It's been about two months since this one has seen action. Perhaps a clue and then this section can be revived!

First off, this is not a real quote. It's from the game where we invent quotes that might reasonably ave been spoken by characters in the books but weren't. Second, it's from the Hobbit.

Someone from Dale said this during or after Smaug's original attack there.

That is a good guess, but the situation you are thinking of is wide of the mark. Perhaps it would be better if I properly worded the question to say: Who said "luggage with eyes"? The speaker was actually referring to another person.

NOTE: This did not occure in the Merry/Dernhelm adventure part of the Book.

This is Frodo actually speaking of Sam. At first, I thought it would be Sam speaking of Gollum, but it turns out Sam called himself 'luggage in a boat' and Frodo came back with, '...and I might say "luggage with eyes".

This seems like one of those tricksy questions. This was originally said by Saruman to Gandalf, but we first hear it at the Council of Elrond, when Gandalf, the speaker, recounts his tale to the other members of the council.

Thanks, Jes.

Who uttered these verses, and to whom do they refer?

Quote:
His sword was long, his lance was keen,
his shining helm afar was seen;
the countless stars of heaven's field
were mirrored in his silver shield.

But long ago he rode away,
and where he dwelleth none can say;
for into darkness fell his star
in Mordor where the shadows are.

T, I don't know if you even check in here anymore, but I finally found this one.

It's Bereg of the house of Bėor, answering the council of elf-friends who advocated aiding the Noldor in their quest to defeat or at least restrain Morgoth. Bereg was bitterly disappointed that Men had made a difficult journey out of the East seeking the Light in the West, only to find that the Light was out of reach beyond the sea and they had come to a place that was at least as dangerous as the one they had left behind.

Quote:

For Hurin stood in despair before the silent cliffs of the Echoriath, and the westering sun, piercing the clouds, stained his white hair with red. Then he cried aloud in the wilderness, heedless of any ears, and he cursed the pitiless land; and standing at last upon a high rock he looked towards Gondolin and called in a great voice:‘Turgon, Turgon, remember the Fen of Serech! O Turgon, will you not hear in your hidden halls?’
And the new one will be:

Quote:

For you remain my king, and theirs, whatever betide

HerenIstarion 12-07-2000 10:52 AM

No answers still, so I reveal the answer, which is is Edrahil talking to Felagund

Another one:

Quote:

In fact if you can't talk about something else, you had better be silent. We are quite annoyed enough with you as it is
Are you, btw?

EDIT: I accidentally deleted the one in between this one and my previous, which also was not solved. It contained the quote from Smith of Wotton Major, that what Mr. U talks about in the following post
