Firefoot 08-08-2004 08:46 AM

Who was the Captain of the Guard at the outer gate of Gondolin?

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-09-2004 12:20 AM

Nice new avvie, luthien-elvenprincess

Elemmakil?

Firefoot 08-09-2004 06:21 AM

Yup.

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-10-2004 10:40 PM

Ok . . .

What does the epessë of the first wife of Finwë mean?

NightKnight 08-11-2004 02:24 AM

Serinde = Broideress.

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-11-2004 11:03 PM

Adequate.

Your play.

NightKnight 08-12-2004 02:38 AM

With what event did the First Age start?

Rimbaud 08-12-2004 03:54 AM

Beginning of the First Age

The Return of the Noldor to Middle Earth.

NightKnight 08-12-2004 12:32 PM

Not really. That just happened to happen at the same time.

Rimbaud 08-12-2004 02:04 PM

I'll stand by my answer. You could mean Dagor-nuin-Giliath, of course, but that battle was entirely dependent on Feanor's return, thus also rendering my initial answer correct. Or you could mean the Awakening of Men, in Hildorien. However, as this is hardly so clearly a defined occurence as the Return, again I'll stick to my initial answer. :)

Estanesse 08-12-2004 03:17 PM

The first moonrise

Gil-Galad 08-12-2004 03:24 PM

When the Sun and the Moon were destined to cross the sky, or rather began it

NightKnight 08-12-2004 06:09 PM

The moonrise is what I had in mind. Your turn, Estanesse.

Estanesse 08-18-2004 09:37 AM

An easy one, who killed Khîm.

Firefoot 08-18-2004 09:41 AM

Andróg.

Estanesse 08-18-2004 10:02 AM

That’s correct carry on

Firefoot 08-18-2004 10:14 AM

For what price did Gorlim trade news of Barahir's band with Sauron?

NightKnight 08-18-2004 01:25 PM

Meeting his wife.

Firefoot 08-18-2004 01:49 PM

Not quite.

luthien-elvenprincess 08-19-2004 03:35 PM

To find his wife and to be set free with her.

Firefoot 08-19-2004 04:01 PM

Good.

luthien-elvenprincess 08-22-2004 08:04 AM

Probably an easy one:

How many wounds did Morgoth receive from Fingolfin?

The Perky Ent 08-22-2004 08:55 AM

7?

luthien-elvenprincess 08-24-2004 03:49 AM

no

NightKnight 08-24-2004 05:46 AM

8?

luthien-elvenprincess 08-25-2004 04:24 AM

correct, Nightknight.

NightKnight 08-25-2004 09:13 AM

Seven during the battle and then one last blow, if I remember correctly.

Where is the giant Gilim mentioned?

InklingElf 08-25-2004 03:10 PM

Gilim the Giant of Eruman

I believe Gilim is mentioned in the Lay of Leithian:

Quote:

"Names she sought,
and sang of Glend the sword of Nan;
of Gilim the giant of Eruman;
and last and longest named she <then>,
the endless hair of Uinen." ("Lay of Leithian" 1495-1499, LB)

NightKnight 08-25-2004 03:17 PM

Absolutely! I'm currently reading it, and it's great! :)

And now, I hand over the thread to you. :)

InklingElf 08-25-2004 03:28 PM

Thank you Sir Knight I hope you're enjoying it as I have :)

Next question:
After Turgon, who is acclaimed as the bravest warrior of Gondolin?

NightKnight 08-25-2004 03:31 PM

It was Galdor of the Tree.

InklingElf 08-25-2004 03:34 PM

Correct! Your turn.

NightKnight 08-25-2004 03:37 PM

Who were in the Great Wolf Hunt?

InklingElf 08-25-2004 03:46 PM

Hunting of the Wolf

King Thingol set out to hunt the wolf Carcaroth with the greatest of his warriors:
Mablung
Beleg
Beren Erchamion
and Huan the Hound of Valinor.

NightKnight 08-25-2004 03:50 PM

Yup, he did. And both Beren and Huan died. Please carry on. :)

InklingElf 08-25-2004 03:54 PM

I think we're on a roll Knight! I really wish Huan lived....

In what year of the First Age was Dior Aranel born and where?

NightKnight 08-26-2004 12:22 AM

FA 475 on Tol Galen.

InklingElf 08-28-2004 09:32 PM

I was thinking 470 but I'll accept it -- and Tol Galen is correct.

You may go on :)

NightKnight 08-29-2004 03:16 AM

Why did Finrod Felagund learn the language of Beor's people so quickly?

luthien-elvenprincess 08-29-2004 07:37 AM

Because he could read in the minds of Men such thoughts that they wished to reveal in speech, so that their words were easily interpreted.
