Elrond of Rivendell 12-29-2003 04:38 PM

Elwing

Fire-Galad 12-29-2003 04:46 PM

is it too late to jion in?

Gil-Galad 12-29-2003 06:19 PM

you can join,... my guess would be Aredhel, daughter of Fingolfin, since Fingolfin lived in Hithlum, which was to the north... and Fingolfin granted land to teh edain in Dor Lomin

Finwe 12-30-2003 03:59 PM

My guess would be Luthien, daughter of Thingol, who was the first High King of the Sindar, rather crazy to boot, and "renovated" a cave to make Menegroth.

Arestevana 01-01-2004 11:08 AM

Telchar-2
Elrond of Rivendell- 1

For those who don't understand:
the first letter of the words 'Old Igloo Renovation Director', moved around, spell Dior, whose daughter was Elwing.

Question 4:
A gift of light
From the lady bright
The morning that passes away.
To break will of night
watching straight, left, right;
That evil the bearer might stay.

Finwe 01-01-2004 12:58 PM

The Phial of Earendil?

Last Question; only those with points may answer.

Question 5: Who traveled with Daeron to the Mereth Aderthad, and by whom was this person killed?

Finwe 01-02-2004 12:13 PM

Mablung of the Heavy Hand, and he was slain by the Dwarves in the assault on Menegroth.

Arestevana 01-02-2004 05:03 PM

Correct, Finwe. Now, can you tell me the common theme?

Finwe 01-03-2004 10:37 PM

They or their makers were in Doriath at some point or the other.

Elwing lived in Doriath for a time.
Galadriel, the maker of the Phial of Earendil, stayed with Melian, in Doriath, for a while.
Mablung was from Doriath, and was a marchwarden.

Arestevana 01-05-2004 02:47 PM

Please continue, Finwe. While not the answer I had in mind, yours is certaintly correct.

Finwe 01-05-2004 02:54 PM

All right. Here goes:

I'm going to have 5 questions. Here is the first one:

1) Elves were generally a happy race, although there were plenty who had slightly suicidal tendencies. Give me the name of the Elf who laughed, who was sibling to the Elf who challenged, and died.

Firefoot 01-05-2004 07:37 PM

Lalaith who was the sibling of Turin who challenged either Glaurung the dragon or his sword Gurthang.

Oh wait, nevermind. I'm getting confused again - Lalaith and Turin aren't Elves they're men. I knew I was doing too well at remembering names to be true!

Gil-Galad 01-06-2004 07:57 AM

Gwindor and Gelmir? maybe?

Gwaihir the Windlord 01-07-2004 02:18 AM

Fingolfin and Feanor...?

Finwe 01-07-2004 06:38 PM

Oh you're quite close with that last one, you definitely have one of the siblings right.

Firefoot 01-07-2004 06:46 PM

Finarfin and Fingolfin?

Finwe 01-07-2004 06:51 PM

Nope. I'll give you a hint: One of the siblings in question is female.

NightKnight 01-08-2004 01:18 PM

Hmm, neither Fingolfin nor Feanor had a sister...

Gil-Galad 01-08-2004 04:35 PM

Finrod and galadriel?

Finwe 01-08-2004 06:31 PM

Ah, NightKnight, they didn't in The Silmarillion...

HINT: Look in The Shibboleth of Fëanor.

NightKnight 01-09-2004 09:08 AM

And what is that?

Finwe 01-09-2004 06:18 PM

Ok... it is one of the lesser known works of Tolkien. I believe it is found in the book, Peoples of Middle-earth (part of the HoME series). If you don't have it, or don't have access to it, try doing a Google search. Those always work.

NightKnight 01-10-2004 04:52 AM

That might explain why I haven't heard of it.

Firefoot 01-11-2004 08:21 PM

After an extensive Google search, I think I have it. Is it Lalwende, sister of Fingolfin?

Finwe 01-12-2004 07:11 PM

Yes indeed it is.

Firefoot -- 1

2.) The Elf who challenged had a rather disputed youngest, who was noble to be sure. Name that youngest.

Gil-Galad 01-13-2004 04:24 PM

Fingon?

Finwe 01-13-2004 07:47 PM

Nope. You got the oldest.

Thorongil 01-14-2004 06:44 AM

Turgon?

Finwe 01-14-2004 06:27 PM

Nope.

HINT: He's really disputed. So disputed in fact, that not many people even know that he exists, or that he's the youngest son.

Elrond of Rivendell 01-14-2004 06:45 PM

As Firefoot, I also needed an extensive Google search to come across Argon. May it be him that you are looking for?

Greetings,
EfR

Finwe 01-14-2004 10:07 PM

Right you are!

3) There is one, descended from the father of the one who challenged, who keeps changing from the grandson of the challenger to the grandnephew or great-grandnephew of the challenger. Name this star of Elvendom.

(rather easy one there)

Thorongil 01-15-2004 01:38 AM

Since you said star, could it be Earendil?

The Saucepan Man 01-15-2004 07:56 AM

Or Gil-Galad, perhaps?

Finwe 01-15-2004 08:55 AM

As usual, Saucy is right!

Firefoot -- 1
Elrond of Rivendell -- 1

4) Brother of the challenger, sun-like not-oldest, father of heroes, my daughter married and her line united with Hope's line.

Elrond of Rivendell 01-15-2004 10:15 AM

Finarfin, father of Finrod and Galadriel?

Finwe 01-15-2004 06:22 PM

Right-o!

Firefoot -- 1
Elrond of Rivendell -- 2
Saucepan Man -- 1

Ok. Last question here, and only those with points can answer.

5) Part fire I am, mauled I have been, set free I have been, burned I have been. Which illustrious warrior am I?

Gil-Galad 01-16-2004 08:27 AM

well i have a guess at the awnser, but i can't anwser

Finwe 02-04-2004 10:58 PM

*bump* Come on! I'm sure that one of you guys knows the answer. Saucy, what happened to that devilishly sharp wit?

Firefoot 02-18-2004 09:00 PM

Could it be Sauron? I dunno, it's the only thing that comes to mind, but I'm not sure where burned fits in. Do you have a hint or something?
