Re: Fatty Bolger - Clue#1

Actually, Gondolin's answer looks right to me.
Gimli said "I though Fangorn (the ent) was dangerous."
And Gandlaf replied with the quote.

Leaflock, Skinbark, Quickbeam. Yavanna made them.

Re: Re:Ents

Since I don“t have a good question now, I“ll ask for the speaker of a quote. Who said:

"But still we will not sit idle and let Him do all as He would [...] These cursed Southrons come now marching up the ancient roads to swell the hosts of the Dark Tower. [...] We come to teach them another lesson [...] The road may pass, but they shall not!"

I like the last sentence

Re: Re:Ents

I almost said Anborn. But then I remember there was at least one other Ranger of Ithilien named. Mablung said this quote.

Re: Re:Ents

There were four Shipkings. The first was Tarannon Falastur (T.A. 913-936). He was succeeded by his nephew Earnil I (936-1015). Then followed Ciryandil (1015-1149) and Ciryaher (who took the name Hyarmendacil (South-victor)) and reigned from (1149-1226). At this point Gondor reached the zenith of its power and authority. Unfortunately, Hyarmendacil was succeeded by Atanatar Alcarin, who began the line of the lazy kings.

Re: Re:Ents

Ok. This is my first question submitted, so we`ll have a nice easy one for starters.

What was Gimli`s relationship to Thorin Oakenshield?

Re: Re:Ents

Gimli was the son of Gloin who was a member of the party that set out for Erebor when Bilbo "left his home without a handkerchief"

Re: Gimli & Thorin

Hmmm..... not sure I would accept either answer if I was in a bad mood.

Gimli`s great-grandfather (Farin) and Thorin`s grandfather (Thror) were first cousins, so by my reckoning Gimli and Thorin were sixth cousins. Their common ancestor was Nain II, who was Thorin`s great-great grandfather and Gimli`s great-great-great grandfather. If any expert genealogists disagree let me know.

Anyway, I guess you are closest Sharku, so I`ll pass the next question to you.

Thorin and Gimli

To be exact, they were third cousins, once removed

Re: Thorin and Gimli

I came across a good one:

What does "Bralda-hīm" mean, what language is it, and how is it translated by JRRT?

Re: Thorin and Gimli

Bralda-him is a Hobbitish word that mean 'heady-ale'...kind of a funny play on Bralda-nin which means 'border-water'. Both of these, of course, are referring to the Brandywine River.

I was just working on Appendix F for the encyclopedia. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have known that one
