game by the Moderator if such behavior continues.
The Moderator also has the option to close the Game and Discussion thread if gamers cannot stay on topic in the Discussion Thread. It will then be up to the Owner and the players to sort out problems, by PM or email, and make an agreement to keep on topic. Owners may then contact the Moderator to reopen the Game.
*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ *+*
If we all help out, we can ensure that our games remain treasures in the Barrow Downs.
Thanks for being responsible gamers and conscientious members of the Downs!

Having read over my post I thought I should probably include the part where everyone is greeting Finduilas, so I’ve edited and put a couple of paragraphs at the end, as well as changing the layout a bit. Should I PM it to you Pio, or put it up here?
And of course she'd notify the Lady Emilia about this, that was her job. It would do her quite a lot of good if –
Durelin- is this me? If not could you change the name, it might be confusing! If it is me, then what were you thinking the relationship between us would be? (Oh there’s a Master Domon, hey? Nice touch! smilies/wink.gif )

Maika- I gotchya! Here's a revised first post:
______________________________

Lyra - I knew I should have asked you about this! Really, I didn't think of a real relationship. Vern is a simple woman and doesn't know any of the Ladies well. I just made her one of the contacts of the Ladies for gossip and such. (think of the Aes Sedai, except not on such a high level) Really, I just put your Lady Emilia down since she seemed like a worthy candidate to have a contact, or perhaps the Ladies share them and Vern just thought of you to go tell for some reason. Sorry! I should have asked you! Oh, yes, and 'Master Domon' just seemed to fit. When you need a name... smilies/biggrin.gif
How does having a contact work for the Ladies of Minas Tirith? and Lyra, do you want me to edit you out? I can change my post in any way. I'm totally flexible. The only thing is that you'll have to wait. I will be gone Friday and the weeked, so there's three days where I won't be getting online. Sorry, but it's family!
Did I get everything? I hope so...

*sniff* No one wants to be in my evil group? *sniff sniff* Let's see, I need a mother and three maids ... if no one comes to play them all, can I play one of the maids? Pio, I noticed that you do this sometimes ... will you put a sort of "Heads Up" about this in the Green Dragon? Sorry if I'm a bit impatient!

Lyra, do you want me to edit you out
Nope, I'm sure Emilia would absolutely LOVE someone to give her the gossip. I suppose she could even make a sacrifice and try to be nice, since I doubt your character would have anything to do with her if she wasn't. Oh and I LOVE the sig!
My PMs are cleared out now (That's never happened to me before. I must be getting popular in my old age smilies/wink.gif ) so Sophia would you like to PM me back and we can organise it? We need a name, I think.

Have you ever played in an RPG at the Barrow Downs? -No.
___________________________________________
NAME: Meirelle - Evil Contingent
RACE: Corsair
GENDER: Female
AGE: 23
WEAPONS: A small dagger for protection.
APPEARANCE: Short (5'5") with long brown hair and blue eyes.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Meirelle is a quiet, sneaky character. Her short stature makes it easier for her to slip about and spy on people. She usually thinks things through before doing them, but when she is in a hurry she randomly decides in a panic. Sometimes she tends to be a scatterbrain. When she becomes angry, she can fly into a rage before you know it. But rather than using her fists, she uses sharp, piercing words. She works for Dryea because she has no other skills for any other jobs of higher stature. She doesn't really care who she works for, as long as she gets paid.
HISTORY: Meirelle's parents raised her to be who she was: sneaky and quick-tempered. She has been a maid for the Corsairs for most of her working life - since she was 14. Her parents wanted her to be well educated (by their standards), so they put her in school for ten years. She absolutely hated it.
____________________________________________
Horse-Maiden of the Shire's post
Meirelle awoke to another maid shaking her roughly by the shoulder. "Miss Meirelle! Meirelle! You're late for your duties!" she exclaimed, now resorting to slapping her face lightly.
Meirelle groaned and pushed the maid off of the bed, resulting in a thud on the floor. "I know," she said hotly. "Besides, I'm only..." her words trailed off as she looked at the clock in her quarters. "Half an hour?!?!? Oh, cram!!" Meirelle leapt out of bed, stepping on the maid who was still sprawled out on the floor. She grabbed her dress and hastily put it on. She quickly braided her hair into a single braid and grabbed her shoes that were sitting by the door.
Meirelle hopped down the hallway as she put on first her left, then her right shoe. She turned the corner and ran into yet another maid, who said, "Oh! You're late, Meirelle!" Her response was a grumbled "I know, I know..." She finally got to the main room, and slipped in quietly. Luckily nobody seemed to notice that she was gone, so she heaved a silent sigh of relief and relaxed.
"Make way for Finduilas, bride-to-be of Denethor II, son of Ecthelion!" A man's voice pierced the air sharply. Meirelle was jostled and shoved as people moved aside to make room for the Lady. Meirelle had to stand on her toes to look over peoples' shoulders. She hadn't caught the slightest glance of Finduilas yet, but when she did she drew in her breath sharply. Finduilas was no doubt a beauty among beauties. Denethor is a lucky man! thought Meirelle, as the Lady drew away through the passage in the crowd. The man's voice continued now: "Please continue to the Party to celebrate Finduilas' arrival in our fair city!"
Meirelle followed the others to the room where the party was held. It was decorated lavishly, with beautiful curtains and tapestries on the walls. Maids and servants were bustling to and fro. Someone tapped her on the shoulder and she spun around, to be handed a plate piled high with food. "Take this to Lady Dryea!" was the command. Meirelle made her way over to Dryea's table and handed her the plate of food. A quick glance and a small smile were her thanks as Meirelle curtsied and went off to find more duties.

I have posted in the Green Dragon.
Yes, I played a cameo role in Sailing Away and currently have a character in Dark Seduction.
Name: Averyll (one of Finduilas' ladies)
Age: 23
Race: Men
Gender: Female
Weapons: none but her wits and presence of mind
Appearance: about average height with thick chestnut brown hair and blue eyes. She is pretty but the main source of her beauty comes from within. Just out of mourning, her clothing is elegant and of fine quality, but generally rather conservative and simple in design.
History: Averyll is the eldest daughter of a successful Dol Amroth merchant. She has two younger sisters that she is very fond of but seldom gets to see. Her father married her off at a young age to a young Naval officer, who turned out to be a gambler and a "rake". He was killed roughly a year before the story starts when his ship went lost at sea, leaving Averyll a widow with a (now) three year old son. After his death was confirmed it came out that he had enormous gambling debts outstanding which, once settled, left Averyll nearly penniless. Because she is very well-liked in Dol Amroth and of good reputation, her family was able to secure her a position as a lady-in-waiting to Finduilas.
Personality/ Strengths/Weaknesses: Averyll is kind and patient to a fault. Although she barely knows Finduilas, she takes her position seriously and is extremely loyal. She never raises her voice and always tries to treat everyone, even servants, with courtesy and dignity. She does not generally stoop to gossip, but she does have a bright and curious mind, which can sometimes lead her into awkward situations. In society, she will generally try to play the part of the peacemaker, always listening to both sides of a dispute.
*+*+*+*+*+*+*+
Ealasaid's post
As they entered the great hall for the reception, Averyll, as one of the newest ladies added to Finduilas' court, found herself in the rear of the elegant party. She was not accustomed to being at court and found herself ever more and more impressed by the beauty and finery of the ladies of Minas Tirith as they swept past her on their way to pay respects to the future bride of Denethor. She glanced down at her own pale green dress with its white inserts at the sleeves and neckline that she had been so pleased with that morning, and felt instantly inferior.
"Well, it's better than mourning," she reminded herself softly. Her husband Calum, a young naval officer, had been lost at sea just over a year previous. The time since had been difficult on Averyll, but she was getting by. She thought fondly of her three year old son, whom she had been forced to leave with his grandparents in Dol Amroth. How long would it be before she would see him again? she wondered. How much will he have changed?
She sighed deeply, letting her eyes wander around the crowded room. It was ironic, the idea of her having come here for a wedding after the tragic disaster of her brief marriage. She looked forward to where Finduilas stood next to her sister Tessa, greeting the seemingly endless flow of beautiful ladies and elegant noblemen. I hope things work out better for you! she thought to herself. Not only had she lost her young husband a bare four years after their exchange of vows, but as soon as his death became known, a string of creditors had appeared at her door: gambling debts, unpaid bar tabs, unpaid bills of all kinds. Painstakingly, she had paid them all, but it had left her penniless. Out of kindness and a desire to help, her family had secured her the position with Finduilas only days before the lady's ship sailed for Minas Tirith. Now, as she watched Finduilas greet her future husband's people, Averyll felt a fierce protectiveness over the young woman.
Life could be so cruel sometimes. Finduilas would need friends in this strange new place, and Averyll intended to be there for her.

Poi asked me to repost my charecter bio if I still want to play in this game so here it is.
Have you ever played in an RPG at the Barrow Downs? – YES – Hunt for the Dragon, Sailing Away, and A House Divided will be starting soon
Have you posted in The Green Dragon Inn or in The White Horse in Rohan? – YES – Both
For your character please include:
NAME: Eleniel (Elen for short) of Dol Amroth Finduilas lady/ Dol Amroth Group
AGE: 18
RACE: Human
GENDER: Young Woman
WEAPONS: nothing but her mind
APPEARANCE: Eleniel is a beautiful young woman, though not as beautiful as Finduilas. She has long, slightly wavy, dark, black hair and long eyelashes. She has grey eyes that sparkle when she is happy and dull when sad. People say that you can tell her feelings just by looking at her eyes. She stands tall and has a thin body (but she is not a twig). Her lips are light pink and when she smiles you can she her white teeth and her adorable dimples. She has pale, soft unblemished skin, and a delicate nose. She wears beautiful but not excessively elaborate dresses in shades of green, blue, white, sliver, or burgundy, usually with gold or silver patterns of turtles (her favorite animal) A picture of what she kinda looks like (http://www.gamespy.com/avatars/av/FA/fa165.gif)
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Eleniel is young, sweet and well loved by her family and friends. She is very outgoing, and very energetic. She is smart and quick-thing. She is caring and ambitious. She is quiet but not timid. She hates being mad at people and her anger at someone usually only last for one day. People say that you can tell her feelings just by looking at her eyes. She is also: lighthearted, wary, and ready for anything, trustworthy, loyal, active, and assertive. It takes Elen a long time to have faith and believe in someone, and she is very demanding. Sometimes she can be very stubborn. Even though many think she is a sweet girl she can be rude sometimes too.
HISTORY: Eleniel is 1 of three children in her family. She has a snotty older sister, and a playful and annoying younger brother. She always had to do the chores in her house because her sister made her. She started spending more time away from her house so she could be away from her sister. She became friends with Tessa and Finduilas around this time and they became very close. When Finduilas was going to leave and get married Eleniel decided to come also (mostly to get away form her sister who even at 30 isn’t married.).
_____________________________________________
elven maiden Earwen's post
Eleniel sat up slowly in bed. She was really tired. She looked around, and it took her a few minutes to register that she was in Minas Tirith. It was Finduilas’s big day. Eleniel got up and pulled back her curtains. Bright light streamed though, illuminating her room. She began getting dressed. She pulled on a green dress. It had been embroidered on it in gold was a turtle. Around her waist a golden and green thread were entwined and sewed on. It was her favorite dress and it had been made just for her for this special occasion. She pulled her long, dark, black hair into two braids and slipped on her shoes.
Eleniel looked out the window. She could see much of the White City from where she sat perched on the long windowsill. She saw the great walls that surrounded the city. The city was awake and moving. There were houses and shops that lined the streets. There were people with horses, and just walking. There were guards, and nobles, and peasants everywhere. This absolutely, positively, unquestionably, without doubt wasn’t a boring city. Eleniel pulled open her window, and leaned outside. She felt the cool fresh air fly though her. This was a wonderful city. But still she would always think Dol Amroth better.
She shut her window and walked out of her room. I need to check up on Finduilas and Tessa she thought as she headed towards their room. *Knock knock knock* Tessa opened the door. “Good morning” Eleniel said as she followed Tessa into the room. *Gasp* There was Finduilas. “Finduilas you look beautiful!” she exclaimed. Finduilas stood there in an elegant ornately embroidered white dress. Her hair was pulled back in a sophisticated bun and her shawl was perfectly dainty and simple. Finduilas looked gorgeous. But she always did look stunning but took day she looked better than ever before.
Here dress kinda looks like this but in a deep green (http://www.ninecompanions.net/gallery_pics/tttpics/eowyn/ttt_eowyn_19.jpg)

Submitted for approval:

Have you ever played in an RPG at the Barrow Downs? - No
Have you posted in The Green Dragon Inn or in The White Horse in Rohan? - Yes, a wandering Ranger in Green Dragon
I would like to be a maid to Lady Morthaniawen, the mother of Dryea and Alethea.
~~~
NAME: Ränne (Ray-nn)
AGE: 33
RACE: Man - Black Numenorean/Haradian/Khandese mixblood (Evil Corsairs group)
GENDER: Female (unmarried)
WEAPONS: Two well-hidden knives, and just about anything else she can get her hands on quickly if it is necessary.
APPEARANCE: Ränne is an exotic mix of races, having long raven hair to the hip, though usually braided or tied up to keep it out of the way. Eyes have tight-skinned lids common to the people of Khand, though their color can vary from a slightly brown-tinted grey to a grey-tinted brown. Skin is olive and of a fair silken texture, and darkens quickly to exposure to the sun. She is tall and shaply, near 6 feet, and keeps herself in good physical condition. Her preferred dress is usually in layered silks, but usually wears the customary dress of a maid-servant of Gondor when it is required.
PERSONALITY: Ränne is rather quiet, and soft-spoken when she speaks, and is light of foot and cunning. Is usually in the background in the service of the Lady Morthaniawen of whom she is sworn to and loyal, for she brought her out of the hard life with Condemir. Ränne has been able to usually get what she needs by various means, and has always looked out for the Lady Morthaniawen by telling of what she hears on the streets.
STRENGTHS: Ränne is very observant of matters that go on abround her, and hears and sees much though little thought is usually given her unless its a command. She gets on well with the maidstaffs of others, and always is que'd to that which is said in crowds and noisy environs. She knows the languages of Harad and Khand, as well as the Common Speech though her accent is that of Harad. She has knowledge of some exotic herbs and has passed some of this knowledge to Dryea. Ränne can also cook if it is required. She knows where to place a knife for a silent kill, and has had to kill a couple times in the past, but it always brought the horrible vision of her mother's slaying before her eyes.
WEAKNESSES: Her use of some exotic herbs and her fondness to drink has caused her to have lapses in memory at times. She has willingly (and suspects not-so-willingly) tried draughts that she and Dryea have made to observe their effects of intoxication. Though in her own right she was beautiful, she always appears as a maid-servant in the presence of the Lady and her daughters, and has little self-esteem.
HISTORY: Ränne was born a product of the southern trade routes, with her father Sondach, being a wealthy Haradian trader who had bloodlines to Numenor of old, rumored in the family tales as a sea captain who shipwrecked along the coast of Far Harad during a storm. The long generations since had assimilated the Numenorean blood of that crew into the Haradian clans of the south, and some of these clans survived the great floods that changed the world (Numenor's downfall). For the most part these men appeared as that of other Haradians with the exception that they were usually taller. but every few generations one would be born with a likeness to the Numenoreans of old. Her father was one. Ränne's mother, Kharah, was a slavewoman from Khand who was bought by Sondach as a wife during one of his treks to the eastern desert. She was obedient to Sondach, and he treated her well for a time. but when she gave birth to a daughter, he became cold and abusive, for he wanted sons. But Kharah cared for Ränne well, and though she bore Sondach six sons, her firstborn was to her the most precious and taught her much of her heritage. But life was not kind to Ränne as she grew to womanhood, for it came a day when the family was in City of the Corsairs, that Sondach sold Ränne as a slave to a captain of the Cosairs named Condermir, and Kharah slew Sondach in her fury at what he had done to her beloved Ränne. The sons of Sondach in turn slew their mother, and left their sister in the hands of the captain and forgot about her.
So it was that Ränne lived in service to Condermir. She grew accostumed to the seas and life in port, but looked for a way out. The way out came when she was offered to be in the service of Lady Morthaniawen, mother of Dryea & Alethea. Her days in Minas Tirith has led to opportunities not obtainable in the south, and Ränne was finding she liked it there.
~~~
Snowdog's post
As Ränne finished helping with Dryea's beautiful hair, a smile spread across her face.
'You are ravishing Lady Dryea!'
Ränne said as the door to the chamber opened. The Lady Morthaniawen entered and Ränne stepped back behind Dryea and lowered her eyes. As the Lady motioned her dismissal, Ränne bowed slightly and said,
'I will be working in the kitchens seeing to the service of the reception if you require me m'lady.'
And with a nod she turned and left the room, letting the door close gently.
Ränne knew of the arrival of Finduilas to the City and the wedding of Steward Denethor. So to was she aware of the influence the Lady had and the aspirations for her daughter Dryea. Surely the coming of Finduilas was a threat to all that was hoped for in house Morthaniawen. As Ränne made her way to her chamber to dress, then through the halls to the kitchens. Bumping into Meirelle, Ränne said as she hurried by,
'You're late!'
Which drew a fading "I know!" as she disappeared around the corner. Ränne's skirts flurreyed about her feet as she passed a hall where much talk could be heard. The Lady Finduilas had arrived with her party, and Ränne herself was late in her duties. Having gained a position on the kitchen waitstaff, she went to fill elegant glasses with the finest in Anfalas and Befalas red and white wines. With a grace of movement, she started out about the main reception room where the Lords and Ladies were gathering and soon her tray was empty as hands helped themselves to the goblets. Ränne made her way through the gathering to set fresh-filled glasses upon her tray. She made it a point to get to where Lady Finduilas was with her entourage, and as Ränne handed her a goblet, their eyes met for a moment. Taking what she saw in them to note, she likewise served a woman with her with blue eyes, and again a smile passed from Ränne. She could see it would be a very long day on her feet, and evermore reading the intentions of the people gathered.

Have you ever played in an RPG at the Barrow Downs? – YES - Holiday in the Sun
Have you posted in The Green Dragon Inn or in The White Horse in Rohan? – YES - Both, but I didn't stay long.
For your character please include:
NAME: Rheaite
AGE: 20
RACE: Corsair (evil)
GENDER: Female
WEAPONS: Poison
APPEARANCE: Smooth tanned skin; almond shaped brown eyes; straight dark brown mid-back length hair(slightly wavey towards the bottom); 5'8"; well built. Rhe does not consider herself particularly beautiful, but is rather vain about her slim, long hands.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Rheaite, often called Rhe, is shy and quiet, a seemingly gentle soul. She's not a hothead, and prides herself on being very controlled with her emotions. She gets her kindly disposition from her father, and her looks and build from her mother. She sometimes seems curiously vacant in her manner. The pouch hanging from her belt holds all manner of poisons and various other powders. Her mother also insisted that she be educated, and so she learned to read and write very well. As well as bestowing education apon her daughter, Rhe's mother also taught her that Dol Amroth was taken from the corsairs unjustly, and that they were the true rulers of Gondor.
HISTORY: Rhe grew up in the main city of Dol Amroth, daughter of a corsair trader and an innkeeper. Her father was a kindly, though extremely shrewd man, who she loved dearly. When she was young, she spent most of her time sailing with him, away from her mother, a controlling woman who ran a successful inn. She loved her father very much, and was often puzzled why he had married her mother. When she was 13, her father died after an accident at sea, leaving her grief stricken, and her mother restricted her to the inn, where she was to stay for five more years, until she left for a position as a maid. The five years spent under her mother's thumb have made her extremely patient, as well as teaching Rhe the trick of retreating into her own head when she wanted to block something out.
Hirilaelin's post
The muffled clang of a metal vase falling to the carpeted floor startled Rheaite from her musings. She bent low, and retrieved the ornately etched vase, setting back where it belonged. So much to clean! Finduilas, bride-to-be of Denethor, would be arriving soon...
At that precise moment, trumpets sounded outside the gates, three bold, brassy notes filling the air. She must have come early! Making sure that all was in order, Rhe set the feather duster down on the low wooden table, and set off at a run down the hall. Everyone was supposed to be gathered in the enormous recieveing hall right now, and here she was, losing track of time with another of her far-fetched fantasys. Her mother's voice echoed in her memories, scolding her. "Rheaite! How many times do I have to tell you to get your head out of the clouds! Honestly girl! People will think you're not all there in the head if you stand about all slack jawed and dull eyed! Now get to work!"
Grimacing, Rhe tryed to banish the memory, but her the shrill tones still seemed to circle 'round inside her skull, screeching at her. Shaking her head furiously, she pelted pell-mell down the hall towards the grand hall. Stopping short of the doors, she brushed her dress out, patted her back into place, and slowly, cautiously, pushed open the doors. Sliding inside, she took her place in the rustling throng, closing the doors carefully behind her. Muttering apologys, she pushed towards the front to get a better view. At the far end of the cavernous room, towering doors stood open, A sudden hush rippled through the crowd, as the trumpeters called out the introductions.
After the minor ladies, servants, maids and a small group of soldiers passed through the doors, Finduilas finally appeared. Dressed in white gown with exquisite embroidery, she was stunning. Her dark, curling hair was piled on top of her well formed head in a bun, and a gauzy shawl was draped across her perfect shoulders. Rhe gaped. One to rival even the lady Dryea. She seemed to float down the hall, her perfect carriage enhancing her height and shapely figure.
But even as Rhe was admiring the lady, and thinking of what a perfect bride she would make Denethor, years of training took over. It did not matter how beautiful she was, how graceful, how perfect, she was an enemy. Even if she did come from Dol Amroth, she had agreed to marry Denethor, future steward, the enemy of the corsairs. Finduilas was nothing more than a traitor.

If you decide to do this, let me suggest that part of it (you know which....) be kept out of the public profile. smilies/wink.gif

Hola, everyone! I be Aylwen and Manard convinced me to be the Old Maid.
Name: Jacinth (<--Note the typical use of a 'J' name!)
Age: 64 (Old Maid of the Finduilas group)
Race: Men
Gender: Female
Weapons: Why, her nails of course! Not to mention her angry stare…
Appearance: Jacinth, though aging quite quickly, has the features of a once beautiful woman. In her youth, she had long and wavy brown hair that she was quite fond of. However, in her later years now, her hair is graying rapidly and she only has streaks of her once-lovely hair. Jacinth’s eyes are blue-grey and are losing the soft look they once brought, being replaced by a cold stare. Her proud stature remains, but that is about all that stays of her formerly young appearance.
History: Jacinth was the oldest daughter in one of the higher noble families in Dol Amroth, and she had always been energetic in her youth. However, as she grew older, her persona shifted to one of cold prudence. This eventually made her governess to Finduilas and Tessa. When they grew up, Jacinth still made it her job to look after them wherever they went, and despite their slight dislike of her, Jacinth always assures them that she knows what is best.
Strengths/Weaknesses/Personality: Jacinth considers herself to be very wise, and also thinks her ways of doing things is best. She also thinks she has the best taste in fashion and the latest clothing, so she always tries to have a say in Finduilas and Tessa’s dress choices, especially now that they are in the capital as honored guests. However, Jacinth is quick to jump to conclusions and has very, very bad hearing.
Aylwen's post
Jacinth nodded and curtsied elegantly on her aged knees as she walked down the line of welcomers. She was in the midst of Finduilas' entourage, following the future lady of Steward-to-be Denethor. Jacinth looked up from a young man she had been chatting to and looked at Finduilas. Jacinth had been governess to Finduilas and her sister Tessa for such a long time, for what seemed like ages. Nothing made the older woman more proud than the sight of Finduilas that day, though Jacinth still thought that she would have made a better choice of dress for Finduilas.
But the girls were growing up, or perhaps it had been even longer than Jacinth realized and the two sisters were already grown up. Jacinth pushed this thought away, thinking it foolish when just the other day she had helped Tessa with her hair and Finduilas with finding proper earrings. No, Jacinth knew that the girls still needed her. Otherwise Jacinth would not have insisted on going along with the Progress to Minas Tirith.
During the party Jacinth milled around, taking special note of the decor of the room and the style of the local girl's dresses. On more than one occasion, Jacinth would discreetly wipe a gloved finger over a dresser or table and scowl at the dust that gathered on the white glove. Perhaps Jacinth could show the maids around here how to properly clean and dust.
The only words that Jacinth really spoke during the party consisted of, "Oh, I just adore your dress!", "Oh yes, I am here with Finduilas...don't you just love her hair?" and "What was that, sweet?" Jacinth was rather hard of hearing, and on more than one occasion she had jumped to the wrong conclusion thanks to her ability to only hear bits of conversations.
At one point Jacinth had meandered her way through the crowd towards Finduilas, and once the girl was done speaking to one of the ladies of Minas Tirith, Jacinth enveloped her in a light and proper hug. "I'm so proud of you, sweet." Jacinth whispered in her ear before being whisked away by one of the other Dol Amroth girls to speak to some other Minas Tirith noble.
Thanks,
Aylwen / Jacinth

Have you ever played in an RPG at the Barrow Downs?I'm in one right now (hunt of the dragon) which is my first.
Have you posted in The Green Dragon Inn or in The White Horse in Rohan? – Nope
NAME: Betuli (Maid of the group of Findulias)
AGE: 22
RACE: Men
GENDER: Female
WEAPONS: She is a maid and therefore the only weapons she needs and uses are her hands and mind.
APPEARANCE: She is quite short, and a bit thick, but not fat. She has blonde hair that reaches her shoulders. Her big blue eyes are merry and kind.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: She is a very kindhearted and thoughtful person. She is very loyal to her employer (Findulias) an does everthing in her power to satisfy her, and make her happy. She is also quite fond of Findulias. She has a good sense of humour and is very social. (which she think is a good thing) She loves to meet new people and gain new freinds. Her strenghts lies in her hands and mind. Many people would say she is clever and smart. Betuli loves to sing and is very talented. Old songs that her mother thought her are her favourites. Betuli is very clumsy which she consider as her greatest weakness.
HISTORY: She was the only daughter of Groben and Erelitien. They were kindhearted and loving people, like Betuli. They died right after Betuli turned 20. After that she wanted to be a maid, Findulias took her in and she has been there since.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Orofaniel's post
The sun was already up and it was shining brightly behind the horizon. Betuli had already been up for several hours and was ready for a new day.
She went upstairs to see if Findulias had awoken, but she was still fast asleep. She turned and was going to the door, she didn't want to wake her yet. Some more sleep would do her well, she thought. While going trough the door it made a horrible shreaking voice and she was sure it was going to wake her, but Findulias just made a little noise and rolled over.
She hd been lucky, Betuli thought while going downstairs again. Then she came up with a clever idea (well she thought it was clever at the time), she was going to suprise her with a great breakfast on her bed in an hour. But first she was going to wash to was the kitchen and scrub the floor. While scrubbing, she started to sing an old song she learned from her mother:
"O, What a day, what a beautiful day.
Sun is up shining as bright as it may,
What more can I say?
O, What a day, what a beautiful day.
The birds are singing their fairest songs,
Let this day not fade away.
O, What a day, what a beutiful day.
Rain and cloudes away, away!
They can't destroy the summer day!
O, What a day, what a beutiful day.
May it last for ever this day
it will, if we sing all the way.
O, Merry day , Merry day.
That is what I shall call you!
Betuli had forgotten that Findulias was sleeping upstairs and she was quite suprised to se that she was now standing in front of her.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have been singing that loud. I was carried away. I hope you'll forgive me." She said in a vorried voice.
" No harm done," she replied quickly.
"Are you sure? I'm so soory and I promise it'll never happen again." Betuli said in a troubled (and still worried) voice.
"I'm just going to finish scrubbing the floor and I'll bring you a great breakfast!" She added quickly. " you just go back to bed and rest a little while longer and I'll call for you."
Findulias gave a smile and nodded while she turned around. "Nice song, by the way," she said.
"Oh, Thank you indeed. My mother thought me." Betuli said and started to scrubb again.
**Have you been in any other RPG's?**--yes, "Holiday in the Sun"
**Have you posted in the Green Dragon or the White Horse?**--yes, both.
I'm trying out for the role of Tiriel's husband.
CHARACTER PROFILE:
Name: Gaerlin
Age: 53
Race: Men
Gender: Male
Weapons: He's well trained in most weapons, but specializes in archery.
Appearance: Gaerlin is just over six feet tall; he has dark brown hair and blue-grey eyes. He's still in excellent shape, and is more than capable in his post as the leader of one of Minas Tirith's garrisons.
Character: He has a tendency to be short with people, especially when under stress from his training with his garrison. He adores his wife, and would never do anything to upset her; though he is often out at the training fields, he tries to be at home as much as possible. He has a sense of humor that can vary from amiable to scathing.
History: Gaerlin is the oldest (and only) son in his family, with two younger sisters. He joined the Gondorian army when he was young, and quickly rose through the ranks. His career came to its peak too quickly (in his opinion) though. He had hoped to become a high-ranking officer, but is still proud of his current (and most likely permanent) position in the army.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Sapphire_Flame's post
Gaerlin bowed respectfully as Siriel introduced him to Finduilas. The young girl was lovely; but seemed painfully shy. Gaerlin fell back, allowing the family to welcome the girl. Feredir drew back a pace as well.
"A beautiful young woman," Feredir said. "Denethor has good taste."
Gaerlin only nodded in reply. He had no intention of voicing any opinion on that at the moment.
It was good to see Denethor had chosen a bride at last. Many in the crowd seemed surprised that he had not chosen one of the girls in the City; but Gaerlin thought that Denethor could not have made a better choice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I presently write in Green Dragon (Vanwe character), and White Horse Inn (Ronnan and Naiore characters).
I have not role played at Barrow Downs.
Character Profile
Name: Lady Ruiel Morthaniawen - evil contingent
Age: Early 50's
Race: Corsair
Gender: Female
Marital Status: Widowed
Appearance: A handsome woman with striking features. She has amber hair that has darkened over time, blue eyes, and a creamy complexion. Ruiel was a fair young woman in her time and has ripened with maturity. Having borne two daughters, Ruiel is shapely and stands at 5' 6" in height.
Weapons: Ruiel has a sharp wit and keen senses that when softened by her feminine charms is often masked. She is well spoken, diplomatic and able to verbally manipulate most things according to her needs and will.
An experienced spy, Ruiel has developed the considerable reportoire one would expect of a veteran spy and mistress of political intrigue. Lady Morthaniawen is also known to carry a dagger as is customary for the women of her people. Like those carried by her daughters, it is of great value, antique and beautifully worked by ancient artisans.
Personality/Weaknesses/Strengths: Ruiel has a formidible aura, and little stands in her way. She carries a natural authority with her and whilst well spoken is never mistaken as meek, timid or undecided. Ruiel is a woman who knows her mind and is rarely at a loss.
She has imparted to Dryea all that she has learnt over the course of her career. Riuel possesses a sharp, analytical intellect, is perceptive and has a mercurial wit. She is self-possessed, and her inner thoughts are rarely shared with any around her in their true form.
Riuel is always aware of advantages to be gained in how others perceive her or her daughters and has a political accumen that is pre-eminient. Since the death of her husband, Riuel has assumed a position of authority that noone thought to question.
Riuel is a highly disciplined woman who closely guards herself. She has a thirst for power that rarely sleeps and an uncanny ability to position herself so as to reap the most reward from any given situation. She can be merciless and cold and rarely forgives another for a transgression. Ruiel's temper, when it does emerge, is violent and incindary. It burns cold and long. She is a woman who nurtures both graces and grudges. Both can be used to her advantage.
Ruiel is a woman who has spent her life in courts and political cicles of varying descriptions. Accordingly, she is a court trained Lady, familiar with diplomatic and cultural expectations, languages, protocol and socialisation. She considers these as much weapons as camoflague for the real business of power, and has instilled them in her daughters accordingly. A proud and vain woman, Ruiel's weakness is her moral expediency and addiction to power.
History: Ruiel Morthaniawen grew up in a priviliedged Umbarian family which was not a major power and yet had influence within her court. Her father recognised her talents early, and seeing an opportunity to win greater position, gave his daughter to the Umbarian government. There, she was trained by the Spy Masters in the arts of espionage, spying, reconnaisance and assassination.
Ruiel showed a natural talent for navigating the circles within circles, and an ability to emerge in tact from the most dangerous of situations. Ruiel quickly advanced and completed assignments that inferred prestige to her father and saw her family advance within the court of Umbar.
Ruiel was married off to the heir of a powerful House and produced two daughters, Dryea and Alethea. It was a marriage of political gain and expediency, and Ruiel felt no love towards her husband. He was a means to an end. The business interests of her husband's House meant Ruiel and her daughters often moved about through the coastal cities and towns. Ruiel turned her attentions to her children, instilling in them what had won her so much power and influence in the male political world of Umbar.
Ruiel was by that time ensconced in a position of secret power, and forced to hide her activities lest it overshadow her husband's House. As she steadily garnered power and established her own networks, Ruiel's relationship with her husband became more and more distant. When he died, Ruiel wasted little time on grief and assumed the reigns proper. Few equivocated with the now formidible woman.
Now the matriach of a powerful House, Ruiel blossomed and with her so did her daughters, Dryea in particular who proved herself most related to her mother. Alethea seemed more related to her father, Lord Morthaniawen. Recognising Dryea's considerable ability, Ruiel took her elder daughter closer under her wing, and made her protege in most of what she did. She was not overcome with maternal pride as to trust her daughter with all things though, for Ruiel recognised the sharp hunger that moved within Dryea could consume her in time.
No longer burdened with the facade of a loyal wife and mother, Ruiel become more active in her work, primarily directed against Gondor and her vassals. The ancient enimty between Gondor and Umbar had not abated, and her hatred of Gondor and her people spread also to fertile ground within Dryea's mind and heart. Over the years, Ruiel executed tactical moves to impanel herself within Dol Amroth's power circles, adopting a Sindarian name to replace her childhood name and Lady Ruiel Morthaniawen and her two daughters came into existence.
Once there, Ruiel worked doggedly over the years to strengthen and consolidate her position in Dol Amroth. She navigated setbacks and manipulated advantages to progress far and was anticipating the culmination of her ultimate goal: to hand back to Umbar their ancient lands, usurped by the rabble refugees from Numenor. Dryea had been working alongside her mother for some years to this end.
The advent of Finduilias' wedding to Ecthelion respresents an intolerable impediment to this. Ruiel will stop at nothing to see it undone, including the sacrifice of her daughters if that proves either necessary or expedient. Nothing is indispensible to Ruiel Morthaniawen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elora's post
Lady Ruiel Morthaniawen critically examined her daughter's appearance. Dryea was an flawlessly beautiful woman and on this occassion there could be no flaw. Too much was at stake and the Gondorian nobles would be paying close attention. Already Ruiel had recevied word of the bubbling resentment towards Finduilias and the Dol Amroth contingent, an encouraging possibility not to be squandered by a wrong footed entrance now. Finding no blemish in her radiant beauty, Ruiel smiled at her daughter.
"Exquisite," she said in approval, her voice it's usual cultured alto musical tone. Ruiel waved the maids from the chambers after favouring one in particular with a small smile. The dressing completed, and stood beside her fair daughter before the mirror. Youth and maturity stared back at her. Ruiel smoothed the luxuriant nap of her indigo, paneled gown that fell in graceful folds from her lush, curved hips. The bodice, tightly bound to her ripened torso, emphasied the feminine curve of her figure. Ruiel, though not in the grip of youthful beauty, was a woman come into the maturity of her own handsomeness.
"What about jewellry," Ruiel prompted. Dryea crossed to the richly carved vanity to finish her preparations. She stowed a dagger, delicately worked for all it's lethal edge, and tucked it into her glorious crimson gown. The decadent colour set her golden skin off to perfection, as had been intended when the bolt of fabric had been purchased some weeks ago and sent to the dressmakers for work.
Ruiel, who saw all as an investment that must provide her the expected return, the cost of the wardrobe she'd commissioned for this journey was well invested. Her daughter was as beautiful and deadly as the dagger she had hidden in her dress. Her daughter added a extraordinary medallion and fine golden bracelets that gently chimed to her slim wrists. Then she turned to re-examine her appearance.
Dryea lifted her chin at her reflection and satisfaction gleamed in her sapphire gaze. "Splendid," Dryea finally agreed.
Ruiel, amber hair was wound intricately around her head, turned for the door to see where her other daughter dallied. On her fingers gleamed a fiery ruby set in an ornately carved ring, the betrothal ring of her dead husband. A golden torc, twisted delicately into trailing vines and flowers by a clever smith, gleamed at the base of her long throat. The heavy fabric of her gown whispered as she walked, augmented by Dryea who accompanied her.
Alethea emerged from her chambers, dressed in the gold gown as Ruiel had instructed. Well pleased with her daughters, who would gleam as jewels in Gondor this day, bright and beckoning to the already beleaugered Finduilias who was also newly arrived from Dol Amroth. If the child did not take the bait, then it little mattered to Ruiel. The trio smoothly walked towards the hall where the lords and ladies in attendance were gathering.
"We will cross bridges as we come to them," Ruiel gently reminded her daughters, moreso Dyrea who had glanced at her mother prior to entering the hall. Standing graceful, they moved like swans through the knots of people, Ruiel nodding here and there to those faces it suited her to acknowlede until they came to Lady Finduilias.
Her youth was striking, as was her beauty. Denethor had not chosen from his own city, but Ruiel could see why he had risked the censure of his nobles to snatch up Finduilias. That was all well and good, provided the child did not impede more imporant matters, like the cedeing of Umbar's lands back to them in accordance with ancient birthright. No vassal of Gondor, no matter how beautiful, would stymie her on that score.
Dryea and Alethea stood on either side of their mother, hands clasped elegantly before them and schooled expressions of charming welcome upon their faces. Ruiel herself curved her lips into a motherly smile of greeting, and swept into a graceful cursty before the bride.
"Lady Finduilias, greetings and felicitations on your impending wedding. Lady Ruiel Morthaniawen of Dol Amroth at your service."
Finduilias smiled, anxious in this strange place with it's cool Gondorian nobles around her. Ruiel had calculated her smile, warmth and the familiar name of Dol Amroth to be a powerful relaxant. She smoothly rose once more.
"I introduce to you my daughters, Dryea and Alethea, who had accompanied me to witness the glorious upcoming event," Ruiel said. Dryea and Alethea curtsied sweetly, allowing Ruiel the opportunity to covertly guage the level of attention they were garnering. More than one set of eyes focused on their gathering, notably upon Dryea, as Ruiel had hoped.
She returned her focus to Finduilias, who in turn greeted her daughters. Ruiel projected comforting, gentle warmth through her smile at the bride, a stranger in this less than receptive court. Then, she stepped back to allow Finduilias to continue with the procession of greetings. Time would see if the girl was so alone here as to reach for a seemingly comforting presence of a friend. Flanked by her daughters, Ruiel continued her inspection of those gathered. Yes, she thought with the confidence of experience as she looked about, even should the girl prove recalcitrant and aloof there is still much to work with here. Lady Morthaniawen wrapped her anticipation and satisfaction around her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope that suffices. I thought it necessary to have Dryea and her family (mother and sister) familiar in Dol Amroth to better garner Finduilias' trust. Hence, I have named Ruiel on a Sindarin derivation that is not, in reality, her Umbarian name. Ruiel's identity is closely guarded. I hope that construction of identity will not be problematic, however it can be altered if it does.
I look forward to your feedback. smilies/smile.gif

Oooooh!!! *giggles* Elora!! Perfect! Oh I'm so glad you advertised for the character! Just what I'd hoped. You're a magnificent writer and your varied vocabulary makes your posts enjoyable to read. It really re-sparked my excitement in this, up until now, rather slow moving RPG. I can't wait!
About when will the RPG thread actually open?
Yes, in order for whoever reads the RPG to be completely captivated, wouldn't it be brilliant if the corsairs seem to vanquish about three quarters into the RPG, then Dryea makes her drastic mistake--hee hee--and the ball is thrown and Finduilas makes her conquering speech.
This brings an idea, let's begin outlining the plot. I don't want it to get too confusing like RPGs sometimes do ... *coughcough* smilies/wink.gif

maikafanawen I'm blushing.... smilies/redface.gif such praise hardly befits me! Yet, I too am looking forward to this. The depth of character articulation and definition looks to be fantastic.
I envisage a need to coordinate individual character plots with those of our contingents (the good, the bad and the ugly so to speak) to ensure the overally story flows coherently with with lucidity.
On a personal note, from time to time, I pre-prepare posts for critical junctures over time as this allows me to incorporate relevant contextual detail from the preceeding posts of others. Layer by layer, I build it up. It's the only way I can manage it, particularly when a plot is underway with a wide range of individual characters. My poor memory cannot handle holding all the relevant details in place, so I need to write them down one at a time and do some homework posts.
I find this technique can work well to ensure that on the whole, readers get an integrated story, that flows smoothly from one character to another.
I'm not suggesting that we all do this, but it's a tip that works for me.
However, my suggestion is that we start forward planning the overall story, and perhaps communicate within our contingents specific character plots to coordinate. That way, we can all be surprised by what the "other side" gets up to and still remain on the overall rp track.

Same with me Elora. It does make it easier, and makes the story flow better, also makes the posts longer and then more interesting.
So when is the RP starting? Friday? I am so gald we finally filled the character lists!

This was posted on the 27th of June
Unfortunately, Manardariel will be gone for 1 week due to personal reasons, so the game will be delayed until she returns.

Hi!
I am sorry, but I'll be gone for about two weeks from now. And therefore not be able to post. But since my character, Sador, is a secondary character I guess it doesn't really matter.. am I right?
Anyhow, if you want him in the story, at this early point, would one of you save a spot for me , where you think it's necessary, and I'll fill it in as soon as I can.
I am looking forward to play when I come back...

Actually I'm going away for two weeks from today too! well, I'm going away for one week now and then after spending 3 days at home I'm leaving again. So therefore, as Novnarwen, I will not be able to post before I'm home again, I doubt I'll have computer access. But, please if you see that there should be a maid's post in the story, make a save and I'll fill it as soon as I can. You can also just write what you want with my character until I get back. I hope I don't cause to much of a problem.
Thank you!

Unlike Elora I am rather more haphazard in my writing, doing it on the fly, usually at work while many of other things are going down around me. I however do try and read through all the posts and see where my character has been or could be worked in and incorporate it. I usually 'build' my posts on outlook and proofread it and refresh the story thread to make sure no others have posted while I was writing, and make adjustments accordingly.
I am not available to post on weekends, so I will have to do any catch up on Mondays. I will do my best to stay with the story and cause subtle mayhem and ... well, be Ränne! If this starts on Friday, I may have to post either on Friday late if it is going by then, or wait til Monday to post my '2nd post'. Either way, I look forward to writing with you all!
Happy Writing everyone!

Just to let you all know I will not be able to post on the weekend after the 4th of July weekend(confused yet?). I am going to see my brother and his family.
Also on the day of July 25 and for a few days after I will be getting certain teeth removed, as such the pain killers may impeed my writing so I will see if Spohea or someone else will post for me then.
Other than all of that the weekends may be a bit sticky(stepfathers and their stupidity, not to mention nosyness) for doing any internet, but I will try( I try to keep LORT stuff to a minimum around my mom's on account her husbamd has no imagination. Unless it involes killing people). Other than those slight and most recent probelms I can get on at least once a day during the week; unless school, work or parents hinder me.
PS please PM me if I posted this in the wrong spot. If I needed to PM this to the others let me know and it shall be so.....

Erm... lest I be mistaken for a more organised and professional contributor than I have any right to pretend to be, I feel the need to say something.
I don't pre-plan posts as a habit, outside of thinking through plot possibilities and consequences. Usually, I read through the preceeding posts, if necessary scrawl a few hasty reminders, and hatch something whilst on line.
I will take a tip from Snowdog though.... doing a refresh for any posts that came about whilst I was hatching something would probably make my life and that of those who post with me much easier. Spell check would also help too...
Thanks for those pointers. smilies/smile.gif
Only for the really "big" or important critical incidents will I do some homework... and it's my usual shoddy standard of detail too. I've found even that can help crystalise ideas and test which ones work and which ones are doomed to the scrap heap (a presently twisted and large heap).
For example, in concocting the neer-do-well mother of Dryea, I did that on the fly after a few hasty scrawls concerning her daughters. Copying and pasting their profiles and opening post helped me correlate mine to these so that they meshed. As it was the opening post, that which framed the character and set the tone for her future actions, I felt it important enough to double check consistency.
Anyways, I suspect it's a much of muchness, so long as we have something that works for ourselves and those we have the fortune of writing with.
Right now, I need to reacquaint myself with what I dashed off last week. For example, what is my character's name? My memory has lapsed and I forgot to write it down. So you can see why homework is a necessity for me on the important posts. smilies/redface.gif smilies/wink.gif smilies/tongue.gif

Hey everyone! I´m back, and back at last! smilies/smile.gif
Ok, about Plot outline: I agree with Maika that there should be some of this; cause this RPG will get rather confusing. If you haven´t done so yet, please read the Planning Thread (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=22&t=000055). There we desided on this basic plot outline.
Anyone is welcome to post their ideas, or waht they (don´t) agree with.

One thing I forgot to note.
Not all of us are on US Eastern time. Some of us are a long way off it. I know this affects me. So, should there be developments in the plot or RP whilst I'm sleeping on the other side of the world, I'll play catch up.
I don't anticipate this to be a problem, as I've yet to participate in a role play with people on even a similiar time zone to me. However, I find it useful to point this out.
Sometimes, it can seem that I'm absent, when in fact I'm just in a different time zone... and usually a different day for that matter too. smilies/smile.gif

Okay, I'm excited...we're starting tomorrow, so I have a few questions.
1) Shall our 'second posts' still be at Finduilas' introduction or are were starting with the day after? (I think it would be rather confusing to just start with the next day.)
2) Minas Tirith Group - we need to do some planning. Since we will be meeting the day after the 'party', we need to decide when and where. Pelien is the eldest of the group and I'm sure she and Adrama would host the dinner or tea or whatever we decide on. If not, maybe Denethor's sisters? I've PMed Sophia about this, so what does everyone else think?
3) Durelin - do you think Vern could cook for us at said dinner?
Okay, I'm sure I'll have more later... smilies/wink.gif

As I pmed Alaklondewen already, Siriel and Tiriel will be attending the gathering, but they will not want to host. Here's why: Tiriel is very conscious of family relationships, and as Siriel and Denethor still live in the same house, it would be very unwise for Siriel to host a gathering where Finduilas might be criticized. While Siriel would almost certainly want to, but Tiriel has talked her out of it. Tiriel, on the other hand won't want to host it, as she's determined to be polite to Denethor's bride. She's likely going to be something of a voice of reason among the jealous MT girls.
Outline looks grand, Manardariel, I'll do some pm-ing tonight, I can do it all if you want me to.

(I think it would be rather confusing to just start with the next day.)exellent question, alak! Ok, I´d say start with the party, or the evening after it, but continue your post to the next day. Like, you can finiush with your character waking up the next morning and for example, getting an invitation to Pelien´s.

okay if we are to break down the reputaion of the good guys, how is my character supposed to do that, as far as I know she doesn't have any freinds yet. Oh yes and another thing, does my character's employer, Dryea, even trust her.... what is her station there. These are just things I want to know about other people's characters. I have played one other character that no one trusted because she wanted to kill everything.... Any way that is what I need to know. I already know she is not well liked around court..... I‘m not sure what you meant, Annalaith but I thought I was very clear in pointing out that as of now (and until halfway through the game when vanquish for Dryea is almost inevitable until she is bowed off-track) everyone trusts and loves Dryea. I was even thinking that Lyra Greenleaf’s character (since I’ve noticed she’s a constant boy-snatcher smilies/wink.gif ) could mayhap be friends, upping Dryea’s reputation as just another beautiful Citadel Lady deferring all suspicions away from her at a time. I’m not sure yet how Lyra wants to develop her character so she could use Emilia’s friendship with Dryea as an opportunity to gain status or as a true friendship thingy.
I was thinking, so that it’s not completely obvious that Dryea is really just poisoned honey, that she would at first sort of avoid Finduilas--along with the other Minas Tirith crowd--just out of “jealousy” or “intimidation”. Then when they sort of start to mingle I guess, she would soften up. However, by then, Dryea would have begun to get nervous that her plan may turn out to be disastrously flawless. smilies/evil.gif
That’s my beginning two cents for the plot outline.

Instead of everyone in the Minas Tirith group receiving invitations the next day, I will have Pelien personally invite a couple of the ladies and post that she had already talked to the others. So the next morning, the ladies will already know about the lunch that day at Pelien's.
I think their having lunch instead of dinner will allow them to be more casual, and they won't have to bring their husbands. smilies/wink.gif

As far as the story goes.. I would say that the 'evil' group would be for now a part of the Minas Tirith 'inside' group. Anyway, that is how I envisioned Ränne's role when I wrote the first post. That is why she is trusted as a servent to royal functions, mainly due to Lady Ruiel's influence in Ecthelion II's court. Ränne had gotten rather close to Ruiel in the years since she 'rescued' her from the Cosair sea captain, and is loyal, but above all is a survivor smilies/wink.gif smilies/wink.gif.

Your post looked great to me, Snowdog.
A word from one of the game owners (me smilies/wink.gif):
If Ruiel, Dryea, and Alethea are to be at all the kind of characters we envisioned them as in the planning thread (which you all should have read), then it is necessary that everybody accepts them as part of the Minas Tirith crowd.
That aside, the groups are still distinct, though we're not acting like they are right now. Everyone should be familiar with who the other characters in their group are. Elora, Arien, Maika, you need to know which players play your maids. Same for Finduilas' ladies, and the Minas Tirith girls. smilies/smile.gif There are a lot of characters in this game, so if we don't know who everyone is, it's likely to get very confusing.
To make this easier I am posting a complete list of all the characters according to groups, since a survey of this thread shows me that there hasn't been one yet that included both reserved and later characters.
Minas Tirith Residents
Siriel & Tiriel- Sophia
Pelien- Alak

Everyone This game is really confusing, mainly because there are so many people, soo I suggest you read through the plotline well. See where you´re character may fit in, and maybe start planning a post. To avoid confusion, it may be a good idea to always state where your character is, or make it obvious. Right now, we are at Finduilas´ welcoming event. This is a good site for some character-interactions. Make clear who your character´s friends ae, and who she tends to avoid. Give the reader n idea what´ll be up in this game, for example by gossiping.
Sophia and/or Nuru- I´ll send you a PM with the details, but could one of you do a "final" post announcing the end of the party sometime tonight (your time)? Thanks a bunch!

What is the policy of bringing in secondary characters such as Lyra did with Beren and Lorena? I would like to have a sort of 'special person' for Dryea. Is there a secondary character bio I should fill out for him? I've seen this done in other games, is it the same for this one?
He's going to be from Minas Tirith and obviously greatly disapproved of by Ruiel--heh heh--no but Dryea will be secretly in love with him though not show it and it's going to help with her downfall. It's going to take a lot to bring her down so I thought I'd bring him in there too.
Is this okay?

Secondary characters require the permission of the game owners.
Fill this out and submit it to the game owners. They will discuss it and approve or disapprove. If they approve, post it on the Discussion Thread then and go ahead and use the character:

You need not go into depth on each of the sections - but the description must give the owners a clear idea of the character.
_____________________________________________
All Players: please note the Shire policy on 'Save's in a game:
20.) Clarification of using 'SAVE' in an RPG
Reasons:
Often, writers, because of work schedules, or time zone differences cannot post when the majority of the other players are on. In order to keep the game rolling along, they will post a 'SAVE' when they note a part of the game they need to respond to. They can then make their posts when their schedules are free to do so.
Uses:
To provide an opportunity for the writer have a space where he/she can insert a post so that it will follow logically in the storyline.
Rules:
Keep the 'SAVE' option to a minimum. Don't use it for a crutch, thinking you will get back to the post later - this usually doesn't happen.
'SAVE's should be gone back to and posted on within a 24 hour time period.(& preferably less time than this)
'SAVE's should contain a brief, even one sentence description of what the poster intends to post about.

Alright, here's my bio for my secondary character. Please consider him thoroughly I BEG you. smilies/biggrin.gif
NAME: Rhircyn Isindil
AGE: 37
RACE: Gondorian
GENDER: Male
WEAPONS: He owns a sword called Pelcatus--that he wears at balls. He is not part of the guard but would “enlist” straight away if needed to defend Gondor.
APPEARANCE: Rhir has tousled brown hair, and soft gray eyes. He is tall at about five foot eight inches with broad shoulders and a thin but strong build. He wears the clothes of nobility.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Rhir is a gentleman. He is kind, loyal, romantic and witty. He studies politics in Minas Tirith and hopes to gain position under Denethor when he becomes the Steward of Gondor. His weaknesses are Dryea and the fact that he trusts her completely.
HISTORY: Rhircyn is the youngest of two boys born to Amowiel Mirendebeth (mother) and Gaenry Isindil. His older brother, Earang is five years his senior and married with three children. The Isindils are a family of the highest status in Osgiliath. Rhircyn, not having the heart for battle, was given permission to study in Minas Tirith: where he met Dryea. Dryea didn’t charm him intentionally and is actually falling for him.
Okay that's it. Very short. smilies/biggrin.gif

Nuru- Looks great to me, I read your post Maika, he looks fine smilies/wink.gif.
Lyra- check pms! smilies/biggrin.gif
Alak- Siriel hasn't yet responded to Pelien. I had a lot to respond to with that post, and it is still in progress.
Nuru or Manardariel- ending the party now is fine, I can do it when I respond to Pelien.
Everyone- to clarify on what Manardariel said before about marking your posts, it would be extra super helpful if you could put a bold title at the top like "Finduilas' Welcoming Party" or "Pelien's Tea Party" or what have you, so that it is immediately clear what part of the story your post corresponds to. (Thanks Pio!)
Also, there's a difference between a secondary character and a character like "Beren" who appeared in Lyra's post. A secondary character would be one who would not be a major player in the story, but would have some impact on events (subplots) and would appear consistently. Mentioning another person whom your character happens to know, but who will not be in the story aside from a few fleeting mentions doesn't require bio. (Feredir, Siriel's date at the Welcome event will be one of those).

Manardariel, sorry the post was so long in coming. I won't make any excuses, I'll just apologize. *little bow* For any posts coming after the ball, should they be the next day, and what time if so? Or should the players do 'going to bed' type posts?

Sophia- I saw this in your post;
Several hours later when the chamber maids came in to tidy the washroom the sound of the two women whispering and giggling like little girls could still be heard behind the bedroom door. The maid shook her head, and then moved to pick up Síriel's dress, which had been abandoned on the floor in a turquoise pool.
And I was wondering who the maids are. Since your character are Minas Tirith and there aren't any maids from there (that I can see), the maids you mentioned in your post would be from either Dol Amroth or from the Corsairs Group.
Maybe this was silly, it's just that I need to sorten things out, because there are sooooooooo many people in this RPG.....I get confused, you know.. smilies/eek.gif

Orofaniel: There are more characters than you think. Those maids could be any of the hundreds of maids around Minas Tirith working for the citadel nobles. I'm not sure if Sophia meant them to be specific maids or not but keep in mind that there are hundreds more people in the citadel (maids and nobles) that will come up in posts besides the regular characters played by all of us.

Orofaniel: If you're still confused after reading all the posts in order and reviewing the game sheet at the beginning of this discussion thread then I don't know what to tell you except to take notes? Good luck
I've been saying this a lot but I think it's important. Dryea has to "win" two-thirds of the way through the game. It's important because a reader knows that good usually triumphs, it's precisely how they triumph that makes a story exciting.
Act III- suspicions
The Minas Tirith gang finally resolves that 1)Finduilas is not who she appears to be, and 2)they need to do something about her.
Finduilas plans a masquarade.
Dryea and Aleathea quarrel.
Act IV- an unpleasant suprise
The masquarade:
Minas Tirith group confronts Finduilas about being evil.
They realize their mistake.
Dryea openly humiliates her sister.
Dryea should win somewhere around Act III or IV. We should group Dryea's blunders together as well. Instead of having her quarrel with Alethea and then humiliating her and then blundering in four different Acts, she should begin messing up towards the end of the masquerade--where she believes she wins. In her triumph, she slips up and then quarrels and humiliates Alethea causing her sister to betray Dryea and her mother.
This is the outline from Act III on that best fits my idea:
Act III - suspicions
The Minas Tirith gang finally resolves that 1)Finduilas is not who she appears to be, and 2)they need to do something about her.
Finduilas plans a masquarade.
Act IV - an unexpected suprise
The masquarade
Minas Tirith group confronts Finduilas about being evil.
They start to second-guess their supposition.
Siriel(?) believes that Dryea started the lie on purpose for some yet unclear reason.
The Morthaniawens assume they've triumphed at the conclusion of the masque.
Act V - the eye-opener
Dryea blunders
Vern gives the message on to everyone else
Minas Tirith & Dol Amroth groups become friends
Dryea & Alethea quarrel
Alethea pays a visit to Finduilas telling her everything she knows
Act VI - a fatal party
Finduilas' engagement party
The Minas Tirith/Finduilas group decide to strike
Finduilas' speech
Dryea realizes they know and runs
Act VII - It is over
(same ending)
Is this acceptable?

OK, I haven't been swallowed by a giant flying turtle, so I thought I'd jump in and post a few days ago.
As I read through what had already preceeded, and wonderful work one and all smilies/smile.gif, I got the sense that the Ball was ending and so posted Ruiel from that perspective.
Please, oh please, can Dryea have her Rhir. Ruiel would not be a truly evil mama unless she decided poor, hapless Rhir was going to go bye-byes if he continued to mess with her daughter.
After all that grooming, Ruiel is not about to let love get in the way and mess things up. Not that Ruiel has the power to vanish him. However she certainly will consider encasing his feet in alabaster and throwing him into the Anduin. smilies/evil.gif
Kidding. I'm just trying to point out that Ruiel will not be at all favourable inclined towards Rhir, will think little of him as she does all men (particularly that Corsair captian that Ranne was yoked with some years ago). She's a dangerous woman in her own right, she so may not restrain her antipathy to mere contempt and lectures to her daughter.
Can I say that we have some wonderful work here on this role play. There are some logistical issues inherent with this many players. I know I'll be taking notes from time to time to make sure I don't misplace other characters in Ruiel's posts.
As for the insider/outsider debate concerning Dryea and gang, I believe they must be seen as legitimate denizens of the court, else they have no position from which to influence others. This will be necessary to set them up for the planned fall they will be taking. Who would listen to Dryea if she was considered some stranger to the Minas Tirith courts?

Well yes, it can be confusing if you try and remember every single detail. The way I handle it is I 'pre-read' all the posts since my last one and make note of the actions of the characters my character will or may soon have interaction with, primarily the Corsair group at this point. After making notes on these characters actions, I then go back and read the posts, again taking notes of the descriptions of the locations, and the other characters' actions and interactions. I then formulate my post on Word or Outlook, and make tweaks and corrections, and then check for any additional posts before posting. Of course some of the actions are happening concurrently, but the overall flow of creativity is usually intact. its also good not to get too hung up on minute details.
Anyway.. off to read... smilies/smile.gif
Edit: I see the paradox, and I guess it could be corrected by a tweak in a couple posts so the confrontation between Ruiel and the sisters, or just Dryea happens in Ruiel's chamber? Well, it will be Thursday morning in Australia soon and so Elora will be on soon maybe.
Meanwhile, Ränne is going to post... which may be subject to edit pending the resolution of the paradox.

I don't really tend to make extensive notes - I don't usually take notes at all in games, although with this one it seems I'll have to. It is always useful, though, to write your posts on Word - that way you can keep the game up and check on details. It's also good to check that your spelling isn't totally messed up smilies/smile.gif

Maika- about the plot outline, that´s perfect. Afterall, Dryea´s your character and we game owners are only human, do we TOTALLY apprechiate stuff like this...right, Nuru and Sophia?! And I was thinking....the blunder, could that *by any chance* have something to do with Rhir? Just an idea... smilies/redface.gif
Elora and Snowdog Okay, you guys are doing a wondeful job. Keep the evil! smilies/biggrin.gif
Orofaniel there is a simple solution to your problem- don´t remember 24 personality traits. You´re a maid, so you should first focus on the people you interact with- maids, and Vern. Remember most names of the other players, but that´s really it. If you´re interacting, you can always go back to the discussion and check there. Just a piece of advice there
Ladies, do you think you could start lunching by tomorrow, 1 pm Eastern time? Is that realistic?

As Snowdog proved so clever in figuring out the time and day here in Oz, I feel compelled to try and do the same.
Apologies for the mistake in logistics Maikafanawen. I did indeed miss it, the danger of posting whilst tired. I have since edited, so that the confrontation between Dryea and Ruiel takes place in Ruiel's chambers.
Now, I did write some dialogue for your character, something I prefer to abstain from until I am better familiar with a character's lexicon and style. I didn't add the emotional state behind Dryea's words, but expect that she'd be incensed, anxious and upset at her mother's overbearing interference. I thought I was pushing the line far enough with the dialogue and didn't chance it further with the underlying character emotional state.
Hopefully, I've amended my gaff, and I do apologise. I know this edit comes to you on Wednesday evening (ta da - show off mastery of international time zones smilies/wink.gif ) and appreciate the gracious patience of all concerned.
I shall endeavour to prevent this sort of obvious mistake occuring in my posts again.

Personality- likes female attention but doesn't like the idea of settling down. He goes for empty headed bimbo types and breaks their hearts...which is why he gets more than he bargained for with Siriel and Emilia! Brave, witty, a good leader.
History- Thenidir is a Guard of Gondor, he's been away for years, on duty in the more isolated parts of the kingdom, has just returned to Minas Tirith from a shift at the Outer Beacons.
Also, Maikafanawen- Siriel will be happy to be the first to suspect Dryea smilies/wink.gif.

Maika - In the plotline, it says Vern or someone else will be attacked. I'd...love to have Vern attacked, if you know what I mean, so, if that works...
Also, I need someone to give Vern a sort of 'invitation' into the Minas Tirith group. Being only a little above a servant, and the rest of the group Ladies...just for realism's sake (well, as close to real as we can get) Vern needs to be brought up a level.
Oh, yeah, I have this character that I am going to let drift into my next post, and I was wondering if I could use him as a carry along character. He's just another servant in the kitchens, and he helps to tip off Vern. If not, he'll just appear once or not at all, it really doesn't matter.
Thanks!

I hadn't intended to use Gwinniel, Diorwyn's teacher and "boss" during her seamstress apprenticeship in Minas Tirth, more often, but she will show up occasionally as a contact person for my character. Does she need a detailed description?
Her age is not known; though she is quite old, she is still vigorous and active, running her shop with tight reins. She is more gentle than she lets on, and her intelligence makes her a formidable friend - or foe! Since she knows and trusts Diorwyn, she will be a help in uncovering some of the plot.

OK, I had this idea which will horrify most purists and probably even a good number of reasonable revisionists, still I think it has some merit.
As it is the basis of my post for Ruiel's morning, I thought I should explain it and see what the general consensus is.
Rumour is taking root that Finduilas is not whom she says she is, all well and good. Ruiel though, is interested in toppling the rulers of Gondor and replacing them with Umbar's rule (with pretensions to the throne for herself in typical power grandeur delusions). It fits with her as she considers herself quite superior to most others.
Therefore, I got to wondering about the next natural progression of the rumours: Finduilas' "real" identity. I figured the most damage would be done if she came from a despised Numenorian family, and none could be more so for the Faithful that settled in Middle-Earth than the descendants of Ar-Pharazon the ruler that caused the sinking of Numenor.
Now, there is no mention of any survivor of his family, and so I am making a large revision to suggest that one did survive, flee with the refugees to Middle-earth. There, he was reviled by his fellow refugees, the shame of his family so intense given the circumstances of Numenor's last King. Therefore, Finduilas would be eager to conceal her identity now.
This has potential, in my opinion, for a number of reasons. Firstly, the stigma of that false "real identity" would be hard for Finduilas to escape from. Secondly, for the Umbarian contingent it would be simple to spread incriminating details on the Ar-Pharazon connections to Finduilas. Umbar is orientated towards Ar-Pharazon, and would be familiar with the descendants of his line in Middle-earth. Thirdly, there is a certain irony that would truly amuse and appeal to Ruiel. Fourthly, the shame would rock the people's trust in the Stewards.
Having said all that, it is a big limb to crawl out on as far as a alteration of the history of Numenor. So, I ask that you think about it and let me know if you believe it could work or is simply too much or a revision.
I'll be happy to edit Ruiel's morning account if it proves too risky a revision of established history.

Elora and Game Owners, and other players - please do not follow up in your posts on Elora's post of 07/12 1:29 a.m.
Before you proceed with bending of history concerning Ar-Pharazon and Finduilas as his descendant - I need to see a detailed family tree for how you think this might have happened.
Here is her descent on her Father's side, at least:
Imrazôr, the Númenórean (Dúnadan)from Belfalas in southeastern Gondor married Mithrellas, a Silvan Elf (Sometime in the 2nd millenium of the 3rd Age)
I
I
I
Galador (III 2004 - III 2129), their son, founded Dol Amroth in southern Gondor, and became its First Lord/Prince
I
I
I
I
Angelimar was the 20th Prince in direct descent from Galador
I
I
I
Adrahil, Angelimar's son, was the 21st Prince in direct descent from Galador
I
I
I
Finduilas (III 2950 - 2988) was the daughter of Adrahil
&
Imrahil (III 2955 - IV 34), who fought in the War of the Ring, was Adrahil's son, and the 22nd Prince of Dol Amroth
What you are implying by making Finduilas suspect in relation to Ar-Pharazon is that Prince Imrahil is also suspect. I don't believe Tolkien had that in mind at all for Prince Imrahil, the Fair; but I am willing to see how you plan to detail this shadowed history out - though I have to tell you, I don't see myself or Cami, the other Shire Mod allowing this revision of history.

Great great posting, "ladies". So fun to read. One point of confusion. How many of you Minas Tirith ladies supposedly have rooms in the Steward's house? This seems very confusing to me, as many of you seem to all be living in the same building... Siriel would live there, and Finduilas and co. I think the rest of you would live somewhere else in the city smilies/wink.gif, we are not a hotel... *shrugs* its not a big deal, really, but for accuracy's sake, let's at least determine it.

Good point Sophia. *thinks*
Well, since the Morthaniawen's came from Dol Amroth as what? representatives? then they would be honored with housing in the Steward's home? That doesn't sound quite right.
What shall we (Arien, Elora, and I) do? Just keep our characters there or ... edit our posts for nearby estates?
It would be so much easier if we could keep the Morthaniawens in the citadel but if you don't approve, then we can "move out" heh.
About how big is the Steward's House? Isn't it the entire Citadel part?

maika - let's assume everyone has already been invited. I only posted Pelien inviting Tiriel and Siriel, but she certainly talked to the other ladies the night before, or as in Elena's case, she sent out invitations. I didn't post Pelien inviting every single lady as that would not have been very interesting to read, but she has already mentioned (in her thoughts) that your mother is coming.
When can we start descending on Pelien's house for lunch? And is it going to be just women at the luncheon? Sophia, do you think we could contrive Thenidir turning up?
The ladies should start showing up to Pelien's as soon as I get my next post in. It's almost finished and will go up probably within the hour. smilies/smile.gif Men coming to the luncheon is not likely. Sador is out of the house, and any other men showing up would be somewhat unrealistic. Can we leave it to just the ladies? (I'm saying this because I talked to Sophia about it earlier.)
Okay, let's have the luncheon start at one hour past noon, Minas Tirith time.

Just to keep all aprised of matters.
I am presently discussing my suggestion with moderators and will not post until a decision has been arrived at for the sake of clarity.
In that vein, I would like to clarify one thing as recently privately messaged.
I am not suggesting a re-write of lineages. Ruiel's suggestion would be entirely fabricated. It is a lie, plainly put, and not based in any fact.
I had no intention of suggesting we actually re-write Finduilas' descent, as the whole rumour about who she is "really" was a lie in the first place.
The fact that it is a lie should fan the flames of mistrust and doubt. Once the gossipers start to actually check matters, it is possible to dismantle the lie, as must happen according to the plot line.
So, in summary, I do not propose a re-write of Finduilas' lineage, or that of any other historical figure. I suggest a further lie be propagated based on a fabricated "real" lineage that would cast a suitable pall over Finduilas and Denethor in turn.
No better pall than a false link between Finduilas and a relative of Ar-Pharazon could I think of at the time.

I'm a bit puzzled by the suggestion that Lady Ruiel and her daughters could be living in the Steward's house, to say nothing of other Minas Tirith citizens. Certainly only his family would live there on a permanent basis, wouldn't they? I'm sure that there were rooms and suites for state guests, such as Finduilas and her entourage, but other than servants, maids and persons belonging to the Steward's household, I see no reason for others to live there. If Lady Ruiel has been trying to become a part of the normal society in Minas Tirith, she would have a house of her own, like all the other citizens, I should think. She is not an ambassador or something similar, after all.

Works for me... and happily shall Ranne and I connive smilies/evil.gif.
As for location of accomodation, can we perhaps consider a compromise if there are those who think a re-edit for location is needed.
I agree that Ruiel will have made it her business to acquire her private Manor where she would be free with her daughters and others to conduct her business in private.
However, I also believe that it is possible that the Steward would have the capacity to offer temporary lodgings to guests so that they would not need to find carriage across Minas Tirith so late at night after an official function.
My compromise is that Dryea, her sister, mother and their household, would have installed themselves temporarily in the guest quarters but will of course need the privacy of their estates to further execute their nefarious plans.
Why do I suggest this? Well, I see a number of advantages outside of the tiresome editing well after the fact. (Editing can be a risky business, as it changes details that can have a consequential effect far beyond what you may think - ripples in a pond).
It gives the Umbarian contingent some "space" in which to get truly dastardly in. Ruiel will also possess estates in Dol Amroth too. You may recall from her character profile, she inculcated herself into Dol Amroth following her husband's demise... err, death I should say. Demise is alledged smilies/wink.gif. Where Ruiel acquired her weath is mysterious. Stands to reason she profited immensely from her activities, but those who do not know the real story behind the Umbarian contingent will not know about how she came by her wealth (extortion, racketeering, smuggling, murder for hire and so on and so forth - enterprising women, those ladies).
Secondly, it allows the impression of wealth, stability and luxuriant generosity of the House of Stewards that they can put guests up in such lodgings.
Thirdly, it means that the Gondor contingent can spy.... erm, I mean "learn" more about the Umbarian contingent whilst they're on their turf and observed by the Gondorian household staff and members. Fourthly, it means that the necessary equipment can be kept safe keeping for the treachery to occur. Fifth, it provides a stronghold for the Umbarians, where all their culpability can be concentrated should it be rooted out and captured. Informants can show up, seek shelter, spies smuggled in and out, contraband, weapons and so on and so forth.
With a stronghold captured, and all that it held, the guilt of the Umbarian group would be an easy case to make.
That's my suggestion as I see it.
Sorry if it muddies the waters further, but I think it could work to everyone's advantage.
Now, where's that Ranne gotten to? Ruiel needs to prepare for the luncheon and her departure to her manor. smilies/wink.gif

Elora said: "I see a number of advantages outside of the tiresome editing well after the fact. As it hasn't really been stated by most where the 'live', I can see and agree with Elora's view on the housing. Also, seeming (to me) incessent editing so that everything 'fits perfectly' in reality disrupts the flow of the story as everyone then has to scurry back to see the effects of any major edit (the ripples).
That said, The story looks good so far, and I hope to have a bit of time to post today.

Unless my daughters or household disagree, I've made arrangements for the Umbarian contingent to return to their Manor after Pelion's Luncheon (presuming noone is arrested at that event for crimes of treason).
Now, I'de best get dragon lady evil mother to decorate it in suitable style. Parlor for receptions, dining hall, library and kitchens, housing for what few men are permitted to watch the gates and see to the horses.... all a suitable facade for inquisitive Minas Tirith visitors...
Also, suitably Umbarian facilities for it's residents. The bedrooms for example, offices, second library and store, not to mention the interrogation and holding pens, and the secretive entrance/exit system. Maids quarters, apothecary and so forth.

Hmmm... excellent question Maikafanawen . Where indeed?
There seems to be some room for discussion on how Minas Tirith was precisely organised, as in whom lived where precisely. I think it likely that the Citadel, in the highest and 7th circle held more buildings than Tolkien may have mentioned in passing reference.
I also think it is likely that housing was arranged according to "status" in the city, in the manner of western European castles . The more important one was, the higher up in the city they lived.
So with that in mind, I'll suggest that the Manor be located on the 6th level. It's close to the 7th, where the Steward would reside in the King's ertwhile place within the Citadel. Morthaniawen is a House of some repute and wealth, so whilst it is not a member of the Steward's House or the King's (obviously), it is still powerful. So, the 6th level seems to best fit.
There are strategic advantages in this also. The Houses of Healing are on the 6th level - a good supply of necessary herbs for healing or poisoning for the Morthaniawen adders that are nested there. There is a tunnel from the 6th to the Citadel which might come in handy for both Umbar and Gondor contingents. It will be easier to get people in and out of the palace and the city from the 6th (assuming gates are not closed).
It's under direct scrutiny, allowing Morthaniawen the opportunity to work with some greater privacy as is necessary for them to do so. It provides good access to the Citadel, as expected of a established member of court. Also means spies find it easier to be sent into Morthaniawen Estate from the 7th level.
The Errand Riders are based on the 6th, so Ruiel, Dryea and Alethea will find it easy to blend in their own horsed errand riders with that traffic.
Finally, for the side of the "nice people", Morthaniawen Estate would be embedded deep within what is ultimately hostile territory for the Umbars. All the strategic advantages that offers are also accompanied by high risks should they be uncovered.
Of course, we can' forgot the wonderful views from the 6th. smilies/wink.gif
Hope that suits all. Please let me know what you think. I'm working on a description of the Estate now. Ruiel, in a move that is oddly permissive of her
smilies/tongue.gif , asks that her daughters and maids PM her with any preferences as far as accommodation goes. That way, my description fits with all resident's needs. smilies/smile.gif

Ruiel's eyes light up at the announcement. She darts forward, quickly snatching up Finduilias and tucking her under arm. That done, she makes for a sturdy wardrobe, tosses the young girl inside and bolts the door shut with heavy and grim looking locks. Not happy with measures, Ruiel then swallows the key and flashes a smile of triumph at the assorted characters who's expression range from satisfaction and amusement to shock and downright outrage.
Smoothing her hands on her skirts, Ruiel murmurs, "That should do until I can get her carted off to some desolate outpost of the realm."

The luncheon needs to end now, the seeds of the gossip are sewn, I think it's safe to have our next posts be of the dispersing ladies as they go to their own homes. I will try to put up Siriel and Tiriel's responses ASAP.
