Hey! I wanted to know what everyone liked most about the books. LIke, my favorite part is Flight To the Ford and Weathertop, and Frodo's final stretch. Tell me why you think Tolkien was so successful in writing LOTR. And why do you like it soo much?????

Hmmm thats a tuffie. I have to say that my fave part was the Shelob's lair scene (pretty freaky)and the Gollum and Frodo scene at Mount Doom (cool) I find Lord of the Rings one of the best books i have ever read in my life. I am a hell of a reader and i love classics, but Lord of the Rings just tops my list. I find it highly imaginative and just to think that it is myth makes me quiver. Also the fact that Tolkien had created languages for his creations is splendid. Basically im not into much fantasy but Lord of the Rings has changed my mind totally.
Im currently reading the Silmarillion and enjoying it thoroughly smilies/biggrin.gif

Cimm, I think you would have loved being a Númenorean. Have you read "The Disaster of the Gladden Fields" in Unfinished Tales?

My favorite part is probably the Scouring of the Shire. That's probably because we can see Hobbits aren't pushovers. In other words, as I've said in other threads, Hobbits kick butt!

<font color=white> Aldagrim, you'll be disappointed to hear the Scouring won't be in the movie. Shame. My favourite parts..I like Tom Bombadil, I like Mount Doom with Frodo and Gollum, I like the battle on Pelannor Fields, I like the Ents, and the part where Gandalf comes back...I love it all, it's very hard to just pick one.

why did they take the scourging of the shire out??? that is a major part! It is when the hobbits rise up. and isn't that also when Sauruman and wormtongue die????

I like every part of the books. These books changed me somehow and I love them. They're GREAT!! I can't pick a scene or a chapter. Everything is so great...!!!!!
