The Saucepan Man 06-24-2003 05:58 PM

OK, I'll ask a new question, to keep this thread going.

What was on the wall to the left of the front door in the Hall at Bag-End?

Edit: Just to be clear, questions here must relate to the book, The Hobbit.

Hmm..the cloak-rack?

The Saucepan Man 06-24-2003 07:28 PM

Not according to the reference which I have in mind.

Beren87 06-24-2003 07:41 PM

The map with his favourite walking routes marked?

Any good?

The Saucepan Man 06-25-2003 07:48 PM

No and no.

By "to the left of the front door", I mean from the perspective of standing in the Hall looking at the front door.

Hint: the answer that I am thinking of is not to be found in the text, although it is an "official" source.

Well, I found a picture (not sure if it's an "official" one so to speak, but there's a stool and a trunk to the left of the door.

The Saucepan Man 06-25-2003 08:00 PM

No, but you are right that I am thinking of a picture. However, this one is about as "official" as you can get.

Beren87 06-25-2003 08:10 PM

Aha! I've found it! Drawn by Tolkien himself o'course. There's a clock!

The Saucepan Man 06-25-2003 08:14 PM

That's the one! Well, it's either a clock or a barometer, but you got the picture (*groan* ).

Beren87 06-25-2003 08:21 PM

Oh my that was bad...*shakes head*

How many arrows are on the map of the Wilderland in The Hobbit?

Helkahothion 06-26-2003 07:15 AM

3

Beren87 06-26-2003 02:53 PM

Correct Helka!

Helkahothion 06-26-2003 03:02 PM

Wow, my very first answer!

What was the answer to Gollum's second riddle?

Abedithon le,

Anuion

Beren87 06-26-2003 03:14 PM

Wind, wind of course!

Helkahothion 06-27-2003 04:30 AM

Correct

Your turn Beren

Abedithon le,

Anuion

Beren87 06-27-2003 03:36 PM

Who's tree caught on fire first?

Ophelia 06-28-2003 05:10 AM

Could it be Gandalfs tree ?

Beren87 06-29-2003 07:01 PM

Not only could it, but it is. =P

Your go.

Ophelia 07-02-2003 11:02 AM

Yeeeeeea!I really got it .
OK . What was written on the map that the Dwarfs carried along with them ?
Sorry for the easy one but it was hard to translate other things in english . And I hope that this one hasn't allready been asked .
G'luck .

Helkahothion 07-02-2003 12:28 PM

If you want me to quote everything on the map it is a big post. Or do you mean the Dwarfish runes?

Abedithon le

Ophelia 07-03-2003 11:24 AM

I like to shorten things so I ment the moon letters . And by your post Helka I see that you have the answer .

Helkahothion 07-03-2003 02:40 PM

Ehr, I don't actualy

Ophelia 07-04-2003 02:48 PM

think harder...

Ophelia 07-05-2003 04:12 PM

I think we have a winner !!! Congratulations ! And Earwen , you can bring on the next question .

elven maiden Earwen 07-06-2003 10:50 AM

Why did Smaug think Barrel was the name of Bilbo's pony?

Beren87 07-06-2003 02:04 PM

because when listing his "titles" Bilbo called himself Barrel-rider.

elven maiden Earwen 07-06-2003 11:04 PM

correct

Beren87 07-06-2003 11:45 PM

What could Bilbo not imagine about the Long Lake?

Ophelia 07-07-2003 12:40 PM

Sorry for the inncorrect translation but I did my best .
Bilbo could never imagine that an open of water , which is not a sea , could look so big .
If that is not enough than the sentence is to be found in chapter 10 , the 6th paragraph , the 4th sentence . Well atleast so it is in my book .

Beren87 07-07-2003 02:02 PM

That would be very correct Ophelia, and thanks for the specifics.

Your go.

Ophelia 07-08-2003 01:10 PM

Why , thank you ! That was the closest translation I could thought of .
So here goes my next question : which Dwarf was set free as the first when Bilbo recued them from the spider webs ?
And again it is too simple but all the trixy questions are difficult to translate in English so forgive me for this simple question .
Good luck on answering !

Beren87 07-08-2003 01:32 PM

Thorin, me thinks?

Ophelia 07-15-2003 02:40 PM

Maybe it just is so . You can give us the next question .

Beren87 07-15-2003 02:44 PM

Well, I was just guessing the answer too, I'm rather suprised to have gotten it correct.

What was Gollum's reward if we would have won the quiz game?

Gwaihir the Windlord 07-16-2003 01:16 AM

Bilbo's carcass to eat.

Helkahothion 07-16-2003 04:43 AM

Darn, you beat me to it. And If Bilbo won he would be guided outside by Gollum.

Beren87 07-16-2003 03:48 PM

Kudos to Gwaihir, the thread is now his. Nice try Helka, you almost had it, but a windlord is quite the difficult creature to outrun.

Beren87 07-26-2003 02:16 PM

*kicks the thread to the top*

Oh Windlord?
