-Imrahil- 11-24-2002 07:04 PM

Eowyn perhaps?

Joy 11-24-2002 07:19 PM

Not quite. Good guess though, and Welcome to the Downs.

-Imrahil- 11-24-2002 07:29 PM

Then it's got to be: Pippin to Denethor?

Joy 11-24-2002 07:35 PM

You are very much correct Dear Prince. Your turn now.

Ah-hah! It was you, Imrahil, who said this to Aragorn in The Last Debate.

-Imrahil- 11-26-2002 07:28 PM

Got it Lostgaeriel!

Your turn

Is it someone talking to Gandalf? Can't think of the person off the top of my head at this moment.

Joy 11-26-2002 11:19 PM

It was Éowyn to Faramir in "The Steward and The King."

Yes, Joy, you have it. Your turn.

Now I've rung the front doorbell!

Oh, that's Sam (holding the Phial of Galadriel) as he passes between the Watchers at the Tower of Cirith Ungol - on his way in.

Yep! I just checked it.

-Imrahil- 11-27-2002 06:11 PM

Lost got it to before me. Love that chapter.

Joy 11-27-2002 09:19 PM

You betcha Lost! Your turn.

Lostgaeriel 11-27-2002 11:58 PM

Yeah, I love that chapter, too. Seems to me that Sam is the only character inside whose mind Tolkien lets us get inside.

Sam shows his courage, loyalty, hope and resourcefulness. And his reunion with Frodo is wonderful.

One of the Rohirrim. Possibly Hama?

LePetitChoux 11-28-2002 11:28 AM

I cannot find the exact quote, but I'm sure it was Eomer about thr Rangers...or about some other people.

Joy 11-28-2002 01:05 PM

It was Ingold(the gaurd at the gate) of Minas Tirith to Mithrandir/Gandalf concerning Pippin.

LePetitChoux 11-28-2002 01:23 PM

I knew that.

Go ahead, Joy - you have earned the victory.

"Oft hope is borne, when all is forlorn."

-Imrahil- 11-28-2002 11:36 PM

Gandalf?

Joy 11-28-2002 11:43 PM

Sorry, no. Try again.

Lostgaeriel 11-28-2002 11:50 PM

Gee, and I had decided not even to try this one. But with a wee bit of thought I quickly found the quote, in The Last Debate. Legolas says this as he relates the story of the journey on the Paths of the Dead to Merry and Pippin.

The clue was the word hope. Whoever was speaking had to be referring to Aragorn.

You are almost correct, Lost. It was not Legolas that was telling this part.

Lostgaeriel 11-29-2002 01:45 PM

Oops! It was Gimli telling the tale at this point and he was quoting Legolas.

Joy 11-29-2002 05:29 PM

Yes, thou art correct!

Lostgaeriel 11-29-2002 05:54 PM

Gee, I almost blew that one, eh?

OK, how about this?

It was Gandalf to Pippin in Minas Tirith after they return to their rooms - after that Pippin swore fealty to Denethor.

Lostgaeriel 11-29-2002 06:40 PM

Who do you think you are? Quickbeam?

Yes. I guess that was too easy. Go ahead!

Eomer to hobbits?

Joy 11-29-2002 08:13 PM

Alas, no.

Beren87 11-29-2002 08:43 PM

Faramir to Eowyn

Joy 11-29-2002 08:55 PM

You are correct Beren.

Beren87 12-06-2002 06:20 PM

Oops, somehow lost the thread for a week! So, sorry. Welp, I'm back so we can continue.

Gandalf the white?

Beren87 12-06-2002 08:52 PM

With my 250th post I have to say no.
