Was actually Uglúk to Grishnákh regarding the Nazgûl.

As Bruce correctly identified a copy-cat quote I am pleased to defer to him for the next one

Gandalf to the men of the Hornburg concerning the large pile of dead orcs that lay in the coomb.

Legolas 10-01-2002 05:25 PM

To the previous quote...Frodo, the armies of Mordor.

merlilot 10-01-2002 07:16 PM

Bergil to Pippin or vice versa. I think it is Bergil speaking, but they said similar things...so...

Legolas 10-01-2002 07:49 PM

Fallen King of Angmar

It wasn't your turn. In three days, if no one has confirmed the answer to a quote but one knows they are right, they may proceed. I was waiting.

Anyway, since you've chosen to continue on without me, I'll take back over.

Who said
Quote:

Depart, or not one of you will be spared. Not one will be left alive to take back tidings to the North. You do not know your peril.

charly 10-06-2002 04:04 AM

I´m prettty sure it´s a hobbit.... might be Pip or Merry. And isn´t he talking to Bill Ferny??

Legolas 10-06-2002 10:20 PM

No, it isn't a hobbit.

TolkienGurl 10-10-2002 01:11 PM

Et Earello Endorenna utulien. Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn' Ambar-metta!
This person was quoting another from long ago. Who said it first, and who was quoting him?

I don't know how to do the little dots above the 'a' in Earello and the ` above the second 'u' in utulien. Can someone help me?

TolkienGurl 10-30-2002 05:42 PM

It is clad in a forest of dark fir, where the trees strive one against another and their branches rot and wither. In the midst upon a stony height stands Dol Guldur, where long the hidden Enemy had his dwelling.

Legolas 10-31-2002 08:20 PM

Haldir to the Fellowship of the Ring sans Gandalf in Lórien, he's speaking of Southern Mirkwood.

I was thinking this wasn't in the second or third books, but it actually is in the real second book as designated by Tolkien (being in the second half of Fellowship of the Ring).

Telchar 11-06-2002 03:44 PM

Quote:

Beren87 11-08-2002 03:51 PM

Would that be the entire qoute, or is it enclosed in a sentance?

Telchar 11-08-2002 06:25 PM

The sayer adds something but its too easy if I say that - lol

Beren87 11-08-2002 07:07 PM

Is it Shagrat when talking to Gorbag? Saying "
"Don't try and teach me my job."

gralin musicteeth 11-09-2002 11:21 AM

Was it Aragorn talking to Frodo about the ring? i seem to remember something about how it would break him or something.

Telchar 11-11-2002 02:20 AM

nope - HINT: it was said in Rivendell...

gralin musicteeth 11-11-2002 05:56 PM

are you sure it's in the 2nd or 3rd book? and are we all talking about the same 2nd or 3rd book? wasn't that Dain Ironfoot one in FoTR? I'm all confuzzled.

TolkienGurl 11-11-2002 06:17 PM

FOTR is books 1 and 2.
TTT is 3 and 4.
ROTK is 5 and 6.

So the quote is in the second part of FOTR: hence 2nd "book".
