Well, maybe just to keep the game going...

Mari Goldstien took no time relating where whe wanted to go--she was very excited when her cousin told her he would take her anywhere for her birthday!
"Redbo, okay? I want to go to Redbo!"
"You mean Redbal." Roger corrected. "But, same difference. Ruth, get the car started, won't you? "

There are...10 words to be found in there--some directly related to LOTR and some--sort of.

Umm...I found Balrog, Took, Red Book, and Ent. I found a couple of phonetics, but I'm not sure if they're supposed to be in there. If they are, then there's also Aragorn, and Tengwar that I have gotten.

Evisse the Blue 08-24-2003 07:35 AM

I also got Ingwe and Sam phonetically. And with correct spelling, Eru and maybe... Marigold? (Rosie's sister, as far as I can remember)

Samwise 08-24-2003 03:15 PM

Hm....all are right except the phonetics, there were meant to be none.
Also, Marigold is correct, but she's my--er--Sam's little sister.

Sam is in there, but not phonetically, the name is just there.

There are...3 words left that sort-of/kind-of have to do with LOTR, and one more proper name that's actually there 3 times by my count.

Evisse the Blue 08-24-2003 03:32 PM

Yes, stupid me, of course Sam is there - what was I thinking?

As for the last name - is that Ted? I have no idea though as to the LOTR realted words. Anyone else? Or maybe a hint, Samwise?

Samwise 08-24-2003 03:54 PM

S'okay.

Yes, the name is Ted.

Let's see...hints.

One of the words is an event--actually pretty important to LOTR.
One has to do with a few of the hobbits in the Fellowship.
One--sort of has to do with both Arwen and Bilbo.

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 08-24-2003 11:07 PM

Arwen and Bilbo? How does that work?

Is birthday one?

Samwise 08-24-2003 11:10 PM

LOL....trust me. I'll explain when someone gets it.

And yes, birthday is one.

balrog
Took
Redbook
Ent
Sam
Eru
Marigold
Ted
birthday

That's it so far (I believe), just to make it easier.

Evisse the Blue 08-25-2003 07:52 AM

Some of the hobbits of the Fellowship are cousins. (thanks to hint no.2).

As for Arwen and Bilbo...still pondering on that one... Gold maybe?

Samwise 08-25-2003 12:22 PM

Yes, cousins is one.

As for the Bilbo/Arwen one...

The word is part of a song, and also a name associated with Arwen.

That probably totally gave it away, but oh, well.

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 08-25-2003 02:39 PM

Star?

Samwise 08-25-2003 03:42 PM

Star is it--as in Arwen Evenstar and the portion of Bilbo's song that goes, "I see the star upon your mast."

Hm. That was a group effort. Who would like to take the next confusing word-thingy?

Burzdol 08-25-2003 07:10 PM

This is my first try at this, so here it goes.

"His affro does kind off look like yours, now that I see it closely."

Samwise 08-25-2003 07:36 PM

Um...actually, I believe it's the turn of one of the folks who solved the last puzzle.

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 08-25-2003 10:28 PM

*jumps up and down* Me, me, me!

Nina stared roguishly at Jacque. "What do you mean, we're going to the Midwest? It's March! We should be going to Germany!"

Jacque grinned, a little timidly. "It's not that far. Things will work out, you'll see. Just trust me on this one." Nina glared at him and stomped angrily out of the room.

Four words to be found. One is an actual word, two are places, and one is an abbreviation for one of his books.

Evisse the Blue 08-26-2003 03:02 AM

All I can find is 'edro' -which I suppose is the word, and Farthing - one of the places. This is really a tough one.

MidWest. It's March!- Westmarch
This one- Isen
work- orc?
(following will only make since if you're up to date on ME Mirth):
We're going- Arago?

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 08-26-2003 11:03 PM

You've got edro, Farthing, and Westmarch. But the last one remains to be found...

Mariska Greenleaf 08-27-2003 03:45 AM

So, all that is left is the abreviation of a book?
All I can find then is UT: "oUT of the room"

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 08-27-2003 02:56 PM

Mariska, you intelligent little Elf. UT is correct. Hmm...seeing that everyone gave the same effort, one of you may continue.

Feanor of the Peredhil 08-28-2003 07:33 AM

Since Evisse got two and Mariska and I only got one, it's only fair that she takes it, unless of course she doesn't want to in which case I'd be happy to mess with people's heads. Just kidding- I'd be nice and let Mariska do it.

Fea

Mariska Greenleaf 08-28-2003 07:37 AM

You're so kind , but right now I really don't have the time for it.
Feel free to make up a new one.

Feanor of the Peredhil 08-28-2003 07:56 AM

Ooh, I'll make a new one so that I'll be ready if Evisse declines...
Fea

Feanor of the Peredhil 08-29-2003 07:44 AM

Okay, I've got one made, and since this thread is shifting slowly to the bottom of the page, I'll just post mine. (Especially since it was quite fun to make!)

"Let's go golf."
"No, I hate golfing."
"Please, Arthur, for me?"
"No!" shouted Arthur. "Oh, don't cry, Amy... Fine. Golfing it is."
"Ooh, yay! I'll put the clubs in the car."
"We've got to take your car."
"Why?"
"There's a mutt in mine!"

Okay, one word concerning Trolls, one concerning Elves, and three proper nouns.

Fea

Mariska Greenleaf 08-29-2003 09:24 AM

fingolfin
ea
eressea??

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 08-29-2003 11:21 AM

I found Sam, and mine...

Samwise 08-29-2003 07:43 PM

"mutt in"="mutton"?

As in, "...and blimey, if it don't look like mutton tomorrer."-Bert the Troll

Feanor of the Peredhil 08-30-2003 04:52 PM

Yes for mutton and of course Fingolfin. No for the others. Three to go.

One right for Mariska and one for Samwise.

By "proper nouns" do you mean names of places, people...?

It seems to me that, with all this use of phonetics and split words, this game is becoming rather overly complicated. The odd varation on the theme is OK, but might I suggest that, for the time being, we return to using correctly spelled and complete words in words?
Any chance of this happening?

Feanor of the Peredhil 08-31-2003 02:19 PM

Eep, sorry. I made a mistake. Only two proper nouns (people, places, yada yada) So far we have Mutton and Fingolfin. And I'll give clues to the other two words:

They both are important to certain popular Elves.

They are both spelled correctly.

I was wondering that, too...come on, guys, this game is hard enough!

Feanor of the Peredhil 09-01-2003 04:12 PM

Since this seems to be harder than I thought, here's another hint:

Look in Line Three
The Elves concerned are Legolas and Feanor

Fea

Evisse the Blue 09-01-2003 04:23 PM

Sea - for Legolas, and for Feanor...I don't know...Art?

Feanor of the Peredhil 09-01-2003 06:04 PM

Yes yes! Sea for Legolas!!!

Mariska- 1
Samwise- 1
Evisse- 1

Just one more.

Fea

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 09-01-2003 06:39 PM

For Feanor...plea? Form?

Feanor of the Peredhil 09-02-2003 06:36 AM

Oh Horse-maiden, you're really close... look a little further...

Fea

Feanor of the Peredhil 09-04-2003 05:14 PM

Since it doesn't look like anyone's gonna get the last one, it's 'Formenos'. That's what I meant by "ooh, Horsemaiden, you're so close!". Either Mariska, Samwise, or Evisse can take the next one.

Fea

Evisse the Blue 09-04-2003 05:31 PM

Oh, right, Formenos! ::slaps forehead::
I'll pass on making the new one. These things are damn hard to make!
