Grishnak to Merry and Pippin:

"Untie your legs? I'll untie every string in your bodies. Do you think I can't search you to the bones? Search you! I'll cut you both to quivering shreds."

Firefoot 02-15-2006 04:48 PM

Correct, of course.

Such a pleasant chap, isn't he? ;)

Kath 02-19-2006 08:30 AM

"The world is indeed full of peril and in it there are many dark places. But still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater."

I don't know who said it, though I'll make a guess at Gandalf.

Firefoot 02-19-2006 08:40 AM

If that's a LotR quote, I think I could shoot myself now. No, my bet is it comes from the Sil, or maybe UT, but I'd guess the Sil. Don't know where, though.

Kath 02-19-2006 08:50 AM

I couldn't find it in LotR, but haven't read the Sil in forever so I couldn't even guess at that!

Firefoot 02-19-2006 08:55 AM

I'm just bad at finding quotes that aren't in LotR or TH. So many of them can apply to so many different circumstances.

Guinevere 02-19-2006 09:01 AM

 and I thought it would be too easy to solve! ;)

It is indeed from FotR, good old Haldir speaking to the Fellowship while he's leading them to Cerin Amroth. One of my favourite wisdoms!

Btw, in the movie, Galadriel speaks part of this (but typicall they left out "it grows perhaps the greater", which I think reflects Tolkien's view !)

Firefoot 02-19-2006 09:03 AM

*bam*

Kath 02-19-2006 09:04 AM

Well that might explain why it seemed so familiar! Am I doing the next one then?

Firefoot 02-19-2006 09:08 AM

I don't see why you wouldn't be.
