Nope, sorry.

Samwise, is the answer to the second part of your riddle a plant, like a flower?

Yep, Elanor. Sigh.

I am sorry for not replying sooner, busy on an adventure.

Yes, Marileangorifurnimalium (wow, what a name!) you were right, it was indeed the sky.

NEXT ONE

Though precious it looks, a shiny stone,
it was not born in the earth.
It speaks all day, but no sound is heard,
and no matter how far it goes, it will always end up in the same place.

Sigh...here we go again.
Mister Greenbow, sir, it wouldn't be a pearl?
Quote:

"Elves! " exclaimed Sam. "Elves, sir!" He would have burst out of the trees and dashed off, if they had not pulled him back.

Firladion Greenbow 03-25-2002 06:37 PM

No, sorry Samwise my good friend.
Keep trying.

And thank you Raefindel, that makes perfect sense (I am such a fool at times!)

Hm. Okay, Mister Greenbow, sir, I shall have to think on it some more.

Mayla Took 03-25-2002 08:09 PM

Okay, here is one I just thought of off the top of my head. So bear with me (plus it is easy)! Ha ha, here we go;

"I am everywhere.
Some say I am many, some say I am one.
I have many forms. Solid when dry, liquid when wet.
I hold the living but also the dead.
What am I?"

Samwise 03-26-2002 07:03 PM

Per Mister Greenbow's riddle:
Eh, is it a comet?

No, not a star or a comet.

Hint

It can spend it's day looking through glass.

Samwise! You are so smart! Yes, it is dirt.

Sam: Thanks much, Miss Took....
Stacey: He only knew that 'cause he plays in dirt alot....*Yay! I got one right!!*

Oh well, here is the answer (you will all probably think me mad now!)

It's a Goldfish in a bowl.

As for yours Samwise,
Quote:

Though I am one of many
many people shun me alone--
except maybe on "special" occasions.
In certain places, I am left out completely.
What am I?
I was thinking along the lines of shoes, but on second thoughts I don't know now.

Samwise 03-29-2002 06:17 PM

A GOLDFISH!?!? Oh, my goodness.... That one certainly was hard...
No, sir, not shoes.
Quote:

"What about the elves?" said Sam, too excited. "Can't we go and see them? "

Firladion Greenbow 03-29-2002 06:29 PM

I feel I should explain....
Though precious it looks, a shiny stone,
IT IS GOLD COLOURED LIKE A PRECIOUS STONE.
it was not born in the earth.
BEING A FISH, BORN IN WATER.
It speaks all day, but no sound is heard,
STUPID THING OPENS AND CLOSES ITS MOUTH ALL DAY.
and no matter how far it goes, it will always end up in the same place
BEING IN A BOWL IT CAN'T GET FAR

I am only explaining so I can justify my madness.

F.G.

Samwise 03-29-2002 06:39 PM

Sam:LOL, indeed! Thank you for the explanation, sir, as my lil' hobbit brain was havin' a hard time graspin' that one!

Stacey: Grasping? Well, you sure didn't have a problem grasping all those seed packets when we were out today....

Sam: Well, goodness, Miss, you just got paid and they were a good price...

Stacey: Okay, I can't complain. As long as they make my garden pretty, and I'm sure they will...

Nimrodel, welcome to the 'Downs!
LOL--good guess, but nope.
(I can't believe this is lasting this long...it's a first for me! )
Quote:

"Yes, sir!" said Sam. "Begging your pardon, sir! But I meant no wrong to you, Mr. Frodo, nor to Mr. Gandalf. He has some sense, and when you said go alone, he said no! take someone as you can trust. "

Joy 03-30-2002 01:13 AM

Sam, there is only one thing running through my head.

Is it Christianity.

Samwise 03-30-2002 09:17 AM

Wow--good guess, Joy, but no.
Hint: There were two LOTR characters who didn't avoid the answer to my riddle in the least...
Quote:

"And after all, sir," added Sam, "you did ought to take the elves' advice. Gildor said you should take them as was willing, and you can't deny it. "

Starbreeze 03-30-2002 10:01 AM

Ok, I'm not sure if this counts as a riddle but I don't like be left out so I'm using it anyway.

You have fifteen sheep in a field, all grazing happily. Then some Sackville-Baggins comes along and steals all but 9 of them.
How many sheep do you have left?

This is really easy, but I'm silly and can't think of anymore - especially not as good as yours.

Kalimac 03-30-2002 11:37 AM

Samwise - That is a wonderful riddle. I was going to guess a church building but since two of the LOTR characters didn't avoid it, that's probably not the answer (well, were there any churches in ME?) Now I'm thinking...um...the hard way? The steep and thorny way to Heaven? Oh dear, what *has* it got it its pocketses?

Starbreeze - 0, because being sheep they all followed where the first one went? Just a guess, no idea actually.

Starbreeze 03-30-2002 01:45 PM

Nope Kalimac, sorry, you're wrong. I thought it was really easy - oh well.
