The Laurenendorian 12-03-2003 09:04 PM

No.

Telchar 12-04-2003 07:34 AM

Does it tave to do with either distances or groups of people ?

Telchar 12-04-2003 07:49 AM

This answer is eiher totally lame or totally brilliant

Its has to do with escape, measured in days in relation to the destruction of the Ring!

10 days before the destruction of the Ring: Frodo and Sam escapes from the Tower of Cirith Ungol

25 days before the destruction of the Ring: Merry & Pippin escapes from the Uruk-hai

32 days before the destruction of the Ring: Gandalf escapes from the peak of Zirak-Zigil by aid of Gwaihir.

The Laurenendorian 12-04-2003 08:19 PM

Absolutely brilliant, and I'm afraid not what I was after.

It's to do with groups of people.

Turambar 12-11-2003 11:25 AM

Is the Council of Elrond related to the answer ?

*doubts it*

EDIT: there were 25 in the company that went with Gandalf to Isengard after the battle of Helm's Deep. "We want man-food for twenty-five," the Ents said, so you can see that somebody had counted your company carefully before you arrived. (Merry)

Laur ? How about another hint?

The Laurenendorian 01-14-2004 01:25 PM

In any one of the groups, only a handful of them might have been gathered into one place at one time.

Turambar 01-14-2004 01:31 PM

So they might be inter-generational "groups" - like a line of kings or something . . .

The Laurenendorian 01-22-2004 03:56 AM

Fairly exactly like a line of kings. The number of monarchs of Númenor, Arnor and Gondor (before the coming of Envinyatar), actually.

Play on, Master of Doom.

It's been way more than 10 days so...

Old Forest
Emyn Muil
Mirkwood
Moria

NightKnight 10-09-2004 02:10 PM

Gollum was never in the Old Forest?

Evisse the Blue 10-10-2004 08:06 AM

Not what I had in mind.

Lindolirian 12-06-2004 10:34 AM

Hobbits were never lost in Moria... not quite anyway.

Evisse the Blue 12-06-2004 03:31 PM

You know what, I've forgotten the answer I was looking for, and your answer fits...sort of. Anyway, it's time for a proper revival of this thread, so go ahead with the next one. :)

Firefoot 12-06-2004 03:43 PM

Just a quick question: it seems like the guesses for the last question were more like Odd One Out guesses rather than One Thing in Common like the game is called... Am I just confused here?

Evisse the Blue 12-06-2004 03:56 PM

Duh!

Of course you're right, Firefoot, we're the confused ones here. :D
So that means I'm overlooking Lindo's answer, and everyone is welcome to guess at my riddle. If you can explain your answer, the thread is yours!

Lindolirian 12-06-2004 04:04 PM

Hahaha! I feel so silly. Uhhh... it was NightKnight who made me do it! :p
Well if you use the loophole in my last answer (hehehe) you can count Gandalf's forgetting his way at the three doors, you might be able to say the Hobbits were lost in Moria. So these were all places in which Hobbits were lost!

Evisse the Blue 12-06-2004 04:20 PM

Right! You're correct, so go on. ( lol. It's been surreal)

Lindolirian 01-11-2005 03:41 PM

Looky what I forgot about...

One Thing in Common, now;)
Peregrin Took
Mithrandir
Hurin

Fingolfin II 01-11-2005 04:49 PM

They all had some sort of mental contest with a Dark Lord?

Pippin - Sauron in the palantir
Gandalf - Sauron on Amon Hen
Hurin - Morgoth in Thangorodrim

Lindolirian 01-11-2005 07:50 PM

That's it!

Evisse the Blue 02-12-2005 08:55 AM

10 days rule strikes again!

Very easy, this one:

Anduril
Elessar
Narya

paavo 02-12-2005 12:12 PM

They all brought hope in the hearts of men?

Vinyacoriel 02-12-2005 12:23 PM

They all had something to do with the Elves?

Anduril = (re)made by an elf (Elrond)

Elessar = elvish name given to Aragorn by Galadriel

Narya = one of the three elvish rings

Evisse the Blue 02-12-2005 12:51 PM

Paavo has it. :)

paavo 02-13-2005 04:43 AM

Thank you very much. :)
This one is quite difficult I think, my apologies if it proves to be too hard.

Gandalf
Túrin Turambar
Nienor Níniel

Evisse the Blue 02-13-2005 07:02 AM

At one point, they were all taken for someone else then who they were?

paavo 02-13-2005 09:08 AM

not the answer I was looking for... :(

paavo 02-20-2005 04:47 AM

One could go to the "quotes in other languages" thread if one would wish for a hint... ;)

paavo 02-25-2005 06:18 AM

ok, since no one seems to even try this one I'll let Evisse have the thread since her(?) answer was quite right.

Evisse the Blue 02-26-2005 07:53 AM

No, wait! I was just thinking about this one. :D

Is it that all of them chose to end their lives by their own will? Well, Gandalf didn't actually die, but still what he did was sort of like a suicide mission.

paavo 02-26-2005 09:35 AM

Yet anothet fine answer but again not the one I was looking for. :)
since you already have two perfectly good answers you can decide yourself whether you want to continue or pose a new question.

Evisse the Blue 02-27-2005 01:18 AM

Why doesn't anyone smarter than me try a guess at this? :p
Now I'm really curious what you had in mind, Paavo. Can you please reveal the answer? :)
Meanwhile, I'll think of the next one.

paavo 02-27-2005 07:02 AM

What I was thinking of was that they each have an equivalent character in the Kalevala (surprise surprise Kalevala again! :) ) . Gandalf could be Väinämöinen, Túrin and Kullervo are similar as are Nienor and Marjatta (Kullervos sister).
But anyway, good job Evisse. take the thread. :)

Evisse the Blue 02-27-2005 12:01 PM

Well, yeah! It makes sense! ;)

here's the next one:

Sting
The One Ring
Bill the Pony

Thinlómien 03-02-2005 07:39 AM

All were borrowed by Sam?

Evisse the Blue 03-02-2005 11:00 AM

Yep! I was thinking all at one point belonged to Sam, but that's exactly the same thing, so your turn! :)

Thinlómien 03-09-2005 09:24 AM

Oh, I got it right? Suppose I did, though this was my first quiz reply ever... :)
And sorry, I didn't post earlier, because I wasn't online. :(
Here are my three:
1. Lúthien&Beren
2. Boromir
3. Gondor

NightKnight 03-09-2005 12:39 PM

My guess is that Aragorn sung of all of them.
