Anyways, This is wonderful and I thought it deserved a quote.

As everyone, (Or almost everyone has requested) I hope there are pictures!

I'm trying to think of a gift for you two but...

I guess a painting will have to do, that's my only physical talent. So, I guess the next question would have to be: Watercolours or Oils? Realistic or Abstract consepts? Or just a big beautiful fantasy piece?

That's wonderful news, Lal and Davem! I'm so happy for you both! :D Sorry I don't have a witty quotation handy, so I'll just say Congratulations and may your home be as solid as rock (as we here say to people who are about to get married).

Perhaps it's too early to say, but have you decided how you'll name your kids? Anything Elvish? ;)

obloquy 03-10-2005 02:41 PM

Grats!

Err surely the courtship phase is over? And engagement surely by definition happens when the date of marriage is more or less decided (ie engaged to be married at that date ? ) Or maybe I am hopelessly old fashioned :D ? Some of the most successful relationships I know were established after quite short courtships - much more positive, than a lot of dripping about, (in Middle Earth cf Faramir and Eowyn and Aldarion and Erendis ).....

Anyway that is by the by Congratulations!!!!!

davem 03-10-2005 03:07 PM

As far as the date goes, we're looking at December 13th (or the nearest available date to that) as that was the day we met.

Again, many, many thanks to everyone for all their good wishes.

Hope to see as many of you as possible in Birmingham for the Conference, where we'll happily accept congratulatory drinks...... :p

luthien-elvenprincess 03-10-2005 06:25 PM

I offer my congratulations to both of you, Lalwende and davem! May God richly bless your love.

Maeggaladiel 03-11-2005 11:01 AM

Ah me; wights in love! Now you can tell people that you found love after death! "We met in a barrow, and I instantly knew that she was the wight for me!"

"Will you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wight?"

Okay, enough wight jokes. Congrats!

You need to have a computer nearby when you get married so we can all send you PMs through the entire service. Just have rows and rows of computers in the audience, each one representing one of us.

Better yet: lifesized cardboard cut-outs of our avatars!

Mithalwen 03-11-2005 11:45 AM

Webcam? :D ..... well my British but NZ resident friends had their son's christening in York for the sake of their families so his Kiwi godfather made his vows by mobile phone.......

Great idea Fordim!

And I must say congratulations to you both on this most blessed and sacred occasion, may you find eternal love and companionship in your union.

I must also recommend the RPG idea that has been planted, how splendid that would be.

Merry meet,
And merry Part,
And merry meet again

Eternally,
Esgallhugwen

Gurthang 03-11-2005 04:21 PM

Congratulations!

I wish you the best of luck, and may you have many happy years ahead. :)

Lalwendė 03-12-2005 12:04 PM

Just got to say again, a big thank you for all the good wishes! *hugs all fellow 'Downers* :)

A webcam? I'd be terrified! You'd get some major line fluffing!

It goes without saying that I am now thinking about outrageously opulent cloaks, as this gives me the perfect reason to get the cloak-to-end-all-cloaks. ;)

Elennar Starfire 03-13-2005 05:08 PM

Aww, Willy got to the PotC quote first.

Congrats and yayness! *gives big hugs*

wilwarin538 03-14-2005 01:54 PM

Better luck next time Elennar!

*returns Lal's hug* :)

Lal the cloak idea sounds very interesting. :p ;)

Neferchoirwen 03-15-2005 03:38 AM

Sending my avatar rsvp ;)

Cheers and Congratulations!

Anguirel 03-15-2005 01:50 PM

Congratulations

You don't know me, but I've lurked here for years, Gollum-like, and I always enjoy reading your posts. I wanted to register just to offer my congratulations, and all that, though I intend to be a member in all senses of the term when I have a few spare minutes...

I hope your wedding goes perfectly.

Lhunardawen 03-17-2005 05:11 AM

Cool.

Sorry, I was left speechless. Congratulations! :)

And yes, don't forget the pictures.

EDIT: I was browsing through recent CbC threads and I realized that davem and Lalwendė need not combine their accounts to create a "super-BDer" -- they could just discuss or even debate about things before posting, pick up some ideas from each other...and they're on their way to Eru's right hand. A subtle plan for world...er...Downs domination, eh?

Orominuialwen 03-18-2005 05:15 PM

Congratulations!

That's so sweet! Congratulations on many happy years to come! :D

HerenIstarion 03-19-2005 07:49 AM

it's great :D

My congratulations!

and cheers :):D

drigel 03-23-2005 08:17 PM

Makes a whole new twist on the old "...the ring symbolizes marraige and unity.." story that you always get. :)

Congrats and many blessings! thats cool :)

Meela 03-24-2005 06:33 AM

Congrats and all the rest! I hope you have much joy.

Boromir88 03-24-2005 01:39 PM

Many more cheers!

A many cheers to the both of you and wish you two the best of circumstances.

I wish you would have said something earlier, that way I could have done the catering for the reception. :p

Again cheers!

davem 03-24-2005 05:16 PM

Again, thanks all! Just checking the rep tables (at the time of writing this) it seems that the dreaded Lalwendavem occupies the top two positions on the board!

Will SpM or Fordim come between us?

Essex 03-24-2005 05:24 PM

Well done.

PS I suppose you've got all the sideshow statues on your wedding list already, Lalwende? He secretly loves them, you know......

Glad 03-25-2005 02:53 PM

Well, well, I haven't been here for a month of Sundays and look what I find! I'm so pleased for you Dave. Congratulations to you both. No doubt there will be some fine celebrating at the next Oxenmoot.

davem 03-25-2005 03:54 PM

Thanks, Glad. Probably not OM this year - probably bankrupt ourselves at Birmingham. You should visit the Downs more often - the other place is dead Tolkien-wise, & it would be nice to hear from you.

Ask Lil, too. :p

A wedding list at the Forbidden Planet shop would be a wonderful idea. More action figures and LotR collectibles beats more toasters and tea-towels hands down. Though I might sneak a feather duster onto the list so davem can dust all the new toys... :p

Memory of Trees 05-09-2005 03:23 PM

That's so cool... congratulations to both of you!!!

Nimrodel_9 05-09-2005 05:09 PM

How exciting! Congratulations and a long happy marriage to you! :D:cool:

mormegil 05-11-2005 01:13 PM

Yes very cool for both of you and what an interesting story you will have to tell your children. I can picture their bedtime stories at night.

Marriage is great! Going on our 6th year and 2nd child soon and I love it all so much.

Snowdog 05-11-2005 03:39 PM

Good luck to you both.

Marriage.... kids.... Hmm.

As one with 5 & 15 years of knowledge of marriage, and with 3 kids...

Good luck to you both.

Holbytlass 05-12-2005 08:16 AM

CONGRATULATIONS!!

If I may, a little marital wisdom from one who has 11 years....
Before you are married, keep your eyes wide open;
After, keep them half shut.
And respect each other, you can't love someone if you don't respect them.

So are we getting close to the blessed day or what?

Now that I have a place in Gondor, I've been wondering if perhaps I could (ab)use that by starting a RPG there entitled An Unexpected Wedding... :smokin:

Afraid things have had to be put back till spring - for various reasons - I'll keep you updated. We're both very happy, the dress (which I haven't seen, of course) has been bought, & we're both looking forward to the big day :)

Anguirel 11-23-2005 12:52 PM

More like the Long-Expected Wedding then!

It is, of course, green, and comes with a hooded cloak, right?

Oh, and riding boots, there has to be a pair of travel-stained riding boots!
