It's the plainest thing ever, and that's what is puzzling you.

I suggest looking at how Emyn Muil, in relation to Anduin, fits more than the others.

Also, pay attention to this:

Labeled on a map - definitely!
Every proper map of ME has it labeled. If not, then it's just against the "grammar rules" of map-making. ;)

Galadriel55 06-04-2011 02:13 PM

Thing - no
Person - no
Place - yes
In ME? - yes
West of Anduin - yesno
Carrock, Tol Brandir - neither
Anduin itself - no
Labeled on a map - definitely!
Emyn Muil - no
Falls of Rauros - no
Is it above Rauros - yesno.
Is it situated on the course of the River Anduin? - yesno...
Visited by a fellowship member - yes
Rohan - no

I wouldn't knowI was useless at Geography (admittedly we only did Glaciated highlands and the Borneo Sumba) and have had the Journeys of Frodo at hand for a couple of days now....so I resort to UT...expand it further and try Rhovanion.

Galadriel55 06-04-2011 02:59 PM

You're overcomplicating it, Mith. You don't need any of these, including good geography knowledge (I'm not that good at it either). The answer was mentioned in passing, though you probably didn't realize it.

This is the biggest clue I can give.

*whimpers*......... ok Reads through. No help. Back to basics. Is the place East of the Misty Mountains (longitude)?

Galadriel55 06-04-2011 06:26 PM

East of the Misty Mtns - yesno. Part of it is, but the other part isn't.

Edit: The name is clearly printed on this map, and that's saying something, considering the quality of the image...

Not in Middle Earth but just Middle Earth? Only thing that has been refered to in passing that I can see?
