Do you perhaps mean Thorin? Anyway, the last thing that Balin said to Bilbo in the book was...

Quote:

"The new Master is of wiser kind,' said Balin, "and very popular, for, of course, he gets most of the credit for the present prosperity. They are making songs which say that in his day the rivers run with gold."
If you meant Thorin...

Quote:

"No!" said Thorin. "There is more in you of good than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more men valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. But sad or merry, I must leave it now. Farewell!"

Nilwen 02-16-2003 07:58 PM

I ment Balin.Your go.

Hirilaelin 02-16-2003 08:28 PM

Thank you. What was Thorin's answer to all the elven king's questions?

Hiri, Roaming Bard-Mistress

Nilwen 02-16-2003 08:33 PM

That he was staving?

Hirilaelin 02-16-2003 08:35 PM

Yes, that they were starving. Your question.

Hiri, Lore-Mistress of Yore

Nilwen 02-16-2003 08:41 PM

How many giant spiders were there when the dwarves got caght?

Hirilaelin 02-16-2003 09:00 PM

Would that be four? I assumed that you were talking about when the spiders were talking about the strung-up dwarves.

Nilwen 02-17-2003 04:41 AM

Yes.Go.

Hirilaelin 02-17-2003 12:14 PM

All right. What did Thorin say to Bilbo that he later repented?

Beren87 02-17-2003 01:02 PM

That they (the dwarves) should give him little of the treasure 'cause he was no longer their friend (squabbling little dwarves are like children, honestly).

Hirilaelin 02-17-2003 06:52 PM

Yes, dwarves can be very petty indeed. Your question!

Beren87 02-17-2003 07:07 PM

How many dwarves decided upon a direction the day after they were attacked by the spiders?

LadyElbereth 02-18-2003 08:11 AM

erm, I don't have the book with me but is the answer twelve?

gralin musicteeth 02-18-2003 10:11 AM

8

Hirilaelin 02-20-2003 10:50 PM

Should we perhaps have the next question, or answer?

alaklondewen 02-21-2003 07:53 AM

Hirilaelin, please read the Quiz Room Rules. We give ten days before we move on, and that applies to all threads in the Quiz Room.

wass_up666 02-21-2003 07:57 AM

10 dayz
aint that a lil toooooooooooooo long?
lol

gralin musicteeth 02-21-2003 10:18 AM

I don't know if 8 is the answer Beren87 is looking for, but here is where I got it:
Quote:

The day after the battle with the spiders Bilbo and the dwarves made one last despairing effort to find a way out before they died of hunger and thirst. They got up and staggered on in the direction which eight out of the thirteen of them guessed to be the one in which the path lay;...
Chapter 9: Barrels Out of Bond

It says "eight out of the thirteen of them" not "eight dwarves" so it a little iffy.

Hirilaelin 02-21-2003 12:29 PM

Sorry. I'll try to be less impatient in the future. But, I agree with wass_up66. Sorry again!

Liriodendron 02-21-2003 06:49 PM

I agree, ten days is too long! I feel more comfortable with three. Players like to play! Anyway, I didn't make the rules, so it doesn't really matter what I think!

Beren87 02-21-2003 10:56 PM

Exactly, lol, I made the rules

Yep! That was the answer I wanted, sorry I've been rather ill. So I believe it's gralin's turn!

Hirilaelin 02-22-2003 12:33 AM

Aw, I'm sorry Beren! Hope you feeling better, and sorry for my impatience.

Cheers,
Hiri

gralin musicteeth 03-01-2003 04:26 PM

Which Dwarf wore a silver hood with a light blue tassel?

Hirilaelin 03-01-2003 07:25 PM

That would be Thorin.

Who served the guests when they lodged at Beorn's house?

Beren87 03-02-2003 12:14 AM

Hirilaelin, you should wait for gralin's conformation next time! Thanks.

gralin musicteeth 03-02-2003 09:44 AM

Sorry Hirilaelin, that's not the right answer.

Hirilaelin 03-02-2003 02:11 PM

all right, but i really thought that was the answer.... know i'm all confused! and I don't think that any dwarf had a silver hood with light blue tassel. counld have sworn so...

Quote:

Then they hung up two yellow hoods and a pale green one; and also a sky-blue one with a long silver tassel. This one belonged to Thorin, an enormously important dwarf...
but O.K.

Heh, I think gralin's a bit bass ackwards.

Hirilaelin 03-02-2003 02:39 PM

lol, I was wondering about that!

Liriodendron 03-02-2003 05:48 PM

Hoods: dark green (Dwalin), scarlet (Balin), 2 blue (Fili and Kili), 2 purple (Dori and Nori), grey (Ori), brown (Oin), white (Gloin), 2 yellow (Bifur and Bofur), pale green (Bombur), sky-blue with a long silver tassel (Thorin).
This is from the long expected party, I don't remember any other dwarf hood colors being discussed. Did Dain's crew wear colored hoods? I just remember mention of weapons and armour type garb! I think you two are on to something!

gralin musicteeth 03-03-2003 05:55 AM

Well, now Hiri has it. It was a trick question. Your turn!

P.S: Sorry to confuzzle. I like playing mind games...

Hirilaelin 03-03-2003 03:59 PM

I'm still confused.... But anyway, my question.

Who serves the guests at Beorn's home?

Beren87 03-03-2003 04:44 PM

Ponies, Dogs, Sheep, and a Ram!

Hirilaelin 03-03-2003 07:11 PM

Yup! Your go Beren!

Hirilaelin 03-11-2003 11:44 PM

Beren? Are you there? Not ill again I hope...

Liriodendron 03-12-2003 05:53 AM

I could do with a question! I think this has become "The Patience Thread" of late!

Hirilaelin 03-13-2003 06:25 PM

Beren??? Oh where for art thou Beren? We need a new question! Anyone?

Pallando B.C 03-13-2003 07:16 PM

If you read this thread, you will understand why Beren can't continue his threads.

At what stage in The Hobbit a hidden rock mentioned.

Hirilaelin 03-13-2003 08:04 PM

Thank you Pallando, for both the answer and the question. As for the answer...

Would it be with the trolls? I'm thinking not... Well, here's my other guess. The hidden rock door? I really have no clue. Must read the book again!

Pallando B.C 03-13-2003 09:42 PM

That's quite alright. but no that's not the right answer.

Sorry for my terrible english before, the question should read.

At what stage in The Hobbit was a Hidden Rock mentioned.
