Ok, this is my RPG. It takes place just after the War of Wrath.
There's a gang of bandits wandering around. The leader, a Man named Thorondruin, gets wind of the Silmaril currently possesed by Beren and Luthien in Ossiriand. He takes his gang East to try to find (and steal) it. When they get there, he pauses to rob a homestead (or whatever the correct ME term for a solitary house is) of food.
This is where the story starts. I need gang members (any race), Green Elves, some animals maybe. It's fairly open, character-wise.

The "silent partner" speaks up.
I am a Green Elf named Hithduiniel that lives in said homestead. She is fairly young and silly, and she will cause an unfortuate interference in this house-robbing plan.
I'm a very inexperienced RPGer, so bear with any silliness that ensues.
Anything else? Stats perhaps?

This is Thorondruin
Race: Man
Age: 25, 26, somewhere in there
Appearance: Tall, but he appears taller because he's quite thin. He has dark hair, no beard. He likes the color red.
Character: Charismatic, can be charming when he wants to be. Stubborn and argumentative and always has to have his own way.
History: Don't know in particular.
Occupation: bandit and thief. He uses two daggers like swords. Has a habit of cutting peoples' achille's tendons when he's tired of fighting them, particularly when they're using big, heavy, slow, swords.

Hithduiniel.
Race: Green Elf.
Age: maybe 1000 or so.
Appearance: On the short side for an elf. Dark hair, green eyes. Wears green, of course.
Character: Sometimes, she is overly impressed with her own cleverness. Her foolishness fails to make any sort of an impression on her at all. She is a little greedy, a little stubborn, and doesn't always take things as seriously as you might like. That said, she's fairly good at making people like ther, and she really is quite clever and resourceful. She does not have any weapons skills whatsoever.
History: She's lived in her father's house in the woods for her whole life, climbing trees and lording it over her younger sisters.
Occupation: Elfmaiden.

Yes, I will mention that this is a collaboration between Belin and me. We have a story in plans, but won't tell you all what it is because that would defeat the purpose of making it an RPG. smilies/smile.gif

Ah, very well. This is the story as we'd like it to play out: Thorondruin and his gang go to Ossiriand to steal the Silmaril and stop at this homestead to get food. They are interrupted by Hithduiniel. An argument insues between Hithduiniel and Thorondruin, which is interrupted by the arrival of more Elves. Thorondruin panics and grabs Hithdiuniel as a hostage. When they get out of Ossiriand, he realises what a stupid move that was, since it would cause basically the whole of Ossiriand to chase after him to get her back. Since he has to go back in anyway to get the Silmaril, he thinks he'll just take her back with him, but she will have none of it because she thinks her life wants excitement. That's what we have so far.

Am I allowed to join? I wanna be an evil elf!
Name: Kalia
Race: Elf/Evil
Gender: Female
Age: ?
Description: Shoulder-length black hair w/ dark blue streaks, silver eyes that turn red when mad, 5’ 11”, wears nothing but black gowns, black lipstick, black nails, tall black staff wound around w/ emeralds w/ a big one on top, hair is always up in a ponytail, black cloak.
Weapons: long greenish-tinted sword w/ elvish inscriptions, black bow/green arrows, small dagger, black and white magic.

After that, her mother became ashamed of her. She ran away when she was 20. Came back 5 years later to find that her mom was dead. Left again and began wandering. She sounds like quite a character. Welcome aboard smilies/smile.gif
Do you have an idea for a better name for this RPG?
Halbereth Diagona
07-13-2002, 12:22 PM
That's a cool name, you should keep it.
Ok, profile. I'm bored with nice guy Halbereth so I'm a little evil.
Name: Amanalkarion.
Race:Elf (MALE)
Age: 2900 when this story starts.
Appearance: Tall, often wears flowing silver cape to hide self. Long dark red hair, which reveals deep blue streaks when doing magic. Black eyes, tanned and has thick eye brows, w/ scar on one so he only has half his left brow. Wears traditional Mirkwood clothes.
History: Orphaned when young, and wanders forest of Mirkwood, trying to find family. His father was an elf, and his mother was a direct descendant of Namien, the most evil elf in history. Has also a hint of faery blood, from great-great-great grandmother. Has no friends except (sorry suicidal elf chick, i'm taking liberties) Kalia.
Gear: Clothes, then bow and arrows, and two silver daggers that flash with fire. Also horse, a dark purple horse with silver eyes which he rides bareback.
Special: Has special emblem, which he has as a small statue hung around his neck. It is a dark faery. He uses this to do black and very very very occasionally white magic. Can summon fire. All usual elf stuff, eyesight, hearing, etc.
Personality: Has quick temper and loses it regulaly. He has a softer side, and is a good listener. He doesn't speak much, and when he does it has to be important. He is spontaneous and swift to react. Get's scared only very rarely, but has a huge phobia of a huge black claw which is something to do with
Namien. It haunts his dreams and often causes him to wake up yelling out and kicking around. He dislikes brightness and prefers darkness and dampness. Would be very at home in Moria.

I'm looking for between five and ten gang members. elf chick and Halbereth, are you members of the gang or imdependent Elves? As soon as I get enough people to join Thorondruin, I can start the RPG, because the Green Elves don't show up instantly anyway.

I want to start too, Halbereth, but four is too few gang members. I want at least five, with between six and eight being ideal. Hithduiniel's family memebers don't really need independent brains, since we won't see much of them, but I would like to get some people to play Elves on the other side, so there can be intelligent pursuit.

Name: Khelek
Species: Timber Wolf
From: The Valley of Rivendell
Summary: Seperated from his pack, this wolf pup is cared for by Elves in Rivendell. Using the wolf's senses, Khelek is very agile, strong, stealthy, and can hunt small game, such as rabbits and birds. Coming from a pack of wolves whom are wise and a good friend to Rangers and the Elven-kind, Khelek's loyalty is unrivaled. He can communicate with normal folk through mind-speech. Hey, can I join here?
Name: Himelilek (Cold star of Ice)
Age: ??
Gender: Female (I haven't had a female character in a LONG time.)
Eye Colour: Silver
Hair Colour: Silver
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 120lbs
Weapons: A Pendulum (It is a long dagger like blade that is attached to a long chain. At the end of the chain is a small morningstar ball. The dagger opens when it is thrown and then when it hits an object, the impact causes it to close. When she pulls on it it rips and does a lot of damage.) The weapon can be used in short and long range battle. And a long bow for really long distances that her Pendulum can't reach.
Armor: Silver chest plate with her family crest on it. (A silver star burst around a garland of Holly.) Black arm and leg protectors that have silver adornments on them and one gauntlet on her left hand and a gauntlet on her right that has her index and middle fingers left bare so she could shoot better. She has a horse named Celebdil and a falcon named Moth.
Other: She is laughs easily and talks and cajowls a lot. Many people think that she doesn't suit her name but in battle she's another story.
Story: She's just a long for the ride. No fancy-shamcy stuff. Her family is alive and well, they still are in the Undying Lands.

name: Ollea Stormfire
age: 1400 years old
appearance: long golden hair with very thin dark streaks throughout, usually worn up so that its out of the way. wears a dark green cloak and is often mistaken to be a boy. is in the habit of wearing the attire of a human soldier due to extensive traveling. carries a bow and a sword. a bit small for an elf, but is fast as lightning in a fight.
wears a small, flat light blue jewel on a chain around her neck that allows her to channel her powers.
history: allegedly, her lineage can be traced back to Osse, and has the ability to summon powerful storms. is one of the good elves, but is prone to working as a double agent; however, she only relays important, vital information to those who serve the light. Fairly quiet, able to keep a calm temperment unless in the heat of battle, and a good listener.

Rosseil, I must say, the stolen horse is very funny.
In any case, I'm beginning to wish I could join in now (no wonder nobody wants to be a Green Elf yet), so I think I'll create a temporary character:
Remdil, of another race of Men. He is a bouncer of about 35, of great physical strength and little imagination. He's never considered the Silmarils in his life. He grew up in the small town in which we are presently, and he developed a strong affection for the inn you are currently turning into a rather disreputable den of plotters. In fact, it was partially owned by his uncle, who had no great affection for Remdil's father but was rather fond of the boy himself and essentially brought him up in the barroom of the inn. However, Remdil, an unambitious lad, never showed any interest in running the place, much less owning it, but the idea of being a bouncer very much appealed to him, and the rest is history. On the other hand, unfortuately, he isn't a very good bouncer, as should be obvious from the goings-on in here. Also, he's a little overly attached to the other side of the bar. His elderly uncle, however, will always defend him against all detractors as "a good steady lad, and none of your tricksters."

As per GreatWarg's repeated requests that he not be left alone with a bunch of nasty people who all seem to want to kill him, I have given him a companion.

Species: Dog
Appearance: White with black points (meaning black marks on his ears and face, legs, and tail)
Age: Still really a puppy. Maybe about six months old.
Abilities: Nothing special beyond the normal pack talents: that of a hive mentality, which includes mindspeech (the normal kind, not the kind that allows Khelek to communicate with the Elves) and an instinctive pooling of talents. He is eager to please and eager to learn, though.

Let's see, since you haven't really come up with a scheme of things and everyone seems to be standing around talking and a few showing off their pyrotechnic skills. I suggest that we as a band of vandals raise hell all around whereever we are and make a name for ourselves. And then, and only then should a group of good characters rise to challenge us. If we have goodies among us trying to nip things in the bud, we end up being a very poor band of brigands with no future at all.
Besides I don't think thieving vandal groups had any noble elves with them ever.
This could be a good RPG with a negative theme, if we build it the right way.

Okay. Of Remdil. First of all, I should make clear to you, Cim, that he's not trying to stop evil plans, particularly; he'd just like evil (or should I say, troublemaking) people to get out of his town.
Second of all, my, my, but he's in a tight spot. Feel free to kill him if you get the urge, but be warned: that very likely will lead to people following you around, which you may not want.

Uh, I think I will add my two cents to Halbereth. I know what Cimm said to you and I know he had a point. No one is picking on you but you are blowing everything out of proportion. You know, Elrond, Galadriel, Celeborn, Gil-Galad, Feanor, Thranduil, Cirdan, and many others are very, very, very powerful elves in Tolkien's stories but did you ever hear of them chucking fire balls at one another? The only fire balls anyone threw made poor Bilbo dodge for cover! And that was a dragon!!
We are all mature writers here (or at least I think so) And I think that in order to have a good character, you don't need to blow everyone out of the water with wicked-cool magic. Sure, its good to be different, and needless to say, your character is unique but you must respect the wishes of others and remember that they are there to have a good time too.
Now! Onward with the story!! Let's go and get the silmaril, ya'all!!
Sincerely,
Manelwen

He actually wasn't lying, elf chick. Thorondruin is a very practical person and simply having you away from him and his plans is enough to satisfy him. Khelek on the other hand....
How did she get his dagger into his shoulder from where she was lying on the ground?

I know, but most people dont have much trust in someone who just stabbed them. She doesn't exactly trust anyone in the group much other than Khelek, so she's gonna expect the worst, if not from Thornodruin then from someone else. I'm just doing this from her perspective.
Oh, and she managed to reach his shoulder because she turned over, took the knife out and chucked it at him.

Susan Delgado

But you are not an Elf, you are a wolf. Glorfindel was a freak; a lone occurance, an author's mistake, so we really can't say that "Elves can do that", and there's a perfectly good puppy already available.
(Honestly, I have no idea why the litte guy is so important to me...)

The revellry continues. Huzzah!
The wolf had to be killed to further the plot, Warg. If the plans keep getting nipped in the bud how will we advance this game.
As for opposition, sure, I welcome it. But let a gang of ruffians establish themselves.
When Thorondriun was waitng for people to join his gang in the bar, he wasn't shouting out aloud that he intended to loot and plunder. Rogues similar to him would understand what he wants when he says "I have a job, I need men for it," so they would ally with him. Powerful elf lords couldn't care less about such.
So far Susan, Belin, Manelwen and I have stuck with that theme. I don't think that elves with elemental powers would join a group of cheap hoods like us to thwart our meagre robbery plans, let alone a talking wolf.
Allow the gang of vandals to get established, then you goodie good goods can form a countering team. It's lame if half the gang have intentions to ruin every plan we make.
Let's get a good game going.

Here's my character -
Name - Livia ??
Race - Human
Age - 18
Ht - 5'7
Wt - Unrevealed, slender build
Hair - Black, in messy curls
Eyes - Green
Dress - Poorly dressed in old work clothes.
History - The only (possible adopted)daughter of Remdil, she has worked in the inn all her life, which is boring and dull. She often dislikes all the unsavoruy people that frequent their inn, but they needed the business.
Belin
07-23-2002, 07:27 PM
Lady Death... I am the much fabled and seldom seen Belin Ibaimendi, invisible guardian of the game. smilies/smile.gif
My conception of Remdil's daughter was as a fourteen-year-old redhead, who has a special connection with dogs and a hopeless crush on the inn's groom, who's quite a bit older than she is (as a result, she spends quite a bit of time hanging around the stables). Would you care to come to a compromise? I won't be particularly stubborn. Not really. smilies/wink.gif ..I like the crush on the groom, though, so I'd like it if you kept that. Maybe sixteen years old with dark reddish hair? In any case, welcome to the game. Livia, hm? Very interesting name, very Antony and Cleopatra smilies/smile.gif
Ket-- Well, that was certainly interesting. I also find your decline to submit stats interesting.. at the risk of sounding anti-RPG, I think I approve! ..Do I smell a plot twist? Will you be back to play your father? Ah, suspense!
Susan--Thoronduin's getting a bit paranoid there, is he? I suppose he's right, of course.. but I wonder, hm, will his band drive him over the edge? smilies/biggrin.gif (actually, that would be kind of fun, wouldn't it?)
Cim--Cheap hoods with delusions of grandeur, don't forget the delusions of grandeur. smilies/wink.gif ..After all, their loot is fairly important, so I don't think a LITTLE opposition, even from kind of scary people, is completely ludicrous. On the other hand, you notice, they didn't immediately run off to gather armies. (Note: Please do not take this opportunity to gather your armies.)
BTW, I've been wondering for a while...where do barbarians come from in Middle-Earth? Are you related to the Rohirrim?
GW--Oh, come on, be the puppy... at least you can probably befriend Livia!
Incidentally, Remdil is techincally not the innkeeper, he's just the bouncer. Ah, well. Nice work, people. Keep it up. smilies/smile.gif

Yes Yes, Belin. One has to be deluded to act as a barbaric cheap hood in the first place and Ozracles is the extremist in that area.
Barbarians are not a race but a kind of lifestyle, as in Rangers, Heralds, Knights, Paladins etc. A Barbarian is a person with very little social skills, no manners and a very abrasive nature. He takes what he likes; kills first and asks questions next week. That's what Oz is all about, possibly from Gondor or Rohan or from wherever humans dwelt in the War of Wrath period of time.
Watch your back, Thor.

I didn't really mean "reincarnated" in the Hindu sense, but just that you take him over and control him. He is young andfoolsih, but he's a smart little dog, and the Elves can hear when he speaks to them (I guess). And this way, at least you'd still be in the game.

Name: Carathon.
Age: 20 or so.
Eyes: black. Hungry looking.
Hair: Browny red, kind of foxy colour. Looks like it hasn't been cut in ages, tumbles round his face in disarray.
Other features: Pointed nose, very good sense of smell. Ragged clothes, slim face, almost gaunt. Constantly looks hungry.
History: Raised by wild foxes and wolves. Half elf, half man. Is very alert. Does not realise that he is doing wrong. He simply wants food, and so Thoroduin and his gang take advantage of his hunger and naivety. Then one person in the gang could tell him about their reality, maybe? Just ideas here.
Abilities: Has superb sight and hearing. An expert Mandolin player. Not bad at fighting.
Weapons: Only a couple of small daggers, but they are lethal in his hands.
Ok, so I'd really love to join, please!

Welcome back, Rosseil! It's good to see you again. I think everyone thought you'd disappeared, since you hadn't posted for awhile even before the RPG started sinking like a rock..
It sounds good to me, although I can see that this story is going to be more and more splintered as time goes on and everyone wanders off in other directions. That should be all right, though, since they're still involved with the same things. I wonder how Dineniel came to be abandonded? This may require an explanation.
*looks around for Lady Death and Manelwen, speaking of disappearing artists*
Incidentally, I have noticed a slightly irritating discrepency that we'll have to take care of if we ever try to edit this thing.. alerooms did not have counters in them until the late nineteenth century! ..hmmm....
Anyway, on with the mayhem!

Speaking of aleroom counters, Belin... horses were ridden without the stirrups until the chinese invetion of them was discovered by the British in the 16th century. But there are stories that are set in 10,000BC that feature legions of stirrupped horses.
It's called artistic licsence. Besides are we really sure of what the sands of time have decided to hide away and what it has left outside for us to find... smilies/wink.gif

09-07-2002, 05:47 PM
Rossielantiel, I'm so glad you're back!
How do you feel about Dineniel rejoining the brigands? We could definitely use her skills and it would make things a bit smoother. Or, she could try joining up with Remdil and his rescue operation, but I don't know how likely he'd be to trust her...
It's just that I don't want half a dozen plots going at the same time; it's messy and hard to keep track of and the more groups of people there are wandering around, the more splintered (to use Belin's word) it gets. Also, to have Dineliel wandering around by herself limits her possibilities because she won't be interacting with any of the other characters. So, unless everyone wants to do some recruiting to get Dineniel her own gang to go after the Silmaril themselves, I'd rather not have anyone by him- or her-self.
Actually, the idea of having two separate groups going after the same thing isn't a bad one. It could be like a race.
Rereading this, I realise it seems a bit self-contradictory. All it really boils down to is, yes, Dineniel can stay away from all the existing groups of people if you want, but at the same time, I'd rather not have her alone by herself.
Rosseiliantiel
09-07-2002, 05:59 PM
Hmmm...this is a situation...
(Wow, that was a pointless post)
Maybe she could rejoin the original group, and then try to take the Silmaril by herself at the end...or she could find someone or someone-s to go along with her...
Belin
09-07-2002, 07:24 PM
lol, lol, and lol! I actually just had the same idea of her being recruited by Remdil.. talk about great minds thinking alike. smilies/wink.gif That would certainly make some interesting things happen.. he wouldn't trust her, of course, but she could certainly be useful. And the other two ideas are also ones I like. Oh, my. I think it's up to none other than you, Rosseilantiel. See what happens when you oversleep? smilies/biggrin.gif
I'm inclined to think we have enough brigands, though.. although the flavor of your group, were you to form another, would probably be very different, and Susan's point about a race is a good one, so, um, you decide. In any case, I'm sure you'll do a good job. smilies/smile.gif Up to me, though, I would encourage you to join either the brigands or Remdil.
Cimmerian-- Heh, you're quite right, of course, and I'm sure that this isn't even close to being the only discrepency in here (hey, if we were going historically, it might even be a stretch to have domesicated horses, no?). Thanks for reminding me. smilies/wink.gif But for some reason it sticks in my mind (because I'm crazy, no doubt)... I don't think there was a counter in the Prancing Pony, yesee. Let's see, the whole town, and the inn in particular, had a very different atmosphere before the invasion of you lot and your dangerous ilk smilies/tongue.gif ... maybe it was put in recently, to protect the barkeeper?? ..hehe, a rather pitiful effort, but very typical of the way this town deals with things, as far as I can tell.
Now... I'm slightly hesitant to do this, seeing how well it worked before smilies/rolleyes.gif , but I have another part or three that I'd like to advertise.. can we have an Eolinda? I don't think she'll stand for her husband simply wandering off, and if someone wanted to play her she could come along and be interesting. She's a woman of sound good sense and several small abilities, although rather inexperienced.. her dedication to any project she undertakes and her shrewd intelligence have made her a very good wife, and a lot of people resent that she married Remdil. She isn't beautiful, though. It would be nice to have SOMEBODY populating Neniant, as well, assuming I ever get there. Any takers??

Since Belin had no bites for Eolinda, I have decided to play her.
I hope you all don't mind doubling up on roles, because once we get to Osiriand, we're going to need some Green Elves to mount a pursuit after the kidnapping brigands. We're not there yet, so it's not an immediate need, but think about it, and if it's something you think you'd be interested in, let me or Belin know (or just post it here in the discussion smilies/smile.gif), so we can figure out exactly how many Elves we'll have and/or their level of characterization (meaning whether they're real, fleshed out characters or just names controlled as a unit, in the manner of Yerniel Venea's troupe of Orcs in the old Gondor RPG).

Look, will you all shut up about the title! It doesn't matter what the title is, as long as the RPG is fun! And I've noticed that no-one's posted in that since yesterday but loads of posts here! Come on people get your act together!

Hey Sol, who are you bossing around?
The title does matter... people do judge books by their cover. I wouldn't bother about RPGs that are titled "roaming around rivendell," or "lounging in lothlorien,"
An interesting name draws people to the RPG.
And you should talk about posting everyday, all hidden on the tree, just wait till you come down... Oz has got a nice switch handy for you. smilies/evil.gif
Susan and Belin - What's the joke about Argentines???
Kettle of fish

Lab mice on stilts? Moulin Rouge references?
Argintines??!??
This just became very twilight zone.
Is the lab mice on stilts thing kind of their way of stealthily infiltrating the 'cheese cubes on toothpicks' club - sort of the wolf in sheepskin thing? Ok, I've had far too much caffeine

No one here (except possibly Cim) watches Pinky and The Brain? Criminal...
Of course the title matters. An interesting title draws people in to see what the game is about and, Sol, your own intro post said you came here because the title was interesting, and in any case, the discussion about it is over. I'm not changing it more and your complaint is too late. And as for posting, well, you could have done it.
Oh, don't mind us, Cim. Belin and I have known each other for some time and we have certain inside jokes that are very hard to explain to others. <shrug>

Mice on stilts. Cheese cubes on toothpicks.
I'm sure we are all aware that sometimes at gatherings, people have plates of nibblies. Often consisting of cheese cubes or tiny bits of sausage - on toothpicks - ala easy to pick up and no sticky fingers.
So look at it from the mouse's point of view. It goes near the cheese, and the cheese cubes start panicing. The cheese cubes probably have sentries or scouts or something to warn of mouse sightings so that the rest of the cheese can scatter and hide. But, aha! Cheese is not very intelligent. So the mouse only has to trick the cheese cubes just enough so that it can get close enough. And it infiltrates the cheese cube community by somehow tricking the cheese cubes that it is one of them. *drum roll*
So it goes on stilts - to mimic the toothpick effect (ok, so it needs at least two stilts - but look at it from a side view. Plus - even with multiple stilts/toothpicks it could just be a mutant cheese on pick.)
Voila!! Cheese on stick costume.
Ok - I blame this on Belin. He started with the lab mouse on stilts image. So naturally I had to figure out why they were on stilts...

Arrrgggh - so sorry Belin.
*note to self. Belin is a she.*
Here we go.
Name: Doesn't have one. However, several outraged merchants and shopowners have often waved their fists at him as he skipped quickly away and called him 'You dirty street urchin' (Please note, the word 'dirty' has often been substituted for other words).
Age: Around eight or so - age is not an issue on the streets - only size, stealth and charm. And of stealth and charm, this little fellow has plenty.
Gen Description: Small, skinny, covered in a layer dirt. Unkempt floppy hair - unknown colour due to the dirt. Dressed in rags, no shoes. Small pouch on inside of clothes for treasures - these include the typical treasures of an eight year old boy - a few small coins, one foreign; a piece of glass smoothed by the sea, a perfectly spherical piece of amber, green string, piece of flint, a rusty fishing hook.

All right, I'll admit to being a little confused. Um... why are they brawling? Hm, those brigands, they're just riding along peacefully one moment and fighting the next......
I read Susan's original answer to Cimmerian's post, and I would like to say, first of all: Calm down, calm, calm, when I snap my fingers you will be very, very calm and rational, all of you. Second of all, um, I mean first smilies/wink.gif, there seem to be some problems with disagreement of characterization. My own first reaction is to deal with such matters by imposing (or at least proposing) rules, such as: If a player strongly and sincerely feels that his or her character has been seriously misrepresented in a major way, he or she may request revision of the offending post. This rule would be only invoked at important times; for instance, if the use of the word "sweeting" makes my hair stand on end and I don't believe anybody would ever use it, ever, under any circumstances, I would NOT invoke this rule (did it exist) because this is a very minor thing. The current one seems to be a bigger deal and a possible candidate for the rule (which, of course, does not exist).
Of course, approving or rejecting this rule or any other important course of action like that is up to Susan and it is not up to any of the rest of us.
Ahem. Welcome back, Lady Death, and post whenever you're ready.

I changed the line you found objectionable, Belin. All you had to do was ask.
Edit: Just to be very clear: what I object to is not the existance of the fight; that's just fine. What I onject to is the content of the fight.

Strong male lead figures in a story always contradict each other and try to be better than the other one at all times, be it on the side of good or bad.
Thorondruin attacked Ozracles for leering at Livia, whom he wanted for himself. Oz fought back because his position in the group would be threatened if he allowed himself to get whipped. It's a guy thing, and it's prevalent in real life. Trust me.
This is just role play. The same as acting. We play the part, the part doesn't play us. I am not Ozracles, Andoras or Azradreth... I merely play their parts for a while.
If you're not pleased by the way your character has been interpreted, try to write around it and through it. Take it as a challenge to show off your creativity. Don't get all mopey about it, it's just a game.

To Cim, who, as always, wants to kill people: We have more pressing needs at the moment. A healer would be nice. I'm not saying Throndruin wouldn't like to find the horse thieves and get Oz's horse back, but he is obove all a practical man, and if they run off and leave Oz behind (since he wouldn't be able to fight), he'd bleed to death, and you wouldn't want that, would you?

Thorondruin looked over at Carathon, who gulped hard and looked away. He’d rather have Livia ride behind him, but Ozracles might as well throw the boy off his horse and take it all for himself. But if he placed the girl with Carathon, they may just run away, Thorondruin thought for a while. He surely did not want to have Ozracles sitting behind him.
The obvious answer, of course, is for Himelilek to carry Carathon, but I guess it doesn't matter now smilies/rolleyes.gif

I think a LOT of people are doomed here as far as Ozracles is concerned. Then again, he seems to have taken more damage than almost any other character so far, soo.. smilies/tongue.gif . Then again, of course, neither of my characters is sensible enough to be afraid of him.
Nice to see you, Childlike Empress! I think you have a great idea for a character (then again, I'm the one that's been pushing for Green-Elven pursuit since the beginning of the game), but I'd like to hear more about him. What's he like? And why does he choose to go in secret when he could probably raise a little posse if he wanted (aside, of course, from the fact that we've nobody to play them smilies/wink.gif ) ?
Clarification for the more vehement anti-superpowerites among us.. Hithduiniel is not really communicating with the horse in a truly telepathic way, just noticing it with her more intense kind of elfly noticing. And then again, we don't really know how much of this is her own projection either. She's a little like egoist me in that you can generally assume that most of what she says or thinks can be traced back ultimately to an idea about herself. smilies/wink.gif

Belin
10-12-2002, 11:08 PM
Well, naturally he wouldn't show himself to the brigands, that would be silly. I was wondering why he didn't gather up a band of doughty laiquendi to come with him. Or did you mean that he thought his band would be seen? That makes sense (I'll get it eventually, really smilies/rolleyes.gif ).

Yes, that's what I meant. It's much harder for a group to hide than an individual. Especially with Elves around. Also, he didn't think of it before he ran off.
A personality? I guess i didn't think of that. Obviously he's impulsive, he ran away without thinking of the consequences or telling anyone he was going. Not really a "look before you leap" sort of person. This pretty much describes his whole outlook. It's kind of a stupid way for an immortal being to behave, but what the heck

Childlike Empress
10-14-2002, 12:05 AM
How's that?
Belin
10-14-2002, 12:22 AM
Wow, I think I deserve a prize for "most confusing person on the Barrow-Downs." Some clarification. Hithduiniel and Lenilos, being Laiquendi, are of course starting from Ossiriand. I concieved of them as living near a rather obscure edge of the forest. The brigands are somewhat lost but know, I think, that they want a completely different part of Ossiriand, the one where they expect to find Beren and Luthien (and good luck to them, heh). My understanding was that they would get out of the forest as quickly as possible, since they realize that it's occupied by a lot of people who aren't likely think much of them and might well raise an alarm (or an army). So they wanted (in my idea that I somehow imagined that everyone was sharing with me) wanted to skirt the edges until they came close to where they wanted to be. This will be difficult, of course, since they don't know where that may be.. I guess they could try asking Hithduiniel if they're desperate.
Please note, also, that "treeless" is a relative term; even the sparser edges of the forest begin to look a little like a savannah when you're a Green Elf.
Not a bad introduction, Childlike Empress. He seems very young, but that's quite suitable, since Hithduiniel's unusual point of view is an important part of her character and I don't see why it shouldn't be part of her brother's as well, and he definitely comes off as a brother of hers!
Before attempting to steal any horses, though, I'd advise you to consider the fate of the previous group of horse thieves....

History: After the time period of the Lord of the Rings, the Dwarves were rekindled and decided to wipe out every Orc in the Mines of Moria, and reclaim it as the Dwarves’ once again. By the fifth year of the revival, the Mines were emptied of Orcs, and the glitter of jewels and treasures upon the walls of the Mines were brought once again. When the sixth year came, an army of Mordor Orc, in a last attempt for survival, attacked the Moria Mines and claimed the Mines from the Dwarves, the darkness and evil of the Mines was once again rekindled. The Dwarves were either killed or driven out of the Mines. One year after the desecration of the Dwarves’ once mighty Mines, two Dwarves, Lisbeth Moonhammer and Kallon Fireaxe met, married and gave birth to Tallon Fireaxe. After the death of Kallon and Lisbeth, Tallon went on to seek more Dwarves and other races to once again, rekindle the Dwarves’ spirits, and retake the Mines of Moria for the last time, and never give it up. He also seeks Gimli, son of Gloin and wishes to share adventures with him.
Personality: A nice Dwarf who will willingly give his life so that others may have happiness. His wish to cleanse Moria is a great example: He will give his life fighting, so that the Dwarves will once again claim their home, and the king will once again, claim his throne. He loves to travel and will try new things. He believes that life is a great adventure, and that everything has a purpose.

It's been nice to have you along, Empress, however briefly, and this game isn't over yet! There is still time for Lenilos to do something important (as I hear you're discussing with Susan). smilies/smile.gif
Dorathain Flamesword.. hello there, and welcome to the 'Downs. Your character is an interesting one, but this game may not be the best fit for him. For one thing, this is not the Third Age. For another, the game is beginning to draw to a close, and we could really only accept you if you manage to convince us that Tallon has a place in the rest of this story. At the moment, I'm not even sure how you wanted him to meet up with any of our numerous groups of characters, or what you wanted to do with him.
If you'd like to make a case for him, or to create another character that you could plausibly bring in, feel free to do so (although keep in mind that this story is getting close to its ending). Otherwise, good luck in finding an RPG that you like, and perhaps our paths will cross again.

You obviously put some thought into your character. You might even consider making your Dwarf the star in his own game.

After much discussion, We have decided that this game will last until 20th Dec, on which date, I or Belin will make a final post and ask Mithadan (or whomever is relevant) to close it and move it to Elvenhome.
We must be finished by that date, so everyone should start posting more often. If any of you have further questions, please feel free to pm one of us; we will happily answer them.

Susan, Belin - That was beautifully executed. Good Luck with the rest of the game. May it make a fine FanFic.
This is the second RPG I had to die for, but they were worth it. I couldn't have asked for better company on either.
Regarding Himelilek - Since this character's originator isn't claiming her, do with her as the story requires.
Thank you all for a great game.

Having silently observed the moment of silence (these things are difficult to do in a written medium, aren't they?), I suppose I should re-welcome Cimmerian in the person of Himelilek.
Also, if we're to finish this game up by Dec. 20, we all need to post a little more frequently (including that slacker Belin smilies/tongue.gif ), so let's have some posts come up in the RPG thread soon! I haven't heard from some of you in a while.
Also.... Public Service Announcement. I'm sure you've all noticed that the forum looks different now. There's all kinds of interesting things going on in the new forums, and I'd like to encourage all of you to drop into the White Horse or the Green Dragon (possibly even the Seventh Star) and see what's going on. There are some really interesting games starting in the Shire (For instance, Dwarin's looking for a few good dwarves in a game I'd join myself if I didn't have a "two RPG's at a time" rule), and proposals are needed in Rohan, so I'd like to urge anyone who feels like taking on another game to check it out.

Okay, I know that I disappeared for a while, I've been quite sick for said while, and it seemed to affect my brain because I had post-block. Very sorry. All better now, although even paler then per usual and very tired.
Even though I'm back, I probably won't be posting very much because exams are starting next week which limits my time severely. But I'll try. smilies/biggrin.gif

Awwww.
I'm sorry to hear you've been sick, Rosseil, and I hope to see a Dineniel post soon. It's nice to have you back.
Good to see you too, Halbereth.. it's been a while. As to your suggestion...
>I was thinking it might be interesting if Carathon ended up in love with Livia, but obviously he doesn't know what it is he feels. Livia can either love him back, or only like him as a friend, or just not like him. Carathon is probably around 17 now I think of it, but he acts more like 10 cos he was raised by wolves.<
It might be interesting, indeed, but remember that Livia already has an unrequited crush on the groom at the inn (who, mysteriously, seems to speak Sindarin...), and she's not precisely in the most romantic of moods at the moment. But, hey, that's not insurmountable (see also: Eowyn).
One more thing.. she's not an elf.......

Himelilek wants the silmarils all for her greedy self. And she's mean.
Ooh, love in the air. Love!
Can I play with madness! That's Himelilek's philosophy.
Ooc - I got some hard knocks playing football today, that's foot ball (where ye awnlee yeuse yer feeth, laddies), so I might be out of my normal frame of mind for a few days.

Rosseil, I can see that you and I have a lot in common. What I find myself doing is taking out some of my crying time and using it to write RPG posts. I recommend it highly smilies/smile.gif. The twitching seems to be absolutely necessary, however....
As to your very good question about the future plot, I had a plan which went as follows.
As Lenilos, Carathon, Livia, and Hithduiniel go west (they've decided to take Livia home, Remdil, Eolinda, Dineniel, and the boy are riding east. Meanwhile, the brigands ride off in search of the Silmaril, behaving quarrelsomely. Eventually, they get to a cottage that's unmistakably that of Beren and Luthien and discover that it's all abandoned and cobwebby. They're not pleased. They set upon each other, quarrelsomely.
Whoever's left plunders the cottage and carries off what they find.
While this is going on, the other two groups meet up, purely by accident. Tearful reunion. Lenilos wants to go home. Hithduiniel runs off, since she wants to go west instead. She's stopped, however. Maybe she can have a nice talk with Dineniel. Everyone, in the words of Mithadan, is happy or sad and goes home. Where exactly home is, for some of these characters, is still a question of interpretation, and I could see it leading to a sequel, if the significant participants were so inclined.
Feel free to comment, criticize, or (better yet) suggest revisions.
Also: Childlike Empress, I have decided to edit my post so that I steal one horse (previously, I wasn't stealing any), so that's how many the girls have brought. Hithduiniel unfortunately refuses to ride it, though.
All right, on to the end! This should be exciting....

This implies that all three brigands go to the cottage and it is there that people die. But People have already died.

Or that, as you've suggested, one of them runs away. These things are really the same, I think. And it certainly doesn't imply it as strongly as it did when you read it and it had "somebody is killed" attached to it.
Of course, it makes little difference to the rest of us, as you're playing both the characters involved.
