Thank you, Mithalwen. I'll be thinking of England as I have my fish and chips and ale this evening.

Mithalwen 07-12-2008 11:36 AM

Oh I hope they won't be so bad.... ;)

Gwathagor 07-12-2008 11:54 AM

It's been a while since I've been to England, so I can't really compare this place to the chippies over there, but I can maintain that they make some of the very best fish and chips I've ever had. It's certainly as good as what I've had in British Columbia.

Mithalwen 07-12-2008 12:02 PM

ah well chips should ideally be twice fried and eaten with fingers from the paper on a seafront. Or made by my late grandmother.... but I am sure they will be fine - it is just the phrase "think of England" always makes me smile

Gwathagor 07-12-2008 12:06 PM

Well, naturally, one can't replicate the proper atmosphere. ;) Not in the USA, at any rate. We lack a sufficient appreciation for the ordinary and seemingly trivial.

Mithalwen 07-12-2008 12:21 PM

Not necessarily - I did have the interesting and memorable experience of eating Clams and chips with a view of Puget Sound - but in general the American "fry" is a poor thing compared to an English chip.. Maybe it is my Irish ancestry but the spud and it's byproducts are not trivial - and fish and chips? With Shakespeare they are our cultural gifts to the world!!!!

ah well .. I hear the patter of skwerlz so I will shut up, save to hope that what remains of your day is pleasant. :D

Hence my use of the qualifier "seemingly". :smokin:

Wait a minute! What happened to the steak!;)

Gwathagor 07-12-2008 12:59 PM

Fear not, Redbearded-one. The steak is next week, when my young lady is back from South Dakota and can eat it with us.

Brinniel 07-14-2008 12:54 AM

Happy Birthday to Durelin!!!! :smokin:

Happy birthday Glirdan wherever you are - it is a year since he last posted :(

Thinlómien 07-15-2008 06:42 AM

That is seconded. Congrats, Glirdy! :)

Aganzir 07-15-2008 06:59 AM

Belated birthday congrats to Durelin, and a happy birthday also to Glirdan.

Durelin 07-15-2008 09:49 AM

Wow, thanks so much everyone!! You're too kind. :D I spent an excellent birthday at the National Zoo, and it really made my day to see all the posts here.

And happy birthday today to Glirdan! We miss ya!

Cheers to all the July babies. It's a good month. :smokin:

Lalaith 07-15-2008 12:51 PM

Now I do think it quite remarkable that both our Jords should have been born within two days of each other. Happy birthdays, you brace of baleful vampires, you.

Legate of Amon Lanc 07-18-2008 02:04 PM

Ooh, I missed something again. Belated congratulations to Durelin, nice to hear you had good one. :) And also to Glirdy... let's hope he shows up eventually...

Mithalwen 07-19-2008 05:01 AM

Happy Birthday to Perky Ent. Another person who it would be nice ot see again :(

Eomer of the Rohirrim 07-20-2008 05:22 AM

Happy birthday to Ibrīnišilpathānezel, he of the awesome name! :D

Nerwen 07-20-2008 06:09 AM

Yes, Happy Birthday, O Unpronounceable One... by the way, aren't you she of the awesome name? (How embarassing that I don't know this yet.)

Ibrīnišilpathānezel 07-20-2008 08:00 AM

Yes, I am She of the Unpronounceable Name. :D But considering that today is my 55th birthday, it seems appropriate that I picked a name of such a very, very OLD tree. There are times when I feel like a sequoia amid saplings, hereabouts... ;)

Thank you both very much (would you believe 2 birthday wishes makes one more than I got from my own family? *sigh*). Ah, well, I go now to breakfast then sailing, to enjoy the mini-vacation I got as my gift from my hubby. Such a nice young man...;)

Eomer of the Rohirrim 07-20-2008 08:13 AM

Sorry. ;)

skip spence 07-20-2008 09:17 AM

Make that three.

It's good to have you around here, Ibrinadil... er. Ibrin!

Thinlómien 07-20-2008 09:22 AM

Belated congrats to Perky and in-time congrats to Ibrin! :) (See it's four now... ;))

Kath 07-20-2008 09:23 AM

And four.

A very happy birthday! Enjoy that holiday, and the nice young man. :p

EDIT: Ah cross-posted with Lommy! Make that five then.

Legate of Amon Lanc 07-20-2008 10:18 AM

Or six. Happy birthday, Ibri! (Why are you all complicating it? If I remember correctly, it has been agreed in some of the first posts of hers to call her Ibri, or am I imagining things?)

Eönwė 07-20-2008 02:11 PM

Happy Birthday Ibri(n?). You can make that seven now.

Ibrīnišilpathānezel 07-20-2008 03:08 PM

Thanks, all. You have now exceeded the sum total of the other members of my family (of which only one still has bothered to offer any kind regards for the day. The other six... well, living or dead, only one other has bothered to make note of my birthday for the last 20 years. I haven't even heard from my brothers since our father died three years ago. Isn't dysfunctionality wonderful? :P). The sail was quite lovely, and we'll be off for dinner in an hour or so. It's definitely quality, not quantity, when it comes to relationships. :)

As for my screen name, Ibrin or Ibri is fine, and I'm not the least bit offended by being called "he." As someone once said, "On the internet, no one can tell you're a dog," nor can they necessarily tell your gender. I've been on boards for years, and no matter how often I mention my husband or the fact that I'm a woman, people still pop up now and again, quite surprised by the revelation. With an androgynous name, who'd know? It actually amuses me a bit, rather like some of my cousins that even now, react with astonishment to discover I'm married. It's only been 30 years...

The Might 07-21-2008 03:55 PM

Happy birthday old pal!

Yes! First to say:

:) HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEGATE OF AMON LANC !!! :)

May you haunt these barrows for many a year to come!

TheGreatElvenWarrior 07-21-2008 05:05 PM

Happy Birthday to Legate of Amon Lanc!
May you not die before your next one!

Nogrod 07-21-2008 05:09 PM

Oh my... the third one... ;)

But yes, a very good birthday to you Legate!

Let's see if we can arrange something for you belatedly here in Finland as you come here...

Hooray!
...anyway...

And a very good birthday to you Ibrin as well!

Maybe we'll have time one day to discuss the musical envirovment of the Middle-Earth... I'd hope we'd have that time...

Ibrīnišilpathānezel 07-21-2008 06:11 PM

Happy birthday to all, and I hope to know all of you better by next year! :)

And Nogrod, I'd like that chance, too (and thanks for the good wishes). Most people I know are music listeners, not performers or composers (which I appreciate as well), and the closest I come to deep musical discussion with them is when I show them some of my compositions in progress, and they ogle at the cool way the Sibelius program scrolls along, displaying the score while it's playing. Entertaining, but just not the same.... :D
