It's only now that I realise how sad it is...

You know you're addicted to The Barrow Downs when you're computer's desktop looks like this:

Brinniel 10-27-2006 08:50 AM

You know you're obsessed with the BD when:

-Your professor assigns the class to write a journal entry about a community they're part of and on first instinct you choose to write about the Downs.

-You own a BD t-shirt and wear it at least once a week.

-You print out copies of Hookbill's P&A comics and insist that your suitemates should read them too for a good laugh. :p

-You meet someone new and the first place you take them to is your computer which just happens to be opened up to the BD forum page. Then you take them on a full tour of the site and show off your best RPG posts. They claim you're really not that much of a freak, but deep down you just know they're saying that to be nice...

Kath 10-27-2006 08:54 AM

You forget that other people aren't quite as obsessed as you are, and mention names and facts from the site without a second thought, only realising your mistake when whoever you're talking to gives you a strange look and goes "huh?", having not understood a word.

Good gracious me!

You know you're addicted when people get fed up of you starting an analogy with the phrase, 'On the Barrow Downs...'

Thinlómien 11-01-2006 04:15 AM

You update the page everytime you rep someone with only a few rep blocks just to see if the person's rep blocks increase. It's really satisfying to see the reputation status change.

Mithalwen 11-08-2006 12:08 PM

When a TV advert featuring a little girl who loves penguins makes you think "I wonder if Lommy was like that when she was a moppet".

:D Awww... I guess I started my penguinism in the age of 7 or 8.

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-23-2006 05:57 PM

I guess this is the place to tell this

I fuess it could be a sign that I am checking the names of streets to find refferences to other BD'ers. . . I do this because I discovered a road name "Volosvej" the other day. (Volo's way)

Heehee...I've been known to do that. I'm not quite a saint, though, since I've also done the reverse with certain less-than-courteous posters (only those that really deserve to be cast into the void, of course.)

ninja91 11-23-2006 08:20 PM

I visited on Thanksgiving Day. I...I think that is a sign... :D

Hookbill the Goomba 11-26-2006 11:07 AM

You want to buy a pair of shoes solely* because they have the words 'Downs' on the sides. Unfortunately, someone else was wearing them.

*Ho ho ho!

Farael 12-01-2006 08:25 PM

You are feeling too sick to study, but never too sick for the 'downs!!!

Thinlómien 12-08-2006 06:35 AM

There's nothing more you need or want to check on the 'downs, but you can't just leave it. You go to the who's online place and start updating it about every second. Then you start: "Ooh! Rune is viewing now N&N! Ooh! Now he started PMing! Ooh! Menel came online! Aha, he goes to mirth! I knew! Ooh, he's viewing TiG junior thread. Ooh, Mith came online! Rune's still PMing, I wonder what's he doing. Ah, Mith's viewing that Buckland -thread, I'll check it too. Ooh, Legate has appeared while I've been away. Rune's still PMing, Menel's still in the mirth section and Mith is viewing her user cp! Ooh!" etc...

:p :D ;)

And now back to... viewing who's online of course!

Rune Son of Bjarne 12-08-2006 06:40 AM

Can a guy not PM a nice girl with out being watched these days !?

What have these Barrows come to. . .

And all the BDers turned invisible ever after. The end.

doom_hammer 12-10-2006 07:14 PM

wow O_O i do most of these things

Naria 12-25-2006 02:54 PM

When one's whole family is in town for Christmas and she decides to hang out in the Downs for awhile. I have to say though, that I am taking a much needed break before the turkey and all the fixins need to be delt with  :D Mmmmmturkey dinner!!

Rikae 12-25-2006 10:35 PM

When you eagerly await the day after Christmas, and the return of a werewolf game you're already dead in.

Thinlómien 01-04-2007 06:58 AM

You know, you're all hopeless...

Farael 01-06-2007 12:57 AM

I just realized I have posted on the top 12 threads of Mirth... and 28 of the first 40!!! It either means that good threads never die... or that I've spent far too much time posting in here !! =P

THE Ka 01-06-2007 07:38 PM

... When amoungst the million odd things you are multi-tasking in your mind, you start a semi-exact time table of when your turn on paper telephone will be, because previous players note how bloody spectacular it is...

The Might 01-06-2007 07:43 PM

hmm...I seem to be addicted even though I don't exactly meet all the points presented :D

I guess the fact that I keep looking who is online and what they're doing is a pretty good sign

Top Ten Sings You Have Problems With A Werewolf Addiction

This happened last autumn.

It had been a very depressing situation in werewolf. I had left school and thus my chance to get online before the deadline and I went home. Needless to say, my thoughts were mostly around werewolf, speculating and forming theories. I went to toilet. I found myself washing my teeth though I was supposed to be washing my hands! I had been so deep in thought that I hadn't given a second thought to what I was doing.

Maybe dentists should start recommending werewolf totheir patients... ;)

I'd hate to imagine what my statistics are. :p

You know you're addicted when you are really annoyed at missing the earlier train home because it means you can't get on The Downs as quickly as you would like.

littlemanpoet 01-10-2007 09:19 AM

You've been around for a year and you notice your daily posting rate is visibly climbing....

Rune Son of Bjarne 01-31-2007 12:44 PM

When you after spotting a street named "Volosvej" (Volo's Way) start to search the naighborhood for other streets with Downer related names.

Thinlómien 02-01-2007 06:20 AM

When you meet a fellow Tolkien fan, you automatically think of recommendating the BD to them.

Unfortunately, last time I met two I didn't have the chance to brainwash them. :(

Thinlómien 02-06-2007 06:25 AM

You use your time doing things like this.

:D

Volo 02-06-2007 07:34 AM

When you don't go to visit your family in Ukraine because they don't have a computer.

Thats silly! I really hope there was another reason. . .

Rikae 02-06-2007 04:15 PM

When you skip class to lurk and watch a WW game unfold when you're not expected to post.

Um; not that I did that...um...well...

Rune Son of Bjarne 02-07-2007 08:57 AM

hehe I know the feeling where you actually consider not going to sertain things because there will be no internet acces. . . .but I end up convincing my self that I need a non online life as well.

Thinlómien 02-08-2007 07:13 AM

When the most exciting thing about turning eighteen next year is actually being allowed to join The Tolkien Middle Age Club....

Almost. :D

Meneltarmacil 03-01-2007 04:34 PM

When you actually build a model of Mount Zoom out of LEGO® bricks.

(pictures soon)

EDIT: Actually, I don't know if I'll ever get around to the pictures, so don't expect anything soon.
