Re: Another possible quote

I'll try to reestablish the quote line...

Who might have said,

Quote:
"Now master, this is not the time to go smelling the flowers. Let's stay on our feet."

and when and where?

I was thinking Sam, but "Master" sounds more like Gollum. I didn't want to say "Master Frodo" and make it even easier. Ask us!

I can't think of a 'possible' quote

I can't think of a 'possible' quote, so here's a real one. Who said ....

Quote:
The Shadow of Mordor lies on distant lands. Saruman has fallen under it. Rohan is beset. Who knows what you will find there, if ever you return?

... and where was it said and to whom.

Aragorn said it to Boromir at the Council of Elrond.

Was it Merry with a slightly sarcastic tone speaking to Saruman who accused him of stealing his Southfarthing tabacco?

Re: I can't think of a 'possible' quote

That's a better answer than the one I had intended! You win. I was thinking of when Bilbo gave Merry and Pippin advice and elf-pipes as a parting gift when they visited him at Rivendell on the way home. But yours is vastly superior. ask us!

I just wanted to so before I give a quote that your customary, "ask us" sounds a lot like Gollum, is that intentional?

The quote is...

"For the missing of your company I give this greatest gift, new life."

This maybe to vague or to easy, but here goes.

Could it be one of the Valar to Gandalf after he fell in Moria?

What's a burrahobbit got to do with my pocket, anyways?

Not quite what I had in mind, close though, as a matter a fact the situation is the right one, but the speaker is different. After thinking it over this quote probably would not have been said, but keep guessing.

Is that blue thing a planatri?

Yes, Boromir, Gollum was intended. I think I started that tag the first night I was on this board when I was very pleased by the idea that this is a riddle-game.

Re: Still here

How is this for off the wall. The words might have been spoken, or more likely thought, by Galadriel when she gave Sam his box of seeds to refertilize the devastated Shire. Trying to think in a deep Elvish death-and-rebirth-way, she might have been offering them as a profound compensation for those lost to defeating evil. (Like Frodo and Gandalf, etc., who depart ME) If we were to think this way, it would be significant that Sam names his children the way that he does because they are his solace when Frodo leaves and they and Sam's gardening sybolize the rebirth/rebuilding of good.

Most of that explanation was over my head, but you got the answer. I was thinking of Galadriel and its is very much more likely that she thought this quote or said it to someone other than the company.

Your turn

Then I suppose that she said it to Gandalf so that he could return and aid the quest of the (missing) Sam and Frodo by doing all those necessary and distracting things outside of Mordor (and perhaps, also, by contesting Sauron's will at Amon Hen).

and what were those?

Plausible guess, Galpsi. But not what I was thinking.
Wouldn`t Faramir/Anborn have said `your kin from the north`?

Because Gollum was so much changed, I had rationalized that he thought that Gollum was something like hobbits but different (and therefore from another place). These things are necessarily speculative.
