Re: absolutely fantastic version now...

You're ever so close, HI, but again I would argue that Déagol didn't really have a long enough relationship with the Ring to be called &quot;faithful&quot;. The answer should be obvious by now...

The Ring speaking to Gollum as it falls from his hand for the last time.

<blockquote><font size=2>

"With that they parted, and it was then the time of sunset; and when after a while they turned and looked back, they saw the King of the West sitting upon his horse with his knights about him; and the falling Sun shone upon them and made all their harness to gleam like red gold, and the white mantle of Aragorn was turned to a flame. Then Aragorn took the green stone and held it up, and there came a green fire from his hand."</p>

It's clearly Sauron at the moment when he becomes aware of Frodo claiming the Ring at the Cracks of Doom, no?

<img src="http://www.barrowdowns.com/images/posticons/sting.jpg" align=absmiddle> Re: A new quote that wasn't

Could it be Elrond? Refering to his forefather Earendil The Mariner?

(My other thought is a decendant of Tuor, but I can't think of any and don't have my books)

I could be WAY off, it's been a while since I've read my Sil. <img src=ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

HerenIstarion 01-18-2001 01:21 PM

Forefather I seek for really is Earendil the Mariner. Now go for a descendant (which is certainly not Elrond)

Re: A new quote that wasn't

HI,

By saying &quot;which is certainly NOT Elrond&quot;, are you saying that I am incorrect in answering your question, or are you saying that Elrond is NOT a descendant of Earendil? No big deal if I'm incorrect in answering the question, but Elrond is certainly a descendant of Earendil the Mariner. Elrond and Elros are the sons of Earendil and Elwing, daughter of King Dior. (At least according to the family tree of the House of Beor and the Mortal Descent of Elrond &amp; Elros. I don't have my books with me, but I've found this on the Cabed-en-Aras website.)

I'm just confused and looking for clarification to your statement <img src=tongue.gif ALT=":b"> !

At any rate, since Earendil is the forefather you are looking for, and the father of Elros, I'm going to guess that the answer you are looking for might be Aragorn II.

amyrlis

</p>

HerenIstarion 01-19-2001 01:38 PM

Excuse me if I came off misterious (heh). I meant that answer I'm looking for is not Elrond, and Aragorn is incorrect too, but you are on the right path - the one I need is from the line of Elros indeed, though he lived long before Aragorn and long after Elros. Good luck :)

Amandil

Heren Istarion, I am thinking that it is perhaps Amandil? Amandil, the last lord of Andunië in Numenor, speaking of his proposal to sail to Valinor, just as Eärendil the Mariner his forefather did ages long ago to beg for forgiveness at the hands of the Valar?

Keeping on the theme of Middle Earth, who might've said:

&quot;They cannot hide in their greed forever and shun!&quot;

A little obvious, but anyway.

Well...

Actually I was thinking of Ar-Pharazon speaking of the Valar (because of the words Sauron had spoken to him, telling him that they were greedy and wanted to keep their land from the Numenorians etc.) but the answer you have given fits into that quote better than my intentions. <img src=smile.gif ALT=":)"> Ask away!

No Idea

Well, I am, to be perfectly honest, completely dumbfounded <img src=rolleyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes"> but I do have one suggestion: A captain of a guard in the goblin lairs above the high pass belonging to the Great Goblin, who fled as Thorin + Co escaped, since no-one is named - or perhaps the Great Goblin himself, though he was slain...It could've been Bolg or Azog during the War of Dwarves and Orcs or the Battle of the Five Armies respectively; And there are a whole range of possibilities if Hobbits were meant by pygmeys, but they are not. <img src=ohwell.gif ALT=":/">

HerenIstarion 01-28-2001 05:46 AM

Maybe to involve dwarves was incorrect - In fact Gandalf killed the great Goblin, not the dwarves, but I was reffering to Beorn, who's opinion on dwarves raised after th death of the great Goblin

That would have to be Bilbo muttering to himself after he is sent off by Thorin + Co to investigate the Trolls hideout (he was asked to hoot twice like a screech-owl and once like a barn-owl if in trouble) <img src=smile.gif ALT=":)"> My sins are forgiven.
